I looked around on the forum and also google but could not find the information. I used to have a Nexus One and fully backed up by the goolge service. On the Nexus One when I install a new rom Google Backup automatically restored all my apps.
I just got a new Nexus S and all I got restored was my wallpaper and my Wifi home password. Is there a way to restore all my apps from Google Backup (not from the market) or is it too late and the new Nexus S has overwritten the google backup.
Anybody?
( I know I can to the titanium but no time yet, I wanted a simple google backup thing)

is it possible to backup my current contacts, sms or my system settings from my actual HD2 ROM (Desire HD 3.06.405.1 - Sense 3.0 - Android 2.3.5 [v1.3][HierOS 1.7.2])?? I just want to try some other ROMs but i would like to recover my contacts and sms after doing that...
my contacts get synch'd to google

Use Titanium backup software. You can take trial version from market. I think is perfect for backup everything during reflashing

Hello Alex91284. I posed the same kind of question not too long ago Here, and Here. I ended up doing both a Titanium backup, which is great when updating the current rom or restoring to the same type of rom, but I found going from ACA(CM7) to a Sense rom (Runnymede) didn't work out so well for system data and account info (one used an Accounts ap, and the other an Accounts and Sync ap, ect, ect), and also found MyBackup root, which was great for backing up settings and contacts/sms/mms/call log/ect. If your like me and don't want to put your data online in 'the cloud' then I'd suggest using MyBackup root, its free and pretty good. I still use Titanium for downloaded aps though, so I can't say how well MyBackup will work for them.
Want to transfer settings, profile and everything possible from old 8GB Nexus 7 to my new 16GB Nexus 7. Not rooted. Original OS. Not sure I ever backed anything up yet into cloud. Definitely have not backed up to my pc. Have AmazonData, Google Data and Dropbox Cloud. How to I back up everything possible. The apps I already bought I assume I just reinstall from Google Play store. Any way paid apps can be restored from any backup? Thanks
Titanium backup can restore your apps and app data, it might be able to restore some of your setting too. They should stay linked to the market.
You could move the backup files to online or just to your computer. As long as they go in the same directory in the new one, as they came out of the old one, titanium backup will be able to restore them.

OK, thanks. I did buy Titanium backup, but unfortunately I did not get super user or root my 8GB Nexus 7. Installing Titanium backup on my new 16 GB Nexus as well as getting superuser will be my first priority.
Your post did give me more confidence in using both my computer and using Google Cloud backup. When I checked my settings I saw that I had checked "back up my data" and automatic restore it, and also had my main Google email account set as the "back up account."
I will back up the 8 GB to both. However, I am still uncertain whether I can automatically restore my settings and profile and passwords from the 8GB Nexus back up onto my new 16 GB Nexus.
No worries mate, just glad I could help. Yeah, you did the right thing with the back up my data. It should restore at least some of your setting. (Not been able to test this feature yet, not got another N7 yet )
(Would love to use the online backup feature in TB, but upload on my internet is useless. Only get about 50kbps....)
Personally, I think it's best if it doesn't save passwords. I'm always suspicious about these type of things......
Definitely unlock and root first. You can always re lock and un root if you need to send it back for any reason. Besides, it's always nice to have a little more freedom. Just so you know, OTA Root Keeper will keep root if you do OTA updates, just learn how to use it first.
Good luck with transferring your setting over, can't see it taking long. It's always nice to use a new piece of tech anyway, no matter what your doing
[Q] Moving from "old" nexus 4 to "new" nexus 4 via Nandroid backup?
I just got my warranty replacement nexus 4 (Google support is amazing!), and want to transfer stuff from my "old" nexus 4 to my "new" nexus 4. Is it possible to do it via NANDROID backup? Is there any information that depends on the actual hardware information (maybe things like google login is in some way connected to the serial number of the phone)?

You can do it that way but I would prefer starting fresh with only restoring app data..
Back up your current apps with carbon (recommend just doing app data), and copy the carbon folder and everything else on the sd card you need to your computer. Sign into your new phone and let the apps download. Copy the carbon folder and everything else you need onto your new device. Restore all the apps data.

seriously you could do some damage AFAIK (at least that was the case on my HTC desire or G1 as i recall some similiar thread on xda)
feel free to restore Carbon / Titanium / Mybackup applications and their data but not the WHOLE nandroid !!!
of course i could be wrong and restoring nandroid could be 100% safe.
but as i said i do recall some guy messing things up by exactly doin that, just cant remember which phone was that.
As others have said, using Titanium or a similar backup app is probably the safest option. One thing you could try is doing a full backup but then doing an 'advanced restore' in recovery and only restoring the /data partition. I'm not entirely sure whether this will work but it was fine on my old HD2. Still, I personally see Titanium as being the best solution.
Thanks everybody for the advice, yea I have Titanium licence and I feel I bought carbon as well (I like supporting good developers), so I'll try it that way.
@dzumagos: thanks for warning, I was going to test it if it works, but after reading your post - I think I'll just stick with Titanium or Carbon.
I used a nandroid to my replacement and it worked like a charmed. Titanium backup sucks and always puts my phone not a boot loop.
on an older phone, htc evo 4g I had 2 phones, the nandroid would not restore on the second phone, the device id or something was different.

This is an opinion, so don't state it as a fact. I reckon I've used Titanium well over 30 times to backup/restore (I was constantly changing ROMs on my HD2) and it has never failed me. As long as you don't mess with system settings and are sensible with what you restore you should never have a bootloop when using Titanium.
What's the best way to move apps and data from n5 L to 6p M? Can we just move the Titanium BU folder to the new device and restore data? Google doesn't restore apps and data from Amazon, and seems to miss some other game data. Just restore Titanium app with Google restore? Or does nfc work with all apps and data (never tried it)?

I usually make backups of only the apps I'm concerned about, plus a keyboard.apk I like, plus Amazon stuffs...
Then copy the folder into the SD card area of the new device.
Install TB from Play store on new phone.
Remove apps I'll be restoring, because they auto-installed, and it's kind of annoying but whatever.
Point TB to the folder I copied over, and restore one at a time. I've had some apps go sideways on a batch restore, but I don't know if it was the batch restore or the backup itself which caused the issue. Either way, I do one at a time now.

The First rule of TB is you never restore system apps.
The Second rule of TB is you NEVER restore system apps.
III Commandment : Thou shalt restoreth system apps never, or thy soul shall burn in heck.
If an app you plan on restoring DID NOT AUTO-GOOGLE-RESTORE-thingy during setup, it's a big tip it might not be compatible in some way in your new OS version / device. Go to Play store and check.
Games and other apps that already backup to the cloud - skip those, or at least don't restore them until you install from Play store normally and see how they recover. If they recover fine, then great.
Restore a small # of apps at a time, and test them all.

I would like some help I'm on my new 1+5 about 1 week
And I noticed it not restored Google backup I had to reinstall all my apps, set wifi passwords manually, etc...
Now I can't see any reference in Google Drive, I can see just my N5X (Android O)
And I noticed this is SS
my apps didn't restore either. i noticed a question during setup that said something about restoring, but the wording made it sound like a direct NFC/bluetooth copy of files from another phone.
