I downloaded both apps to overclock my X. the unstableapps version made my X reboot constantly no matter what I set it at. Now I'm trying the JRummy16 app. I set it at 1.45 at medium voltage. No reboots, however, while playing a simple game, it hesitates and skips and jumps around. Also, I ran a quadrant benchmark 4 times and never scored over a 1400. My X running the newest Apex Rom scores over 1500 all the time. Any help with this app would be appreciated, or is it just a waste of time?
I can tell you right now JRummy's app is a keeper. However, Quadrant should be completely be disregarded immediately. Quadrant scores are a terrible way to judge anything. This has been discussed so many times I don't feel like saying it again but a short rundown is that their are so many tweaks that can change that number so drastically without an actual effect on performance.

But what about what I said about the game? Seems funny that it would start doing that after I overclock it.. Shouldn't that improve performance while playing a game or while running any other application?
and btw, i'm on here everyday multiple times and have never seen any major discussions about quadrant benchmark scores.. (other than the hundreds of people using it to brag about their X's all the time)
Your phone doesn't like that speed apparently so either go to high voltage or go down to like 1.30 and see what happens. I have found out that my phone likes 1.15 low voltage the best.
Just sounds like that speed is too high for your phone. Mine's best at 1.35. The x comes with 1ghz stock because it's stable on all phones. Some can handle more, some can't. You just gotta find your sweet spot.

First of all, 1.45 is way too over clocking. I haven't seen too many Droid X that's stable at 1.45ghz. My recomemdation is to drop it down to 1.2 or 1.3 ghz. Mine is most stable at 1.2ghz low voltage. My other recomendation is to install Autokiller and have it preset at Extream or Ultimate. It keeps enough memory freed up at all times to run apps with out freezing your phone. Autokiller will make your phone snappier and smoother. At least from my experience.
Even though most people say that quadrant score is Not relevent in real life, I feel thats score has some truth to it. My Quad score stock ranges any where from 1250 to 1400. When I over clock it to 1.2 ghz low voltage (MY CURRENT SETTING), score ranges from 1500 to 1600 or some times even little higher. When I over clock to 1.3 ghz, score improves again. It scores as high as 1700+ which I'm sure means some thing.
Be careful when u running any auto task killers. Linux, androids base, has always handled processes well and managed ram well. If this was wm we would be having a different discussion. As for quadrant score I guess its an alright tool to compare ur settings on your phone bit a comparison better two different phone is not reliable at all. But actual phone performance regardless of the benchmark is always best, I normally run at 900 ghz at 45-46 vsel and the phone flies on gummyjar and rubix

That's what I was told also. That Android manages Ram well how ever when I was running Widget Locker, LP along with other apps including games, my phone would freeze or delay on me. When I check the RAM, it was going as low as 25MB available. Ever since I preset the AutoKiller to Ultimate, my phone shows over 150MB available and phone has been running really smooth with NO frezzing or delay.
Autokiller is not the same as a task killer. It assists android's internal memory management system. It just tweaks it to your liking, just like all the other mods and hacks you do to your phone.

Ever since I've started using android, ive always been fascinated with the Linpack and Quadrant Standard benchmarking apps.
I currently have a G2 with cyanogen and overclock kernel to 1.9ghz. My best linpack score ive received thus far is around 63 or so.
My question is, is if you look for example, the top scores of the G2, You'll see scores of 69, 70's, 80's, even 90's..and when you view the device data, they're clock speed is only at...lets say..1.4ghz.
Why are their scores so high compared to mine?
Of course, benchmarking programs test more then clock speeds, but still..I feel like with a higher clock speed, I would have results on par with, or better then what they're seeing.
Thoughts?
What I have been told is those guys getting those numbers are running with everything they can shut off.

Make sure you've got nothing running in the background or sitting in memory, and make sure to set your minimum clock speed in SetCPU to your max clock speed. It gave me a couple hundred point boost in Quadrant, if I remember correctly.

I am running CM 6.1 Stable and getting about 2300-2350 quadrant score (setCPU scaling between 245 and 1200). What are you running to get 2800?
Edit: Had weather bug running in the BG, now getting around 2500.
That's the highest quadrant score I've EVER seen from any first gen. Snapdragon device. What do you have it overclocked to? On my mt4g (second gen snapdragon with dedicated gpu) overclocked to 1600mhz on a deodexed, zip aligned rom, I just barely go above 2800 on quadrant.
I had an HD2 and a Nexus and never came remotely close to those numbers on any rom/kernel/clock speed combination. I've messed with and flashed many Evos, overclocked within reason, that also average literally half of that.
Since your post count is 2 and youve already opened a 'bragging rights' type thread, I'm going to have to call BS on this. Sorry, I just call it how I see it. Or hey, maybe you're just the chosen one and have a magic phone.

I am absolutely thrilled with a score of 2500. I have been using a G1 for the past year and a half and I decided it was finally time to upgrade. My G1 was only getting about 580 with CM 6.1 (and that was an amazing score). I was debating whether to get a MyTouch 4G, G2 or an HD2 with the Android off the SD card. I was able to pick up an HD2 for $200 off craigslist and boy I do not regret it. I don't know how this phone can run Android off the SD card faster than off the nand, but I am thrilled. By the way I am using a Class 10 4 GB SD Card, if that makes much of a difference.
Only this I wish it could do is play my 720p videos without the codec getting all blocky/laggy. But that is probably asking way too much.
Is 2500 on stock clock speed? There must be some serious speed enhancements here recently, last I used a dual booted HD2 it was only in the 1300 range, same with my nexus, and two Evos. My nexus will max around 1800 with the miui rom overclocked to 1100mhz or so..Is there something special with the HD2's hardware that I'm missing or is this the norm now?

I am using HD2ONE 0.3.4b based on CM 6.1 Stable (CM is awesome BTW). I am using setCPU to run the phone at 1190mhz clock, but it still gets great Benchmarks without. I have been using CM for about a year now on my G1. It is built for speed and memory improvements as these were necessities to keep my G1 alive and kicking up until now. I would assume anyone who can't break the 2000 point quadrant score might want to take a look at HD2ONE and CM.

Also, this is the T-Mobile HTC HD2, so perhaps the 1gb ram helps as well.
I still don't see the point in benchmarks. I used to have a build (it shall remain nameless) that got over 2400 in quadrant but the UI itself was slow as all hell. My current build (in sig) get's 1700 ish but is smooth as melted butter. I'd rather have a smooth OS than a cooked phone as well.

Your scores are so insane high because of what apears to be bug in the benchmarking of the SD card. Your device is NOT ultra wtf pownage fast. Its nothing to boast about. Its just a glitch. I had a build that did 3100 and still the build from darkstone is 100% faster and only pulling 1600 points.
Benchmarks are fun to measure on devices that run off NAND not SD so for the love of god STOP the benchmark topics.

Well it's not just a glitch. cedesmith's asynchronous data method actually does improve i/o by a huge amount. There are a few spots where the SuperRam build feels faster than the desire_hd2 and hd2one 3.4 but it's really not that big a difference. Plus the battery drain is not as good on the SuperRam.
This is one of the builds shuntje is talking about. Cedesmith's desire_hd2, running slightly overclocked at 1.19. No other tweaks.

i can barley get 5k at 1.2ghz
ish i get higher score with lower oc just 1.07ghz

I don't know the details, but recently I've noticed a bunch of people here posting quadrant scores in the 2100-2400+ range.
I score about 2000 @1.19 Ghz, but my build is quite a bit older than the new ones.
There definitely seem to have been some optimizations done in the most recent builds, especially the one by darkstone which does something like load the entire android filesystem in memory or something.
I'll have to try a newer build.

Most all the big numbers come from the i/o improvements. You'll know if you see the build uses cedesmith's initrd. Using asynchronous read/write improves performance but also has a higher chance of corrupting the data file.
Just off the top of my head, these builds all are using it: cedesmith's desire_hd2, hd2one, jdms, darkstone's superram also uses it for his build.
i am using HD2ONE ROM , latest version.. my quadrant score is 2200+..
after flushing 10-15 ROMs its first time i got 2200+

yha, benchmarks are great braging rights.
ive run roms that bench silly high, but ive also run roms that bench " slow" but in real workd performance kick the crap out of the " fast" roms.
atleast some one did a benchmark from the payed version so it breaks it all down, and shows actual usefull info...

The reason its scoring so high is because of i/o. I believe that's the wrong metric to look at because i believe i/o is dependent on what memory card you have. If you pay attention to the other scores, all of these screenshots are right on par with the nexus one 2.2+. Still awesome, but don't brag that your benchmark is uber leet, as its probably the same or close to everyone else here regardless of build.
To test my theory, load the same build on another SD card, preferably one that has a lower class (lower read and write speeds) and then run the benchmark and post results.
I will also test a build with cedesmiths initrid explained earlier and post my results

Hello everyone. What's a good quadrant score for a stock 860? I have been seeing 2600-2650 on average, is this fairly common for this model? Is there a good way to prepare to take the test by closing apps, features etc?

Ive been averaging consistent 2500 of four attempts in quadrant after the 4.1.57 update. I normally run it just after start up and I get those scores.
I achieved 2740 with 4.1.57
I've gotten around 2900 once, but it usually falls between 2650 and 2800. To be fair though Quadrant only tests a single core, if you compare it vs say an inspire on stock rom (Or probably even a custom) at stock clocks it will only get about 1900-2100. So really the Atrix gets 20%-30% better scores and it's only using 1 of 2 cores. Another thing you'd notice on the Atrix is it has nearly no slowdowns, even an Inspire running at a 1.8 OC (battery life is horrible) will bog when you install/update programs while doing something else because it's still a single core and needs to share cycles across programs where the Atrix can devote a core to all background activities and the other to what you're doing in the foreground. I didn't really notice how fast the Atrix was until I had to fix something on my girlfriends Captivate (Gave her mine when I upgraded) and she has like 25 apps and a custom rom with a 1.4 OC and OMG it felt so slow compared to my Atrix.
I got a 2774 with the gingerblur ROM. That's the best I've ever gotten and I've run it on stock, 1.52, the new update and gingerblur. Gingerblur has gotten me, by far the highest and most consistent scores of all. I usually run between 2600-2750 under normal usage, which is quite a bit.

With Smart bench I get around 2900 on productivity and around 2400 on game index

That's about what I get, it's also funny (although not surprisingly) the single cores get obliterated except for a galaxy S because the GPU in those are amazing.

No, you have to register in that listing. So Maybe he has registered false data. You only have to proof it with a screenshot when you are in the top 20.
i usually hit 2600-2800 on gingerblur but have hit 3000 before.
i got 2449 here
I average 2900 or so lately though I've been hitting 3000+ consistently. Im running rooted 4.1.57 pushing cpu to a constant 1ghz with setcpu. Hopefully once they get over clock we'll be on par with the xoom

1-what kernel were you using when this 'bog' down happened at 1.8 ghz when something was updating. cause my inspire at 1.8 ghz while downloading a file through web, and updating apps in the market will still be faster than the atrix. ive NEVER even had so much as a hiccup at 1.8 ghz on my kernel, and i just did exactly that, downloaded a file, while 4 apps were updating in the market, and at the same time opened app to qr, and the apps loaded instantly. the atrix takes a few seconds for it to load up, with nothing at all going on, with all bloat removed and only the factory default apps on it. the inspire has over 100. also, i posted this elsewhere also, testing my kernel yesterday running at 1804 mhz all day long, i got over 16 hours off a charge with 3.5 hours screen on time. screen brightness was at 100%. if it was at 50 it could have went much longer. not horrible if you ask me. the inspire with a single core doesnt lag when a live wallpaper is put on it, and i can actually type on the keyboard without having to correct errors every other word cause its lags so bad.
just another note, my inspire rom and kernel at default 1ghz (no overclock) hit 2700+ quadrant

two days ago i changed the size of my Vm-heap to 32mb. I was curious after i read in some posts that this could affect the performance of resource-intensiv apps. As i am using navigon-navigation a lot i had to give it a try...
After ive changed it and rebootet the device, navigon works MUCH better then before, track calculation is much faster and the app is much more responsive and running fluent. The difference is highly noticeable. For other apps like my browser i experiecend the same.
I read that the downside of it is that it is possible that apps could be moved out of memory because some other apps now use more ram and so the jumping between apps could be more time intensive. But i have noticed no slow down at all.
(Wildfire is not a fast phone, but i think 384 mb ram is really good for that kind of phone, some other phones like galaxy ace have only 287 RAM with better cpu)
My experience is that a lot of apps running much better know, and for me its a absolute performance enhancement, I would even go so far that i would say it was the best performance-enhacement after overclocking the device. So if you are running resource-intensive apps (like navigation browsing) you should definitely give it a try.
Whats your experience with that ? Ever changed the vm heap size? Noticed differences??

im running my phone with the ondemand governor with cpu-min:528 and cpu-max:691 and i have no lag when someone is calling.

It is indeed said that such lag is due to the 'extreme' underclocking of the processor.
I'm on CM7 RC1, use SMARTASS with 245 as a minimum, and haven't noticed any lag yet..

I didn't want to implicate that the ringing lag is about the low freq., but i noticed that with such low freq's the phone is not so responsive when pulling suddenly the notificationbar, get it out of standby and such things. Never noticed something like that??
I was testing about it too. i settled with 32mb heap size, which i've found to be the best practice. Anything lower would make apps like navigon or opera lag, anything higher, would give me force closes on apps for some reason.
I also tried to experiment with compcache, with the following settings "disabled, 18%, 26%" and i think 26% makes my wildfire a bit snappier, although it might be just a placebo effect, because there's no difference in quadrant/linpack benchmarks.
why placebo effect....the question is how good can a benchmark represent the practial application in daily usage. Anybody?

I have to agree with you Whatever makes my phone "feeling" snappier and faster is good enough in my eyes!
You should really check Juwes Ram optimization thread in the Android development section for some serious performance gain. I flashed it yesterday in CM 7.1 Nightly 144 and the responsiveness boost is quite noticeable.
i agree the synthetic benchmarks are not that important its the daily use performance that mater to me
I have disabled compcache and enabled swap and my phone is snappier than 18%compcache may be Coz of compressing and decompression techniques that slow the process in compcache and scores 3.9 to 4.1 on linpack score with 576 MHz speed...

Hmm i have a swap partition already made just in case and i might try it, but in theory a swap partition (even worse if it's a file) is much slower than the compressed cache due to the SD Speed limitations, unless we are discussing about class 10 cards.

After the release of Clemsyn's 1.6 GHz Kernel for CM7 based ROMs last night, I immediately switched to it just to see.
But before that I was running Faux123 1.3 GHz.
I'm keeping the Clemsyn kernel for now, simply because I can. My phone can run it with little difficulty thus far and I have a profile to lower the max freq when the CPU gets to a certain temperature. I think I went with about 65 Celsisus.
Before I switched back to CM7 (or rather Neutrino) I was using Wet Dream. I OCed to 1.45 then in attempt to compensate for only half decent webtop performance.
But now I really only do it because I can. Whenever possible, my phone is on the lapdock since I like to HDMI mirror. Battery is not a concern since the lapdock charges the phone and I pretty much always keep the lapdock charger on hand in my bag.
I just thought it would be an interesting subject for the community to discuss as I'm sure it's something that a number of us haven't even thought of and I bet a good number of us fall into the because I can or bragging rights category.
Specific instances of problems OCing helped with in x app or y app might make someone else want to OC whereas someone who doesn't OC might persuade a user like myself to drop it for amazing battery ETC.

Why I DO OC.
Right now I have my Atrix OC'ed at 1.45. I'm currently running Alien ROM Build #4.
The CPU has never gotten past ~55ยบ C.
I also have 2 profiles set
1 for Screen off - 800 MHz max.
1 for Battery< 10% -216 MHz max.
This paired with Alien ROM and LP has left me with a buttery smooth experience.
Is the 1.6 OC kernel worth giving a shot? Or does it make the CPU run excessively hot?
EDIT: I didn't really address battery life. I don't notice a huge decrease in battery life, I'm a pretty heavy user- SMS, Web, Video streaming, Facebook, Twitter. Over all OC'ing is definitely worth it to me.
I like to keep mine overclocked because it seems snapier. I use faux 1.45 and its great. Ive noticed clem's likes to make my phone very hot when running video or games and has actually shut my phone down due to heat. If I run clems I like to drop the overclock with setcpu to around 1.3 so it doesnt shut down but seems to get way hotter than faux's. Anything over 1.5 is just going to cause damage to peoples phones and IMO it should not be used so lightly.
I'm OC'd to 1.45ghz I do it for performance and those random times I need to benchmark I want to try 1.5-6 but I can't seem to get them to boot with the ICS mod2 cm7 so till cm9 or neutrino ill just float about with what I have

No need for 1.6 IMO.
1.3 is plenty for the Atrix. Even Faux 1.0 is fine. Its a phone, not a PC.

i honestly haven't been able to really tell a difference between 1.0 and 1.3GHz in most of my applications. it definitely doesn't help with system slowdown due to live wallpapers, which is a disappointment.

Haha, I was in that boat before I switched to HDMI mirroring coupled with VNC or Splashtop (when applicable) from experience, I can tell why Webtop users want OC. You can turn your phone into such a useful computer, and then it falls flat on its face because the inner-workings aren't streamlined. The extra power DOES help in that situation.
But in my actual experience, I haven't seen many realworld benefits past 1.2.
Especially since 1.6 kept eventually shutting down on me after about an hour (assuming there is the same issue as in Clemsyn 1.5, setting your max to a lower frequency than 1.6 won't stick so my temperature profile wouldn't actually work)
My "because I can" mindset is going to leave me stuck on 1.45 though most likely. I keep it maxed at 1.2(or is it 1.1? I'm not using the kernel right now) and then have a profile to ramp it up to 1.45 when it's on the charger (aka my lapdock)
I don't think it is quite the same for Blur based ROMs, but on CM7 1.0 seems perfectly adequate for the Atrix. Even at it's stock speed, it is snappy.

I dont overclock. I used to be at 1.3ghz, but I didnt see a big enough difference to keep it. At least on CM7, the Atrix is plenty fast on stock speed.
I overclock, but I wait for thoroughly tested kernels before doing so. Right now I'm with faux's v023r @ 1.3 Ghz. I'll try Clemsyn's after its second or third "redesign" or bugfix.
I stick to optimal battery life kernels rather than performance (faux 123 0.2.3 being the one I'm currently on and most likely will be for the foreseeable future)
Also I can't imagine performance possibly getting any quicker or running programs any faster than they already are on the atrix.
Honestly, I never understood why people oc their phone, especially the Atrix. I mean the phone is already fast being that it is 1Ghz dual core. Plus from what I have seen, the Atrix overheats like crazy with the stock frequency so why would you want to increase that even more, so it explodes? I use my phone to mostly play 3D games and I have never encountered any lag or low fps whenever I play games.

The Atrix is plenty fast already. I can understand if you OC a HTC Magic, or a Hero; but there's no real need to do so on the Atrix.
Idk I see a difference on any launcher when I flip through pages and through apps. 1.3 or 1.45. But I def notice the difference in snappyness.

95% of the time I overclock I do it for getting awesome benchmark scores that I can admire. 5% of the time I do it when playing 3D games like Fruit Ninja, It seems a lot smoother to me. But I hardly ever do it because it sucks the battery down so fast, so usually I'm at 1ghz. Also it's just kind of cool to see the the potential the phone has when overclocking.
i used faux's kernel to overclock to 1.3 for a few months but i didnt really see any difference except when i run quadrant or how my phone got hotter than stock when under load. another thing that annoyed me with faux's kernel was constantly losing widgets on reboot. i use two batteries so i reboot pretty often.
I used faux 23r 1.4GHz with setCPU profiles.
Profiles clamped speed to 1ghz at cpu temp of 50degc and 800mhz at 60degc.
Most noticeable difference was in k9 mail, indexing and searching were slightly improved.
I ran it so I would get a short boost if the cpu was cold.

On my old and feeble Hero I had to OC, if I wanted it to run fine, however I never felt the need to OC my Atrix. it has so much juice in it without OC, making it useless to squeeze the battery for the extra 0.2-0.5 GHz. Moreover, since we have no real ICS, our CPU runs freely and waste energy for nothing, so OC it will just make it run ever faster for nothing (In Hebrew there is a saying- running full throttle on neutral ).
I used to run Faux123 1.0Ghz kernel just to UV the device, but since I flashed weekly 6 I use the stock kernel, and it runs great, no overheating, and extremely stable (What cannot be said on UV kernels...)
The only time i oc is when using webtop, that extra speed makes a difference. The rest of the its running at 1ghz and seems plenty
