I'm kinda surprised at our lack of Bootable gingerbread beta - G2 and Desire Z General

Hey yall! not to rush the developers, but I'm kinda surprised we don't even have a semi-working flashable ROM. ****, even the Cliq has a booting Rom...
any developers currently working on this? I know CM has had it boot on his Vision.

I'm sure we'll be the first to have a decent one. I know I don't want to flash a half working rom. CM won't let us down.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

A lot of the ROMs on the other devices were based off of the SDK. The source was just released a couple of days ago so just be patient. I managed to get CM Gingerbread source up (with satellite internet =/ ) and boot from it, but... lets just say it boots. Thats it.

Hey all. Been a while since my last release of anything, which was sense based, but I really wanted to start learning android and have a better perspective of it. I decided to dig a bit more into compiling android. Started horsing around with github and learned to start compiling my own builds from aosp wih the help from cmsrc, evervolv, and a few others githubs. Since the release of gingerbread to aosp, i moved away from sense. There are things that i do miss about sense, but the usability of the phone without it is just unmatched imho. Many people use or have used cyanogenmod. IMHO is a great open source project that has some of the best devs out there. I have always been more into the 'vanilla' look opposed to the themed and aftermarket. Recently i have been compiling gingerbread for the evo and mt4g and have had nothing but the best reviews. Basically the reason why i am here. Wondering if there was any interest in a few of my builds. Main reason from moving away from CM6/7 (cyanogenmod), ADW launcher and the extra added bloat(sorry) and themes. Battery life will always be one of my main concerns. Everything should work!

1.3 build is based off 2.3.7. (Thanks cm team) and cm kernel 2.6.35.7 (thanks cm team).
1.2.1 build is based off 2.3.4. (Thanks cm team) and cm kernel 2.6.35.7 (thanks cm team).

Using Gingerbread as a base presumably?
Given the amount of "non-standard" hardware in the SGS2, you'll need support libs from either an existing non-AOSP OEM firmware, or from CM7 won't you?
great.. i hope u will port in a bunch of days

Lol no he can't. There isn't a FULL system dump of the Galaxy Nexus yet. There is only the dump from the SDK. He will probably theme it like Ice Cream Sandwich. Anyways good luck to the dev
source is the power, says cyanogen. wont this be useless when the sources are released? wont this feel like wasting cuz when sources is released, other devs will easily make those ICS roms, instead of porting it.
well anyway good luck to the dev!

That's not the point. Of course, a dump would be a lot better. But being the first to port and get a working SDK rom... Now that's where the fun is
It is possible, we have the full SDK ROM.

I for one don't see this working as every device seems to be getting the same LibC error at the moment (except for some reason the G2).
The best hope seems to be getting a HC rom to work then using the boot.img from that to boot the ICS sdk port. (this is what we believe happened with the G2 to get it to boot)
I would be satisfied with the new gmail application including widget
Cheers!
Looking to try .Hope you have a great ICS.

Onskreen cornerstone for true multitasking

I've just seen the news about onskreen going multitasking,,,,,,went to download,,,,,,,,,,,but really I don't know what to download and how to use it on my TF101G
As far as i know:
Cornerstone is no app as you understand it. It is something like a "launcher".
The problem is that cornerstone has to be integrated into the os by the manufacturer himself because it has to be integrated deeply into the os.
So you won't see cornerstone on tablets unless a manufacturer decides to implement it.
Or someone takes the AOSP code from google and releases a complete rom. But i think that would be a lot of work. I don't think that someone would do this. It would be awesome to see this im cyanogenmod^^. I mean both are open source now.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I think I saw someone with a Xoom that has it.. (from Reddit). It would be awesome if we got it too.. I need to learn to make roms in my spare time.
it has to be baked into the rom its not a apk u run
I would love to try this too !
The "simple" way would be to get source from a rom, to integrate it and build the rom. But the integration step is unfortunatly not simply I think :/
Integrating difficulties is just one of the problems... for example Cornerstone requires ICS.. which we don't have.

First ICS has to come out. Then we will gather our forces, go on our knees and humbly ask any dev to face the challenge and coock rom with Onskreen integrated. It will not be soon, but someday ... Hope never dies...
Since it's under the ASL, I hope that it's included into the official CM9 for the Transformer. If it is not, I'm sure that there will be unofficial CM9 roms with it. Now, Asus, release the ICS update for the Transformer we need the kernel sources and drivers...

^^ what he said but the expand on that we need a rom that is fully deodexed or one that has a full source code available so that it can be baked in without signature errors + we need a apk dev and a rom dev (Or one that can do both) to put it all together

[DEV][WIP] Port Htc Sense 4.0A (booting!)(no fcś)

Hi all,
As the topic name says: i and a few other people are working on a htc sense 4.0A port (the light version).
Progress so far: NONE!
What do we need to do:
porting a sense 4.0 rom (from desire hd)
MAYBE a kernel (but AOSP kernel should work)
decrease the zip file.
will update this later..
progress: It is fully booting now, with massive fc's
also reserved..
last one.
Reserved I'd love to test and promote with like videos and such. Pm me if your interested or want me to remove this. Also I am 100% supportive of this.

Its been a while since there has been news worthy development on the Play
Your idea seems pretty solid, and I don't see why it shouldn't boot. Good luck! If you need any help with a CDMA port, I am willing to help.
I was going to attempt this myself but I was still looking for a worthy/compatible base. Maybe I can be some help to you even though I am just beginning and very new to this. Just let me know I still will try my own very soon as I need to learn.

I'm giving this a retry in the morning. Got the Galaxy S2 CM7 update but when it came to unpacking the kernel for the Plays CM7, Cygwin Bash Shell threw me an error message. I gave flashing it a shot but CWM gave me an error with the words "Samsung Galaxy" in them. At least it looks like the system is recognizing the script changes.
I'll try tomorrow with a stock Play firmware. If I make any progress i.e something that boots and works, I'll post it up here and start working on other ROMs
Can't get the boot.img to flash properly...
"fastboot flash boot boot.img" works but "fastboot boot boot.img" says the image is the wrong format

So if AOSP kernel works, does that mean locked Verizon users can use it? Since the Xperia Play Verizon model uses pure Vanilla Android?

No, because sense 4.0 uses android 4.0 and therefore you need an ics kernel

Funny thing is, this porting method isn't as hard as it seems.
The only bit giving me issues is editing the scripts.
I'm going to have a scan around and check to see if any more devs want to help. I'm trying to port the Galaxy S2 CM7 rom over and Nickholtus is trying Sense. I'm going to look over the script for some Motorola devices and see if they would be easier

I forked CyanogenMod's CM10.2 crespo4g repo, and added a couple changes to update storage for KitKat, but most of the device specific stuff draws from the crespo tree, which is already at version 11.0 in CM's sources. I'm gonna try to start a build right now. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'll also open a thread in the ns4g dev section as soon as I can.
If anyone wants to contribute code/tips/general know-how to this project it would be greatly appreciated. Also since I'm working from the 10.2 codebase, I expect the WiMax issue to carry over. That's something I'm willing to work on when I get it booting.
I also tried a dirty port from this discontinued crespo rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526740. It just bootloops.

My thoughts would be to edit the bootclass path in the kernel from the nexus s ROM to work for the nexus s 4g, as well as whatever else code is important in the kernel, then get it booting since in order to dirty port a ns ROM to the ns4g all you have to do is swap kernels and then you'll have basic functionality, but that's my two cents, I could be missing something important idk

Just installed adityaxavier's unofficial CM11. Everything is working, including WiFi to 3G switchover (which wouldn't work in any CM10.2 build or Slimbean 4.3 build).
Wimax 4g is not yet working, but that is a minor issue for most.
I hope the Nexus S 4G development won't die out any time soon. This NS4G is my first smartphone, and I use it as a wifi only device. It was a friend's old phone, donated to me. I also have an original Motorola Droid (also from another friend's old phone stash), which I rooted and modded with custom ROMs and stuff. The Droid is now my little brother's first smartphone (also wifi-only). It's been a great learning experience, AND we get useful devices to use too! It's why I love it here at XDA so much.
NOT Dead! Because I found a few "newer", great ROMs to try out still. ROMs I tried and thoughts:
- adityxavier's unofficial CM 11, build 11 --> great, fast, smooth; but I get those errors prompts saying "process com.phone.android stopped working" after boot up. I tried a clean install, as well as a dirty install after factory reset. Still getting those errors.
- jc4gavejc's AOSP 4.4 for Nexus S 4G --> same as above, but also very simplistic, lean, and clean-looking, which I loved. I would've kept this ROM if not for the same error prompts "process com.phone.android stopped working"; or "process com.messaging.android stopped working". I'm beginning to think my phone can't handle 4.4 builds somehow.
- Slim Bean 4.3 --->fast, smooth, stable, minimalistic-looking, with none of the extra features that I'd likely not use anyways. I'm using it now as my stable ROM until I see a working android 4.4 that I can try out again.
- Helly Bean 4.3 -->Also a fast and stable ROM on my crespo4g device. Lots of extra features from Paranoid Android, which I don't really use. My stock battery charging animation disappears with this one. It seems to power on during charging, even after I turn it off.
- Official CM 10.2 --> easiest to install b/c of the cminstaller, but noticeably slower than the above custom ROMs.
Once I have enough posts, and clearance to do so, I'll post these comments, with more details, in their appropriate threads, to help give feedback on the ROMs I tried. Thanks to all the developers that spent time and efforts on these!
