How can I use a custom phone app instead of default WM6 phone app?

Hi,
I am working on a custom phone dialer app. Here is what we expect:
When opening the contacts or the call history and clicking one call phone number, the default WM6 phone app would not be invoked and popped up, instead our phone app would be shown. And the selected phone number would be caught;
1). When clicking a number in Contacts list or CallLog, how do I stop the default behavior---starting the default WM6 phone dialer app--- and launch the custom phone dialer app we provide?
2). Since the number clicked is not a hard key, how can I catch the event and pass it to the custom phone app?
Really appreciate any helps,
Mike J.
you can't override windows and replace files in it, the best you can hope for (ask HTC and Samsung) is to either skin or create with windows. In your case you're trying to create a dialer that will basically hide most functions already build into windows (contacts, missed calls, etc) I think what you want to do is build the entire program yourself from scratch...link it how you want then tag it with green button so that instead of the default dialer opening your program (dialer with your own customizable setup) will open. I believe that is the easiest solution. Out of curiousity, what exactly are the current dialers lacking that makes you want to create your own dialer? Eitherwaygood luck with your project

[Q] Make Google Voice the default text application

I use Google Voice for everything. I was able to swap out my default voicemail to utilize GV, but I can't seem to do it for the default text/messaging application.
When I left swipe or click on a contact and click message I want it to pull up the GV text vs the native text application.
Right now if I ever want to text, I have to open up the GV app first.
Thanks.
Have you tried clearing defaults? I have GV as my main SMS source and it works great. It asked me which to pick when I first installed it and of course you won't get that message again if you've picked a default after installing GV

Uninstalled and reinstalled and I did get this option upon first use. I must have accidentally selected messaging the first time around. Thanks! This is exactly what I was hoping for!
if it happens with another app just know that you can go to settings >applications then go to the current default app (for whatever it might be), and select clear defaults

I figured that one out too late. Definitely helpful for next time

When you go into your contacts and look under history do you see your GV text messages in there?
The only ones I see in there are the native text app and not the GV texts.

[Q] After switch to Froyo (CM 6.1 final) default phone number is lost

I used to have an HTC Magic running Android 1.5. All my contacts were Gmail ones (ie no HTC/phone contacts at all). All of my contacts have/had multiple phone numbers and I selected from the phone itself which one was the default.
I updated to RCMagic 2.1 v3(the one in the current signature), which was running Android 2.1. During the initial setup all my contacts were transferred succesfully to the phone, including the default number information. That is, when I pressed "call" after selecting a contact using the HTC dialer, the default number was called.
Yesterday I upgraded to Cyanogen 6.1 final. Again my contacts were transferred during initial setup, *but* this time the default contact information is lost. Pressing the green handset icon next to a contact for which I had previously selected a default number, a dialog presenting all phones is given to me, with a checkmarked option at the bottom to remember which phone number I want to make default.
IOW, all default number info seems to have disappeared... Am I missing something? Any hidden option to bring these numbers back? Or was it a bug that killed this information in the first place?

Changing default Phone Dialer

I've installed Go dialer and was hoping to use this instead of the stock dialer but unlike other apps it doesn't give me the option to make Go the default app for calls.
The launch by default options says no defaults set and is greyed out on both the Go dialer and stock dialer.
How can I change it so whenever I make or receive a call it uses Go dialer?
Thanks
Jon

Use Titanium and freeze the phone app.

Hi Jon,
Have you tried making a call using the Go dialer? After the call, your phone should ask you what dialer to get back to, because it needs to know what app to use to show you your call history. Just select Go dialer from there (but to be honest, I only found Go Contacts EX on the Playstore). Hope it works out
Alternatively, I find that I prefer using exDialer, because I love how you can enter part of a contact name or number, have that contact show up, and then swipe left to send SMS or swipe right to call them. Quite useful! Check it out if you want hahaha

I've tried making a call with Go dialer and when the call ends it just gives me the option of using the stock dialer.

Looks like your phone doesn't think the Go dialer is actually installed... Try cleaning the cache and cleaning data for the Go dialer app, uninstall it, reboot your phone, and then re-install Go dialer. Maybe that'll make your phone recognize the Go dialer app.

How to access alternative numbers on the stock Samsung Dialer

Maybe I'm just going mad, but after a full reset, I think I'm missing some functionality in the Dialer.
If I pull up the Dialer, and start using T9-like search, e.g. search for "John" by dialing 5646, then the drop down list will pull up all the Contact called "John" (or that match other letters on those keys), or have "5646" in their number. If you click the down arrow/count, then the list is popped up.
Each Contact has their "default" number listed (if the default is not explicitly set on the contact, I think it uses the first/only number defined).
If you wanted to use a number other than the default, I was pretty sure that you could tap the thumbnail image to show the alternative numbers, and select from there, but this isn't working for me. Tapping the area other than the image selects the default number, but tapping the image has no effect.
Does anybody know how to get the Dialer to show the list of alternative numbers? Is it a setting/permission that I'm missing?
Anybody else having this problem, or can think of a solution?
If there a multiple numbers then i see them all listed when i click on the contact and then i select the one number i want. It was always listing them all, don't recall changing a setting
Thanks for the response - that's how I remember it working, but I can't imagine what I've done to stop if functioning like that.
I have the same problem on N910C 6.0.1. Does anyone have the solution?
P.S. I disabled all keyboards except the SwiftKey, disabled voice input and S voice. And removed S find from the notification dropdown by cuting the "com.sec.feature.findo.xml": https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/root-how-to-remove-s-finder-quick-t3161432
I dont know if that broke the dialer search, but i returned that last file and it didnt help (S find was back).
