Correct, sort of... You must be eligable for an "Upgrade" so I'm deffinately not eligable for that as I have only paid 8 months of my 2 yr contract.

I was but I have 3 lines so I used one of them as the available upgrade. I been with them for 5 or 6 years and just renewed my contract when I got the slide about 4 or 5 months ago.
If all else fails, try again. We all know not every rep knows everything.

Probably both, but most likely the G2 forums. I've already been looking at the root process!

Yes and a "loyal" customer. I think it's through at least one two-year contract cycle, although I've been with them for about seven years. Geez, that's a long time!

That's ok. By the time your contract is up, you'll probably be able to get some badass 2 GHz dual core ice cream or jello (or whatever Google's gonna call it, purely guessing) phone!

Honeycomb so the rumor goes for 3.0
I actually have no clue what I'll do with my slide... sell it maybe. Any noobs want a slide with all the goods done already? lol
Anyway, I checked out the root process too. I'll be biting my nails the whole way through perm root, CID, and all that. Hell might as well do the SIM unlock while I'm at it - looks like an all nighter for me Haven't done that since trying to get adb to see the slide with the original method.
I worked for them for a short stint back in 2001 (worked there during the 9/11 incident, that was a nightmare) and have been a member ever since. I do not think I have ever fully finished a contract before signing a new one. I forgot my other account has multiple lines used by my brother and parents... maybe I should check on theirs.
FYI, apparently, according to a rep I talked to today, yesterday was the last day (or only day?) of this deal. So for those who didn't take advantage, you're SOL.
On another note, I called to get a tracking number, which is how I found out about the deal being over, and my G2's are en route to be delivered today! The crappy part is I won't be able to mess with them until Xmas due to the fact I'm surprising my wife with them for Xmas. Oh well, what's a few extra days, right?
Yes, yes... laugh it up fuzzball!
Really saddening reading this.

I have the Hero and like everyone else here am drooling over the Evo. Can't upgrade till October though, but it didn't hurt to ask for a little exception from the CEO himself.
Here's a link to my story of trying to upgrade early:

EDIT: Bottom line, if you're not eligible for upgrade, you're not getting an upgrade price. No exceptions. But, they're willing to buy your phone back for about $80 if it's a Hero.

Or you could sell it on eBay for $200 buy-it-now and purchase the Evo retail ($450-200 = $250)
Not much more than a new contract price!

... interesting...
I hadn't even thought of that. Although I seriously doubt anyone would pay $200 for a used hero but if so mine is still pristine.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm not up for an upgrade till February so for the time being i love my hero and have no complaints except one. Why if ur making a phone would u put only a few hundred mb internal memory on it. I mean i can buy a flash drive for 5 or 10 bucks and it be 4 to 8 gigs. Kinda retarded if u ask me. That and keyboard lag.
Back on subject...if I really wanted to go to evo I'm sure I could call sprint and convince them. I've been with them for 13 years and it's always worked in the past if u threaten to go to metro pcs. I'm sure my account has some interesting notes in it cause I always get my way. Ill debate them until they get tired of me. Morons lmao

Your lucky if you get $100 for the hero now. Im not due for an upgrade until november and im sure by then there will be a better phone out than the evo. It's an endless cycle.

I've read various users on here selling their's for $200 BIN, although this was probably a little less than a month ago. With the ever-looming release of the Evo, this may have gone down..Although I wouldn't assume you would get any less than $150, especially since Best Buy is offering $211 (Last I checked) store credit for it.
Personally, I love my Hero. Running Fresh Toast, I benchmark only 1 mflop less than an N1 with 2.1...Perfectly acceptable to me. I'll pass on the Evo and see what comes after

I had a similiar issue about moving the upgrade date up, but I was only asking for a month. It took 3 calls and me talking to a supervisor to get them to give me the early upgrade. I think it helped that I was only 5 months away from being with them for 10 years. Either way, it was a real big hassle and we almost told them to stick it......But I held me ground and we did get the ealry upgrade. Ended up betting 2 heros for $99

Yes!! Dual-Core 1.5GHz Snapdragon phones!!! I may just hold out for these. Supposedly the first ones are due out by the end of this year. Contract upgrade time baby!
So sad that I am second guessing the EVO now. I love Top Of The Line stuff, but sadly with cell phones they get snuffed out quickly.
I think my problem is too many addicitions to spread my money around on. I need to get off the Coke and Meth....i've said too much.
Yes, from what I have been told they cannot give early upgrades but they can do other things. If anything, call them and tell them that if you can’t get an EVO you will terminate your contract and pay the fee. They’ll try to keep you with other options. I did this when the Hero came out and they gave me $20/mo off our plan for the next 24 months. Not too shabby. I don’t even feel bad because Sprint will rape you if you let them.
As far as the EVO, I’m waiting until Xmas to see what HTC releases. I would hate to get the EVO, only to find out that HTC rushed it so it could be the first 4G phone and releases one way better in December or the first quarter of 2011.

Man, I have gotten what I want out of Sprint every time I've tried (but I don't think I've ever asked for something unreasonable ) EXCEPT the time I tried to get my upgrade ONE DAY EARLY. Best Buy was doing a crazy sale and I spent 40 minutes outside outside the store on the phone with Sprint to no avail. Luckily the manager at BB was willing to honor the sale the following day and I ended up getting an unheard of deal on 2 hero's and a blackberry curve
i called in right before they released 2.1 and told them i was canceling becasue of the problems with 1.5(lmao) if they didnt reset my upgrade date and they did on the spot no problem

10 free EVO's and an OD huh?
I didn't realize you had such a good sense of humor...
dont ask for much do you? With verizon comes the cellphone gestapo with charges for every service imaginable. and IMO ive had MUCH better signal with my sprint than my verizon phone.... BUT if you get 10 free EVOs then your the man! Goodluck.
good luck dude...
I'm doubting you'll get 10 free Evo's, so you'll probably go to Verizon and lose your 4G...
Good luck on Verizon.....
Sprint's first offer was free Samsung Moments or Heros. I told them that wasnt apples to apples so I figured i would through it out here... My bill is 1100 dollars a month so the way I figure asking for free EVOs is not out of the question when i am signing a guaranteed 2 year contract that is worth 26,400 dollars over the life of that 2 years.

btw I doubt this will go thru, so good luck with Verizon. Doesn't sound like you really wanna go over to them or you would have already done it and wouldn't be trying to play Sprint into your hands with this thread.
I think that's reasonable as long as you've been with them for a significant amount of times. They throw a lot of free stuff out like that for loyal customers.

In our logic that might seem reasonable but from a company stand point taking a hit upfront like that isn't something they tend to lean towards. Maybe buy 5 get 5 would be something to shoot for? Not to mention where are these Evo's coming from? It's hard enough to find one or two....

Not at all... I feel this is a Very Valid request that Sprint should Honor, If I was renewing one phone on a cheap shared plan Maybe I understand if they dont want to wheel and deal... When Ive got 10 lines to renew 9 of those on everything plans and an unlimited data card, they would be foolish not to make this deal....

Obviously there is more to this story if you're saying that you even [just so happen to] know Sprints system and their key codes for discounts. With all of your inside knowledge, maybe I should message you about some codes to get my bill lower
EDIT: I am all for getting the best deal and I hope this works out for you. It just seems that you're playing a game of smoke and mirrors by (a) posting on a public forum for business needs and (b) noting that you know the codes to make it all work in the Sprint system. It almost seems like you're looking for a gullible employee to get it into the system for you meaning that Sprint will have to honor it for you at the possible cost of some form of discipline to the employee that puts it in.

Do you have 4G in your area? You might want to wait till later this year when VZ rolls out LTE, if they do in your area anyway. I don't think they will have LTE compatible phones anytime soon however, but since you want an overdrive you should take it into consideration. You could also wait for the Epic4g, and get a mix of evos and epics in case any of your employees like keyboards. They both have FFC so you can easily do video chats. By that time the evos will be older and they might be more willing to give you free ones, especially if they actually have them in stock, lol. Its hard to find one of them, let alone 10.

Not really sure yet. For some reason I'm not entirely impressed with the SGSIII. May check out something by HTC. I've never had one of their smartphones.
Not me. I'm off contract now, so unless something goes wrong I'll be rocking my Vibrant for quite some time. It'd be nice to have a decent camera though
I sure am, although i will look around for best deals at places like walmart, best buy, costco, amazon etc and may be wait sometime for deals to show up. I am due for full upgrade on june 21st, but don't want to drop 200 bucks. is there any additional charges like activation fees etc when upgrading?
While I am not on TMo my contract doesn't end until November and I have been grandfathered in the "unlimited" data with my carrier (until they decide I'm not anymore and screw me). But with that being said, I'll go unlocked when that time comes, so hopefully they'll come way down in price by then much like the GNex is now.
$799usd retail is too rich for my blood. I love my Vibe anyways and I just bought a tablet 3 moths ago, so pretty sure a new phone would be a hard sell with the wifely right now.

I agree, I'm gonna stick with my Vib for a bit more.
I have to buy my own phones (i'm a teen, my parents do not pay for me) and that price is just too steep, and with the gas prices these days. I'd go broke before I buy another smartphone. I recently also bought the Galaxy Tab 10.2, I'm planning on not rooting or anything, keeping it a virgin for as long as I can. I use it quite frequently when I'm at home, so rather not brick it or anything.
I'm due for an upgrade on the 30th of June, so depending on how much they want me to fork out....I may be sticking to my vibrant for a little while longer...which I honestly have no problem doing ^^ haha
If you ARE due for an upgrade, how much is it going to cost? The reg. $200?
I can probably take my moms upgrade, she loves her Vibrant and could care less about the next big thing.

For the record: It was AT&T that decided to lock the bootloader, not HTC. Notice how the One S has its bootloader unlocked officially through HTCDev.

SGS3 is cool and all, but I like how functional my Vibrant is already thanks to the devs. Isn't the point of XDA suppose to be getting the most out of your devices while they're still kicking? I can understand certain grievances like say....OUR GPS. But that's about it.

Technically true, but they also locked S-On and won't unlock that.
What I just don't get is, why? There's always a work around, yeah locked bootloaders and S-On make it harder, but they don't stop it from happening, so why do it?

Its up in the air for me right now. If Sprint is still doing unlimited data when I'm ready to move on (I've been ready since the day I bought this phone, but I don't like wasting money, so I'm just waiting as long as I can), then I'm moving to them and getting the next Nexus or an iPhone 5. If not, I'm gonna unlock my Vibrant and just use T-Mobile's prepaid service until I NEED to buy a new phone.
Can't wait for the Galaxy SIII.
My phone is breaking down and reporting weird battery numbers.
I'm ready to buy a GS3 from my carrier (WIND) for $599.99 (16GB Version)
Don't forget that the phone also includes the tax on the $799.99 price tag (around $66 in cali) even with the $200 after rebate price tag, $6 LCD waste fee, and other miscellaneous bs fees and taxes.
I'm out...been off contact since November...waiting around for a worthy upgrade... this more than qualifies...can't wait.

If I remember correctly edge is not a contract so you don't have a termination fee, just a payment fee. And from what I heard from T-Mobile, they will only buy out your contract/pay termination fee. They will not pay your edge installment balance off. Just fyi if you did want to eventually leave Verizon while you have Edge installments.

That's early edge, meaning that you're recycling into another edge installment. you have to completely pay off your phone if you wanted to leave the service. it looks like what you're trying to do has a slim chance of seeing a glimmer of light lol. all in all, if you do it this way, pay the full amount of the phone you have and sell it at ebay/swappa/cl price. not sure what phone you have but i'm sure you'll be losing a few hundred bucks. sorry buddy, that's the trick of edge, they got you.

You can switch over to a 2 year contract. I just went through this with Verizon.

Lmaoooo... I tried to make it sound as off the record as it can possibly be. I'm sure all those conversations are monitored.

That's good to know that you can switch over. That also means you just forked over hundreds of dollars (to pay off 75% for a device) to verizon AND bought a new phone under a 2 year agreement plus activation fee. But if you started edge when it first came out, then there's no problem about that since you've been already paying that for that period of time.
Or, are you planning to switch to a different carrier for them to pay ETF?

I'm doing the 2yr contract. Getting the moto x since its free right now with the headphones. With all the fees I'm paying about 90 dollars. Than I'm going to sell them on ebay. To help with the cost of the nexus 6.
Thought I'd mention that on the official Verizon forums I found a post from mid December where a person claimed to have been told January 2nd by a support rep. That gives me hope that it truly will be released eventually.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
VZ extended their exchange period for the holidays until 1/15. I GUARENTEE they won't release it during that time period. Look for it no earlier than 1/16.
I switched the family over to Verizon yesterday and ended up using a iphone 5S IMEI to get my number to activate before popping it in my CW Nexus 6. The rep that was doing the activations said that he has played with a Verizon Nexus 6 during his training. He asked me how I liked it. I did ask him when it would release and he said he wasnt sure, just that the phone was undergoing testing and should release soon.
Only gripe would be that I cant do Data while On a phone call. Was used to this when I was on AT&T and came in handy while on Conf calls and such.
Ran across this interesting article. Does anyone know how this will affect GN4 users like me who bought a phone on the cheap from Best Buy?

Looks promising. I'm not sure if the Note 4 has the frequencies for the other US carriers though. I'd have to look it up. I need to get off sprint since their service is dismal in my area. I'd love to put my wife's Note 4 on T-Mobile.

Get that. From what I have read it does have GSM capability... How much I don't know. What I am wondering is... Is my phone considered payed for as I paid $165 out the door at bestbuy....
They're not gonna unlock the Note 4. If I can find the link, there's a good post on Reddit. I think the guy works for Sprint Corporate and explained the process. But it's only going to be for devices "Launched" after 02/15.
Except for the damn iPhones, they're allowing the 5C, 5s, 6 and 6+ all to be unlocked after 02/19/2015. I'm going off the top of my head here, I read this while at work. So even if you purchase a device after Feb it doesn't matter, unless it was officially launched after that point.
The unlocks will be automatic and done OTA once you reach the criteria. You have to have the device fully paid off, or paid your ETF if on contract. Some other rules and such which I don't recall.

Sounds like you did an upgrade subsidy. Not sure how long before Sprint considers it yours. The subsidized price is based on signing the 2 year contract renewal.

Yup... So like I said... I wonder when this phone will be considered mine/paid for... Well I could call Sprint and ask but if I talk to 3 different CS people I would probably get 3 different answers. Anyway, thanks for your input.

How true! And sad! In most articles regarding phone subsidies it appears it is included in the ETF.
Sprint will unlock your device for international use at any time, I switched to Sprint just this January, and 3 days later my phone was unlocked for international use. I did not buy it out right, my Note 4 has monthly payments still. You just gotta ask.
Now, they won't unlock it for domestic carriers until you pay it off though.

Per the info I've read, a subsidized 2yr contract must be completed, OR the ETF paid off. This will complete the process and allow Domestic SIM Unlocking. The phone, or payment plan etc had to be fully paid off (ETF/completed contract). Then it will be done over the air automatically.
Again though, this device (Note 4) will not be eligible. It's only devices "Launched" after Feb 1, 2015. Except for the bastard iPhones. They will get DSU, from the 5c onward.
Correct, International is always a "freebie" when you request it but won't make a difference in the US. If you're not paid off on your contract or haven't paid the ETF is it applies to you they won't unlock it.
