[Q] Titanium Backup Restore

Ok here goes. I hope this is the right place or close to it. I have a Droid X with Android 2.2 on Verizon. I rooted using z4Root and then I made a complete backup with Titanium Backup of all apps and data. I haven't messed with any custom ROMs yet. I have just rooted and backed up. I saw today where there is a bad spot on the screen and I will probably get a new Droid X. With what I have done so far, can I just take the SD Card from my 1st X and restore the new one to just like the old one using Titanium Backup and restoring from it? Do I root the new phone first? How do I go about this? Thank you for your time.

Yeah just root and install titanium backup on your new phone then restore using the batch restore option and you should be good to go.

No worries, I usually let google sync download all the apps off the market then just use titanium backup for the app data. The apps will start downloading right after you put in your google account info. It will take a bit if you have a bunch of apps, just open the market and go to my apps and you'll see them all downloading.

after I installed the rom, I can not do backup restore with titanium. my help

Titanium Backup or Backup & Restore via google?

I just want to get an idea of what the general consensus is and what people use. I've heard some stories that if you use the Backup & Restore that you can enable/disable from within privacy settings that there might be some problems with the rom you're using acting up weird and stuff. Granted, it doesnt restore all your preferences and settings but it's not the end of the world for me to setup a few things by myself, and it automatically downloads the latest versions of the apps where as titanium backup restores the version you had installed?
What do you use, have used? Any experiences?

I use AppMonster Pro... Backs up in the background as soon as any app is updated or installed. Plus it gives you the option to backup market links or the APK's... Great app.

I just use google as I dont have alot to back up and worry about losing at this point.

Flashing a rom - saving everything.....

Ok so I'm planning on flashing a rom for the first time. I was just wondering if after running a full backup using Titatnium, if that saves all of the texts messages that I have right now? If it doesn't, is there a way to go about getting that done?

If you want to save your text messages, I recommend using mybackup pro (the free version will not let you restore data). If you can't pay for it, look up Applanet

First off, Jmoney47, please do not recommend that another user on here use Applanet. Warez and the like are not supported by XDA. Apps such as applanet are the reason there are virus' and malware on Android devices. If you truly want a paid app, then pay for it off of the market and support the developer who made it. =)
As for the original question:
I believe Titanium will save all of your data (sms and what not). i just switched ROMs and used titanium (among other things). so i'm so used to the switching process, I really can't recall all I do.
I recommend searching for SMS backup which is a free app

My Backup Root is free and backs up text. I couldn't figure out how to back up text using Titanium.

Also, Titanium Backup only backs up apps. Don't try to back up system data with it because it differs from ROM to ROM and can have serious consequences if you restore it with an incompatible one.
If you want a full backup, one you can restore after flashing a new ROM if something goes wrong, you need to make a nandroid backup using Clockwork Recovery.

Well I got everything I need to backup taken care of, but now I'm having a problem flashing the rom. I select the rom in rom manager, check to make a backup, and to wipe the data, hit ok, but then it just restarts my phone and nothing has happened. Any ideas?

I don't use rom manager, instead I use koush's droid X bootstrap. Which might be a dependancy for rom manager.
On a side note. I'm baffled by the fact that someone would come in a developers forum and recommend pirated software. Sad.

Best way to restore Data/Apps?

With the many different GB roms coming out, I find myself wanting to try them all. The only thing holding me back is the setup time after I install a ROM. I use to use Titanium Backup to restore all my apps/data/home screens, and it worked great......except for something was causing the endless sync icon because it was restoring some old system files.
My question is this: What does everyone use to restore as much of their data/apps as possible? I know I can continue to use Titanium, just for restoring apps, but I wanted to try to see if there was any better solution out there.

You could try mybackup pro. It will restore pretty much everything for you

With Titanium only choose the option to restore "Applications and Data" Do NOT choose System files. Trust me, I know personally the sync icon. You can find my adventures here:

I almost started a new topic until I saw this. I'm on liberty 2.0.1 (donated), and I'm waiting for an official gingerbread release. anyway, I always use bootstrap clockwork mod to make a backup and then TB pro for app + app data backup / restore.
that always works great and my flashes to other ROMS would be smooth EXCEPT, when I flash I no longer have TB pro. I need to re-download it from the market. no problem - except I have like 100 apps and I can't say "hey just download TB pro". so, I gotta wait like 15 minutes for market to quit downloading **** before I can use TB to restore right over it.. sorta redundant and really slow. any suggestions?

I'll say this again, the application mybackup pro will do all the data and apps that you need. And you do not have to sit there and install them all. It will just do it

Well paid tb does it all for you to and imo works awsome although I havent tried mybackup... Jmoney does it do that for you on free version if so that would def be lookin into for someone who hasnt purchased tb

i dont think you understand my q:
it seems that the mybackup pro does the same thing as TB pro. I don't have to manually do each one. I paid for pro so it can do a batch restore without my intervention. either way though, after you flash roms, you need to re-download mybackup pro or TB pro before you can restore you backups. but when you have 100+ apps trying to download at the same time, it takes 20 minutes to get your mybackup pro or TB pro. then you have to reinstall your backups over the fresh installs thatt the market just did.
its extremely annoying. if I don't sync with my Google account the market doesn't go all nuts, but then I can't download TB pro or mybackup...

I guess you could uncheck the option under Settings/Privacy "Back up my data". That way the market won't go nuts with all the re-installs and you can just install TB and do your restore.

How about this:
Using root explorer, go to data/app/ whatever it is saved as, you'll see the icon, and copy it to somewhere on your sd card. Then, all you have to do is use the file manager that is on every rom to navigate to it and install it. That way, you don't have to use the market

you can use a application like MyBackup

I was updating its software. When I connected it to pc it asked me for update I accepted it. Then it said u need to take back up of it.
so what things should be backedup before upgration. M new to android. So would love to here it from experienced ppl

99% of the time nothing will be lost with updating firmware/android.
if you have google sync on it will save your contacts and calendar. There is google backup it will restore the installed apps, not the data (don't know why).
so if something goes wrong you will loose your savedata, sms and bookmarks, nothing on your SD.
You can make a backup of sms with free apps like:

It should include wifi access points, installed apps (not save data). go to
"settings > Privacy" you will find the option there

everything on your Extern SD card will be remained, not sure of the internal SD space. i never did a wipe on the phone, even after updating through Kies

Kies asks you if you want to make a backup just before it starts flashing the new firmware. In my case everything was backed up: contacts, call log, sms, mails, settings, data partition, ... the whole backup is around 2GB. I think that should include everything. And for the worst case scenario, Google can backup your stuff, except the App Data (Savegames ...).

Best way to backup which makes a perfect image of what you had before is by using Clockworkmod recovery. However this recovers root. With this method, a restore will turn the phone back to 100% how it was before you flashed.
The next backup method is Titanium backup. It also requires root if you want it to back everything up. This backs up your data, settings and apps. However, if you want to restore, it restores by installing/copying the items back into the phone, which means sometimes the apps are not how they were before. Also, the free version requires you to manually click through each restore, which takes a long time if you have many apps.
The final method is through Kies, but I believe it just restores your settings, contacts and images. I don't think it backs up the apps.

I did an OTA FW update some days ago without any backup ... ok, a little risk ... everything was fine after the update, NO data lost, everything was still there, mails, savegames, contacts, etc..
