With any build you can download an app from market called WiFi Tether.

But it requires a desktop client.....
Solved. Its implemented out of the box (settings/about/usb settings)

what do you mean? multiple builds work fine.
PPP builds need the iptables script ran manually.
Wifi tethering from Vodafone in Greece has stopped.

im using core build v5 and it dont come on it say activated but the check sign dont check
Refresh your ip AFTER your pc is connected and complains. Use command ipconfig /renew in start menu or cmd window.

The latest FroyoStone and Mdeejay builds have wifi tethering working.
why cant people search and post in the appropriate forums? this is development. not questions and answers................
Anyone gotten it working? I tried the latest but it says my kernel doesn't support tethering.

It's not working because you have to root the phone. You can use the Visionary app in the Market (thanks MoDaCo) to do a temp root, and then run tethering app. I haven't found the temp root to be damaging, but you're doing this at your own risk.

I am rooted... or it would have said it can't gain super user rights.
Anyone else had any luck with this? I can get it to run, start the network, see the SSID, etc. But I never get an IP address on my client device. Worked fine on my G2, but doesn't work on the myTouch 4G.
Nevermind, I downloaded the newest version and it works perfectly:

This thread is talking about apples and oranges.
I'd like to see the "official" froyo tether work. The Google code one will work with or without the tethering plan, as will PDANet and other apps.
Once we see the "hotspot" feature working, we can reverse the setting that enables it without T-Mo's permission.

BTW, where did you get this info? When I launch the built-in app, I see the SSID but dhcp doesn't seem to work. There's no agreement (like most other trial-ware junk like Tmo TV) - so what gives? If it's free, it certainly isn't working so far.

I've tried just about everything I can find to try and get the Wifi Tether Trev Mod app to work on my Galaxy S 4G on sprint, using the most recent CM install. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry - not familiar with "Wifi Tether Trev Mod app" - does it do something different than the hotspot tethering that is built into CM by default?

Usually it gives some better options over the built in hotspot hacks. More access control options, channels, etc.

Can this be done?
On iPhone you've a great app on cydia which is fixed in 1 minute.
Android should be easier right?

it s first time to read this problem!
in all apps that need internet i didn't see any request to connect just wifi and not working on data!!!
IF an app ask for just wifi and thr s no setting inside it to change... SO uninstall that **** and use another app
all apps in android have setting to choose internet over wifi or 3g or both

Nope Dude ligtv Needs Wifi to Stream the Summary video of Football matches.
Same for my yelo tv app to watch tv, Needs Wifi While 3g should be possible.
Same for triiing app that is a VOIP app from my house telephone Carrier to call for FREE thru wifi
All this apps i tricked with my iphone and it worked there has to be a way for android
These apps and more apps havent Got the option to set 3g
