Google maps directional arrow gone - Galaxy S I9000 General

That little arrow which turns when you move around is gone for me.
I only get a blue simple dot, so i have no idea which direction i am actually facing too.
Any idea why this happens?

Means the magnetometer is offline, try checking if it works with a compass app.

Your right, it doesnt work with the compass app. Know how to enable it?
regards.

You got everything under My Locations in Settings checked?
I honestly never heard about the magnetometer suddenly dying

Yea everything is enabled... Geuss ill just have to reflash my phone or something?
EDIT; something probably went wrong when i flashed darky 7.0 rom
I just wiped my data and it works again. Weird.

Hey. I had this problem with v6. I had to do a factory reset and reflash the rom. Pain the ass but darkys rom is more than worth the pain.

Gps issue, won't face me in the right direction

I am running dk28 and haven't had any issues with gps that seem t be all over the forums. When I updated to the new google maps my gps isn't as accuruate as it was ( still pretty close but not as close) and basically when I turn left, it turns right, I go right, it goes left and its a bit annoying.
I uninstalled the update and it still was messed up. Tried re installing and still a no go. Anyone else had this problem? Or does anyone know what I can do to fix it, preferably without flashing back to 2.1 through odin and all that mess?

Have you tried to calibrate the magnetometer? Download Compass from Market and Menu > Calibrate?
Didn't know of compass. There's a compass thing in te new maps though that I did calibrate and it still had issues. Ill try that though
Edit - still a no go

Nothing new really. I've noticed that the compass is pretty ****ty in the Epic period regardless of OS to the point of being almost useless.
did you happen to spin the map on accident?

I've always had good gps til this incident. Sucks, I don't use it often but it comes in handy now and then. Hopefully when, or if, an official release drops it will be better

I was recently having problems with the compass and Navigation going the wrong way. Intrerestingly enough I calibrated the accelromater and it fixed the issue. The phone no longer thinks South it North. I used the calibration method through the Connectbot below. In Froyo there is setting to calibrate it right through the GUI.

This worked for me but I'll take no responsibility if it mucks something else up
1. Download a terminal app from the market
2. Enter one line at a time.
su
/system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha
3. Follow the onscreen directions, while making sure you device is flat.
pay attention to the bump at bottom on back.
I hung said bump off the edge of table
I preformed this AFTER flashing to stock and then flashing my former ROM.
So it was not done in 2.2"

After Flashing to Overcome 1.2.1....GPS is not working correctly.

Ever since I flashed to Overcome 1.2.1 the GPS has been VERY wonky and just plain WRONG. Maps says that I am in the next TOWN which is a good ways away.
GPS Locks are extremely few as well and takes forever to lock on to.
Can anyone else confirm this and or help?
Bumping this up.
When you flashed, did you wipe your cache? With a new rom it always takes a while to reaquire your location. I use the app HereIAm2 from the market to get that first position lock after a rom flash.
Yes I did wipe the caches. Will try that app out if it is free.
Thanks.
EDIT: Noticed that the compass seems to be very inaccurate as well. Weird.

Oh well, that's the least of my probs;-/
i have installed OC 1.2.1 and at one point the whole tab became very sluggish....and all sort of issues appeared such as slow browsing.......then the tab would simply freeze! Reboot did not help at all....
I have since installed OC 1.2.3 with the new kernel and it went ok-ish. But today after rebooting i have all sort of errors (broken messaging service, when i click on the wifi tab to switch on, it says 'error'.etc).
I wonder if others have this sort of probs. I cannot understand how it can work fine for a few hours and then.....kkkkkkkk.
I have the UK tab version with firmware JK5; Also cannot figure it out why it does not show 'overcome v1.2.3 on the build number...it still shows v1.2.1, kernel overcome 97.
I'll have to reflash the lot now.......how annoying.
I am sorry that you are having problems. However hijacking threads is frowned upon here.....
Welcome to the XDA Forums otherwise.

The app is free.
How many roms have you flashed? Maybe it's time to do a factory reset, then flash the full version of the rom/kernal.
Well it did the trick and put me in the correct spot but the compass is still completely wonky.
Oh and this is the first ROM I have flashed. Overcome 1.2.1.
There are apps in the market for that. You want to calibrate the compass, so look for a gps utility. Sorry I don't have one to recommend to you.
Not a problem. I appreciate your advice and welcome any others as well.
One thought about the compass - do you have your tab in a case with a magnetic clip?
Mine works fine out of the leather case, but not when it is in the case.
Just a thought.
No I don't.
To test the GPS to see if there was any interference I put my iPhone 4 into compass mode in maps and did the same with the Tab using the Maps program.
The iPhone 4 was spot on....however the Tab was wrong yet again.
So that means there is no interference.
I am stumped here....and the recalibrate apps did not work either.
Just thought I would try a catch-up.
Since my last comment I moved from Rotos JMIv2 to Overcome 1.2.3 and my GPS also stopped. After 24 hours however, I have got it going through a the use of GPS Status (free from the market) and the LbsTestMode which you can access either through a dialler code or through SGS Toolbox, also free from the market.
To cut the story short, I went from just finding about 3 satelites (with no connectoins), to finding and connecting 10 satelites.
I must say that I am very happy with the current ROM and with the GPS Status program.
Hope this helps if you are still having problems.
I believe that if you dont have wifi or 3g on the tab GPS will not work..

Yes - I've always had the wifi going, but found that unless I had a phone (modem flash) and inserted a sim card, I could never get GPS to do anything.

GPS cannot lock on signal on Trigger 3.2

Hi guys,
I've installed Trigger 3.2 and flashed the S.GPS fix, im trying to use the GPS using the "NAVIGATION" app but it wont lock on signal... it keeps showing me this "сhecking navigation availability" message while the gps icon on tray keeps flashing...
i left it a coupe of times for half an hour but it still wont lock on signal...
the starnge thing is i tested it using "GPS TEST" app and the apps shows that the GPS DO work and it allready found 12 birds and is using like 8 right now...
what do you guys think could be the problem?...
I just tried it on trigger 3.3 beta. At first it did as your saying. I reflashed the s.zip fix, went to gps test after reboot got a good lock. Then ran navigation no problem.
When I was still stock gps test was the only way I could get mine to work. So its habit for me to use it to get a lock then go about maps/navigation.
Dunno might work might not.

The fix does it itself. No need to do it manually.
Same problem. Ether way the GPS on the Vibrant sucks monkey balls. Horrible compared to other android devices! And there is not a good fix for that! Tried about 20 Roms and GPS still sucks even tried 4 Vibrants devices. Sh*t out of luck! Nice screen but crappy GPS.

I used to think that too. But i recently grap a captivate from my friend and i suppose they have the same GPS as we do. Very crappy for Froyo, but once i flash it with
Andromeda 3

I was totally surprise with the GPS lock.. It takes forever to lock before i flash this rom. But after using this ROM.. guess what? within a few seconds i got the gps lock. I don't know what they do over there but it sure works.. I need to find out what are they fixes and see if they are able to work on my Vibrant or not.
Seriously GPS lock in a few seconds for Galaxy S device is just simply magic. Let me know if anyone know what they did on that rom that make it sooo much better.
THanks
Ok, i followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912777
and installed "Waze", with this app the gps finds birds and gets a lock in seconds with great accuracy!
but on the Navigation app it still wont find them...

Camera inverted (upside down) with CM7.

Hey guys.
I've been using CM7 for about a month now, currently in the 010911 Nightly.
Everthing was fine until this past week, when the camera of my phone started to have strange freezes and lags. Then, one time, it FCed and when I turned it back on, the display was inverted, and colors were all strange and washed off.
I've rebooted, cleaned the data, etc, etc, and nothing fix the issue. Keep in mind that there's nothing with the tilt sensor. It's something software related.
I remember seeing a fix for a similar problem a while back, but I searched this hole forum and couldn't find anything, so, I beg for your help.
Thanks a lot!
Sorry for the bump, guys. But I really need some light with this problems.
Try clearing Camera app data or switch to another nightly.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, I already tried both things you suggested, with no luck.
Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but is the boot mode set to 2nd init by default ?!
You can also try using other camera apps like Vignette.

dude, we are on the same boat. Tell me when u find a solution.
A temporary fix which i m not sure till when its gonna last but is working for the moment.
open camera, leave it opened and pull the battery. put the battery again after 2 mins and see if it helps you. Its working for me at the moment but dont know the logic behind the process.
I already got my camera hardware replaced but this problem happened again just after rooting the phone.
I have the same problem and I'm almost sure it is a hardware failure. Maybe after a shock or drop. I'll open my unit this week and see what's wrong. Did some of you manage to fix it?
I've even tried flashing full stock sbf without success, so I'd blame the camera module.

Quick question re Accelerometer

Good day XDA. I just noticed that my N7 is having problems with its accelerometer. I was playing temple run and mutant road kill and the characters always veer to the right.
Question is: is this a software or a hardware issue?
also, is there a fix/app if this is indeed a software issue?
thanks
well, i know that there is apps for calibrate the accelerometer, i can´t remember now the name, sorry, but i´m sure that you can find it on the market o google.
Anyways, did you try in diferents places? i mean, maybe the surface where you try wasn´t flat...
thanks for the reply man.. anyway, i already found a way to fix it and it's been holding up.

What's the fix?
What did you do to fix the issue?

well first you have to confirm that you indeed have the gyro/accelerometer problem. you guys could download an app for that (i used Android Sensor Box). once that is confirmed, download the app "GPS Status". Run it and go to tools, then calibrate pitch and roll and just follow the instructions. I suggest you guys do this while your device is lying flat on a surface.
after trying this fix, i uninstalled GPS Status, rebooted my device and it held up. played temple run and the character started right smack in the middle lol. also tried checking the sensors using Android Sensor Box and it was calibrated. i just reinstalled GPS Sensor just in case i might need it down the road but im hoping this fix will be permanent. if it isnt, im pretty sure that this is a software problem and an update could give a permanent solution.
let me know if you guys get the same result i had with this.
Thanks

Had exactly same issues on all three units I have purchased. GPS Status app does fix the problem. Thanks for the solution.
GPS status did nothing for me.
Same problem veering to the right
Held n7 landscape
Reboot
After reboot accelerometer is working fine

This didn't do the thIng for me neither
But I did the job like this.
Open an app that uses the compass. You can use GPS Status, Android Sensor Box or whatever app you like that uses a compass.
twist/turn your device 3 times around each of all the three axes
FINISH
Even after a reboot it works great.
But if you flash a new rom this fix will be broken
