I received the unlock code for my at&t streak, but don't have another sim to install. Is there a way to enter it with my original at&t sim installed? Thanks in advance.
To my knowledge thats the only way. I havent found an entry other than that.

Thats the only way i found to unlock it... I bought a 19.99 prepaid T-mobile phone at walmart to get a sim card.

If you need a sim card let me know. as long as your in the us i can mail it to you. all i ask is you pay for shipping
I just asked a friend to borrow his SIM for a minute
Thank you for the replies. I forgot, my nextel from work had a sim in it. Problem solved, streak unlocked.
How and where did you get the code from?
Thanks
so, why unlock the phone anyways if you dont have another sim card?
I am on AT&T and unlocked my device so when I travel, all I have to do is pick up a sim card and I am back in action.

Just what gordata said. I´m in mexico now, but unlocked before I left without another sim. Just put SIM in and you are taken to the unlock screen. I imagine there must be a way to get to that screen without a new SIM card.

I've done a bunch of searching on this and can't find a thing; I know there are certain restrictions on the sims (locked) but that's as far as it goes.
I may be going to Greece (from US) for 2-3 months and am about to buy a Streak here in the US.
Can I use the phone there without having to go through AT&T's "overseas plan"? Can I, for example, use a Vodaphone sim or any other for that matter while I'm away?
Thanks for the help.
EDIT: Almost forgot to ask, what type of speed do I expect compared to ATT's 3G?
Short answer: no, you can't. When the phone is sim-locked, you can't use any other sim cards than att-sims.
Slightly longer answer: you may call att once you get the phone and tell them you will be staying with att, but you're going to greece for 2-3 months. they may send you an unlock code (see the other recently updated unlocking thread). i think you also have to buy the full priced version from dell, not the one with an att subscription. i just sent them a fax with a proof of purchase, because they needed to know the price i paid for the device... good luck!

Seems like you have personal experience with this sort of thing.
So basically, buy a phone at full price and then maybe att will give me an unlock code?

Not true.
I've had att provide me with the unlock code for many devices that I paid the subsidized price for.
What you have to do is call them and request it, have your devices imei # available. once they tell you that they can't access the unlock code or whatever the issue ask them what your options are and if they don't suggest to open a case then request to open one. They'll take your email from you and you should get the code within 2 weeks.
Remember to be polite and when they offer you the international roaming package, just kindly deny it and say your more comfortable with using a local sim card. Also good to say that your going overseas for business so they take you nour seriously.
As for the data speeds, find what frequency the network in greece uses then compare that to the streaks
Good luck.

1. calling att is cheaper?
2. changing sim cards often when using rebel sim ii is a hassle
3. rebel sim is not a true unlock, and it complicates everything..
but, tr8rjohnk, if att won't give you the unlock code, go ahead and buy a rebel sim ii..

Yeah! shutting the phone down, removing the back, taking out the battery, taking out the sim, sliding in the new sim, replacing the battery, putting the cover back on taking all of 5 valuable minutes at the start and the end of your three month tenure could really bring a man down

Can you, or can you not, use any sim anywhere within the developed world whilst using a rebel ii sim? Yes! so why is it different from any other unlocking technique
Good info, everyone, thanks for the input. I'll be looking into the rebel sim ii and also speaking with att.

well, me and att are on opposite sides of the atlantic - and calling att for 10 minutes is still much cheaper than ordering (and shipping) the rebel sim..

well, it's different in that you phone is still locked to a provider.. have you read any other threads about rebel sim? until rebel sim released the new firmware for their sims, 3g did't work properly.. as i said, it complicates things... i just punched in my 8 digit code i got from att (called them on friday), and the streak works like a charm with my (uncut) norwegian sim card..
guys, calling Att is for the US sold ATT devices. I'm pretty sure, but not 100%, that they can tell from the imei if it was sold via dell.com in the US or not. If not i don't think they'll issue you the unlock code, unless the unlock code generator that LBK Tech for At&t has doesn't distinguish the imeis
So Im getting my Samsung Captivate I ordered offline shipped by ups today, Im with At&t now, on a contract. And Im still with Tmobile month to month so im keeping my Vibrant. I just wondered, if I have the unlock code for both which code do I use when changing sim cards?
Example, I put my tmobile sim card in my Captivate do I use the Vibrant unlock code or the Captivate unlock code when its ask for it
Same visa versa, how does that work.

you'll need to use the unlock code for that specific phone.
so when putting the tmobile sim in the at&t phone you'll need to put the code in for the captivate. the code is phone specific and not sim specific.

Hey,
So I recently bought an unlocked T-Mobile HTC HD2 from the marketplace forum. However, it does not seem to be recognizing my Telus SIM card. It simply states "No SIM, Please insert SIM" even when my SIM is inserted.
I thought it may be because the phone was not unlocked as it was described to be, but then I tried a family members Rogers SIM, and it worked perfectly.
Any idea as to what's going on?
You might need to get a new sim card. Sometimes if you have a older sim card the HD2 will not recognize it.
Hm, that would be interesting, considering my SIM is less than a year old...

Hmmm that is curious then, maybe it is not the right type of sim card as there is different classes of sim card, or at least I think there is. you might want to take your HD2 to your local Telus store and tell them your problem and see if they think a new sim card will help or maybe have another suggestion for you.
So, I just tried my brothers Telus SIM, and it also did not work...
Is it possible that the phone is only unlocked for use on Rogers here in Canada?
I'll head to the Telus store tomorrow and see what they say..

It is unlikely that it is not unlocked to Telus as when a phone is sim unlocked it is suppose to be unlocked to all cell providers, but when you sim unlock a phone you have to have a sim card from another provider so maybe it just unlocked it to that carrier of the sim card you use to unlock the phone. I am not 100% sure about this as Io have never sim unlocked any of my phones but I have read plenty about doing it and people that have done it.

Yeah, that's sort of what I was thinking. Although it was my understanding that even though you have one SIM in it when it's unlocked, it should be SIM unlocked for other carriers as well. But maybe I'm mistaken.
Should I try unlocking it again using an online service, but this time make sure I've got my Telus SIM in it?

Well like I said I was under the impression once you sim unlock your phone it is unlocked to all carriers. But hey it couldn't hurt to buy a unlock code from one of the many services online that you can buy a code from, they are not expensive. But make sure you buy one from a reputable seller. Plus most of the online services have the code to you in very short order.
Hi,
I was just wondering what type of message to expect when you put in a foreign (Canadian provider: Rogers\Chatr, and Wind\Mobilicity) SIM card into the phone be it unlocked or not. I ordered a phone and it would not even detect the SIM card, it just said no SIM Card Emergency Calls Only. So I sent it back for a refund which is still pending approval, but the seller still claims that the phone works with US carrier SIM cards (T-Mobile, AT&T).
What do you guys think?
i have a wind mobile sim based android phone with a qualcom chipset and sim booted right into it. Pre and post rooted the phone worked just fine. Stupid question but was the sim inserted properly and was it seated correctly and titly so that it was connecting. I've never had an issue with foreign phones. I'm stateside

Yea, I even tried putting paper in there to make a tighter connection. I can't understand how the phone wouldn't recognize any of my SIMs that work perfectly in other phones, but works just fine with the US SIMs that the seller has. I think the seller is trying to scam me out of the return shipping.
Does anyone have the solution to this problem? I don't understand how the phone could work fine with US SIM cards, but not work at all with Canadian SIM cards (i.e. not even recognize that a SIM card is in the phone).

I take it you are near the U.S. border, where about? If you're near me, we can meet up and see if it is consistent in all the myTouch 4Gs. Mine is rooted, unlocked, good screen and good eMMC. Should be the best scenario to double check.

No need to. I've seen people call in after coming from another country and have used foreign SIM cards in the phone.

This makes sense that foreign SIM cards would work, if the phone communicates through a standard GSM frequency it should work for all of them. When I had the phone I rooted it with s-OFF and I'm assuming that would unlock it even for foreign SIM cards. Anyone experienced with phones being locked to a particular country?
I want to buy another MT4G but I also want to make sure it will work in Canada first.
rooting your phone does not unlock your sim. call tmobile and tell them you would like to unlock your phone because you travel out of the US often.
I did that and after it was unlocked I was able to use my phone in Ireland with a pay as you go O2 sim card

Im not sure. My phone has been unlocked for awhile but I believe that if your phone is not unlocked when you put a foreign sim card in and turn it on it will ask you for the unlock code.
When you turned your phone on with your Canadian sim card in it did it tell you that your phone did not have a sim card in it, or were you just unable to get service?

put a sim in it, any sim except the original networks sim. if it askks for an unlock code its locked.

There is no such thing as a CDMA SIM card, aside from Nextel SIM cards that use the iDEN network. Try another SIM.

Yeah there isn't that's why I questioned the fact of the sim card being from a cdma phone. But you were eight apparently you can put the card in too far lol. It found the card and just said mobile network unavailable. No passwords or anything. So I'm guessing it is unlocked?
