Should I buy the the Tab 10.1 now or wait for Tegra 3?

I've been so set on getting the Tab 10.1 for a while. Tegra 3 sounds very appealing, though..

If you want a tablet now, get it. The vicious cycle of waiting for the best spec'd will never end. Why not purchase it now and enjoy it? Then when something newer comes out you could sell your Tab and pay the difference for the new one. Just think of the difference as a fee to have an interim tablet

I think you should wait for Tegra 4.

You have to jump on the merry-go-round at some point. You probably won’t see a Tegra 3/4 until the end of the year or next. Jump and be happy as there will always be something better on the horizon.

How dare you suggest it... Tegra 5 is just around the corner after Tegra 4...
Dude if you want it, get it. Sell it later to finance the price of the next one and think of the depreciated value of the Tab 10.1 as a rental fee. Easy-peasy.

Some Tegra 3 tablets probably will be available by the end of the year, though that could still mean up to 5 or 6 months away. However I still don't know if these tablets would be something I'd want to own.
Big reason I'm buying a Galaxy Tab 10.1 is because of it's design, light weight, comfortable ergonomics, PLS display, and good speakers. Such a tablet with a Tegra 3 may not even show up until 2012.
It's too unknown when a good Tegra 3 tablet would arrive. So I decided it is better to just buy a tablet now since I do want one now.

Yeah, because I am sure that the Tegra 3 processor won't fit on the current design of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Technology gets smaller with time, not the other way around. I guarantee you that by the time Tegra 3 is out, the dimensions of the GT will be the norm.
With that said, anyone that holds out for a device that doesn't have a release date is a moron. In this case, not only the device, but the technology itself doesn't have a release date. FAIL!

I don't believe Samsung will put a Tegra 3 in a Galaxy Tab 10.1. Instead I think Samsung will design a new tablet for the Tegra 3.
Look at the first Tegra 2 tablet, Viewsonic G-Tablet, great processor put into a low end tablet, took months for it to show up in other tablets after that.
I would love to think that 5 or 6 months now everyone will be making super thin and light tablets. But many could be doing that already and they aren't. And I think that's the problem, we don't have a crystal ball to know for sure that someone will release a tablet in 2011 with a Tegra 3 and not be something low end with a crappy display like a Viewsonic G-Tablet.

I decided to get an iPad 2 while I wait for the next set of android tablets. Tegra 2s SOC is difficult to get around. If what your getting it for doesn't include HD video in the 720p range, your fine... I wanted:
ebook reader
web surfing
video player (720p mkv)
Everything else was just butter. I really like honeycombs interface... but the iPad does these basic things pretty well. I'll jump on the next gen tho.

I toyed around with the idea of getting an iPad 2 and just waiting on a Tegra 3/Ice Cream Sandwich tablet later.
I would love to watch 720p MKV files and my Netflix (god only knows when that's coming to the Galaxy Tab 10.1).
But as nice as the A5 is at handling video (though I did still read some complaints), it seems like that bonus is instantly negated by the 9.7 inch 4:3 ratio screen.

I'm not aware of any Tegra 3 devices that have any been officially announced, let alone coming out any time soon. I don't think Kal-El/Tegra 3 is even supposed to ship to manufacturers until August, and then there's no telling when a decent device packing Kal-El will show up. I'm not holding my breathe for a third gen Galaxy Tab (or suitable competitor) until the February, March, April time frame.
The ASUS eeePad Transformer 2 is rumored to have a projected launch of April 2012, so that's one to keep an eye out for. But that's just rumor and speculation.

This is exactly my rationale for going ahead. I figure that since I don't have a carrier contract to confuse things, when something enough better that I can't stand it comes along, I can always sell the 10.1 for probably half what I paid for it, and get the next thing. And hey, between now and then, I'll have this nifty tablet to play with!

Exactly my problem... one more thing confuses me though. Is 3G... as with or without is another decision to make. (I will read this thread in a moment: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127302)

Hopefully, when there will be more of them out there price of new will go down, but so of used ones. My only concern is - will I be able to cover up the difference in price?
So... my current (real life - because this is what is in my shops) choice is:
GT 10.1 with 3G
Transformer/Iconia - wifi only
iPad2
Some of you know I wish to watch movies on tablet (among other things).
This means all of the above are far of good (not to mention ideal).
GT10.1 looks great, feels awesome and (what may be a surprise for you) I really do like TouchWiz. I think it is better that original Honeycomb UI. Has 3G (i still have not decided if I need it... So far I have lived without it but only because I did not have it, no because I didnt wanted it .
But is more expensive, is missing some ports, no netflix - but HULU free works
Transformer/Iconia - cheaper than above, no 3G (not everyday but it may come useful once in a while - is it enough to pay so much extra? - still do not know). Dont looks and feel so great (I am actually going to see them in a shop toady). Have more I/O ports. Hulu for free will work and some movies from NAS drive - but no netflix :-(
iPad 2 - netflix works, hulu (free) no way :-(, movies do work with one of the players but I HATE iTUNES :-( - and it is as expensive as GT10.1
I hate Apple (and others) for reinventing a tablet. Back in Jan 2010 I was not thinking about tablet, not even considering "PC" with touch screen and I could spend my $1000 on something way more sensible than a tablet. Now.... I know I want one and because I have to make a choice that (whichever one I will make) will leave me a bit unhappy, I am even more unhappy. The same applies to a choice of not buying and waiting.
Feeling of frustration is terrible .

I went ahead and purchased the 10.1 I'm sure something better will be out, but for my needs at the moment, the 10.1 suits me just fine.
I basically want a tablet to browse the web and run a few apps while I'm not using my laptop. I still love my laptop, but it's somewhat on the heavy side for sitting on the sofa, watching tv, & surfing the net. It also runs hot & has fan noise I can't stand sometimes. With a tablet I can move around the house freely, surf the net, and not have to worry about fan noise. The 10.1 is said to be very light weight, which is a huge plus.

Now that the Note is coming to AT$T in a couple weeks, I've been doing some pretty serious window shopping. But, there's also the desire in the back of my head for the ever illusive S3. From those that have had the opportunity to use the Note, would you recommend the upgraded Note being released on the 19th or hold out S3 (with it's specs still in the rumor mill)?
My biggest draw to the Note is the fact that you can easily take notes right on it which is a plus for the office. One of my only worries is portability. Summers coming soon and the thought of carrying around a paperback novel (granted its only 40 pages thick) makes me nervous.
Please help sell me one way or another.

Ok first of all let me tell you that the phone is not an issue carrying around unless you are a fashion concious person. The phone will fit into major pockets except skinny jeans or any tight fitting clothing but if you carry a bag out then it won't be an issue. Any ways I think you should wait to buy the phone unless your in need of a new one quick. If not wait till the s3 comes out and see if you like it then great get that or else get the note and since you waited the note probably dropped in price
As for my opinions on the note, first I think the specs are fabulous, its pretty good enough for a phone in the year 2012 and I think it's gonna rock the boat when ics comes out. Before I bought the phone I did a specs comparison to the iPad 2 ( you know since this phone is targeted as a tablet phone and best tablet is iPad in my opinion) and the note turns out is more superior to the iPad 2 and at that moment I decided the note is my phone. Overall its a more than decent phone only thing is you might need to buy a memory card if your thinking like videos and music and games, I just bought a 16 gig card off Amazon for like I think less than 20 bucks (its original) and while I couldn't transfer my apps to the sd card I did move all my videos photos and music to the sd card freeing a few gigs.
Any ways it comes down to the owner's needs, I wanted a tablet and phone and then I saw someone showing of his phone at the subway taking pictures and stuff then I asked him and found out about the note, let me say this is not a replacement of a tablet, its an alternative so there is a difference

The at&t Galaxy Note isnt a Galaxy Note. Its just a big skyrocket spec wise. Expect heavy choppiness and lag due to the weak snapdragon SoC.
I got my Intl Note about 3 months ago back when there was no news of the S3. I recommend waiting for the S3.
The S3 is most likely gonna feature the new 1.5ghz Exynos or a quad core Exynos.
Once the quad core phones come out you're gonna regret buying a dual core phone.

I don't get this obsession with people wanting faster and faster processor, I mean I remeber a time when I was about 10 years old people would buy phones based on their looks or price and now every one just wants specs even if the phones are ugly. I'm not implying the phones now a days are ugly but I'm just saying what's up with wanting a faster processor I mean its just 0.1 more than the note how much faster is it gonna be. I think the current speed on the note is fabulous and I think this phone is perfect if I had one complain it would be the lack of space and the keyboard SUCKS. Other than that its an awesome phone

The shift from single-core to dual-core is probably much larger than from dual-core to quad-core. This is because Android in general isn't even properly optimized for dual-core let alone quad-core. You'd probably need to wait for "Jellybean" again to get proper optimized changes that takes advantage of a quad-core SoC. What happens then? You're paying a premium price for the first "quad-core" phone that isn't even properly utilized until the next ANdroid update comes.
Never buy into bleeding tech, always get it around the 50 ~ 70% cycle mark. That's where you get the best longevity, utility, and price to performance ratio. =)

If you really like the idea of note taking, there's really no reason not to get a note.. Make a prototype out of cardboard if you want to check portability. It's bout twice a thick as cardboard.
Big screen, stylus - that's what you want. What would you trade that for, in the s3?

Something you cannot see, 2 additional cpu-cores.
I'm going to guess that the S3 is going to have a 4.65" display as well or at most 4.7". They're not going to cannibalize the Note for no apparent reason. On that grounds alone if screen size matters, it's pointless to wait for the S3. If anything, wait for the Note 2 in October.

As i think people and correct me if i am wrong, but the quadcores will not be quadcores but 2x dualcores on different speeds so you will have max battery from it with a improved speed. Lets say 2x500 and 2x1500(2000) the 2 high end cores will fire if they needed.

All of the things a smart phone is used for is improved by a larger screen except portability, so the largest screen that is comfortably mobile is best. The Note is narrow enough to fit almost any pocket but is uncomfortable in trousers/jeans pockets and an alternative such as a deep shirt pocket or jacket pockets is needed. If you can live with that then get the Note for it will give you the best experience.

I think it's silly to suggest waiting nine months for the purpose of buying something with longevity. That's nearly half of a phone's lifecycle assuming you get a new phone every two years. This phone isn't even out in the US yet!
My advice: go buy your Note and enjoy it. There's no sense in waiting for a product that hasn't been announced, and something better is always around the corner. The best we can do is try to get something that's future-proof and enjoy it, and since the Note is one of the highest-end phones available today and Samsung has announced ICS for the it by the end of Q1, I think it's a smart choice.

Quick question, will the unlocked version of the gnote work on att's lte network?

I787. Sorry to burst some bubbles, but a 1.5 dual core snapdragon is not going to be noticeably inferior to the exynos. Plus, the snapdragons are compatible with the LTE network unlike the exynos chipset which gives the major advantage to the I787 in network speed.

If you watch/use flash content you absolutely need the power. My Note SMOKES my Transformer tablet with flash. The Note is silky smooth with no freezing while flash on the Transformer is a jerky freezing mess.
No way would I give up the Notes Exynos processor. It flies.

I really urge you to reconsider. You're basically buying a big Skyrocket if you get that. Even if the speed difference is negligible to you, dev support will be way lower for a Snapdragon chip.

Go read reviews from people who traded their OG SGSII's for Skyrockets.
I personally went to go check out the skyrocket on release day and there was so much lag compared to the OG SGSII model.
But, the snapdragon barely keeps the skyrocket running, the note is a lot bigger, so it requires more processor power, something that the snapdragon can't give

I agree partially with this statement. I have both the Note and Skyrocket now and had the SGS2 as well.
In terms of day to day speed SGS2 > Skyrocket > Note
The Note isn't slow, but imagine the difference in pixels it's pushing. I can't imagine the ATT Note on that snapdragon (which in all reality is not that bad, just not an exynos)

I actually was lucky enough to be in the right spot at he right time today and place the AT&T Note in my hands. Was at my local company store today dropping off a freshly rooted and cleaned SGS2 to an aquatintance there and joking asked if he has a store unit yet. To my surprise he said "Yup" and walked over to a corporate guy who was there on business who happened to be carrying one.
Contrary to speculations...even in it's stock and bloated form, it was VERY responsive. I noticed next to no lag and can only imagine what the thing can do when overclocked. Every web page I went to, opened pretty much at desktop speeds and jumping from app to app was fluid and seemless.
Now am I gonna be listening to Pandora, watching Netflix, tethering 4 devices and setting up a Webex? Probably not. I actually have to work while at work and my daughter gets my home time. PDF's, business uses, and making calls.... that about sums it up these days.

Does a 7.7 make sense when a flood of new Tegra3 tablets will be out very soon?

Firstly, I know there is always "something new around the corner"... however i've been in the tech game a long time and as such I generally know how to read the ebbs and tides of generation technology pretty well when making new purchases. For me, if the current generation has been out for a year or so, and a new generation of technology is within a couple months away, then I will usually hold off buying until the new tech arrives. To me, it doesn't make sense buying something tagged as a premium piece of technology, that I know through staying as well-informed as I can be, will be superceded within such a short time.
However, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is posing something of a dilemma in this regard.
In the favour of Tegra3, it is faster in gaming and general usage than the Exynos, to varying degrees based on what you are using it for (ie: while for general usage like 2D and browsing not so much and probably not nooticeable, for 3D-intensive gaming there will be quite a big difference). While the performance increases overall may not be absolutely stellar, for example the Exynos is still a beast and will play high bit-rate 1080p content smoothly, they are still there, and the Tegra3 will likely also usher in a new generation of games and graphical content. It will also come with ICS as standard.
In the favour of the Samsung 7.7 and Exynos, as I said it WILL play high bitrate HD content smoothly, and has the Super AMOLED+ screen, which is 100% unique in the tablet market as opposed to everyone elses mainstream IPS tech. However, it also seems to still have some issues resulting in burn-in and some quality defects which are common to SAMOLED+ technology, but I guess more noticeable in this size range. It also ships with Honeycomb, which is a little disappointing at this stage.
My dilemma is, with the new generation of Tegra 3-based ICS tablets due within the next couple of months, and possibly the new Exynos chipset due shortly after that, does it still make sense to buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 at this point? If I had been facing this decision 4 months ago then the answer would have been an unequivolcal and resounding HELL YES, however with the heavy delay this tablet was subjected to it is now facing big competition from very well-specified and featured tablets, due within the next 2 months, that are also in many cases going to fall well under the price range that this tablet has been placed in.
So, do you think that objectively speaking, and without bias, that the Galaxy Tab 7.7 with it's unique (if not unproblematic) Super AMOLED+ screen and first-generation Exynos chipset still represents a worthy purchase at this stage in the game and at the price-point it has been set at?

The delay certainly makes the decision difficult at this point, I really love the 7.7 but I think if you can wait the ASUS 7inch model for $250 with a Tegra III inside is the better bet (or as you say one of the updated Exynos tabs).
Interestingly the Mali doesn't seem that far adrift of the Tegra III GPU on ICS, at least as far as benchmarks can tell us. On my Note for example I get 44fps in Nenamark 2, and my Prime gets 45. So as far as the Tegra III being superior I don't know how much the difference really is, and whether it'll actually make a lot of difference to the end user for most purposes.

Got mine for £420 from Hong Kong (16GB with 3g) after a similar bout of agonising and I'm extremely happy with it. Even if newer models come out in the next couple of months tests have shown that the quad core chips don't make a huge difference for most apps because they haven't been written to take advantage of them. The 7.7 is gorgeous now. It's plenty fast enough with great build quality, a fantastic screen, good battery life, fits into my jacket pocket and is so light I have to keep checking that it's still there.
If HD gaming is your thing then it might be worth waiting as games will be the first apps to take advantage of the extra speed. I decided to take the plunge now and upgrade in a year when the apps have caught up with the hardware.
Compared to my original galaxy tab this is a whole different ball game.

Ok welllllll... I just kind of went out and bought one (3G version). Setting it up now, screen looks awesome so far... but will see how things go over the next hour or two.

it all boils down to personal preferences, I bought my SGT P1000 before when the release for 7.7 got postponed (thanks Apple!) I was eyeing for the 7.7 back then. but now that it's out, I grab one amidst the negative feedback on the screen, I'm currently enjoying it and the defects is not noticeable under the way I use it. so far so good.
well, those tegra II's or quadcores will be rendered obsolete as well several months after its release. so it's better to settle on a device that will suit your needs. no need to upgrade all the time just to cope up. Remember that honeycomb and ICS are already there, still, most of the apps are only compatible with the old gingerbread.

I have just ordered a 7.7 and also thought about waiting for this year's crop of new tablets. However, the 7.7 has a very fast processor with plenty of storage, an excellent screen, soon to get ICS and does all the things I want very well.
In the short term it is unlikely to be out-performed significantly and when it is, perhaps in a year or two's time then that is the time to upgrade.

Got my first tab and i am loving it! rather than keep waiting, might as well get 1 and play now!

it all boils down to personal preferences, I bought my SGT P1000 before when the release for 7.7 got postponed (thanks Apple!) I was eyeing for the 7.7 back then. but now that it's out, I grab one amidst the negative feedback on the screen, I'm currently enjoying it and the defects is not noticeable under the way I use it. so far so good.
well, those tegra II's or quadcores will be rendered obsolete as well several months after its release. so it's better to settle on a device that will suit your needs. no need to upgrade all the time just to cope up. Remember that honeycomb and ICS are already there, still, most of the apps are only compatible with the old gingerbread.

Don't forget Android 5.0 Jelly Bean, to be released and compete with Windows 8...

The Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 is the best 7 range tablet period. It has 3g talk/text function so its its not just a tablet. If the functionality is what you want and not just wifi..then 7.7 is best of the best. I am loving the 7.7 !!!

That's what Root and Chainfire 3D are for!

a true merger indeed, I don't have to carry two, or three devices literally, I love my tab, it's like taking my laptop with me everywhere I go, I can call whenever I want and receive SMS as well, that's the main selling point for me to grab Samsung made tablets, next is the 3g browsing (we have a promo in our country wherein Facebook is free on my service provider ). Haven't tried the USB On-the-Go yet, still need to find a blueprint so I can make my own adapter
Camera? not that great in the sea of 8MP+ snappers but not that bad either, serves t's purpose well
Video call via Skype ~ flawless!!
Gaming? Bought and Installed Modern Combat III, Superb!! smooth as silk!
lastly, the SAMOLED+ screen! Love it, I just love it.. !
the only thing I hate about this is that I can't stop using it! lol

I love my 7.7, best tablet on the market in my opinion!
I have rooted and installed Chainfire 3D so gaming is outstanding!!!!!!
Suits all of my needs and with ICS coming soon it will be hard to beat.

yeah I have Chainfire3d on mine - still won't run the Zen pinball and other games. I'm interested to hear from other users that are running the tegra games as to which ones in case I'm doing something wrong.

Forget Tegra 3. Did you see the specs on the Snapdragon S4? Now that looks like a game changer.

what change? any link? i once read that s4 will use adreno 225, which is not that good and only comparable up to exynos' mali (which is the same with tab 7.7)
tegra 3 is still better
unless like the article said it came with adreno 300 that supposedly on par with playstation 3 / xbox

Taking Back And Waiting A Month.

Since they just announced the pre-order and release date for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 I decided to take my regular 10.1 back, since i'm still within my 30 day return period.
Really excited for the new one with all the upgrades. Having a SD card slot, 2 speakers on the front of the Tab and adding IR so I can control my home theater components, and getting official ICS on it. I can't wait.
Pre-order May 7th, release date on the 22nd.

It's actually a downgrade, not an upgrade. It's thicker and heavier which means that either the components were changed or the design has been changed to make it cheaper to build. There's no flash on the camera either. It's got an OMAP chip vs. Teg2 so it's pretty much a lateral move but I'm sure the OMAP will be better at local video playback (anything would). The SD card's a benefit but ICS is a wash since the orignal G-Tab will get it (eventually) too. The 8GB is supposed to be $399 while the 16GB will be $449 so it's still no bargain.

That's what I'm waiting for. I love my 3G Tab and the only thing that (for me) needs improvement is a more powerful processor. For taking notes and such at work the S-Pen's also a cool and practical feature. It's been delayed until June so Samsung can put a new quad-core Exynos SoC in and I'm hoping they bump up the display resolution while they're at it.

I'm in a similar predicament. I want to get the Galaxy tab but now with Tab 2 launching i'm not sure if it's a wise decision. I feel like I will have buyers remorse if I buy the Galaxy tab 2 just because it has older components and a step backwards. Galaxy Note 10.1 won't arrive till June if its not pushed back (high possibility of delays). The Transformer Prime was another Tablet I was looking at but with the wifi and gps issues not too sure about Asus. So now sadly, I may look at the new iPad. Anyone else have any other suggestions?

You can pre-order both the Acer A510 and new non-Prime Transformer (TF300) that has a plastic back cover and shouldn't have wireless issues. They're $449 and $399 respectively with the Acer being the more upscale of the two. Asus' build quality and QC have been sketchy and I haven't really followed Acer to offer any opinion. Costco's got some good deals on the G-Tab 1 and a ninety day return policy which should fall in to the launch timeframe for the Note.

Yeah in a lot of ways, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a DOWNGRADE over the original GT 10.1. The SD card slot is nice, but when you think about it, you can just get a 32 GB Tab 10.1 and be fine. I like the new placement of the speakers, but that's about it. Front facing camera is only VGA. No flash for the rear camera. Thicker and cheaper build quality. Same PLS screen, same res, same processor speed. The original 10.1 with the Tegra 2 would be better for gaming, while the OMAP should be better for HD vid watching. Although I have to say, if you encode a 720p file properly, it looks great on the Tab and plays really well. You don't need to play 1080p on these things.
If I didn't have a tablet right now and was looking to invest 400 dollars for a high-end one, I would honestly wait a few months. I'd wait either for the upgraded Transformer Prime with the higher res. screen and no GPS/WiFI issues, the Acer, the Galaxy Note 10.1, or even whatever quadcore Exynos Tab Samsung is working on at the moment.
Besides all of that, cheaper 7 inch Tegra 3 tablets are coming soon. Now is not a good time to be tablet shopping.

When I looked at the size and weight, and it was almost the same. From what I've read it's the same height and width, only 3 or 4 more ounces. Not a dramatic difference in weight. Hopefully, they kept the same shape and dimensions
so it will fit in my Galaxy Tab Book Cover Case.
I know there was no real upgrade in terms of specs, but, the additions they did make was huge to me. Adding ICS, something the previous Tab will probably not get, and if it does, it will be several months away. I had a ICS rom on mine and it was nice, but, lacking in some areas of true ICS. I like the speakers on the front at the top and bottom better than on the sides. It should make a huge difference when watching movies or listening to music. You can thank the German courts for this and Apple. Throw in the fact they added a space for SD card storage to expand, IR capabilities, will be great controlling my Home Theater components and it's a winner to me at the $399 price tag.

Sadly, I think you are right. I will have to be patient and wait and see what happens next. I guess with Google IO coming up soon the emphasis will be completely on JellyBean and ICS will be obsolete already by the time summer comes around.

The original Tab 10.1 is getting ICS. Samsung have confirmed it at several different points in time. WHEN will we get it, that's another story, but it's coming. It's being worked on. They even said that it was number 2 on the their priority list, right behind the GS II which has already started it's ICS rollout globally. It can't be that far away
So if you factor out ICS as an advantage (which you should), the only two things the Tab 2 has over the Tab 1 are the modified speaker positions and debatably the microSD storage (I say that because the storage sizes are halved on the Tab 2). Everything else that's different on the Tab 2 is a disadvantage.
Sorry to say, but it's the truth. And that 399 price point doesn't make it any easier to swallow, especially when you consider that if you can be patient for another couple of months, you'll have a huge selection of Tegra 3 tablets at all different sizes, all different price points, made by different companies.
Believe me, I'm not hating here. I got my Tab 10.1 last July and I absolutely love it. But right now, if 300 or 400 is my sweet spot for a tablet, I'm holding off for a couple of months. The Tab 2 isn't worth that.

screw this..selling it and getting the asus prime

I would also hold off for the note 10.1... Better hardware AND the s-pen will give it functionality that no other tab has. I have tried the regular note (5.3) and the pen works very well, very cool to jot down stuff quickly or to add comments/notes to documents.

Now they are saying they halted production of the Tab 2 for some upgrades. One of them being a quad core processor with their latest chip.

I read that also... it definitely has me wondering if this will delay us OG Tab owners from getting the ICS update in May. I have no doubt that the appeal of ICS is a selling point for Samsung and potential Tab-2 customers might settle for the original tab if it gets ICS prior to the release of the Tab-2.

So, with all of the fuss around the Galaxy S3, potentially a new iPhone and other quad-core phones bustling out onto the market, I have had one or two people ask me as to whether or not I regret purchasing a Galaxy Note considering that it only features a dual-core processor and may not even get Jelly Bean unlike S3 which is almost guaranteed to. So, do you regret purchasing the Note and wished you'd gotten an S3/other device instead or not? I, personally, love my Galaxy Note. I couldn't afford both a tablet and phone, so this fills that gap perfectly. The S3 has admittedly got better processing power, but the Note is still the only phone which has true 1080P resolution screen (as far as I am aware).

Not a bit. I came from a SGS2, and haven't looked back. And what's this rubbish about not getting JB? We'll have JB quite soon; have you seen the news about CM10?
Note is not 1080p (1920x1080), it's 1280x800, which is still great. It has a higher pixel density than the iPad3.

If I had known 'bout the emmc brick bug, I may have bought a nexus.

Fast, beautiful screen and great size. I actually wouldn't mind a bit bigger. I hope they don't muck up version 2 too much.

My only regret on the Note is the EMMC bug. I mean, what the heck! we paid the phone more than 700usd when it was released and we get a bug in the official firmware that can brick this expensive phone for good!! This is completely unacceptable....but I will still get the Note 2 just because of the large screen!

The Note can be compared ONLY to another Galaxy Note, which does not exist.

Don´t regret it one bit,all this rubbish that its to big and won´t fit in your pocket is just bul***it,had it in ever paar of jeans I own with no probs.Used to own a HTC HD2(r.i.p:cryingwhen that came out it was the biggest phone on the market at that time and now.....its standard with the size and now when I get a phone that size I think...hmmm...a bit small Software,ok a few problems to begin with but now with 4.0.4,TOP :good: Played with an S3 for a while but it didn´t turn me on a bit were as with the Note...100% pure sex

I never have a problem putting it into my pockets (normal fitting jeans) and sometimes carry 2 phones in the same pocket at the same time (Note plus either the Epic 4G/Nexus S 4G).
LOVE my Note. I've been owning it for over 4 months now and it still runs just as good as the day I bought it and I'm still on GB (stock but rooted). Heck it has been so good even while stock, I still run TW launcher! I also own a Nexus S 4G and Epic 4G (on Sprint, work phones) and I still default to my Note for just about anything that I don't do on my laptop. I also own an HP Touchpad (bought during the firesale has WebOS and CM on it) and ever since I've had the Note, I rarely use it, now mainly my kids play with it. The Note truly is the best all-in-one device. The only thing is the eMMC bug which I've hesitated updating to ICS, but even on GB it does everything I need it to do. If/when Sprint carries the Note 2, then I'll upgrade then. Heck I am already upgrade eligible on Sprint, but rumors of a Note 2 announcement on August 30 is making me sit on my upgrade until a Note 2 is released on Sprint.

Nope. Best device I've ever owned.
Never going back to CDMA, either. Love the flexibility GSM affords me.

You kind of had to know before hand that purchasing this would be outdated slightly since the s3 was due out for five months down the line. Plus Samsung treats the galaxy note line as if it were a [email protected]@rd orphan child that gets it hand me down.
It's a bigger phone so give me better specs dammit.
The firmware update mishaps , crappy battery ... need I say more?
It would be hilarious if the owners of xda launched a public service announcement national commercial listing evening wrong with the galaxy note.

.... If I were to change the note.... Longer battery life, maybe, more accurate pen in horizontal position, camera button, less mega pixel camera with bigger photo receptors, pen out light, more ram, and steel case to attach a chain to it so people can't ever steal my awesome awesome phone/star trek Data pad.
I'm future proof until 3d ar glasses come out.

Not even for a second, quad core phones are useless really, im glad things are moving forward and eventually quadcore will be utilized, but the only thing that could possible use al that processing power on phones is games, and there isn't asingle game out there tha exclusively for the power of quadcore, all the high spec games run fine on dualcore phones. So im not in any rush to upgrade ill upgrade after 12 months of having the note which is december. Hopefully the note 2 :-D

I won't be upgrading the Note till mid-2013 roughly, but I love my Note too so no worries.

Yes I do, for the simple reason that as soon as I went an bought mine, Samsung announced its successor, thereby making me spend more on the older model than I need have, and preventing me from buying the new one as soon as it comes out.:crying:
But then that's just how my luck runs.
C'est la vie....

I bought the note three weeks ago, so way after the s3 announcement. Had the s2 up to then. Made the choice because the s3 does not feel or look so nice (imo) and does not feel like a decent upgrade (don't get me wrong I do think it's the best phone out there, just not a huge upgrade to the s2).
The Note feels like a true upgrade, despite being basically the same specs, because screeeeeeen

I bought it since over 7 months now was my first android handset,but still did not grow on me this is at best one laggy OS most probably will get the next iphone but will surely miss both the big screen and the Flash support in the browser.However it was a very interesting experience.
