Hi, guys!
Did any of you experience the problem, when after installing Rom Manager, whatever you choose from the menu, it says "you have to install ClocworkMod Recovery from the Rom Manager first..."?
And yet, when I confirm that, it doesen't do anything!!?? Reports no problem, but I cannot use any of the functions in Rom Manager, except "boot in recovery". I have of course, rooted the phone with Unrevoked3.
So my question would be, how to install Clockwork Recovery (UI)?
The other question is which partition to make? EXT, EXT2 or EXT3?
And about the backup... When I made my Nandroid backup it didn't make me a .zip file. Instead I got a "backup" directory with several files in it. Does that count as a ROM backup? Shoud I make a .zip file out of it? Or just rename it as one? Or what...???
Believe me, I' ve searched the forums and did not come up with these answers. So it hasn't been explained clearly yet.

Its not meant to be a zip... if you want to restore the backup just boot into recovery and select nandroid restore and pick your backup it created.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Rom Manager... That did the trick, as the newer version has arrived just after my first install... Stupid, yet there's no warning...

Does this backup (nandroid) count as a ROM backup? In case flashing a new ROM goes bad or if I just wish to revert to my previous one?
Yeah its a rom backup. What else would nandroid be for.

So I got my Droid X in the mail yesterday, it came with Froyo. I rooted it as well.
So next would I get Bootstrap for Droid X boot make backup?
Then Deodox?
Then install ROM Manager so I can install thems, icons, fonts, etc.?
Im wanting to have a backup in its original state.
Been trying to read up but theres so much Im getting a bit lost.

Yeah, get the bootstrap and rom manager, make a backup, then you can apply roms and themes. If something goes wrong or you just don't like it you can restore your backup. Flash the custom recovery in rom manager, then use the bootstrap, click bootstrap recovery and then reboot recovery and you will be in clockwork recovery.

Ok I got the bootstrap, I made a backup then reboot. I got rom manager and installed the mod that it asks.
To be organized, is there a specific folder I need to put my themes and roms in or can i just create my own and go from there?
And Im assuming if I want to go back to OEM I just restore from my backup correct?

Yes.. you can put your themes in whatever folder you like... but if you download them from rom manager... it puts them where it wants.
Yes.. to go back to OEM, restore from that backup you made.
What if I get a rom and want tho throw a theme on top of it? How do i go about doing this? I know i can install the rom from rom manager. How do I do the theme? Also how do I change the system font and dock icons?
Most cases reboot recovery, mounts and storage, mount system (turns to unmount) install zip, choose zip. Always check were you downloaded to make sure there isn't any extra steps

this is my first time writing here so...ummm... hi
i'm trying to install clockwork mod but i dont want to delete my current rom
(settings, apps, downloads)
right now i have cdj cyanogen gingerbread NAND rom on my HD2
and i have MGLDR 1.13
is there a way to install clockworks without deleting anything?
i tried to search for an answer here in the forums and in google but found nothing
please help
Nope no way of installing cwm without wiping system. You can however backup apps and such that you need with titanium backup.
Hi one solution is to back up in clockwork and then copy the backup on SD card and computer. Once reflashed the cwm and you can then restore the whole Rom thru advance backup restore menu in cwm

How can he backup in cwm when he doesn't have it?

If you have a spare SD card you can just use that for CWR and if you want to go back to your previous NAND ROM just flash it again, then reboot with your old SD card in your phone that you used when you where using the .daf NAND ROM. That's assuming you're using Data2SD though.

Try Titanium Backup... It works pretty well and you can batch-backup all your apps and data...

Hi all,
I am having trouble with my Nandroid backups.
Basically, whenever I restore a backup it only restores the Rom in its stock state. None of my apps or data get restored. I first noticed after I tried miui & decided to go back to cm7.
I'm using CWM 3.0.0.0 to backup & restore.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

The latest version of CWM is 3.0.0.5, I guess you should start with that.

Thanks. I didn't know there was a newer CWM. Just updated via Rom manager (which I've never used b4), so I'll give that a try. If it don't work, i'll have to set up my phone all over again *sigh*

It could also be a bad nandroid backup. I've had that happen in the past too. It's a little disheartening when you have to go back three months to find a nandroid that works.
I installed CWM 3.0.0.5 via Rom manager. Now I have no cwm at all! I only have the Android recovery *frustrated*
I'm gonna flash the latest CWM manually, then test out Nandroid backup/restore.

Does anyone know if Clockwork mod recovery will restore a TWRP backup? I am an HTC EVO user so I'm use to Clockwork mod, the problem is, I installed TWRP before Clockwork mod was available for the Kindle Fire. This may be a stupid question but, thanks for any help!

Since you have TWRP installed just use that to restore you backup, it's just as easy as CWR but touch screen rather than buttons.
I realize that but, I would like to try and switch to clockwork mod and try it. I will probably flash it see if it will restore and post my result here.
what u should do, is use twrp while u have it on, restore ur backup that ur worried about. than, flash cwm, than make a new backup.
but to be honest with you, I deleted my first backup and haven't looked back lol. what do u need it for?

I'll probably do that. Do you use ClockworkMod or TWRP?
I tried it and it doesn't work. So Clockwork Mod is nice but , I actually details used to switch back to TWRP.

I just realized that CWM has a problem on Nexus 7. Can't delete old backups!! You can't delete files in the CWM backup folder thru file explorer, terminal with SU or ADB. For that, and so many other performance reasons, I dropped CWM faster than drunk girl in stilettos. TWRP is what I use on my Galaxy S2 and I just love it. You can queue up several zips for install in order, like: 1) TDJ cache wipe, 2) install ROM, 3) install Gapps, 4) TDJ cache wipe again. then, come back 2 minutes later, and you're ready to reboot. ALso, TWRP has a file manager in recovery, so you can actually delete those annoying backup folders that CWM won't even let you delete. TWRP FTW.
I also notice that TWRP has the nice backup options for "System/Boot/Data" backup only. So I can clean backup my rom without all those apps(which is HUGE)
guess I'll need to put back TWRP in my Nexus 7 again.
TWRP. I tried the latest CWM but even the touch version is not that good for me. Also the De duplication backup of CWM is just not quite right in my opinion. In my experience, leaving thousand files in the sd card is causing performance problems compared to just few large files.

If I flash Clockworkmod Recovery in Rom Manager and then Reboot into Recovery from Rom Manager, I go right to cwm recovery. I have tested making and deleting nandroid backups there and it works just fine. My backups consist of a folder containing 5 files including an md5 checksum so I don't know what people are talking about with 'thousands of files'. I think the people criticizing CWM don't know how to use it. I just make sure I flash Clockworkmod Recovery in Rom Manager before I Reboot into Recovery. Works every time. I don't use the Touch version, just plain old Rom Manager v5.0.2.1 and CWM 6.0.1.0.
I had installed CWM first, but now I changed to TWRP and I like it much more. With an USB-stick connected you have the possibility to backup / restore ROMs from there directly, which makes much more sense than backing up to internal memory. Also the other options provided for install / backup / restore are well done. Really nice work!

Big icon easy to use.
CWM, in all honesty, I unlocked and rooted and have never gone back into recovery. Because this is the first device I've ever owned where I didn't feel the need to flash a ROM yet! ( key word,YET) I use my Galaxy S 2 for my flashing addiction.
