Hello,
I just got my galaxy tab from Bell in Canada.
I installed Kies from one of the links provided in the rooting threads. I did however manage to root the device without syncing with Kies.
However, whenever I try to connect to Kies with my galaxy tab (after selecting the Kies mode on the GT) it says that the device is not supported.
I've tried pretty much everything without success:
- uninstall/reinstall kies
- uninstall/reinstall drivers
- install homeswitcher
Not quite sure what the deal is here..
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Same here, (Bell Tab) and it works fine with my Galaxy S.
I suspect some of the firmware versions aren't entered into the Kies database just yet.
It is good to know that I am not the only one experiencing this.
Thanks!
I posted about this a couple days ago, same problem here. Never got mine to work. Good luck, my post pretty much disappeared, lol. Must not be important enough for people to really help with it yet. Let me know if you get it!

There's probably not enough people with this problem to make it worth looking into.
I'm guessing as numbers increase, this might become more of a pressing issue.
Hopefully it won't take too long to get this fixed.
Very true. Time will tell.

Installed Kies on W7 and Vista - no result
Kies refuses to recognize the Galaxy Tab Canadian version even after I installed on Windows 7 and Vista.
I even rooted it (I can use Android Commander on it) but Kies simply refuses to see it.
Kies Mini supports it
I finally managed to install the Kies app from Samsung to help with backup and upgrades.
In my case I bought the device from Canada so I registered with Samsung Canada and then in my account I selected the device, switched to Software tab and downloaded the Kies Mini for it.
It seems to work, at least I did a backup from it.
Strange as it may sound all my Kies "not recognised" problems went away when I installed Windows Media Player 11.
I had the same problem about not being recognised with Kies, but only after my tab was rooted. unrooting was no help, it was fixed by unchecking "usb-error" in the subtab development. hope it might help.
Im having the same problem with Kies and Kies mini on my tmo tab.
Any new solutions??
Just got notified by Samsung Apps that there is a new firmware for the camera. However when trying to install it reports latest version installed.

Nothing new for me. The problem is the 'update' remains in the 'new' list even after you have installed it, making you think there is a new one when there isnt.
I checked the dates. Old one was 26th of may. New is 2nd june.

At Samsung Apps says:
Version: 11.5.01 (Jun 2, 2011)
is this new ?
Its probably ROM dependant then, what versions are you running?

They are probably finding better ways to compress images and improve quality. It's good to see to be honest. Having a team dedicated to improving the camera means a better experience for us as users.
I have yet to see any CAM updates for my GSII that was bought from Expansys-USA. It is the UK model. I go into Samsung Apps and never see anything for any camera updates.
Got my Replacement today, updated via the Official Samsung Apps Camera FW Update.
New FW is now OCEE09.
Pink Spot has actually gone less! Not Really noticeable now but you can tell It's there.
It might be a hardware issue or not... but the Nexus One had it pretty bad and it eventually got resolved with a software tweak so I'm sure the same can be done here.
I think the Nexus S had it too but that might've been sorted out as well.

I was wondering how you guys are able check it from Samsung Apps. I tried to open Samsung Apps but like market they just have apps. How do you upgrade each each app without actually upgrading the Firmware ???
Need your help guys. Thanks
Just go into Samsung Apps and then Search and type in Camera, pops up a Samsung GS2 Camera firmware app, download, install, run then uninstall. Simples.
So I just wanted to say that I flashed my vzw cdma tab with the rooted virgin stock gingerbread provided by Oldmacnut.
It works perfectly!! I had been running stock froyo with voodoo kernel...but what I have now works great.
Skype with video!
3g, gtalk with video installed using another thread here.
Adw launcher works fine...i just restored my apps with titanium.
I would have posted this on the development thread Oldmacnut started for this release but this is my very first post after following a few threads for the last couple of months.
Anyway this is what I was waiting for!
So thanks to Oldmacnut and the guys he got it from.
I'm keeping my eye on your gb rom Oldmacnut and spacemoose's honeycomb.
Thanks for all the silent help Ive gotten from XDA haha...

Does this have the screen density set tiny at 182 or standard (240)? I flashed the other de-bloated version but went back to Froyo because I got tired of squinting at everything.
If it looks the same as the de-bloated version, I'll just stick with Froyo.

Not at all...I read that about that version but like Oldmacnut said this official release looks almost exactly like froyo...except for the numbers (version, kernel, etc...)
Everything is the same size.
It's worth it.
On another note: I did try getting cwm recovery using the bootstrapper but it after wipe it stalled at the samsung logo so I put it back into download mode and reflashed the ginger stock...i don't really need cwm right but it would be nice (and a kernel i can oc)
Updated my Tab to Sprint 2.3.4, now some questions
I took my US Cellular/VZW tab and flashed using Heimdall using this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161033&highlight=sprint
It worked perfectly! I have full root (At least I think I do), all my apps were there and working, and I still had my Bluetooth devices there and working. My only issue is that in 2.2 on VZW, I could put the Tab into airplane mode and the wifi and BT would still work. I did that so I could save battery life as I only use the Tab wifi only. Now in 2.3.4, when I select airplane mode, I can get wifi but not BT. I have to disable airplane mode to get the BT to work. Does anyone know if this is a Sprint-ism or Gingerbread-ism? How about this, is it possible to turn off the radio altogether and not worry about airplane mode?
Would like to try also
I tried their download link and am unable to download the stock rom. Currently running the modified release and everything seems to work ok except a couple of items. Want to test the stock version to see if it fixes those issues, but can't seem to download the rom. The file doesn't show up when I click on the download link. Maybe just me???
I flashed this as well and it's awesome. Much prefer it to the molested version.
Bloated stuff I don't like I removed with SDX app remover.

If I remember correctly the link takes you to the Android Door website where you can download it there from Oldmacnut's blog. If there are issues with the rom I think its from how its being improved upon which I want to check out once its bug free or close enough. So the stock isn't going to have the same issues. But I can say that I haven't had any problems with it other than VZW Bootstrapper not working and not being able to find a modded kernel.

His rom is 182 but you can change it to 240 easily. I did not like the small icons I changed the setting in build.prop back to 240 and it is great.
I too have downloaded this and found it to be exceptional. Would love to post my comments on the dev site but I am too new. It is nice to have someone working on the future updates being that Verizon is focused on 10.1

I think you can go into "Settings - Verizon Data Service" and uncheck the "Use mobile data service" and that turns off the 3G. At least least I don't have connection when I do that and have wifi off. You can also still enable bluetooth with the "mobile data service " unchecked.
Just an update...
I am still running this on my Tab with no problems.
Still keeping an eye for any custom GB kernels to pop up so I can oc and maybe use voodoo sound again or something similar. And a custom recovery.
Btw I'm putting my comments here so as not muck up the development threads.

No problems here, also, and I have to agree that this is far from "worthless". I'm a developer and closer to stock I can get, the less I have to care about whether or not some given app works on some given hacked system. Plus there's always something screwy with hacked systems. The camera doesn't work, the screen dpi is set to where I can't read it, "bloatware" is randomly removed without considering what it will alter or break by removing it, the unit simply refuses to boot after a point...it's always something. Always. I'm not slamming the hackers, lots of people use their systems and appreciate them, I'm simply citing years and years of personal experience. So yeah, the closer I am to stock, the happier I am which makes this very useful.
Where can I find the leaked stock ROM? I'm not sure I follow the suggestion to look in "dev"... link?
I've had no problems at all with 2.3.4 on the Tab, but after flashing I have had problems with the keyboard dock. It no longer automatically recognized it when docked and when I finally persuaded it to work some of the keys were remapped the pound symbol (#) became the pound sterling symbol and the " and @ exchanged places.
I use the dock quit a lot and so reverted to stock, but I do miss Skype with video!
This is basicly the same as miui, but based on ics framework, which make it faster and better.
I wanted to bring you this good news XD
From Galnet:
Galnet MIUI ICS is our experimental builds for the Ice Cream Sandwich framework being introduced into MIUI. These builds don’t look any different, however they do come with some of the ICS benefits such as power management and ram management.

•The battery calibration will kick in straight away once flashing this rom, therefore you will find that the battery drains quicker than before. Please allow it to drain to around 5% before recharging fully back to 100% for the perfect calibration.
•Updater may FC on first boot, don’t worry about it, as it will work correctly once this occurs.
•Phone call recording (This is something that we won’t support due to legal issues within the UK, please don’t expect it).
Credit to galnet and all who participated
I flashed this yesterday, pretty stable and everything seems to work. There are a few things people should be aware of.
1. There is no voice control
2. If you synch your FB contacts you need to go into the FB app and tell it to synch
3. The battery life is so so
4. Make sure that you do a factory restset, clear cache partition, and clear dalvik before flashing.
Other than those things, this is a really nice ROM, very slick, very fast, and seems to be stable.

Don't know if that helps any, I was wondering myself if there are any other compatible Kernels that may help with battery life
Say I was on (rooted, custom rom Paragon 6) 2.2, I could just stick it on the card and flash over or must I flash a cm7 kernel and then flash rom over that?

Also, OP, do you have anything to do with the Galnet project, or just providing a link?

I use JB on my SGS3, not much difference from ICS
Still I would like to have JB on my tab, so I flashed a CM10 based ROM, if on one hand it was easier to have status bar on top, like the phone, I didnt like the large soft buttons, they use too much screen space
So I stay in ICS until there is a Samsung leak

Does JB force the 'desktop' to be portrait mode, or is that only a Nexus 7 'thing'?
I usually use my Tab in portrait anyway (it seems more natural with the ~7" form factor) but I'd prefer to have the desktop orient to whichever way I happened to be holding the tablet when I exit an application.

If you change your DPI to 160 (the original value for the 7.7), CM10 goes back to Tablet mode (the default is 213 DPI, whih gives you the "phablet" mode introduced by the Nexus 7). I'm using it in this configuration for a long time now.

[RANT]I don't understand people who use a forum called xda DEVELOPERS and have an anti-development attitude. "This has lots of bugs and will never work", "they will never fix it", "Samsung knows it best", etc. We have a single developer for CM9 and CM10, who has bricked his own device irrecoverably, then got a new one to keep developing. Will there be bugs? Of course. Just like Samsung's ICS has bugs. But the developers for CM actually do listen to users, and try to fix whatever issue you may have (which is more than I can say about Samsung, since they introduce new bugs, like our WiFi on ICS, or even add a bricking option to an unbrickable phone, like the Galaxy S2 from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4).
If you don't support the active development being made by our fine members, you may find other forums where you won't even see that option. And where your comments won't be offensive to people who are doing their best to make your device more usable.[/RANT]

If you don't support the active development being made by our fine members, you may find other forums where you won't even see that option. And where your comments won't be offensive to people who are doing their best to make your device more usable.[/RANT]

I used CM on my SGS1 and SGS2 until we got ICS, wich is good enough not to need CM, any way, I dont think it is necessary to play with DPI and processor speed, never did it...
I've tried a handful of custom roms too. And I'd say KUDOS to all the Devs for their hardwork. But I'm still finding myself going back to stock ICS. Specially now that I've updated mine to the official ICS for my Tab's country/region.
With JB update, I'm still positive we'll be getting it.

The custom ROMs based on official releases have the advantage of eliminating bloatware, and the kernels of eliminating most debugging, I stay away of the ones that play with speed and density :good:

Exactly - still no sign of ICS for my UAE version GT-6800 yet, either OTA or KIES. Not holding my breath for Jellybean and debating whether or not to flash my device myself using ODIN and a d/led Austrian ROM.

Don't bother to flash to any of ICS update as those are not reliable.
After flashing dozens of ROM,l have settled for stock honey Comb.
Wait for wifi bug to be fixed.

Ashwin
