Hello, Need a little favor - Galaxy Tab General

Hi,
I'm interested to buy the samsung galaxy tab but I first need if someone could tell me:
can the samgung galaxy tab run the Villohelper?
It is available on the market right now , if someone could please download it and post here if it works.
thanks,
PD: and how about the gps, is it completely functional?

Villohelper installs fine. I'm in the UK so can't fully test the Belgian aspects .
GPS is very good on the Tab. No problems found.

Gps is good. I mean it locks on to ur location and everything in seconds. Also the working gps combined with the tab and the google maps recent update is awesome.

Not to mention the new Google 3D maps are awesome too! - Chicago

all of you Thanks for your replies! I'm getting one of these babes very soon, so we will see again.
thanks

new Google earth with Streetview

theUnwired posted yesterday about a new Google Maps with street view, and it is listed on the Google Mobile Maps site, but I can't get the thing downloaded. When I try to download on the phone (in Opera) Java opens for some reason and then hangs. Anyone have the CAB? And you can't download from your computer, have to get it directly to the phone. Thank in advance...
*edit* just thought of trying with PocketIE, will post back if it works...
Ok, it works with PocketIE, downloaded the CAB and installing now! Silly Opera...just go to m.google.com/maps and download...
yep it works pretty well, still no UK coverage of street views, but I "took a walk" around paris last night ;P
There was a direct link to it on the dev&hacking forum I think.
confirmed works great! but im disappointed to see that the iphone wins over again in functionality - streetview on ppc is limited to left and right 360 degrees whereas the new iphone app has ful spherical view with up and down aswell oh well its better than nothing
How do i get the PPC Version? I only get the jave version there..that the java version has Streetview is nothing new...but the Java version comes without GPS support.
You have to go there in PocketIE and NOT in Opera...as I said in the second post...

what are the benefits of this version of google maps compared to the pre-installed version already on the phone?
anybody have problems with their phone freezing up after installing the newest version of Google Maps with Street View?
I tried the new Google Maps today while driving home with the GPS turned on and the phone froze 3 times on me, requiring a soft reboot before the phone could be usable again. I ended up uninstalling the new version and resinstalling the version which came with the phone.

Comes with Street View, and some more menu features.
You're not loosing anything, so it's worth it in my view.

GPS Application for Australia

Does anyone know what i should get in terms of a GPS application for my Desire with a compatible map of Australia?
I'm looking at copilot, but the site hosting it seems to be down 24/7 :\ so i dont know what to do!
I've got the NZ/Aus Copilot over here in Auckland, works fine. No need for the website, get it from the Market.
Try AndNav2 or any OpenStreetMap based application.
Sygic works fine for me in Australia.

You running it on Android 2.1? ...and is it Mobile Maps 10? It wont let me open it on my Desire
Why not keep it 'in house' xda stye and try this -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
It sweet for me. I just got my desire 2 days ago and used to use tomtom on my diamond before. The interface is a bit rougher than TT, but its got street view and is the work of one of our own..
EDIT: After reading a few comment's it seems that Google Maps GPS runs down the battery and has a horrible lag, So I installed Sygic Mobile Maps 10 and yes, it works. I haven't tested it out on the road yet.

Yes, Sygic Mobile Maps 10, latest version. Runs fine and works as expected on stock Desire but is a bit odd to use as it has it's own way to navigate around the screen. (You have to use forward/back buttons on the screen, hard back button does nothing,...).
GPS for Aussies
Mate,
Go for CoPilot. Works well for me on Desire. Got Aus Map and RSA too (world cup). Directions are spot on. No need for a constant connection while travelling. Although I noticed that GPS fixes WAY faster with wifi/3G is on. There are some websites that have a hacked free version from google results, but I personally chose to buy it.
Good app!!

I've decided to go with Sygic. It works wonderfully - except for the fact it thinks my home address is 5.2km in the wrong direction.... smeh, hopefully that's the only address it stuffs up with hahaha. I wish TT would get their act together. I'm too used to its functionality and UI.

Google Maps Navigation not working? - canada

Hey all,
For anyone with Bell vibrant version, do any of you have the problem with the "Google Maps Navigation is not yet available for your location" popping up when you open the app? Obviously this is not true since it's fully available here in Canada, not to mention the fact that it worked fine for me before. On my previous JG9 firmware it worked fine, but it seems to have sort of fudged up after the JH2 update. Now it shows that message, turn-by-turn nav is not available and only gives you the option of showing you directions.
Not that I use navigation much, but how should I go about in fixing this problem? any settings or caches I can clear to make it work again?
yes, same error, the fix is to install a new version from Android market
but it is better to use a decent GPS software like CoPilot, IGo, or anything of that quality.
Thanks for the info. I don't think I use GPS enough to buy a better app for it though, but I'll remember it as reference. I'll download the new version of stock for now.

Google Maps Navigation suddenly stopped working for me on Friday 20th (southern Ontario). Current version is 4.4.0. No update available yet.
It has happened right in the middle of a long weekend trip. It's good I had my old reliable Garmin with me...
I got my phone less than a week ago. Installed Google Maps 4.4 right away. It's worked perfectly since. I'm on whatever firmware the phone came with.
I'm having the same problem on two different phones.
It comes and goes. Restarting the phone usually helps as a temporary fix.
@AllGamer: Google's Navigation may not have some advanced features but I find it far superior to both my Magellan and TomTom.
created a FAQ that answer some of the questions regarding the "Navigator"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=763887
@hoomanb yes, i do like the google navigator, but it's not quite perfect yet, and as you said neither is TomTom
every one of those apps have something i like and dislike
currently using CoPilot, is almost great, but is also missing something i like from TomTom & Google Maps
if they could just combine all 3 of them together...

[Q] Navigation software

Hi
Sorry if this has been discussed, but I couldn't find anything.
I'm interested in buying an Optimus One and I would really like to know what GPS software can I install, because GoogleMaps is not an option where there's no 3G signal...
Is iGO available for Android?
I'm really new in Andoid stuff, just got rid of my good-for-nothing Nokia 5230 (Symbian really sucks, the only good thing in it was the OviMaps app).
I ude ndrive..it cost $ but the ui turn by turn a like alot.
hello 22VIN ,
on my optimus one, I have installed iGO My Way 8.4.2.13242 and Sygic Aura. both of them is working very well no need 3G, just GPS enabled. the gps receiver itself is very fast , sensitive & accurate. I recommend it.
Try Copilot or Navigon.

If iGO works this is the best solution for me, because iGO has a very complete map of Romania (this I know for sure, I don't know anything about the other software) and I am very familiar to the interface.
3G is useful for A-GPS, because you can get a position lock in a few seconds, but if you say the receiver is fast, then it's ok.
Thanks for the answers
No, just use the new google maps 5.0. Has offline caching now.

Yeah. But still isn't as good as iGO. Which does have an Android version, just as mr_ace_sk said. I'm using v8.4.2.124036 with maps from July 2010 on my LG P500. I'm pleased with this combination.

Here you go... Sorry for the delayed reply... This one is not the orignal one.. But its good.. You can use the 240MB India premium maps with this
And here is the original.
I use OruxMaps for the very reason that it supports full offline use. You prepare a map on the PC using mobile atlas creator (aka download maps from google maps or any provider, then create a file you can use on OruxMaps).
1. OruxMaps http://www.oruxmaps.com/index_en.html
2. MobAc http://mobac.dnsalias.org/
Downloaded my city's entire map from layers 16 - 18 xD I have never accessed the internet with my phone using OruxMaps for GPS stuff, and I have never manually cached stuff using the phone

That would be great. MEans no data connection or GPS required.
I plan to buy one in the next couple of days.
I was wondering, can I still use those maps if I switch to FLIGHT MODE? Or for initial fix A-GPS is a must.
I ask this question because many entry level phones have very poor GPS antenna, which means getting a cold fix without A-GPS can take 15-20 minutes, if not more.
Yes.. You can ...
Need india map file for ndrive
mod edit: Do not ask for warez. This is the last warning!
btw i am using google maps navigation feature it's 98% acurate

Is there any plan for standalone use of Maps on GPS equipped smartwatches?

Is there any plan for standalone use of Maps on GPS equipped smartwatches? Tried asking this over at Google Community but their forum doesn't work -- any new question gets an error message and won't post, so I'm hoping to find some help here.
According to Android Pit, “It’s easy to get turn-by-turn directions on your Android Wear smartwatch. Plus, with Android Wear 2.0, you can do it without being connected to your smartphone if your smartwatch has GPS built-in.”
Even a Google Support article regarding AW 2.0 seems to indicate this is possible, just by downloading and using Google Maps on your AW 2.0 device.
My device, the ZTE Quartz, has been reviewed as allowing for stand alone navigation. It has GPS, a SIM card, runs on a 3G network, and has GPS. It even has a menu option for Location of using “Device Only” for GPS. Yet, I can’t use Google Maps without use of my phone.
Wasn’t this supposed to be part of AW 2.0, using maps with the wearable only? It seems there is definitely a sense that it should be possible, as I've indicated above . I keep coming across references to it being possible, but also feedback that it is not possible in real life.
I see Huawei 2 customers are also frustrated, having understood that they could use the watch only for navigation, and yet it does not work, according to threads I've come across, while trying to research this.
The ZTE Quartz Community suggests it is a Google Maps problem that maybe will be fixed in the future? The thought seems to be that AW 2.0 should be capable of it, but the Maps app is at fault.
Any plans to address this? Or will navigation always require use of both the watch and the phone? This greatly reduces the independent use of the watch, obviously, which seemed to be the point of AW 2.0, to address such.
Any thoughts? Is anyone on AW 2.0, with a GPS enabled watch, able to use navigation without a phone?
Huawei watch 2 here.
As for the recent time, i found navigation with the watch to be unreliable, lag and overall pretty useless. With or without phone.
The google app and the maps app got several updates recently so I'll give it a try again.
lg urbane 2
i have the same issue and searching for a solution. the menu already says: use gps inbuilt and smartphone and can't change the option.
can we edit this somewhere?

Hi, yes I use it on my Moto 360 sport (upgraded AW2) and it works surprisingly well. Maps are quite clear on watch, zoom in and out easily and pick a start and end point then the app will plot a route and navigate - all offline with no phone!
I'm quite impressed. The only app that comes near is Viewranger.
I made a standalone navigation map here, if you'd like to try it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.onibaku.standalonewearmap

This is looking really good. I want true standalone navigation on my Huawei Watch 2 4G. It has a sim so loads the route standalone and seems to be able to do everything expected...i'm trying the demo version now.
One question though...unless i'm missing something..how do you exit the app? I'm currently having to force close it.

I had not realised that the app does not cease to use GPS whilst it is in sleep mode, so I have added a button to exit the app properly when you drag down. I've just released it now.

Hi I have just bought the standalone wear map for my Huawei watch 2 and it works very well.
Would like to check whether we can record the tracks and have an option to display it on the watch screen in additional to the routes (plot out by defining the destinations).
If no, would there be plan in the future.
Thanks.
