[Q] Completely FUBAR please help - Fascinate General

ok, let me just say that I am a complete newb and I attempted to do things beyond what I should have been doing.
I have a samsung fascinate that I've had for about 2 months. Until today I have been prety conservative. I rooted on day 2, but all I did was remove all of the crap and run launcher pro as default UI.
Today I got the bright idea to add a custom rom and put on a voodoo kernel.
After realizing that I'd completely screwed up my phone I attempted to use ODIN to restore to stock. I was able to do so, but none of the apps were working correctly. I read on a forum that in order to fix the problem, I needed to follow a guide to completely rid my phone of voodoo. unfortunately in following that guide I ended up in a loop that will not let me get out of the android system recovery.
At one point I was able to load CWM, but I am no longer able to access those systems. I can give more details, but I am not sure what else to add right now.
Does anyone have any ideas?

well I know, no one responded, but I ended up solving the issue.

[Q] Couple Issues, Couple Questions

Okay - I have a rooted Epic with no DI18 update. I tried to update and it gives me an error because I deleted the Sprint bloatware.
I want to manually update my phone to DI18 but I have a couple issues, and questions.
Issues: I can't get my laptop to even recognize my Epic. On my wife's laptop, it sees the Epic but can't install a driver. Every time I try to install a driver, it stops at the beginning of the install and errors out. (Win 7 64 bit on both machines). I have tried with usb debugging on and off. I rooted my phone on my laptop, so I don't have any clue why it won't talk to my phone now. Sprint is calling me to finish up the ticket I placed for the slow upload speed this afternoon, so I need to get DI18 on the phone a.s.a.p.
Questions: I don't care about losing anything else on the phone, but I have scored over 300,000,000 points on Robo Defense and I don't want to lose that progress. How can I save the progress (game save I guess) in that game. Other than that, I don't mind completely wiping the phone and starting over. Rooting is such a beating because it takes you out of the update loop. That's very annoying. But so is all the crap-ware that Sprint has on the phone. Is there any way to root/delete apps, and still get future OTA updates? I don't want to go through this mess every time an update releases. Which, since it is Spring and Samsung, doesn't seem like it will be very often
Any help would be appreciated. I am triple noob to Android, but I am not computer illiterate, I actually work in I.T. I get frustrated when I go into a thread about an updated kernel or rom and the instructions (lack of usually) include terms that I simply don't get. Like 'push the apk back' and stuff like that. What!?! Sorry for my noobish ways!
First, install Titanium Backup, backup both the app and data from Robo Defense. This way, you wont lose it, will just have to make sure you root again and reinstall Titanium Backup to restore it.
To restore to stock, go to the thread listed below and follow the instructions. This will allow you to flash directly to stock DI18 (wont need to update to it afterwards). Just make sure that instead of using the DG27 version linked in that thread, that you download the DI18 one from the second link below, and use that instead. As a side note, I would play it safe and pull the sd card out before doing this, while it may be unecessary, it made me feel a little better when I went and did this to my phone.

Koadic, thanks so much for spending a bit of time and walking me through it.
I flashed back to stock with full wipe and immediately was prompted to download and install an update. A few minutes later, another one. I am now up to date on the updates.
I can't stand the bloatware on the phone, but I also can't stand being out of the loop on updates.
The main issue I had in the beginning was that I didn't think my PC was seeing my Epic. After my wife got hers and I connected it to my PC, it installed drivers and then mine started working and I was able to run Odin and get to stock.
Thanks again man, very helpful!!!

whoops....I screwed it up........could you help me?

Well, I purchased my epic 4g on launch day. I have had a blast with it but it did get pretty mundane for me very quickly. This is were I began searching for cool things to do to the phone to fit me and my lifestyle. I rooted it and installed an overclock kernal. Anyway, my problem is i believe that I have "bricked my phone". I was searching for ways to enable wifi tethering. I came across some other kernals, and began the process of returning phone back to factory specs and install the kernal. It seemed to work fine until my phone began to freeze. It would freeze about 1-2 minutes of being turned on. I began to search and came across odin. Well apparantly I do not know how to work odin correctly, because now my phone only shows a cell phone...! (in orange yield sign)...PC. (cellphone ! PC). I would greatly appreciate anybody that is able to get me out of this bind. I do love and cherish my phone, now regretting me messing around with this. thanks
Can you get into download mode? Hold the 1 on the keyboard while powering on. If you can, you should still be able to flash back to a stock rom.
I am able to go into download mode. I am currently downloading the stock rom. how do you flash into clockwork? volume down, camera, and power button equals green text.
Hopefully this is what you need...
If you can get into download mode, you should be able to save your phone.
Just follow the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
It should fix your phone right up, I used it myself just this morning. I learned the hard way you have to be careful with custom ROMs
Also, why overclock it? It's already 1GHz, the fastest market processor in a phone. IMHO, overclocking a 1GHz is unnecessary and only wears out your hardware faster.
Phone is up and running. Now the problem that I have is that there is a circle with a line through it and i am unable to get online or make any calls.
sounds like you're missing a modem? You'll need to flash one.

Click to collapse
If you flashed the DI18 tar it includes the modem (god knows I've flashed this more time's I'd like to admit)...
What did you flash in ODIN exactly? Can you tell us step by step what you did?
I'd like to hear the step-by-step too. I followed all the steps to the letter in that thread I linked to, and have had no problems with my phone since.
Clarification...
When you followed the steps in the thread I linked, did you use the stock kernel, or the other one that wipes everything?
After I pseudo-bricked my Epic, only the one that wipes everything worked.

[Q] Why does this seem so confuzzling?

Maybe I simply lucked out, but I never seemed to have issues with the captivate. Installing and upgrading roms seems so much more difficult on the streak than on the captivate. Can anyone help me out figuring where I went wrong? (aside from the obvious mistake of running QDL prior to understanding what was being installed).
Got my pretty new WHITE (saw somewhere that this was relevant) streak today, first and foremost thing I wanted to do was get rid of 1.6 for 2.2. QDLTools seemed to quickly and efficiently do that for me, with the exception that the camera button no longer works, and it doesn't do anything when I attempt to change my SMS ringtone.. I'm not entirely sure why but these two things drove me batty, so I decided to try flashing 1.5.1 hoping it would solve one or both of these issues. Flashed This clockwork recovery after rooting and flashing the baseband listed in the 1.5.1 release thread. Then I happily loaded clockwork recovery and loaded from .zip in CW recovery. Until this point it was not really any more difficult than captivate, just a few extra steps.
However after clicking reboot it simply goes into the dell logo loop. Trying to avoid being a complete fool, I looked around and tried to find others with the same issue. Lo and behold I found a handful...but I have to admit I'm suffering from an I D 10 T error and cannot for the life of me understand whats causing this or how to fix it. Is there anyone that might be willing and able to help me out? I'm honestly rather lost. Just for starters what version of Streakdroid gets loaded with QDLTools?
By fix this I mean successfully flash 1.5.1, I can recover from the loop by running QDLTools and I once again have a functioning streak on 2.2
*EDIT* An additional dumb question, but are there any roms for 2.2 that forego the live wallpapers for the 4x8 page layout? cuz the 4x8 layout and larger facebook widget and whatnot seemed pretty nifty. (Or a 2.1 rom that has mobile hotspot ability)
No idea what this QDLTool is so i can't help you with that i'm afraid.
And yes, it is somewhat more complicated on the streak than on phones such as the Nexus, but it's not too bad.
If you ever get stuck at a boot loop, just wipe, flash the stock recovery then flash a stock (official) ROM. That usually sorts everything out, then you can flash a custom recovery back and then flash whatever ROM you like.
Downgrading is a bit iffy on the streak, it's a little temperemental, but there are guides available.

thanks! saw that guide but overlooked it because i thought I was doing it all. apparently I was wrong, recovery wasn't actually finishing the loading of the rom.. not working yet because I get an assert failed error regarding boot.img anyone have an idea on this?

[Q] Accidentally killed stock recovery

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forums so if I am breaking any rule or regulation, just give me a heads up. So, some basic information about my predicament.
- own a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from Verizon.
- I use t-mobile network. Works great with no problems.
- phone was successfully rooted via towel root.
I was looking to get cynagenmod on the phone so I started looking up guides and such. Only thing I wasn't aware of was that carrier branded versions can't have their recovery flashed. That said, I used flashify and the clockwork apk. The app did its job, killed the stock recovery, but couldn't load the new one. Now the phone says error, no recovery when trying to access it during boot.
It should be said that the phone still boots and works normally but I really want to get the recovery working so I can at least try again the right way to get cynagenmod working.
My question is, is it possible to get my hands on the stock recovery for my phone and just flash it back to how it was? Basically, how do I fix this problem I put myself in. Of course, I didn't make backups. During the whole process, I figured "if I follow this tutorial word for word, why bother with backups?" look how wrong I was
Any help would be sincerely appreciated. I'm posting this from my replacement phone, not my note 3.

Help an Andriod beginner.

Hey guys,
I need help.
The story:
My girlfriend has a Galaxy S7 from Sprint, she loves her phone but hates the carrier's splash screen (I think that's what it's called). The animation at the startup of the phone.
She truly hates it.
I want to do something nice for her and remove that from her phone. I think it's possible, I know I can do it, I just need help with the steps.
Laugh and call me names if you want, I'm a iOS user, it works for me, I've always preferred it. My knowledge about Android is limited.
I'm not a complete rook, I've rooted an Android tablet before, I've reloaded a ROM after deleting a few things and bricking said tablet but that's as far as my handheld device tinkering experience goes.
PCs are my cup of tea, I know my way around them, I'm not a developer or anything, I just like messing around and fixing them.
Anyway, all I want are the right directions so I don't ruin her phone.
Do I have to root the device?
If so, what do I use to root said device?
Do I need to install a new ROM to get rid of the splash screen?
Where do I download a stock version (I'm assuming that's what I'd have to install) of her firmware?
If I need to root the device, after installing the stock OS, if I un-root it, will changes be lost?
I apologize if I'm not using the correct terminology, I'm just trying to get my point across as clear as possible.
If this was a PC, what I would do is a clean installation using a stock ISO, making my problem and all the OEM's bloatware disappear.
I'm looking for the equivalent of that, but for her phone.
If there is a better way, or what I'm asking is for some reason not possible please let me know.
Her phone:
Samsung Galaxy S7 930P
Nougat 7.0
P.S.: The reason I want to un-root it afterwards, is that from what I understand you can't use NFC payments if your device is rooted and she really likes doing that.
You can remove it/ change it in two ways.
1. Root it, and change the boot animation, and then unroot. I would not recommend this, as rooting this device is hard if you're unfamiliar with Android devices, plus you need to flash an engineering boot.img, which completely cripples this devices battery and performance.
2. Use the universal firmware for the Sprint device. It will change the boot animation to a screen which just says "Samsung" in white font against a black background till it boots. It looks clean and is un-intrusive, and will get rid of all the Sprint bloatware. I highly recommend using that over trying to root and change the boot animation on her device. It is quite simple to do as well, as all you need to do is download the firmware, (find it here: http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=48A2011F925C11E7963AFA163EE8F90B ) and unzip it, and flash it using ODIN (find it here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByoIewGd_qk2MEZMb0l3Qlo4ek0 ) . Good luck!
