If you like Swype and the Sense UI, or if you are going to Root the phone, I like the MT4G.
It has the updated snapdragon chip, Qualcomm MSM8255
It has 768MB internal vice the 512MB (weakness of Nexus IMO)
It has the FFC
It is also a HSPA+ (4G)
It has a bigger screen 3.8" I think vice 3.7"
My buddy has this phone and all in all I like the feel (HTC metal), if I was not stuck on AT&T (Nexus) I would jump at this one.

I just bought The Mt4g for my girl.. and i own the nexus one...
everything Lightning N1 listed are true... i hate the ui.. but if you plan on rootting it i would say get the mt4g...
very fast
nice size screen...
4g
fcc
And it has alot more internal memory as the nexus one only has 512 mb
It defenitly a phone what will last you a while...
cyanogenmod doesnt have a stable release out yet but progress is being made day by day...

would agree mytouch 4g is nice in person. I thought about it but found a $160 vibrant on craigslist. Traded my nexus one for an iphone 4, didnt like iphone and probably going to sell it for $500 and purchase a nexus s but vibrant is pretty much same feel to me.

Yes, this is amazing. I am ASTONISHED by the sheer amount of apps my gf can install and never getting the "low on space" message. I'm so jealous. (Definitely the weakness of the Nexus.)
As has been said already:
- HSPA+ 4G
- Bigger screen
- Front facing camera
- Dedicated camera button
- Much better CPU and GPU
- No touch panel recalibration / multitouch issues
AND, here's the kicker...
Nexus One: $529 (+$25 developer fee)
Nexus S: $529
MyTouch 4G: $450!
What the?? How in the heck is that possible?
The MT4G is definitely better in every way. Get it and you won't be missing much from the Nexus One.
The only thing would be custom ROMs and not being able to have future Android versions for a long time. HTC and T-Mobile might take months and months to update, or may never update the phone. But if you're reading these very forums, you probably already know / have the capacity to root and install your own ROM.
Bottom line: the MT4G is better, has more features, yet is somehow $80 cheaper.

also if you been with t-mobile for awhile they will give it to you for 400 dollars with free shipping... thats what i paid.. im in a no contract plan

How did you manage this? In-store? Called over the phone?

I would love to get the Mytouch 4g but it doesn't support t-zones. Therefore, I'll be sticking with my Nexus One... it stinks to be a poor prof. student!

I'm not looking right now. But if I was, then the MT4g would be my best choice! It's a favorate so far in the Tmonews vote:

I've got a few feelers out on Craigslist to get a MyTouch 4G.
I think thats my next phone.
I picked up a G2 and it was ok but who needs a keyboard with Swype ?
So I sold that and bought a Nexus S last saturday.
I dont like the no track pad track ball thing.
Its excruciating that you have no way to move the curser.
Yeah the screen is snappier and its faster than the Nexux One
but I'm returning the Nexus S to Best Buy this morning and voiding
the two year contract since I'm still in the buyers remorse period.
Back to the Nexus One.

My parents both bought MT4Gs over the holidays. Very nice hardware, I'm jealous of the bigger screen, camera button and the trackpad.
One big flaw though, the USB port is on the side, so no car mount. Rumor has it there's one that works in landscape, but it sure looks goofy.
N1 is smaller in the pocket though and getting GB quick will be nice. Wonder what the official build for the MT4G will be in 6 months?

I plan to "upgrade" to mytouch 4g once it costs $0 for 2 year extension contract.

And when will that be?

Always go back to the nexus one! Lol. Yeah it's true that mytouch 4g is better in every way. But you have to miss that color track ball and the sexy looking that the nexus owns. Hint at the uni body vs plastic. I love the mytouch 4g specs tho.

Having owned the Nexus One twice now, I can say that the MyTouch 4g hardware feels like the hardware that should have become the Next Nexus. The software has a lot of T-MOBILE in it but none of it bothers me. In fact, I really like it. I do not miss the Nexus One at all now that I own this.

Best and fastest phone out for TMO now.
I like it much better than the Nexus S I had for a week and returned.
Its faster than the G2 and Nexus One.
Downside is the bloatware that takes some getting used to
after using stock Android on the N1 for so long.
I got the Skyfire browser off the market and that helped,
as the stock browser made me go "huh ?" .
The MT4G is a great phone for now till the dual cores start showing up.

Who will be purchasing a Nexus S?

I most certainly will my G1 is on it's death bed. I love stock android and this will have and get the updates first! I can deal with the lack of features and dual core can wait because in the next 2 years something better will come out. You can never beat technology! So who else will be getting this phone?
Me eventually.

I most likely will want another phone. Currently have the myTouch 3G slide.
I too am going to wait. I think Google/Sammy's partnership came late, and they attempted to give use a dual-core, but couldn't, and so rushed the single-core to their Nexus brand. Lack of HSPA+, especially, just seems backwards when all phones and carriers are moving toward "4G." It just doesn't make sense. I will hold off.
i'm still not 100%. i'd say i'm about 65% sure i want it right now. need to get to a best buy with a real working display model and use it for a while.
I should have mine on Wednesday of next week
Is it really that much better than the G2 or Mytouch4g to get? G2 has a keyboard SLCD, HSPA+, new gen snapdragon, and almost stock android. Mt4g also has HSPA+ and a new gen 1Ghz snapdragon.
I think the only reason to get the Nexus S would be for the Google updates. The specs really aren't mind blowing, they're high end, but nothing new.
So when it comes time to retire my trusty G1 I think I'll go with its successor the G2.
Although it is quite tempting to go with the Nexus S updates and SAMOLED are quite tantalizing.

Yes the mt4g is quite ugly. But I think the G2 has notable advantages over the Nexus S.
1. Keyboard
2. HSPA+
In all other things the Nexus S reigns supreme. That's what it's so tempting to get it. But then again coming from the G1 I do like my keyboard

I'm waiting for the end of the first quarter to get one of the big daddy's with there dual core processors. The nexus s seems very rushed in build and spec. I've got the feeling Google are trying to cash in on christmas. Even tho I really like the updates coming straight to the phone it's no way worth the money. Just can't wait until the end of the first quarter.

Nothing is going to hold me back from buying this. And I m getting everything I need from the current generation phones. Will upgrade later if they (next generation phones) really have something good on the table to offer.
16GB enough for me. 720p will come, I m pretty sure. No HSPA+ in my country
LED notifications, we are not sure of it! And many other phones dont have a track pad.
Atleast I know whatever this phone has to offer will be "usable to fullest" bcos of good battery life (consider all the pitfalls of DHD) and XDA support
Overall should be a flawless phone with whatever is has to offer! If you are fine with its offering go for it. Else wait for another 3-4 months for the next generation phones

I have a G1 that is also in its last moments so i'm thinking about getting either Nexus S or MT4g.
I'm leaning more toward Nexus S because its vanilla android and will get the updates faster but also because I think that the community will embrace it more.

Advice Regarding Moving on From My Nexus One

I've had my Nexus One since April, and right now after seeing the new Nexus S (which is some-what disappointing in terms of upgraded hardware) I've decided it's time to move on. I'd like to sell before the Nexus S comes out since I believe the price of the Nexus One will decrease. I'm currently considering the following: G2, Nexus S, Captivate, Galaxy S i9000, and Mytouch 4G. The problem I'm having is deciding, see I would really love to have a front facing camera which would come in handy for me but, the phones that offer it don't work with AT&T 3G (except the i9000). So, I would like to get a captivate or i9000, but I'm not really fond of the i9000's design nor either's Touchwiz & Samsung's updates. I would really love a G2, since I could easily sell my Nexus and buy one with money to spare in some occasions and it's a very attractive device with great build quality (except for that hinge issue), but again, no AT&T 3G and no FFC. The Mytouch has the FFC, and is a nice phone and all but probably the ugliest thing EVER in my opinion. The Nexus S has everything I want (except for AT&T 3g) but, I would probably have to shell out $100-$200 to get it. So, what I need is advice. If you were in my situation, which would you choose? Thanks!

Still in a contract for another year :/
if i was in your situation i would not sell for a couple reasons
u will get STRESSED going back to edge. i mean its ridiculously slow coming for a 3g one
In a couple months they will be releasing some kick ass phones..wait patiently ..regardless the n1 is already depreciated
You will be trading one of the most customizables phones for some that you are not sure if it ll get the same support
IF you sign up for tmobile you buy one g2 and get 1 free (just got an email about that)

Get a Desire Z from bell canada, unlock it, and that's your G2 with AT&T 3g support.
The one I am impatiently waiting for is the Motorola Olympus for at&t. They say q1 of 2011, which is just when my warranty is running out for the n1.
the nexus one is still one of the best phones currently out there. my opinion at least. i hope to keep this phone another year before i get another itch. til then i hope my N1 doesn't get any scratches.
I'm looking at the desire Z also for the next phone. I'd like the price to come a bit first though. I haven't found it for less than 650 yet.
Wait a month 2 c whats new in 2011...
Went from a Nexus to a G2 then back to a Nexus to make some extra cash to get rid of the keyboard.
Currently I traded my Nexus for a new Mytouch 4G.
It is a very fast phone, solid build, decent camera, and its 4G, not to mention it has some nice novelties like front facing camera and a hard button for the camera and 720p recording out of the box.
Alot of people complain about the UI but i havent seen much slowdown or problems with it. It's a pleasure to use and i have yet to remove the battery bc it froze.
I went from a Galaxy S to the N1.
The screen is definitely a BIG step up from the N1, both in responsiveness and quality.
The phone itself though, frustrating. Good hardware potentially but crippled by bad implementation. Out of the box they are laggy and unstable. The GPS is basically useless for anything other than telling you where you are at that point. Start moving about, and its gone. Then its the going into a coma for no apparent reason.
The N1 is probably just about a more dependable device. Not sure I'd go for the SGS over an N1.
I would try to get a dual core phone with vanilla android. So I recommend that you wait.
my advice is it sucks but you have to just wait for an ATT 3G version to come out. just wait for a nexus S with att 3g is your only choice. the nexus one is still awesome enough to ride it out for a bit longer.

Well, see im stuck in a dilemma. I can either a. sell my nexus one on eBay right now for $450 (offer I just got) and add $for a Nexus S OR b. wait it out. The only thing i'm afraid of is that the nexus's value goes down and when NS comes out everyones gonna be selling and their gonna be a dime a dozen....
SO, what do you guys think I should do? I have until tomorrow to decide to sell...
Personal finances are different for everyone. If U need the bread now for an upgrade, then sell at the best price.
I say wait it out. The Nexus one is going to get Gingerbread soon and the value wont depreciate as fast as you're afraid it will. In a couple of months it will be on a very small list of phones running Gingerbread and people will be willing to pay top dollar for it.
I'm in the same boat. I can upgrade right now but there's nothing on AT&T compelling enough to make me switch. Hopefully CES will give me something to look forward to. That LG Star is actually looking surprisingly good, as is the Olympus, and I definitely want Tegra2 on my next phone.

Anyone else actually considering the Vibrant 4G?

I'm a serial phone swapper , but I'd have to say that the Vibrant (all GPS issues, the plasticy feel about it and lack of Samsung updates aside) was one of my favorite Android phones.
I'm seriously considering picking up the Vibrant 4G when it comes out. I love the screen, the call quality , and signal strength that it had. If this 2nd edition of the Vibrant lives up to those qualities of the first, I have no worries about picking one up!
Anyone else considering getting one?
If it was time for me to update on my contract I probably would.
I absolutely love this phone! Thankfully I've had no issues with GPS and honestly it doesn't feel as solid as my old G1 made by HTC. I only have a cheapy silicone case on it that I literally got for $3 from Japan thru ebay, and I've dropped it a few times from around 2-3 feet and the phone didn't miss a beat.
So even tho it feels light and cheap it def holds up, even with just a cheap case.
And yes , Samsung is horrible with the updates, but we've also found that it is also TMO's fault as well.
But IDC bout updates, we have the greatest devs giving us ROM's that make my phone feel literally 10 times faster and smoother than my g/f's stock Nexus S!
Also, I got a front facing camera from a buddy for $20. So My phone will be exactly like the 4G, aside from the fact of the 4G speeds of course.
i really was thinking about getting it and actually got as far as almost completin gmy ebay listing to sell my current vibrant before the price drops....but then i looked up some more details about the 4g and found out that it only has 1gb internal memory. Also, since the devs currently have vibrants, and the vibrant 4g isnt ThaT MUCh of an upgrade, i think they will stick with the current vibrant. So then the dev community will not be that strong for the 4g. Agreed, its an easy port between the two phones, but I personally have no idea how to do it and im pretty sure that all devs will be busy porting 2.3 etc to the current vibrant to pay much attention to the vibrant 4g....so im not jumping ship just yet
no
maybe when my 3g speeds max out everywhere i go, t-mobile lifts the 5gb throttle limit, or i actually find a use for a FFC. until then, i'm fine with the original
Not with Pyramid around the corner.

I am actually considering it, first i will see how far i get with customer loyalty(because my gps never truly worked on any rom), we've been with tmobile since voicestream(Probably won't matter to them anyways). If customer loyalty is willing to send a vibrant 4G at a reasonable price i will get it, if not i will wait for dual core. Honestly unless another manufacturer comes out with a super amoled+ display i don't see myself leaving samsung. They suck with updates but xda pushes out way better roms than stock.
My wife works for Tmobile so I'll be getting it She gets 3 free phones a year...so yeah
I won't be spending money on it, but I will be calling the customer loyalty department and finagling a free Vibrant 4G out of them for pulling a shenanigan like this.

[Q] Convince me

I just picked up a mt4g at the upgrade cost from t-mobile. I'm coming from a nexus one. I'm really on the fence, If I should just give it back and wait for a newer phone to use my upgrade credit. It just doesn't feel like a huge upgrade from my N1. I'm thinking I would like a 4+" screen too. I wish I had a date when the pyramid was available.
Should I keep my N1 a couple more months or move to the mt4g?
Go back to the n1 till summer.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
My wife has the mt4g, which is why I'm in here. It's a great phone, but I agree that it doesn't seem much better than the Nexus. If even say it's just different, in good and bad ways, and not necessarily better (probably the wrong place to say that?). I'm possibly just attached to my Nexus?
Anyway, you could wait forever for the next phone, and there's always the latest rumors - but the Pyramid does sound nice (first time I've even thought about switching).
There's certainly a lot worse than the mt4g!
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Didn't hear back from any actual mt4g owners.
I slept on it, and i'm going to be returning the phone to t-mobile today. It's nice enough phone and I give it props. Even with all the bloat crap on it, it did feel faster than my N1. I just wasn't blown away. I think it just goes to show how good the N1 was when it came out. I never dreamt that I would be happy with a single phone for more than a year.
Patience is not one of my virtues. I really hope T-mobile gets dual-core and big screen soon.
I was in a similar boat about a month ago. I was forced into getting a new phone though, as my Mytouch 3g finally fell the wrong way and the screen got smashed to bits. Was between the MT4G and the Nexus S, decided to go with the 4G for FFC, HSPCA+, and more RAM. Plus I like Sense and the sturdy body of the 4G. Like someone else alluded to, there will ALWAYS be the next cool thing just a month or 2 away, so you're never really future-proof with a new phone in that sense.
As for advising you on the phone itself, all I can say is that I think the MT4G is the best android (certainly the best TMO android) phone on the market right now. It's got extra RAM, good features, HSPA+. But if you're happy with the N1 for the next ? months, then wait it out. I just didn't have that option, and am very happy with the 4G.
Oh and one more thing regarding your last post - I'm sure it's a personal preference, but the screen size on the 4G is perfect for my tastes. It's big enough (little bit bigger than iphone) but still comfortable to hold and put in your pocket. The 4"+ screen sizes are great for media and web browsing, but were too big for me to really be comfortable with (again just personal opinion). I like to be able to just slip my phone in my jeans pocket.
i would wait for a few months for a newer phone.mt4g is great, but the newer hardware will be better.

Currently with the mytouch 4g, its a solid device! I really like it but its just bland to me, not much development for it. I loved the nexus one , trackball wake, and alert colors were very nice. Screen is still pretty good compared to some new models. I would recommend just keeping the nexus one till a new phone comes out. Heck I may sell the mytouch 4g for $300 today, and buy a vibrant for $150.
Neuxs one still has solid development of roms, which I still wonder into that area to look over whats going on. Mytouch 4g well it does have 4g services, and front facing camera....thats really the only differences that stand out. Heck I dont use the FFC nor can I use 4g since I'm unlocked on a local carrier, although I did hit 7.04 mbps today, highest to date.
Stay with the nexus one, itll still hold its value and its holding up well vs current phones

Are you reading the same forum I am????? Not much in Development for it???? Are you serious? Tons of work on multiple kernels, TONS of ROMs. So many themes and icons I can't even keep up.......I dunno where you get that its bland....Root the phone and go CM7 and get rid of the bloat and tell me the phone is bland.....
Sorry just find it weird that you think its a plain jane phone yet theres a plethora
of stuff to mod it with and make it your own....
The mt4g has a pretty solid development base, but it's relatively small compared to the N1... CM7 is cool, and probably the only unique ROM out there.
The development on the N1 is huge, which is why I'd struggle switching from it...
MT4G is a cool phone, but it's nothing ground breaking.

Yes I am reading the same forum, mytouch 4g ? Yes there isn't much development, phone has been rooted since day 1, on cm7....phone is bland. Nexus one there was just that much more development, mytouch 4g development base is small compared to the nexus one
I've seen, held, and used the Nexus One for over a week and I'd still choose the MT4G. Sure there might be more ROMs but you can't beat the fact that the MT4G has the better hardware still and more RAM.
Now for anyone with a G1 or MT3G its a no brainer the MT4G is better than the N1
As far as going from N1 to MT4G I would save your upgrade for a Dual Core.

Yes mytouch 4g does have the better hardware, being unlocked I'm not fully utilizing the device, hence I still prefer the nexus one. Both htc devices are solid, cant go wrong with either one
agreed. if you are looking for a major upgrade the MT4G is perfect and will hold its ground for a long time. But the leap in power and quality from the N1 to MT4G just isn't worth it.
But to say the MT4G community and features is bland is false. Sure its been rooted since day one but so was the N1. It allowed you to root it without hacking it. So its been customized for far longer than the MT4G has even been out. It will take off soon enough.

You cannot compare MT4G to Nexus One, that was the first google phone, now a days new phone comes out every couple of months people will buy what they like. Look at the Nexus S all the development have scattered to other models, G2, Z, HD, etc... all they have is GB and kernel, so many different versions its still GB And CM7 Lmao... MT4G has alot going for it that's why you came back

Depending on whatS more important to you. Do you Carr if you have a physical keyboard? Larger screen? Cause to be honest most phones are around the 1.MHz to 1.2mhz and m then you have the dual core. I love the mt. It can literally do anything. Just the other day I blew up a car with it. Pretty badass.

i would recommend either the mt4g slider or the sensation but are new phone and personally i think they are the 2 best phones t-mobile has. they are both $200 i think.if you want netflix on it then deffinately go with the my touch 4g slide it's on sale right now on the site and comes out in like a week in the stores, so hold on and wait for that one if you want a my touch phone
The only problem for you would be getting MT4G at a price of $200 (assuming that your declared location is correct, which means you won't be buying a contract deal with T-Mobile, but paying full cash for the phone - in which case it'll cost you $450 with T-Mobile or a bit cheaper - just a bit below $400 - on eBay).
Personally, I think it's the most cost-effective phone on the market right now.
just wait for a month or so and get some dual core action when they are more mainstream

This phone can be troublesome with the chance of a bad screen/chip, I would just go for a dual core phone, they're faster and have better battery due to the way 2X cores work compared to 1 core devices. They will have better support for longer. But I'm waiting to get a new device when the Nexus 3 is around or Ice cream sandwich is out. When ICS is out they will have 720P res and no more HW buttons according to the news. And Quad-cores are in the works so it's really up to you, I would save my money up and stay with the G1, you had it this long so why not wait a little bit more? This phone is nice, but it's defiantly showing it's age now, official support will be dropped for this in a few months i'm guessing for the MT4GS and the successor for the MT4G, maybe MTHD or something.

I came from a g1 and it lasted me 15 months b4 i decided i needed a faster phone and it really was painfully slow compared to phones out these days, i lucked out and got a sweet deal on my current mt4g phone(even tho it has bad emmc chip, i still got a good display and no problems so far...) on craigslist. Which saved me my upgrade that's in august, but now that i have the mt4g it's really not as hard to decide to wait on the Hercules, Nexus 3 or whatever else is around the corner in 2012
Wait it out a bit longer if you've decided on the mt4g the slide is dual core beast, even the sensation will be fully unlocked and available to public in days.
Ace has a good point tho

Because you don't know what issues the Slide has then I wouldn't tell someone that this phone would be less troublesome. The Mytouch 4G could turn out to be a G2X, awesome phone if you have one that works. I'm sure everyone said the screen was great on the Mytouch, until they started comparing, and how long did it take to start noticing the very minor problem of the chips?
Get a MT4G from Craigslist... I always see them going for about 150-200$. Then keep that until the merger. That way you can get a phone with the appropriate bands. No use in using your upgrade then having the phone to be unusable within 8 months.

You don't say? That's like saying you traded up to a Corvette from a Yugo, and what do you know, the Vette was faster!
Hercules is gonna be ATT ready if the merger does go thru, so unless HTC makes the next nexus phone and has similar if not better specs then Samsung Hercules I'm upgrading to some super amoled + greatness.

Only thing the infuse has in common with the hercules is the 4.5 inch screen and internal storage, the hercules has:
dual core 1.2 ghz Qualcom processor
1gb ram
42mb radio
NFC
1080p recording
Dunno about the battery yet, but those specs alone have me sold unless the nexus 3 can dethrone it.
**I got my mt4g thru craigslist as well lol**
From what I see, the OP is from Israel. So I guess craigslist will not work

They have Craigslist in Israel
I'd guess that the OP is visiting or about to visit the US, that's why he's asking.

The nexus prime is suppose to have a 720P HD screen, ICS, no buttons on front, super amoleds, OMAP4460 @1.5GHz. It looks really nice too with no buttons.
