Battery Power Drops from 100% to 90% in about 3 mins?

Has anyone else seen this? From 100 to 90% the power just drops almost instantaneously but after 90% its normal.

Already been brought up, a lot.
Apparently when your phone charges up it stops once it reaches ~100% and begins discharging, even though it is still on the charger. People will turn their phone off after a full charge and charge for an additional 20min to an hour before they get another green LED. People have reported much longer battery life when doing this, but it is a pain in the ass.

Ahh interesting. I thought I was running into an old winmo rom flashing issue where if you flashed under 50% battery life you could never charge the device above that point.

Yea it sucks but it works... I just ordered an external battery charger since I have 2 batteries now so I don't have to do this anymore

Hmm i tried and it acted the same way.

Apparently the HTC models act like older phones did back in the day. What HTC needs to do is put something on the phone face itself when new that says "CHARGE FOR 4 HOURS BEFORE INITIAL POWER ON FOR MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE."
Once you do this once you dont have to keep doing it. I also powered on my phone the minute I got it and activated it without charging it first and I was seeing this issue until I did a power off charge. The phone runs from 6am to 11pm without an additional charge cycle in the day and that is a huge improvement for me. I was charging the phone twice to three times daily.

Need help calibrating the battery

I'm looking to calibrate my battery on my Epic (epic experience froyo.) I am not sure how to do it and I cant seem to find a thread. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Charge your phone to 100%.
Boot into Clockwork recovery.
Advanced>Clear/Wipe Battery Stats
Boot up and start using your phone. Use it until it dies.
Charge back up to 100%, not interrupting the charging.
Your battery is calibrated.

my battery charges to 97% and the blue led comes on. is that 100% but displays 97?

odd...now it charged to 100...lol im so confused

Is there a fast way to drain it to zero?
Or does draining it faster than average use cause calibration to be off?

muyoso is right - I do that 2-3 times to define the trough and crest (valley and peak) of battery life.
It isn't good for the battery health to drain it past the point it first shuts off (so don't turn it back on until its powered externally). It also isn't good for battery health to overcharge (er, "bump" charge it repeatedly to full).
So when you get to 100% (or when it tells you its "full" - may appear as 97 or 98 - just follow the pop-up) its ready to be unleashed.
Of course, I didn't define the battery management software for the phone so I don't know for sure. But this seems to be the common wisdom contained in the threads here. Good luck.

I have found that some kernels charge to 100 and then let it drain to 96% or so before recharging to 100%. They repeat this over and over until you unplug it, so when you unplug it, its the luck of the draw as to what percentage you are at. Some other kernels charge to 100 and keep it there until you unplug it.

There should be an article in the wiki, or at least a guide for the begginers. Lol at least I havn't bricked my phone yet.

I've had this same problem even with Calibration. Sometimes I get 100, sometimes I dont. With the external dock charger, it never tells me less than 100 though on my extra batteries, but my phone is luck of draw like said before.. I've calibrated twice, and I dont have the patience to do it anymore.

I noticed that after unplugging my phone when it said it was fully charged the battery immediatley dropped to 97%. I found a thread in the Vibrant forum with people talking about their Vibrants doing the exact same thing. No one seemed to know what was causing it. Is anyone else seeing this with their phone? Should I be concerned?

it's normal on a Samsung phone. There is no fix. Sorry for the bad news.

Yep. From my experience I've discovered the following:
1. Keep it on charger for a extra 1 or 2 hour.
2. Charge it while off.
And you won't see that drop again. If you do one of those things.

It's normal on every mobile phone.

It is normal, it was designed to do that to prevent your battery from burning out sooner thus giving you shorter battery life in the long run.
If you want to truly charge to 100 percent, you bump it. Meaning when it says fully charged(its lying to you), pull out the usb charger, then plug it back in. When it says 100 percent again, pull out the charger, put it right back in, let it charge a few mins more. Keep doing this till you get bored. Doing this bumping technique will truly charge it to 100 percent, and it won't fall so quickly, but it burns your battery supposedly in the long run.
There was an article about it. Google bump charging battery, or something like that.

Yup -- once the battery reaches full capacity the charger stops (to avoid undue wear on the battery). The battery will discharge down to ~90% before the charger kicks in again.
On Nexus One we were able to run off of wall power once the battery was charged, significantly reducing the speed at which the battery discharged once full, and improving the chances of it being 99-100% when you took it off the charger. Nexus S has a different charge circuit configuration which does not allow it to operate in this mode.

If it's a Samsung phone, it's the norm to blame Samsung. Not Google and Samsung, just Samsung. I know, it doesn't make any sense to me either.

I have found the same result on my Vibrant. Also my Nexus S is doing the same thiing.

I'm very impressed with the battery life on the Nexus S, personally!

Do we know what fuel gauge chip is in the nexus s battery, and what driver its using? Check my sig to see what we did to the nexus one battery chip and driver...

Anyone else have a funky "Battery Use" screen?
Check out the attached image. What is up with the "Battery Use" screen? Anyone elses like that? It isn't my phone, because the problem is only at the "Battery Use" screen.

battery wont charge to 100%
I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem charging their Nexus S to 100%. I have recalibrated it by draining it then charging it while its off for about 8 hours.
Ever since I first got it would only go to 97%. I also tried to delete the batterystats.bin file and that's not working either.
If I bring it back to Best Buy should I relock the bootloader and get a new one or will they replace just the battery for me?

Battery Charging Issues from AC adapter

Hello,
I noticed some crazy things happening to my N4 during charging yesterday.
It was at about 20% and I had a few hours to charge it before going out for the night. I charged it to about 50% and then stepped out of the house.
After I came home at night, I plugged it in like I do before I go to bed. I woke up after 5-6 hours to use the bathroom and checked my phone. It was stuck at 76% charging. I knew something was wrong because it shouldn't of taken 5-6 hours to get to 76%. I opened my battery settings and noticed something very weird happening.
The indicator was saying "76% Charging" and then "76% Not Charging" and it was alternating between the 2 really fast. It was as if I was taking the plug out of the wall and putting it back in REALLY fast. I checked the outlet and it was fine, it was plugged in just fine (I've been using the same outlet fine for a week)
I restarted the phone and suddenly the battery jumped to 86%. WTF?
I kept it charging and went back to sleep. Woke up few hours later and it got stuck at 76% again! And it sat there bouncing back and forth like before.
I restarted the phone a FINAL time and then finally it fully charged to 100%.
WTF is going on?

Seems like your battery indicator might have been messing up, reboots fix this

Yeah sounds like it but really odd how it got stuck at 76%.
When it hit 86% it just stayed consistently charging but the % wasn't increasing. Looking at the battery graph from last night it seemed to be at 86% for at least a few hours.

I would leave it charging for such a period that it would be at 100% if it was at all normal.
Then reset battery stats, let it fully discharge through use, recharge, and see how it goes.

[Q] Major Battery Problems with Nexus 4 - Help Please

Backstory: I've had my Nexus 4 since December 2012. I lived in San Francisco using T-Mobile through August 2013, and I've just moved to Sydney. I got a new sim through Vodafone here, and everything went well. Though my battery did drain a bit faster than usual, I employed Greenify and pretty much solved my problems. Fast forward to this weekend, I used my phone heavily all day and turned it off once it hit 2%. After getting back home for the night, I used it heavily while charging and everything battery/power wise and otherwise was behaving as expected. I went to bed with my phone draining and at roughly ~40% (making a guess) and not on the charger. I woke up at ~3AM, put the phone on the charger, and when i woke up at 6AM, it had only charged to 67%. This was my first sign something was wrong as I usually get a full charge in less than 3hrs. Over the course of the day, I monitored my phone and notice that whether on or off it charges extremely slowly as in 6+ hours still doesn't get to 100%. Additionally, using the phone while it's on the charger is net negative on the battery's charge as in it decreases albeit very slowly while using it on the charger.
I had my phone plugged in last night, and took it off the charger at 2AM at 100%. When I woke up at 6:15AM, I took the following screenshots (attached).
You can see that over 4h 15m off the charger and with no use the phone drained 44% with 37% coming from phone idle, 23% from cell standby, and 15% from wi-fi. This seems ridiculous to me. Can anyone help? What kind of troubleshooting can I do? It feels to me like this is hardware related as I get the problems whether the phone is on or off, but I'm not sure. I'm currently rooted and using AOKP Milestone 2. Here's a screenshot from about phone (attached).
Thanks for any help in advance! I'm really hoping to be able to fix this with software changes as I'd hate to have to buy a new phone with the Nexus 5 right around the corner.

Is anything wrong with your battery? If it is in very bad shape, you should probably get a new battery.

I don't know that even excessive wake-locks would cause a phone to charge that slowly, especially a Nexus 4.
Was it on the dedicated wall charger? Have you tried multiple chargers? Multiple wall sockets?

What's the battery replacement like for the N4? Can't be an easy job that's for sure.

Try factory reset if not battery might be taking a dump

I've used multiple chargers, usb cords, from computer, dedicated wall charger, etc. and it behaves no differently. How can I test to see if my battery is in bad shape or not? Also, how would you suggest replacing the battery?

Even though the battery stats isn;t showing the phone as awake, I wonder if there is an errant app causing a wakelock. I would definitely check with better battery stats to see if anything is preventing your phone form sleeping when not in use.

The problem is that it's not only discharging quickly while on but charging slowly while off.

Agree, that doesn't sound normal. Still I would check before buying a new battery.

Attached is what I see. Everything looks normal to me? Not sure what I should be expecting though.

When in doubt, frag out.. I mean BBS out..
Use betterbattery stats and it gives a lot more info and may help you pinpoint the issue..

94.64 degree fahrenheit for the battery. Is that high?
edit: Mine says 95 degrees

It seemed that google play services was sucking most of the juice, but this isn't always the case. I decided I was just going to go with flashing a new ROM, but even with USB debugging on and Connect as Media Device checked off in USB Computer Connection, I can't get my computer to recognize my phone via USB. I've tried this with two different cords, multiple ports on my computer, and even with a friend's computer. I'm starting to think my phone has just completely **** itself. Any advice?

your body temperature averages 98.6F. keeping your phone off and in a tight pocket on a warm day could raise the temperature to 95F. so, is 95F high?

Got exactly the same problem, already replaced the battery, but that wasn't the problem. Can t RMA because I'm not on the country Where it has been bought, so I'm really with my hands tied in here.
I already thought it could be the Qualcomm Power manager (IIRC) that is damaged, but that chip is soldered onto the mainboard..

Edit/Update: Phone completely **** out today, won't turn on, and only displays a solid red LED light for ~60 seconds after plugging into a wall charger. Good thing it's in warranty I guess.

ohhhh holy crap...
Dont worry. just charge your mobile for atleast 8 hrs and then switch it on.
