Anyone else feel like they need a Clockwork mod on their NS? The battery's pretty accurate, but at the same time I find comfort in that battery if I know the number.
clockwork mod is a custom recovery used for flashing roms and other things. accurate battery mod is what you're talking about.
i kinda like the stock battery

I want to start off by saying that I am a NOOB at this rooting and custom ROM stuff. I was getting ready to toss this Vibrant in the trash when I said to read up on rooting, follow the steps provided, and install a custom rom. XDA you have saved my phone. I want to thank all of you who provide all of the support here. I installed Bionix 1.3 and I am in shock at this phone now. GPS actually works in real time. The phone is superfast as well. The only issue I have is that I can't surf the web or check FB without my battery draining like 3-5% in a ten minute span. Its crazy. Battery does well in standby mode. Extremely well as a matter of fact. not sure why it drains so quickly when I actually use it. I have wiped the battery stats and done the battery cycle. Overall still love the new look. Keep em coming.
Glad you found a new appreciation for your phone through xda. As we all did.
Your issue is with the kernal used in 1.3. The OverStock kernel. I've had the same issue. Great life in standby 1% an hour vs on a vanilla kernel + voodoo 3-4% an hour drain. Whenever I have my screen on battery drain is insane. 30% increase with the screen on vs how it norally would be. I would recommend flashing ka7/kb1 + voodoo kernel. That should fix it right up.
2 things
Check and make sure there are not background apps engaged when using those apps (sounds like there may be)
Also if you want you can buy a 4g battery it is 1650 mah that will help. But I use my phone alot and Battery really not an issue anymore.
check your background apps see what is not necessary to run.
i believe Team Whiskey removed the OverStock kernel and replaced it with the regualar VooDoo kernel in Bionix-V 1.3.1....
Maybe you should try that....
I'm using Categorically Worthless kernel on Binix-V 1.3.1 and my battery life is great
I must say THANKS as well. Tried rooting yesterday but something went wrong, was on official 2.2 and couldn't get 3e-2e fix to work. Nearly bricked phone. Searched xda. Now rooted with Bionix v (not tw version). Loving this speed. Battery isn't an issue since I have a spare w/charger.

Go to team whiskey's website, register,go to forums look for shory's files near top of page download kb1+voodoo kernal and flash it w/clockwork ...that will overwrite the over clock kernal and give you much better battery life or you can just flash bionix 1.3.1,personaly i like 1.3 and i just switch back and forth between kb1 and overstock it only takes about 20 seconds to flash
Bionix-V 1.3 w/a Splash of Color
Thanks for the response everyone. Will flashing the kernel wipe everything? I will be doing a backup though clockwork anyway. I was just wondering..... Thanks.

No, it will just overwrite the kernal files, so your sd card and all that should be fine, but go ahead and get in the habit of making backups regularly. Trust me, it can happen.
Hey guys.
I've done my best to do lots of homework as I've slowly hacked my way into Continuum territory. I've spent a couple hours researching this and tried a couple zips and had to restore my phone.
Basically, I'm trying to get a percentage battery display instead of the battery icon in the top right notification bar, so I can see the battery level. I've looked at UOTKitchen, I even tried a Fascinate zip that did the same thing, but no dice.
Is there an easy way of doing this? I've been googling for a long time and can't find anything on this for the continuum specifically.
Thanks!
Let me add, I've rooted and flashed the Adrynaline DL17 clean ROM.
I got it working, I'll upload it later xP

Don't mean to pester Trailblazer. Just wanted to make sure you were replying to this thread and not on another so I know where to search. Thanks.
Lmao, the percentage battery mod has been uploaded in the theme section for like a week xP lol go check it out

Found it and applied the zip. Couple questions:
1) Looks like the GB theme contains the accurate battery mod. Is it possible to keep Adrynaline's clean DL17 ROM look and then apply the no clock and battery mods (and have the battery icon remain the standard blue)?
2) I've also seen a battery mod for Fascinate that has a circle with a meter on it, and the circle changes colors as the battery drains. Is this possible for the Continuum? If you google "samsung fascinate accurate battery life" several links come up with examples.
Thanks for your thoughts. Let me know how I can return the favor.

Yeah, I can create an accurate battery touchwiz theme... No Problem
I could do that too, i just personally think that's ugly If a lot of people want it (and will actually keep it! ) Then i will do it
and just stick with this phone, that's all i can ask
EDIT: Go check out my thread in the theme section Just for you
Applied the zip. At first it was working, but after charging last night, it's stuck on 100%?
hmm... That's kinda weird... If it worked before, it should continue to work!
I'll take a look though!
Couple things I noticed that may help. It seems to freeze at one number. So for a while it was at 100. Then 80, later at 35. I think they changed during reboots of the phone, but not during every reboot.
I applied the Touchwiz zip over the top of the GB theme. Should that work? Would I need to reflash the whole ROM and then apply?
THanks trailblazer!
EDIT: Watched it a bit closer today. It went from 100 to 80, then 65, when I woke up this morning it was 35...looking at the actual battery level though, those are only rough estimates. It seems like it is probably using the default Touchwiz battery levels, rather than the full accurate percentage.
Just to be sure, I flashed the clean ROM again. Still same issues.
I love to play around with new ROMs and kernels and usually don't mind a few hiccups and occasional poor performance. But soon I will have a one week period where I need my phone to be as solid as possible. What's the best ROM/kernel for this?
I currently use CM7 as my daily and have tested CM9. CM7 is great except battery life is pretty bad, with both the CM7 and Samurai kernels. I lose about 1% of battery for every 90 secs I'm actively doing something - even on Wifi and with a strong 3g signal. A 15minute drive with GPS (and screen off) easily takes 10% off my battery. This is unacceptable for my upcoming event.
I would like a ROM/kernel combo that can go for a minimum of 12 hours with moderate use. No voice, but frequent texting, email, twitter checks, some photos, and calling up pdfs. Battery life and stability are the top concerns, but GPS is important as well. CM7 gives me the best GPS results I've ever had with my Epic, but like I said, the battery performance is awful.
Any ideas? Focusing on all the cutting edge stuff means I've lost touch with the latest improvements on the more basic, but more solid ROMs.
Thanks!
get a larger battery or pick up a spare oe battery as a backup.
this is one of those questions you just dont ask cause it all depends on how you use your phone and all that i know you say what you mostly use it for but it still doesnt help if you are looking for a stable rom as far as mtd goes they are all good and as far as kernels go they are all good but the kicker is just finding what works best for you feel free to play around with them flash one per day and figure out which one works best for you cause honestly we cant tell you cause what would extend our battery life might not work for you because you use your phone differently than we do but trust me all of our devs are gonna throw out something that doesnt work all the warnings are there and all the help and how to's for each rom and kernel are in their respective threads sorry i couldnt give you a better answer bud
happy flashing
Oh and I forgot to mention since you have been running cm7 make sure you don't flash a bml rom not sure if u were aware of that or not so only flash and MTD rom and kernel
CleanGB. No OC/UV, and buy an epic touch 1800mah battery. For me I get best responsiveness vs battery life if I run 100/800mhz with governer set to performance. You'd have to REALLY try to kill that battery in a day with this setup.
Edit: you use gps in the car without plugging it in? No wonder your battery commits suicide lol. If I use gps and stream music through bluetooth it still discharges on the charger.
There is no such thing. Even pure stock has errors on some people's phones. You need to try one or if it is that important than stock is your best bet. EVERY Phone is different. Read through some of the ROMs...95% of the people have no problems and 5% do. It is the nature of the beast. No one can tell which is best for YOUR phone. And if CM7 is giving you terrible battery life, there already is something wrong with your phone setup. You probably need to start from scratch and restore no apps or data and download apps fresh from the market.
I've always had good luck with CleanGB roms & kernals by toadlife.

But not everybody does. There is no best. I can easily say marcusantrom with shadow kernel is best on touchwiz and CM7 with the kernel it comes with is the best in general. I won't say this because different people have different phones and preferences... if you really want the best rom/kernel/theme, make it yourself.
In Soviet Epic forum, clockworkmod root you!

Hey. So I wanted to buy the nexus 4 , and then I've heard that the battery life is suck.
I found out that it could be fixed by installing a custom kernel.
I'd like to apply a cusom kernel
that saves -Alot- of battery , doesnt change anyting specific but the battery usage.
and to still stay with the Original Rom.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

try them all out, they are all good. the thing is, all our devices react differently, and all our usages vary with as many users as there are. so the only way that you would find YOUR perfect kernel that YOUR device likes the best is to try them all out. it takes seconds to flash, so time isnt an issue. try one every few days, youll find the one thats for you.

OK... but all the kernel changes something in the rom. I would like to keep my rom exactly the way it is , exept from the battery usage.

You can flash any kernel you want, and the ROM will stay the same. The kernel operates "under the hood" (the engine), while the ROM is what you see (rest of the car, to use that analogy). You can use an app called Trickster Mod to tweak kernel settings. Be sure to know what you're doing though, and keep a backup just in case.
Also, be sure if you flash faux or trinity kernel (that I know of), that you flash on top of a stock kernel/reset kernel. If you flash any of those on top of another custom kernel, you could get in trouble (because of the way the kernels are installed).
And the stock kernel is really not as bad as people make it out to be.
Sure custom will usually be better. But stock is not that bad. All those reports of horrid battery life I really don't know what the heck they are doing to be honest.
I used it for a while. And the other nexus 4 in the house is bone stock. It gets off the charger at 530am and needs to be charged around 4pm with around 4 hrs of screen time and 45 mins or so of candy crush.

Now that the battery life is improved on 4.3 JB version , I wont be needed to a custom kernel. Thanks alot.
Hey, can everyone with a custom rom installed, post speed/battery stats for the rom/version on their L720?
Stats from something like Quadrant or maybe another one that lets you copy/paste the results as text, instead of having to do a screen cap, or type it yourself
I personally would like to see the starts for the nightly CM10.1 builds, but I'm sure others would like to know the stats on other roms, before bothering installing.
Thanks for reading!
