I own a Samsung Galaxy S ( I-9000 ) and it is very very slow due to the IO, and somehow my machine cannot root so cannot apply the lag fix....
I don't wanna to spend more time on it and I just wonder how Streak compare to Galaxy? Will Streak faster than Galaxy quite a lot??
Froyo just got onto Streak, and its super buttery now, super dooper buttery.
2.1 is perfectly acceptable as well though. Not sure comparatively with the GS, but I'm pretty sure GS is better at games, but in day to day the same (in terms of linpack, streak whips it though).
I'm pretty sure GS is better at games -> Agree.

Yeah, you can check it out on the android dev page or here http://android.modaco.com/content/dell-streak-streak-modaco-com/319728/click-here-to-read-more/
its badass
awsome, but might wait for a more stable release
Its pretty rock solid now, I think only rebel sim people would have problems with that build.

Having owned both these phones and dumped the Galaxy, I agree that the 3D chipset in the Galaxy makes it better at gaming and it also has a marginally better camera. It is also dogged by RFS (lagging), rubbish GPS and glacial development.
However, I read more than I play games (and Streak does gaming as well as anything like a Nexus One "super"phone), so the 5" screen is the "killer app" for me.
I'm running the Froyo beta on the Streak, and it's already stable enough for me to run as my day-to-day ROM - something I could not say of the Galaxy (JPK, etc, GPS is still borken AFAIK).
I'm sure CyangenMod will rock on the Galaxy - but I'm impatient, and I now have Froyo-going-on-CyanogenMod on my Dell Streak with a 5" screen.
The few games I do play on the Streak look great on the 5" screen. Oh, and Froyo on the Streak reportedly lifts the 30fps cap.
Edit: another reason I don't like the Samsung Galaxy S is because brand extension is already killing it and making it confusing. I too had the i9000, but now there are so many variations of "Galaxy S" I can't keep up and this contributes to development confusion (at least from the end-user perspective).

Thanks for ur view. I have galaxy s ,but i want bigger screen like streak.I have read and saw youtube videos ,people complaining about battery life ,loose back cover ,poor speaker ,unclear voice on other end, screen freeze or blackout.MOST POOR SUPPORT AND SERVICE FROM DELL ,SOME EVEN DOUBT EXISTENCE OF DELL SERVICE.
can you plz let me know your battery life,,application incompatibility,os stablity.
can i get atleast 2.1 official ???
also tell us problems you are facing with streak..
So check this out then. Please see the list here: Siemens sl45i, SonyEricsson P900, Nokia e61, Nokia e71, Nokia n97, Nokia n900, Dell Streak. All these cellphones were mainly used as extreme reader devices, and unlimited plan phones. Every time I upgraded my cellphone I was though, oh my, this one is so much better, than the previous one. With long awaited Streak in my hand I can tell you, it's truly incredible in the terms of everyday usage. Endless battery, infinite screen, no considerable flaws even in dell ui, which does not look too popular among lots of users.

Endless battery? Sorry, but that's just wrong. My Streak barely lasts a DAY on standby - and i have no widgets running either! Wifi and data connections turned off....
But, the Streak is an awesome device. The 5inch screen makes everything else look puny in comparison. =D Browsing is ok, texting is fine, and it works great as a media machine. My iPod hasn;t been touched since I got the Streak.
Oh, man, that sounds painful! Don't know if it's software or hardware related issue, but I'm telling you, my phone stays up all day with wifi, calls, market checks and casual browsing. And xdaing and engadgeting as well. And Jewelsing. And Fbreadering at night before I go to sleep. Maybe I got lucky with mine, but after Nokia N900 this one seems to have endless battery.
Try reflashing maybe or going up to Steve's 2.2 rom. Hopefully you're going to sort things out with you battery. I wish you all the best.

Yeah man, I literally upgraded to Steve's 2.2 after I posted, and the battery has been amazing ever since. With 2.1, if I left it on and went to work, then come back at lunch time to check on it, I'd be lucky if I had 60% left (in 4 hours) and it hasn't done ANYTHING. With 2.2, it was 95% after I left it for 6 hours (wifi off, date off, sync off).
So I'm quite pleased, and will be blaming 2.1 for my battery woes =]
I get that but no need to turn off anything

I would pick the tab: bigger screen, more updated OS. Samsung is more responsive in updating their devices while Dell is slow and doesn't care...
I played with the Dell and hated it. Landscape only home scren and the icons looked tiny to me.

Not to generalize, but if it's anything like dell computers, I'd stay away. Too many bad experiences with their hardware.
I've never used the streak though so I'm biased to my tab.

The 5" is really not much bigger than the normal 4" or 4.3". You hardly feel the screen size difference.
The 7", although in words/numbers dont seem much, in real life you will IMMEDIATELY see the screen real estate difference.

The biggest issue is that the additional screen real estate of the Streak didn't come with a corresponding resolution increase, just a change to the effective dpi.
Personally, I think the Streak is too large for a phone, and too small for a tablet. YMMV of course.
Regards,
Dave
Streak feels cheap, isn't a tablet. Tab feels good but isn't a phone unless you are one of the very few people out there that can pull off wearing bt ears without looking a test.
Streak surprised me when I first played with one. It looks decent and if it had come out on TMobile, I think I'd be using it now. But Dell's lack of Tmobile, and dragging it's feet for 2.2 put me off. Now the Tab's out, not an issue.
Didn't help people's perceptions of it when it kept being compared to the iPad as a tablet lite, and it wasn't, it was a decent sized phone. Nothing wrong with that, just not what the media tried to hype it up to be.
Battery life is above average apparently, bluetooth support was also good, supporting keyboards as standard when other phones were needing to be rooted/flashed to enable.
As it is now, with 2.2, it looks decent. If it had come out with 2.2, 3 months earlier than it did, it'd have done far, far better.
I had a Dell Streak and last week I sold it and I bought a Galaxy Tab.
Dell Streak was interesting device. All were impressed by them at first sight.
I think the Galaxy Tab is better as tablet device but as phone is streak better.
I was highly impressed by Streak's 5" Inch and good battery life. However lack of development on software side is forcing me to think otherwise. I plan to buy from ebay, and my observation is I9000 is the same price as Streak. Spec wise I9000 is better than Streak apart from battery life and screen size. HD2 is cheaper, has the same proc as Streak and has a slightly larger screen than Galaxy S. HD2 and Galaxy S both have very good user base and lots of custom builds are being developed.
Am I wrong to think that it would be foolish to buy a Streak now and instead should go for HD2/Galaxy S?
Your feedback is kindly appreciated.
Forget the Streak (or any other Dell device). Dell just isn't up to the task.
Aside from the glacially-slow development times, the hardware just isn't 2011-quality.
If you can wait a bit, I would wait. If you cannot, get a Galaxy.
(Too bad HTC doesn't make a larger phone like the Streak.)
It's very much a question about what you need in a phone..
The streaks are unique in using a 5 inch lcd. you can really not get the experience in any other phone.
The very special use/customization of android is also unique. I love it because the super good readability and space for text input.
The HD2 is running windows mobile os, which is ultra customizable, but requires you to be willing to use time to make it work as you want.
Galaxy S phones are very good in their own way. Good implementation of android, and easy to operate. Good screen as they use s-amoled technology, very rich colors (some say it is too rich, so it becomes unnatural) but at only 4 inches, it's a bit crowded when you input text..
My thoughts only...
EDIT: maybe I should include the EVO 4G/desire HD to the mix? Good quality hardware, very innovative, and 4,3 inches.. Very good alternative indeed.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
If I could go back, I would not get Streak simply because it is made by Dell. Dell doesn't have experience in making phone, and unlike Apple, they are never been good in software either.
Thanks for input guys.
It's a shame that Dell failed to provide support for their first venture into android. Wonder why they are releasing new handsets in this competitive market.
I am looking for a balance between value for money and spec. Galaxy is good spec wise but ~£100 more than HD2. Pros- Better proc, better battery life and possibly better custom build support in the future. It's negative points would be- smaller screen size (better qual though) and poor build quality.
HD2 is relatively cheap now compared to it's spec due it based on winmo. However there are loads of froyo builds available now. Pros of HD2- 4.3" screen and price.
Desire HD is very expensive atm.
I am inclined towards HTC HD2 now.
I had the galaxy s for 4 months. Loved it at first then started finding all the screw ups samsung made. Flashed every custom rom i could find. Seemed like i was constantly trying to fix something that was borked. Love the streak. Not NEARLY as many problems as plague the galaxy s phones. Just read their forums. Gps problem this......lag problem that.......etc etc. All true. Big headache.
Go for the Streak, with some simple tweaking it rocks. No other phone even comes close.
Great to hear streak has good potentials cause I just ordered mine at usd$154 on starhub 2 year contract.

Oh dear! Yesterday it was 3-0 against Streak. Two points for Streak today and now the margin is 3-2 against Streak!
From what I understand, none of them is perfect, but the question is which one is more productive?
Galaxy S does seem to have a lot of bugs which again pushes me to opt for HD2. Mind you my original choice was Streak, and the reason I am reconsidering my decision is lack of development on software.
Streak 1 man show (DJ Steve as a Dev) do we need more NOOo, I don't want to have 150 different thread with roms, and an extra 300 threads of people crying about stuff not working, LAGFIX what lagfix we dont even have lag, I'm still running Steve's 1.1.1. I have and will NEVER run Official anything on my Streak, I have a friend with an X10, it has some issues, for example no stable froyo no multi touch, not enough ram, colrs are not displayed correctly, Galaxy S, you need Lagfix WTF is dat? will never know, GPS fix... and so. I have zero issues besides my faulty internal memory and perhaps the most annoying i can find on my streak is that the compass is a little bit off by 3 degrees or so. But I love this one man show everything runs smoothly I don't get crazy force close, shut downs, reboots, I don't need to load roms using a PC I just copy update.zip to an SD bam ROM flashing on the road. can you that with Samsung? Sony ? no I haven't mentioned HTC because I havent played with one yet but I'll drop it here too if I use one.
to add more HD2 someone metioned WinMo 6.5 that can run Froyo with no issues and I bet thtat's what the OP will be doing
At the end you pick what you think is best for you, personal choice Streak wins all the way, I'm not a person who is always talking on the phone I browse and text more than what I talk hence my inclination towards the streak.
and which one is more productive? good question some say more "royalty space" or screen area makes you more productive hence dual monitors @ offices and stuff. So there you go that feeds my answer so go Streak!!!
Samsung releases devices then moves on. Be careful believing they'll roll out upgrade after upgrade.
People can complain about Dell's decision to put 1.6 on the device, but they've promised 2.2 by end of year all along.
I want froyo... but 1.6 on the Streak is still very solid.
To me the question when buying the Streak is exclusively about form factor. If you want a big pocketable device... the Streak is great.

Agree with all of the above, +1 for the Dell Streak!
100% Streak
I've had the streak since day 1 that it was sold in the US, and I've done all the ROM's that DJ_Steve has released (Man, that guy is crazy amazing) I used to be the guy who got a new phone every month, trying to find something even better. And now, I've had the streak for a while. Its just so....big. There's nothing like pulling out your phone and watching a movie on the go on a big screen like this. There's no way I can go back to a smaller phone. And for the people complaining about performance, sure, I can see that if you remained on the stock 1.6 (even then, it wasn't so bad) But with the mods and RoM's that are coming out rather regularly, this phone blows everything out of the water by a long shot. Highly recommend
for Dell Streak owners for 2 months +
How is the battery life in Android 1.6 and Android 2.2 ( froyo ) for a multi-tasking usage ( GPS , browsing through 3G , browsing through Wi-Fi , listening to music , watching videos or movies )
You feedback are highly appreciated

My HTC HD2 died from touchscreen death...so its fresh in my head.
To me this streak i got to replace it is head and shoulders over the HTC HD2.
yes its bigger but its proportional to an HD2 so your not walking around with a giant square screen or nothing. the Streak fits nicely in your hand.
i could not be happier with this streak..
I came from a HD2 and I loved the phone, after my contract ended, I did consider just sticking with it cos I couldn't think of a phone that was better than it and did not want to go backwards with screen size, until I randomly walked into an O2 store and saw this monster and had no idea what it was, had a play around and I liked it, youtube more of it when I got home and thought I really want it.....more than anything it was just the sheer size that sold it to me....never used android before and I've only heard good things about it....so I thought what the hell, and I have to say....not been disappointed at all.
I've been on 1.6 since I got it in July and I've been happy with it, but just recently, after installing the official 2.2, it changed everything and I can't believe how much quicker it is, especially after some extra tweeks. The phone still has some problems but not enough for me to hate it and if you look around, I'm sure you'll find quite a few threads of people complaining about his that and the other with some people truely hating the phone. But if your a patient person who doesn't let the little things annoy you too much then the Streak will be great to use.
But if you want a solid phone, then you won't go wrong with the HD2, I would have loved to try Froyo on that bad boy. HTC did a really good job of stuffing the phone with a great UI and lots of little features. When showing the phone of to my mates, I could sell it to them with this feature and that feature, but now with my Streak...I can't really think of anything to try and show them bar showing them how awesome the massive screen is. It's almost like HTC made the HD2 awesome for your where as you have to make the Dell awesome for yourself if you know what I mean (having to install updated firmware, fill you phone with lots of apps, choosing your own UI etc).
As for the Galaxy S, I really didn't like the feel of the phone itself, fair enough it has Froyo with a good UI and lots of little features, but the phone felt soooo cheap and tacky I didn't think much of it, where as the Dell streak feels nice to hold (it's not perfect, bit of flex, slightly loose creeking panels) and the HD2 was even better and felt really solid (though didn't like the curved back with the sharp camera pointing out).
Sorry for the long post but thought it would help with the more detailed opinion. Let us know what you decide.

No doubt, Sense is good, I like it a lot. Recommended the HD2 to a friend of mine and he is very happy with it, out of the box. The basic software on the Streak is quite bland, but now that I have customized my setup it looks and works great, too. Straight stock Android is really ugly, however, just like WinMo you can turn it into whatever you want. You can get Sense on Android, too and it has all the bells and whistles as on WinMo --- just not on this 5" monster.
I have had my Streak since day one of uk release..it's the best phone I've ever had and to be honest Its the only phone that I haven't thought about upgrading / selling on ebay after 6months.
I used to use my laptop for everything now I rarely use my laptop for anything as it's always just pull out the streak and away I go.
And ever since we got Froyo on it (thanks DJ Steve) it's just amazing.. as I said used to use Laptop for BBC Iplayer, now just watch it on the streak!
Yes I agree People will buy what they need but everyone should at least consider the streak... especially if there trying to cutdown the carry weight of day to day gadgets!
Agreed, I'm lost for ideas fir what to buy myself for christmas this year. Last year I ordered an N900 but it kept getting delayed so I bought the milestone. And finally THE STREAK arrived!

I'm looking into purchasing a dell streak 5 for myself. To be honest the size is both compelling and making me a little iffy. I feel as if being so big would make the experience amazing, but at the same time it would make it annoying or even irritating in certain instances. What are your experiences positive/negative with streak (mostly related to the size) and what type of person do you think this phone is best for? (Business/Student/Anyone?)

I love the big screen, but it is not really jeans-pocketable. I love it ... I don't think I would go for a phone a screen smaller than 4" anymore.
I suggest you go somewhere they have a Streak on display and see for yourself.

As an outdoor enthusiast I take my streak through all sorts of situations. Skiing, mountain biking, hiking, etc and have had no problems. I keep it in my backpack when skiing and biking because it can get in the way of leg movement and I dont want to smash it in a crash...but it is great to have on the weekends, I now dont have to pack my laptop to get work done on the weekends. Just take the streak and a fold up bluetooth keyboard and ive got all the processing power I need to be efficient. but in normal everyday situations I have not had any moment when i've felt the size of the streak was a hindrance. I dont make a lot of voice calls but if I did I would definitely get a headset because the streak can make your arm tired after about 20 minutes on the phone.
If you want the'n phone/tablet experience go with the Streak. Its the best phone ive owned. Captivates are also nice.
Delete sorry misread first post
I have similar problem to decide. Currently I'm using Samsung GT-I9000 which is very nice and of course a lot smaller then Streak.
There are few things that are holding me back:
- quality of TFT screen
- speed of built in GPU for casual gaming
- size
- camera quality
I've read a lot of reviews and opinions and some say that the screen is good, some say it's very bad... SAMOLED is great and I don't expect that from Streak but honestly I don't know what to expect? Which quality - like Desire, Wildfire, better, worse, same?
GPU is other issue - is there anyone who play games on their Streak? Is there any performance issue?
The camera - it looks like it's not like on my Samsung just like the 720p recording. Can someone share some info about this?
Thanks
The screen looks fine, of course it could be better, might be a reason to wait for a newer. 4.5" - 5" phone with a dual core, and better gpu.
The camera after my update to newest streakdroid ( my opinion) works flawlessly.
I play psx4droid, and gunbros, dungeon defenders and the latter can be a little jittery at times, usually it plays great.

I love it the screen is what I wanted it for the phones works without any problems for me, games are amazing to, I use fpse mostly and apart from the recent overlay pad issue in landscape mode, which has been fixed its amazing for games. I also put it in all my trousers pockets including my skinny jeans, and I'm talkihfhvthe really skin tight ones here. Cant say as I've experienced and problems at all with the one.

My better half has a captivate and I have an iPhone 4... I've had serious phone envy for a while.... I had an upgrade with AT&T to use so I started poking around and found this on amazon wireless:
http://wireless.amazon.com/dp/B003XVYBU8
For $.01 you really can't go wrong!
Now my lady can have phone envy for a change!! LOL
P.S. anyone want an iPhone? HAHAHAHAHA
If it was just $.01 I would already buy it but on this side of the planet it's just 500 EUR or ~$700 which is not that cheap.
Hi, myself being streak owner and having a couple of friends who use samsung captative / galaxy S I can tell you:
- Samsung SAMOLED is way better then dell streaks screen (quality wise).
- Samsung is more fragile.
- Streak is HUGE compared to Samsung's.
- Everyone thinks samsung is an iphone.
- Samsung is snappier then streak. (I'm actually disapointed with Streak's performance either in the GUI / live wallpapers and games).
- Streak's battery life (froyo 2.2.2) is better then Samsung's EVEN with a larger screen.
- GPS on the streak has a better experience.
- Sound in the galaxy is better.
- Video calls using ooVoo in the samsung is better.
Conclusion: Streak has better building quality and a bigger screen. Samsung has the best hardware.
mobility wise, I don't have any problems with its size. Everyone is impressed with streak when you pull it of your pocket. "OMG, it's HUGE! What brand is that? is that an ipad?" You get used to that really fast.
For what is worth I really love the 5" and build quality of streak but I feel that Streak could be better in many ways.
You should also consider the PDMI proprietary connector of Streak and the expensive official accessories.
I've been using my Streak for about a month now. I do like it. I came the other way, I was using a Samsung Galaxy Tab as my phone. I do miss the 7" screen, but it was a real pain to put in the pocket. The only other downside was having to have a Bluetooth headset with me at all times. I didn't really like that idea.
The PDMI connector on the Streak is the only thing I really don't like, but for ~$10 CDN I picked up two 1' cords to keep at work and in the car.
Ditch the Captivate though. It sucks. I'm still trying to get rid of mine.

I agree....
well, I would like to know if its, fast (not laggy)
can it run 2.3.3 if rooted?
hows the data speeds, call quality..
have you found yourself wanting a smaller screen (4.3/4.5)
does dell stand behind the phone? customer service!
is the screen nice, bright, vibrant. Can you read a book on it, with out wishing you just had the book! lol how would it stack up against the nook color in this department?
I have an HTC inspire, is it worht the swap at $350 for a new streak?
well, I would like to know if its, fast (not laggy)
Yes, it is fast and I do not think it to be laggy at all
can it run 2.3.3 if rooted?
It has not been release for the Streak as of yet.
hows the data speeds, call quality..
Data seems to be good for me. Call quality is very good.
have you found yourself wanting a smaller screen (4.3/4.5)
I got the device because of the screen and I have been loving it ever since.
does dell stand behind the phone? customer service!
No, not really.
is the screen nice, bright, vibrant. Can you read a book on it, with out wishing you just had the book! lol how would it stack up against the nook color in this department?
Yes, you can read a book, but I think you will have the same issues folks have with the IPAD, it is not so good in the outdoor setting for read, indoor would be just fine.
I have an HTC inspire, is it worht the swap at $350 for a new streak?
I cannot speak to this as I have never had an HTC inspire.
Mine's fast. Love it with Dell's 2.2.2 or Streakdroid 1.9. Comes down to personal taste.
2.3? No. Not yet at least. ;-)
Data/wifi are very good for me. Call quality is better than any of my previous phones. No one complains that they can't hear me. I use a Jawbone Icon most of the time.
Smaller screen? Heck no! I got this thing cause it's huge. I have a hard time imagining people working on smaller screens now. I love having 5" of real estate. Totally worth it.
I've only had one instance with Dell Mobility and they were excellent. The screen went south about 2 months after I got it so I called them. They had a replacement shipped out after a 20 minute phone call.
Dunno about books and the HTC. I use my B&W for reading and have never had an HTC. I hear awesome things about HTC though. Seems the main reason to change devices would be for screen size.
Any one know if dell will make a dell streak V2?
Also do they both have the same CPU 1Ghz? or is the inspire a newer version?
also, I would think the screen would be week, as in easy to break... I'm I wrong?
There is a rumor of another 5" model in the works, it is known as OPUS. There is a timeline about this over at streaksmart, you can find it on the forum if you want to hunt for it. You may want to checkout streaksmart.com anyhow.
I found the link: CLICK ME
Well, the screen is not a stong point, I have had to replace it but I must say it is holding up well now. You should treat it with respect if you know what I mean.
there are no gingerbread roms for the phone, infact theres barely any roms as we have 1 rom developer. and i feel because of that we dont get the best out of the phone. besides the tether disable in the att rom, theres not any carrier crippling of the phone. the stage launcher and widgets in 2.2.2 are really nice. the screen size is very nice to have, watching movies is a great experience, especially if you turn the brightness up. however its a standard lcd and rather low def for the size so i wouldnt recommend reading a book on it. the data experience has been the best ive ever seen on a phone. it seems the speeds are much higher than on other att phones. call quality is just ok. speakers can be dim or squeelchy. the phone app is crashy and its landscape locked (like the lock screen) so if you change lcd density is all off. the sound quality for some reason is terrible. i wouldnt suggest you plug in headphones and listen to music on it. i think dell considers this thing a failure. they dont advertise it and they keep selling it for less and less like its not worth its own components. apparently they are allergic to money. i bought the phone for its screen size. i wanted something that i wouldnt need a both a tablet and a phone. but as the days move on i find myself wanting both. i think ill end up going for a 4-4.5" phone to replace this and maybe a tablet in the future. i need atleast a slightly large phone if im not going to have a physical keyboard if i want to type. im glad i bought the phone. it was a good first android phone. the hardware is dating and im think im about ready for a new one.
well, I would like to know if its, fast (not laggy)
Doesn't lag much at all on rooted stock 351
can it run 2.3.3 if rooted?
no, at least not yet
hows the data speeds, call quality..
The data speed is good. Call quality is unbelievably good (probably the best of any smart phone i've used)
have you found yourself wanting a smaller screen (4.3/4.5)
no, but 4.5 wouldn't be bad, the reason I bought the phone was the size of the on-screen keyboard (its getting harder to find good physical keyboards on Android phones)
does dell stand behind the phone? customer service!
Yes/no, It all depends on where you buy the phone. If you buy it from them they will try as hard as they can to make you happy. I have the unlocked version straight from the Dell website and I'm on my third streak and both times I called in with a device problem they tried to fix it and when they couldn't they sent me a brand new one no questions asked. I've heard that if you bought it from Best Buy, Dell may not be as helpful.
is the screen nice, bright, vibrant. Can you read a book on it, with out wishing you just had the book! lol how would it stack up against the nook color in this department?
Yes and it does pretty well outside, unfortunately I've never used a nook color outdoors so I wouldn't know how the Streak compares
I have an HTC inspire, is it worth the swap at $350 for a new streak?
The Inspire is a nice phone, but I have no Idea what roms are available for it so I couldn't tell you.
Other Thoughts
I love my Streak and I'm hoping the second version of it will come out as planned. Also the Streak Community here on XDA is great and can help solve any issues you have with The Streak.
What don't you like about the Inspire?
Also the Screen on the Streak can seem fragile but that is because of its large surface area, I recommend an Otter Box (the commuter) It protects the device and keeps pressure off the screen while my streak is in my pocket.
hows the speaker on the streak? I dont talk much on the phone when I do, I use the speaker.. I also want to be able to hear the ringer
I love my inspire truthe be told, but if I can get something close but with w 5" screen, why not?
This really depends on the build. Older builds (pre 31x iirc) are really loud on speakerphone. After, it seems they quieted it down. When you flash 1.9.0 there's an option to enable an audio boost option that fixes it I believe.
is the screen really fragile... thats like the number one thing I keep reading..

Spend a few bucks and put it in an Otterbox Defender. I took a fall off my roof that put me in the hospital and I landed on my Streak. Not a scratch on it and it kept on ticking like nothing happened. Use some common sense (like NOT putting it in your back pocket and sitting down on it) and the screen will be fine.
Phone is rocket fast and awesome in every way except for battery life. I have JuiceDefender and Advanced Task Killer on mine and I still am lucky to get 12-hours of battery life...
Streak 7: crap.
Don't know about the 5 but the 7 is a total piece of garbage. The screen has serious viewing angle problems, to the point that using it in portrait mode is very unpleasant. And 800x480 is insufficient on a 7" screen.
Battery life is unacceptably bad: you won't get 48 hours of stand-by on a full battery, and that's in the "aggressive power savings" mode!
It's heavy, and the screen is fragile. Mine had problems that lasted about a day and went away as mysteriously as they arrived, but I won't be surprised if they come back and stay permanently.
I
As much as I like the Streak but I am getting a little tired of the unresponsive screen once in a while it freezes up and I can't unlock it,music through the 3.5mm audiojack is pretty low and the camera is another drawback.I don't even wanna call Dell anymore since their replacement devices come with the same issue.
I started to save money to buy something new in the next few months.
Hows the GPS?
Also can the CPU be overclocked to 1.2 or 1.3?
I think the OTTER box would be great
a big battery and a car charger will take care of the battery
Volume+ or DSP will help the volume and
now the last thing that I'm worried about is the GPS and CPU, being gen 1, I would think it lags some times, since my inspire does get a little slow now and then, and the inspire had more RAM.
I'm have a great phone, but would not mind having that 5" screen
I know there is talk of other 5 inch phones but I simply do not see any...
Nothing huh?
Yeah, setcpu can overclock it to 1.2 or so. otterbox defender if you want a beltclip, commuter if you don't.
Posted with StreakZilla, using XDA App.
I'm thinking of purchasing a Streak as well.
I'm curious, how many of you have had to get a replacement device from Dell? What were the reasons for this? Should I expect the same?
Thanks for the help.
The GPS on the Streak is very good, Not sure why people complain about the battery life as I have no problem with it, also I recommend the Otterbox Commuter. The screen is not as fragile as It's made out to be, also the unresponsiveness that people have is usually fixed by recalibrating the screen after installing a new Rom(I have the streak in my pocket all day and never have the problem). Finally the Streak seems to be a difficult device to consistently manufacture properly, so you may have to get a replacement due to something being defective, but in my opinion it is worth it because it is a great phone.
the only real problem I see now, is the fact that DELL makes the phone... lol I HATE talking to people from india!! If DELL were to just change that, they could be a great company again....
I'll get that 4800mah battery if I keep the phone... I just wish we had more devolpment.... So how much "better is the CPU in the HTC inspire than the streak?" is just just better on battery? I know that it can be OC to 1.8GHZ but since you cant add a big battery, thats just dumb...
Dell's Mobility(Cell phone) Support isn't in India. Also the processor in the Inspire should be more efficient due to its smaller architecture and should handle graphics better as it has a better GPU (the Adreno 205 vs. the 200). As for real world performance differences I have no idea. Personally I've never had an issue with processor power on my Streak, also I've found on mobile devices that it is the amount of free Ram that matters more than processing power.
