Hi all,
Bought my Wildfire, paid more money to get the black one. Turns out it has Asia ROM (Singapore, SEA). Also turns out Asia are the least likely to get firmware updates on time (ironic for a Taiwan based company).
Don't want to root. But want to run UK / Europe firmware.
Have looked at the FOTA updates, they all seem to be a collection of patch files and the SEA ROM has a different firmware version to the UK firmware.
Have seen a few RUU files posted around. Would this be what I would need to flash the UK version?
Few questions I would be grateful if someone could answer:
1. Is this region change via RUU even possible or will I just brick my phone.
2. Would this mess up future updates (how do HTC determine whether there are applicable updates? IMEI?)
3. Is there a better way?
4. Where do the (seemingly leaked) RUU files come from? Any way to guarantee authenticity?
Thanks for your time,
Matthew

1. Yes with help of a "Gold Card"
2. not sure , never got an OTA Upgrade before , i run a custom rom
3. Gold Card and RUU for version you want , would recommend rooting it anyways so you have access to recovery / nandroid backup
4. shipped-roms.net look for htc buzz
PS
Be aware that if you run the RUU for Froyo 2.2.1 you will not be able to root your phone afterwards.
Any Probs let me know and will help if i can

It said the software will be published OTA from 4 June (of course, GMT+8)
For all we know that account could have been made by anyone??
I do hope it's true... but I am a real sceptic and pessimist and most of all a realist...
We'll see.

Beauty. I just downloaded it and unzipped it. Looks like it will be easy to repack for rooted users. It comes with new radio firmware. Hope it's not branded in any way.

Um.. sorry if this is a dumb question, but my Hero's version is 2.73.405.5 and that's the latest ROM Version according to htc.com/europe/
so.. is that version getting the update or is it just the 2.73.751.13 the Taiwanese version and 2.73.405.5 the European one and both are practically the same?
Hooraaay for 2.1 (party)
Update consists of series of binary patches, so probably it won't apply to anything but 2.73.751.13

It upgrades to (Android 2.1 3.31.751.1) from 2.73.751.13 OTA.
It's doubtful you'll be able to use the image as is from another ROM. But rooted users should be able to use a repacked version with no problem. It comes with a new radio, so care would have be taken to make sure there is no funkiness with current engineering SPLs.
now just need patient to wait for cooked rom
hi. im newbie and haven't root my hero. my hero is firmware singapore version.2.73.707.9 can i upgrade my
hero with this? or i should wait for south east asia version roll out? thanks.
sorry for.noob question...
sorry to say that you must have a taiwan version phone to update
First update to 2.73 will probably include some patches for the OTA client.
Not wanting to put a downer in this but haven't htc always told us we'll see a small ota update before the offical update to 2.1.
This sounds like it's taking them direct to 2.1
Well in Europe it looks like we have currently to wait, but there are another News about the OTA-UPdate on the European Site for Legend and Bravo :

Hi , this is my first post im new here, Ive got 2 Heros coming from the UK, one is unlocked but the other is on T-mobile, both are running 1.5 android
Can someone point out to me the steps involved to Root both these devices and transfer a Custom htc hero 2.1 android Firmware to them......
Im used to flashing nokias and iphones but this android is totally new to me so i want to do it properly.
Thanks for any help or links to the things i need and topics on this
P.s Or do people recormmend just updating though HTC Site ? ( although i wud want 2.2 on these when ever that becomes avail ) hehe
Thanks peeps
Its about time this update came out. I don't see why the Droid Eris got the update months ago yet the GSM Hero has take so much longer. This is the reason I sold my Hero and got a Desire.

Hi,
I've just updated my Legend to the 2.03.403 version. So far i noticed that there's a new version of the quickoffice, improved performance and battery. Most Important multi-touch (pinch zoom)for Google maps!Has anybody figured out any new / additional feature beside what i mentioned ?
Without a garantueed method to root this update or a pre-rooted version I won't touch this even with a ten-foot pole.
Just convert your sdcard into goldcard. That's it. Launch the official RUU file...install it... and you're ready!
No, I was not talking about "How can I do this" but about the implications of that update.
There is no root-version of it for now, or is there?
The version is unrooted. Nothing will be rooted. You're using an original version with no changes... should be totally fine.
If you flash this to your rooted phone, you loose the rooting..
I didn't have rooted it. Just goldcard. And yes you loose the root.
this new firmare is out from today? WHere can I read my firmware version to check what version I have?

No OTA for now, you have to flash this like a normal rom, but you might need a Goldcard.
So:
Create Goldcard (It's somewhere on this forum)
Put the Goldcard in your phone
Turn on the phone
Connect your phone to your pc
Run the RUU from your pc and follow the steps
It should flash the new rom, but remember that you'll loose root!
If you haven't rooted, there is no problem
One change I've noticed is that I can now use the map background from Terra Time - it would not work before.
Now that I have installed this update does it mean that I can no longer root my phone?
Another change - I can now open up the full youtube site when tethered instead of getting palmed off to the mobile site.

It has Russian keyboard, but it is hidden (at least, on my phone).
I had to set my locale to Russian with MoreLocale. This switches the entire UI to Russian unfortunately, but enables Russian in HTC IME.
Same was true for my original 1.xx ROM.

just updated on ger unbranded legend with win7 pro 64 bit without any problem... now testing ;-) ...
Is there swedish language included in this?
Is this ROM have English lang available on it? I bought my legend from india (1.32).
Will i be able to get OTA updates from HTC after flashing this ROM? I guess i ll also lose my warranty?
Please tell me as i want to flash this ROM desparately.
Hi guys,
My software version on phone is:
1.31.405.5
My locale is English(Norway).
Why don't i get OTA update 2.13.xxxx or any update begin with 2?
When i go to HTC official support site i see that only when i choose India as country i can see this update.Strange.How to know the region on my phone? Is it based on locale? For example if i choose English(norway)than my region is Europe. That's a bit confusing for me.Can someone explain
Thanks in advance
I am in the same situation (locale English (Czech Republic)). Have no idea why am I still on 1.31.405.5. I hope the Froyo will be avaiable to all regions at the same time (at least in europe).
it wont be that way, there will be differences of a week at least, thats how they do it , i believe they don't won't to stress the downlad servers
There were definitely some issues with the 2.xx upgrade (I lost Wifi capabilities until I forced a revert back to 1.31 firmware and reupdate) so it wouldn't surprise me that the update got pulled.
Can be.So we have to wait for Froyo
Thanks
Although the update for the HTC legend is available and many have successfully updated their phone to version 2.05.405.2. I did not get this update!
I have contacted HTC support and they said:
"Dear Mr.Mrdja Thank you for contacting HTC. Kindly note that your device is up to date and there is no other ROM update available for the moment. Please check our website periodically and search for the latest updates. If you have any other inquiries , do not hesitate to contact us again. If it was branded! Unless I am mistaking?
If it's rooted, flashing an OTA would remove the root and then becomes more complicated to get it back (needs to downgrade back that 1.31 again)
So you may just want to flash it yourself with recovery/ClockWorkMod

2.10 is a Vodafone AU rom
1.31.405.5 is a WWE rom
Somehow, there's no upgrade path to get to 2.03.405.3
Kwen, thanks for the information.
I've contacted with HTC support and this is what they say:
Kindly be informed that the latest update released for your handset is the 1.31.X version, for the time being, there're no further upgrades for your handset, please note that the HTC Legend is one of the devices that received the Android 2.2 upgrade, however, for the time being, there's no information regarding its date of release.
Please note that the update will initially roll out to unlocked HTC Desire handsets. Operator specific versions of the update are undergoing testing and we expect to make them available in several weeks’ time.”

I don't see the point of the branded devices getting updates that stock free devices don't get... very strange: I thought that first an official OTA update comes out and then each company modifies this update to put it's ****ty logos and shortcuts.
So... the latest WWE version is 2.03.405.3, but im still on 1.31.405.5 ... !!! WTF !??!
Is there a way to manually update my phone or something or some guide for RUU ... ?!
Froyo is on the way and i don't think i can get it without the latest update!!

For some reason there is no direct upgrade path from 1.31.405.5 to 2.03.405.3. The 2.03 RUU is here.
But at this point I have no idea which WWE versions they're going to release OTA updates for - because I'm assuming many people do not RUU their phones and are therefore still on 1.31 like you. Also some others are on the 2.05.405.2 ROM that was faulty and therefore that OTA update was pulled!
Thx dude !
hi guys,
I've done some research on this forum and found out (if I'm not mistaken) that HTC must have pulled the OTA update to 2.03 off their site because of the SMS bug. So basically there's no official (direct) way of updating from 1.31 to 2.03/2.05, if you want, you can still download the shipped one from shipped rom and flash it manually!
I'm considering waiting for froyo or updating my (rooted) 1.31 to (rooted) 2.03 though.

Why would you update to 2.03 instead of Froyo if your phone is already rooted? Check the Development section. There are several rooted Froyo ROMs out and you can still revert if you don't like it.
Wondering about 1.31.405.5 Froyo
Hello everyone,
I love this script on zubu.ca/legend/fota_check.php and I've lost the count on how many times I pressed F5 while on it, but still no luck for me.
I've got an HTC Legend (unbranded with carrier Vodafon). It's got build 1.31.405.5 (CL154058 RK) and according to the FOTA-checker there's no update available.
My question is basically: Why is there no update, and do I need another update before I get the Froyo update? I know HTC stated that every Legend will have Froyo by the 5th of december and it's not the 5th yet. But still, many Legends have it already and like I said I'm bad at waiting XD
Thanks in advance.
Hi!
I'm completely new to WP7. I bought a HTC Trophy last week that unfortunately is branded with Vodafone. I live in Sweden and bought it from a company here in Sweden who take the devices from Europe. I don't know the exact country. I guess it is a Vodafone device from German since the pdf manual on the CD is German.
My questions:
1. How can I be sure that I choose the correct ROM?
2. If I choose wrong, will I brick my device?
3. Debranding. I guess it's a one time procedure? If I debrand it I will get the updates directly from Microsoft and the device is still debranded after a update?
By the way. Great forum! Developers, keep up the excellent work!

1. Go to Settings -> System -> About -> More info
Find your operator here from this thread
Then you need to find appropriate ROM for your device.
2. It should not let you flash wrong ROM even if you try. Update utility check your phone model and CID. So it should be safe.
3. If you unbrand your device, you will still get updates from MS, and from HTC. If you for some reason want to install branded ROM later, you can do that at any time (if there is a branded ROM for your device), check here.
i am going to use this thread to post a question. After battling with wm 6.5 for more than an year i went to wp 7. I am new to the operating system and i wan't to know if there is any real need to go for a different Rom than the one that came with my device. Is there a need to unbrand the phone?

Well, for me personally I unbranded my phone mostly for two things.
1. The annoying Vodafone page that I came to when pressing search button in Internet Explorer.
2. In the future I hopefully get the updates as soon as Microsoft releases it. When branded I had to wait for Vodafone to test the update.

I'm actually planning to buy a WP7.. wondering does it same as winmo which we dont nid Rooting ? or it is like Android or iOS tat we nid rooting/JailB ? thanks..
Debranding has nothing with jailbreak to do. I'm not sure if jailbreak is possible on latest WP7 release. For me jailbreak isn't an option. Just wanted to get rid of all Vodafone stuff in my device.
