[Q] Pausing Live Wallpaper when opening app drawer? - Galaxy Tab General

Hi. I recently tried to find out from the LauncherPro forum if there is a way to rectify a lag problem when using Live wallpaper and the app drawer but apparently there is just no way? I'm having trouble believing and thought I'd post it here.
Basically, if using a live wallpaper, the app drawer is REALLY choppy/laggy and skips frames. I was thinking perhaps if there is a way to "pause" the LWP or something like that when pulling the app drawer.
This is the original topic from the LauncherPro forum:
http://launcherpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1890

The very reason I stopped using LiveWallpapers.
All fine and dandy showing off when iPhone users are around, but disabling LWP brings my TAB back to silky smooth operation.

I can give you one to play with if you want. Its a work in progress as far as a full home-replacement app. I am working on making an app drawer, then making everything around that. Like I said, I can make an .apk for you that is a simple grid view that shows all the apps on the device and launches them. There is a random layout animation that plays when the gridView is first called. Just pm me if you would like to try it out

Swipe to change home screens not working all the time!

Ok so this is a weird problem.
90% of the time the phone works 100% perfectly.
Sometimes when I try to swipe between homescreens the phone does nothing...its not locked up because the capacitive buttons work, and tapping the bottons on the bottom will let me switch home screens without a problem, it is JUST swiping that wont work.
A reboot of the phone makes swiping work again...any ideas? This is super weird.
Are you using the default Gingerbread launcher? I heard a lot of people were having trouble with that at the outset. Haven't heard as much about it lately, but I'm not sure if that's because it's been fixed or just because everyone's either learned to live with it or switched launchers.
Back when I was using the stock launcher, I experienced that a few times too. I also experienced other glitches and oddities, like difficulty in moving icons on my home screen or sometimes when trying to move icons, they would disappear and appear instead in a folder. Very random stuff. Anyway, the screen swiping issue also showed up a few times.
I've since switched to ADW launcher and haven't looked back.
Gingerbread is glitchy. That much is clear. Hopefully Google will issue more bug fixes soon.
Training am using the stock launcher. I really like the 3d app drawer and it is buggy in launcher pro. How is it in adw?

I find ADW to be thoroughly awesome. You can give the free ADW.Launcher a try, but it's missing a few features that are in the paid version ADWLauncher EX, including the 3D app drawer. Unfortunately, you don't get much of a trial period now that Google has reduced their refund window to 15 minutes, but you ought to be able to test out the app drawer and play around with the other features at least a bit in that time if you want.
I too vouch for ADW. The free version itself is quite an excellent launcher. I used to be an avid LauncherPro fan back on my Vibrant, but on the Nexus S, ADW is smooth as butter. The ability to customize your icons on the home screen (which is only available in the paid LP version) is great too. Virtually no hiccups whatsoever swiping through screens.
Either case, it's tons better than stock launcher.
I have the same exact problem and I'm all stock. I usually reboot all apps and programs using FastReboot from the market and it goes back to normal. I agree that Gingerbread still has its glitches still =[
So if o pay for adw launcher the 3d drawer works fine?

Who knows? Download it and see. All I can tell you is it works great for me.
The stock launcher is buggy as hell. I use launcher pro and it runs flawlessly.

The 3d app drawer (called 4d app drawer in adw) runs horribly on the nexus s. If you plan on changing launchers, adw is good, but the only decent app drawer to select for it is horizontal fling.
Adw holds up relatively well now on the nexus s (ran like arse on 2.3.1). Sometimes however adw will all of a sudden freeze though. You think your phone is frozen but it's not, the launcher has just slowed down to a crawl. The launcher buttons at the bottom work fine when this issue occurs, but swiping of screens will appear not to work.
If you get this problem in adw, you have to go into applications and find adw, then force close it (it doesn't appear as running under task killers, so you can't kill it from there). It will then run fine again. I have had this happen a couple of times with adw and I used to think I had to reset the phone. Was a pain.
The stock launcher problem you have stated in this thread I have encountered as well, which is why I moved to adw. While the stock launcher appears to use acceleration in the app drawer, which i love too, the regular launcher home screens are basically unusable at this stage. I hope they fix it soon, but it likely wont be for a while.
This happened on my G1, my Nexus One and my Nexus S.
I finally wised up and installed LauncherPro (on my N1 and NS) and the problem doesn't happen anymore. In fact, LauncherPro is way faster than the default launcher.
The age-old (and largely pointless) debate between LP and ADW aside, the OP already said LP didn't work well for him.
Hit Menu > Manage Applications > Running > Menu > Show Cached Processes > Launcher > Stop > Home
Swiping will work again after that, until the next time the bug occurs. Quicker than rebooting though.

I have launcher pro and it works fine. I just really like the 3d drawer which didnt really work well in launcher pro.
I'll just deal for now that problem comes up like once a week so its not a huge deal
Wow that worked...thanks

Having them same issue. Google better fix this soon!!
Use selectormoldy's tip. It works

launcher pro vs ADW?
I want to get something new too but I don't want to customize my phone TOO much because of the steep learning curve and having to remember how things work.
Anyone know which of the two is most similar to the stock launcher?

Annoying bug on 2.3.3 (video)

Does this bug happen to anyone else? It has happened twice since I installed Gingerbread.
not me! never seen anything like that. Reflashed? full wipe? try different rom?
I couldn't replicate it
Also can't replicate it.
That has happened to me once. I just had to open an app then press the home button and everything worked fine again. Not sure how to replicate the glitch though.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
You can't replicate it, it's random. I just touched the screen to show that touchscreen is calibrated correctly.
I haven't seen that on my N1, but this also isn't the first time I have heard of this problem.
My theory is it is some app people have installed causing the flickering...
What if you factory reset the device? Does it still do it then?
Some people were reporting graphic glitches in the launcher after running Angry Bird Seasons. I haven't used that one yet, just regular Angry Birds.
Never tried on the stock launcher but the same thing happened to me 80% of the time with LauncherPro when i used 3D drawer (the same effect as on stock launcher)
Since i disabled it (3D drawer effect) everything work fine.
ive had this issue, it seems to be only with the stock OTA, im not sure how it happened but i can attest to this being a bug that happens to a n1 with full wipe and nothing on it.

same for me
Yes.
I used to disable all the animation for my N1.
after upgrade to 2.3.3, it happened twice.
I thought it is the issue of the animation, maybe.
So, I enable all the animation.
After that, I never see this problem.
I've never had this issue. Only thing close is when I go from the 3d app drawer to the home screen my analog clock widget kinda flickers a little, that's the only flickering I've seen on 2.3.3.
Note: this is also random, can't replicate it most of the time.
Yup this happened to me once. And it was after I closed one of the angry birds game. I think it's because closing apps no longer bring you back to the homescreen but to the app drawer. Android probably had some problem re-rendering the app drawer.
I had to go into settings menu and exit for the flickering to go away. I've gone back to CM7 because it's actually more stable than stock gingerbread after what I've seen so far.

Nope. I just opened the app drawer, launches AB Seasons, played a game, exited it, exits back to App drawer, everything is still working fine, no flickering...
Yes I get the same thing after launching angry birds seasons from the app drawer only and not if I launch from the home screen
Same for me 2. After reboot its ok.

I have a slightly different problem with the 3D app drawer in LPP. I can flick and it scrolls down, but when I grad to flick again, it jumps back up to the top. I can only get part way down the drawer, and I can't open an app. Non-3D works fine.
I have something similar. But not the same. When I close out of any app I just have my background only. Nothing else. After a minute UI shows back up. When I go into settings, I get a black screen until I I swipe my phone up and down.

I've had the Launcher icons not appearing straight away numerous times.

Launcher pro background???

i love this launcher its just im bored allready with black background app drawer...is there a way to change background??? Maybe to try edit the apk???

Subscribing. I wanted also to change the black bg..
I wanted that too. But i also encountered something strange about it. I recently installed a beautiful live wallpaper ported over from Sense. As it's not uncommon, the framerate of the homescreen in general, lowered. But what was the strange thing about it: the framerate of the app drawer (which has a completely black, still background) has also been decreased, which normally shouldn't happen, as the homescreen background vanishes when the app drawer is open (so normally the phone hasn't to calculate anything except for scrolling and opening/closing animation.)

I want it to...
Maybe it will be, when 1.0 comes out

[Q] Hide Apps in App Drawer?

Okay, so I know this has been asked before, I've been searching XDA and googling and have found some threads on the topic, but most of them are old and unresolved. So I'm reaching out to see if maybe there's a new development that I haven't been able to find.
Is there any known way to HIDE apps from the app drawer of a stock launcher? I know that Launcher Plus Pro and some other home replacements have this feature built in, but I'm using Virtuous Unity and am really happy with Sense 3.0 at the moment.
It seems like such a basic function, I can't believe there's a) no native feature to do this; and more surprisingly b) there's no 3rd party app that will do this?
I've found some apps that 'hide' your drawer apps (i.e. Hide It Pro) but this not only hides the app from the drawer, but makes it so you can only launch the hidden app from within the app that's hiding it (meaning you have to go into Hide It Pro to launch the hidden app).
I'm using wave launcher and swipepad for my most used apps and games, and would ideally like to remove these apps from the app drawer so they're not cluttering it up, but STILL BE ABLE TO LAUNCH THE APPS from the alternate launcher/shortcuts. With Hide It Pro I was able to remove the apps from the app drawer, but was then unable to launch that app from wave launcher for example.
My reasoning for wanting to do this is not confidentiality/privacy, but rather just to clean up my drawer/app system. Ideally I want my most used apps to be accessed via the secondary launchers (wave and swipepad) and just have the other, less-used apps in the app drawer. Is this possible?
at the moment, I dont think its possible...but I may be wrong. the best current solution would be to use a diff launcher, but yeah it sucks because all the sense widgets would disappear when trying to add them to homescreens (but the apps still work fine). keep us updated if you find a solution, I would like to know as well
Unfortunately I did not find a way to do it too. I am using Go Launcher EX. It can hide apps from the drawer, and still you can launch them from the home screen or elsewhere.
Thanks for the replies. Yeah from my research it doesn't really seem possible. It seems like it should be a pretty basic function but oh well. Thanks anyway guys.

Thanks for that, I came across that during my research. Seems cool and if it replaced the default app drawer I'd be all over it. But I don't want a homescreen icon as my app drawer. But thanks for the suggestion!!
