XDA II Roaming in the US

I have a strange problem!
I have an O2 XDA II, (unlocked), original ROM (1.03 USA), which I'm using with a UK Vodafone SIM. This works fine in the UK, however I am currently in the US trying to roam, without any luck. The automatic network selection does not connect to any network. Using manual network selection, I can select the T-mobile network, which it connects to, with good signal strength, but if I try to make or receive a call it does not work. It also loses the connection altogether after a few minutes. (This SIM works fine in the US in my Motorola tri-band phone). However, if I use my wife's US T-mobile SIM in the XDA II instead of mine, it works fine!
Any ideas?? All help would be gratefully appreciated!

phone networks must have agreements to let users roam

Vodafone certainly have a roming agreement with T-mobile in the US - I've been using this SIM in a triband phone in the US for years.

well are you talking about roaming of grps ?
because there are not as many agreements when it comes to grps as there is when it comes to std phone

3G sim works but no GPRS

I can make calls with a 3G sim as the 3G network switches to o2 when it is unable to recieve a 3G signal, but I cant get GPRS to work, can any one help? has any one got a 3G sim to fully work with their XDAII?

If im not mistaking, the data trafic is locked to a specifik 3G network?

if it were me i would ask 3 if they support grps
and if they did to turn it on

AFAIK, if you are a Three customer, all of their services are available in proper 'Three' coverage areas.
BUT, they make it clear on their site, that in none Three coverage areas, coverage is then provided by O2 under a 'roaming' agreement Three have with them.
They point out that in these conditions, voice calls and sms are still possible (as this uses standard GSM, or rather CSD).
BUT, that picture messaging etc will not be possible.
This seems to indicate quite clearly, this is because a GPRS arrangement with them is not possible, or established.
Thus, in your case, a Three SIM card will work in an XDA (but only the OLDER ones allegedly, Three supposedly got sick of too many people buying them for just the high amount of free inclusive minutes and sticking them in their own handsets and incurring high roaming costs for Three with O2, so locked the newer ones), but GPRS is not available when in a none 3G handset, or in truth, on a none Three network!

Im on a Three network in Australia and i am able to use the three sim in my XDA however, I am unable to send sms as it cant read the sms function from the carrier sim. I have change to an optus sim and sms works on that, so im sure its just three's sim that doesnt.
Anyone having a similar problem ? and have a fix ?

Hi, I have Austrian 3 sim in my XDA II and GPRS works, however (of course) I am using national roaming partner's (A1) network, because XDA does not have UMTS radio.
Everything works OK. data, sms, email....

[Q] How to Unlock my mobile network settings?

I recently bought a HTC Surround (AT&T), im from Costa Rica and we don't have AT&T as a carrier.
The phone works great with the GSM band but when i try to look for any 3G settings (using 850Mhz band) i cant find any options.
According to an article in the internet (i cant post any links yet) there should be an option called "Mobile Network" where i can turn the 3G on or off, so im guessing AT&T disabled the option (phone doesn't have any 3G sign on the sign bar at the top just the antenna bars).
Is there any way to Unlock the 3G options on this phone?

Help me out a little with your request. The place to turn on/off data is under cellular in the settings page. However, I haven't found "Mobile Network" on mine. However, I did download HTC Connection Setup which allowed the phone to search for various carriers and automatically set up the connections. That program is in Marketplace under HTC apps.
BTW, is your phone SIM unlocked?

1. HTC connection: yea i tried the app actually i have it installed on my phone but its giving me a message saying "Carrier doesnt exist in the data base" that i need to go a create apn (isnt that for phone internet). so i cant use the application, our carrier here is called I.C.E.
2.The band Costa Rica is using for 3G is the 850MHz. my SIM card is linked to a GSM account (1900 MHz) but the phone should be able to recognize the band tho, isnt that right?
3.how do i know if my phone is sim lock? i just placed my GSM SIM card inside and its working, do i need to try with a different card?
4. how does 3G works in this phone? is it configurable?

I'm pretty sure you are going to have to configure an APN for it to use 3G. As for band switching, I don't think it's possible with the current interface (at least on AT&T). Perhaps there are some registry entries that we will soon be able to access when some of the WP7 developers make headway, but right now, there is nothing of which I'm aware. If you can call on your network, the phone is already SIM unlocked, so no need to worry there.

I found some nice info about switching 3G or 2G etc... which it helps but i think it didnt work on mine.
Does anyone know how to set the HD7 (or surround) to 3G only?
Dialer> ##3282# Call > Settings > 3G only.
But in my case what i saw after that was that all the antenna bars were gone and then it went into no service then picked up signal again. After checking the settings after dialing again it was set to automatic again and if a switch it to 3G only it does the same thing again.
So im guessing it didnt work, ill try to talk to my carrier and see if we can create an APN to handle the 3G.
Is there a chance that the 3G feature is locked by AT&T?

Well apparently i got it fixed my phone seems to be working on 3G right now, i have the 3G sign on the top bar.
To make the story short.
I just configured my internet, added the roaming options and then tried again ##3282# only 3G and it worked now its showing 3G next to the antenna bars.

I have HTC surround. I did unlock AT&T phone. Now it works in Russia.But when I'm changing the languge from enlish to russian: can not save it. Please help me

i have a question and i need some help pease... i have and htc surround which was unlocked from att and now am using t-mobile with the phone however i do not get 3g working what can i do is there any fix for it?

Hi. If your SIM card is old (GSM) add APN: icecelular. If your SIM card is new (Kolbi), add APN: kolbi3g

that's easy no problem just download this app from the market is called connection setup I believe then just open it and follow instructions however I have a big question am in US and have an htc surround unlocked from att but I have t mobile and I cannot get 3g is there any setup configuration that has to be make in order for the 3g to work

No, you don't have to do any special configuration. I think TMobile bands for 3G are different frequencies from ATT, so sadly, I think you are never going to be able to have 3G connection on your Surround while you are on TMobile. Regards.

HSPA not working on Mobilicity

Just got a T-mobile mytouch slide and am on the Mobilicity network but can't get data connection to work. Does anyone know how I can get the data connection to work?

I have an HTC HD 7 and can't get the data connection to work on Mobilicity either. It should since it's a T-Mobile branded phone and they use the same frequency. Sometimes it actually does work for a day, then it stops for 2 days. Not sure what is going on, HTC is clueless and acts like it's not there issue. Mobilicity says it's not there issue. I know it's not an OS issue.
Not sure what to do, I'm giving up on Mobilicity soon and HTC phones.

might be a stupid question but have you two set up the proper APN settings for Mobilicity?

[Q] Omnia 7 AT&T issues USA

I just got my Omnia 7 in the mail today and called AT&T to get it activated. When they tried to look up the Omnia 7 in their system nothing came up. The system said it was an unknown manufacturer and it had know idea what it was. Has anyone encountered this or did the person I talked to not know what they were doing? They got the edge network to work but because it is not recognized as a smartphone they couldn't give me a 3G data plan. I thought I read on other threads on here that they have gotten the Omnia 7 to work on AT&T with 3G in the US. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just don't let them recognize it as a smartphone
get off the phone and log on to the online system
add the data plan for non-smartphone
then use it!
its unlimited and its cheaper

That is what I tried to do but for some reason the data won't work on my phone. I double checked my account online and the data is turned on but so far no luck on my phone. I can make calls and text just fine but the data doesn't want to work (EDGE nor 3G). The tech support person said that some cell towers were down but should be fixed by now. Any advice?

Did you use Samsung's netorking tool to select the right network (AT&T)?
There are also some manual APN settings.
Do you have an unbranded phone?

Since the omnia 7 only support one of the two 3g band that at&t use (1900), maybe your area use 850 instead of 1900. Where are you located?

I downloaded the network tool and it was set to telecom.de so I switched it to AT&T and that got my data working (just EDGE network). Where would I find what APN settings at? I found some APN settings:
apn: wap.cingular
username: [email protected]
password: CINGULAR1
were these the ones I was supposed to use? As for having an unbranded phone there are no stickers or logos on the back but on boot up it has the T-Mobile logo which would explain the telecom.de correct? Thanks for all your help.

I am in Kansas City, MO which is a fairly large market. I looked at some maps from 2004 of the different frequency bands and Kansas City had both 850 and 1900. I appreciate your help.

I've got (or better said had) a Omnia 7 from Deutsche Telekom too (they are cheap ). I live in Europe though, so I dont know much about AT&T and their 3G bands. The T-Mobile branding is actually nothing more than the boot logo, some default apps, the search page and default settings for things like MMS and networking.
You can get data working by using the networking tool, but I could not get MMS to work without flashing a retail rom with the right retail CSC for my country. Or well, you can get it to work when you hack on ADC in the registry...
