FIXED- use beta version on PC (Oovoo- no video) - Epic 4G General

Anyone try Oovoo mobile on their epic (supposedly supported)? I can connect on a video call from my epic to my wifes laptop but we cannot see each others video.

I have the same exact problem.

Same here
Sent from my Baked Epic

I tried it yesterday, worked fine connecting my phone to my laptop (made 2 different accounts to try it out). Rooted stock 2.1.
I heard that you have to use the 3.0 beta on your desktop though.

thank you, i would have never known about the desktop beta version.
It works perfectly now.

On question about this app...
When you do 1-1 video chat, does it only show video on landscape view, and not on portrait view? Thats how it is for me on the Evo even if holding the phone on portrait angle. I was video chatting with someone at a PC so dont know if that had anything to do with the inability for the cam to rotate to portrait view.

thanks- the beta version for windows did the trick!!

Some times people don't read!, it clearly states on the description
"Talk & see your friends on the go! Please ask PC friends to download ooVoo ver. 3.0 beta to video-chat with you from: www.oovoo.com"
Sent from Maxwell's shoe.

I also noticed that when I am signed into my oovoo account AND the program is running in the background (icon on taskbar) I can no longer answer the phone!! The phone rings and the oovoo screen comes up as if its trying to answer the phone- anyone else see this?

Video Call PC - WTF, this must be a conspiracy!

I have searched the net for hours, and I cannot find any easy method to make a Video call from my Galaxy S to my PC via the net.....
Why the heck is this so difficult? The main result I get is Fring, which used to work with Skype, but doesnt any more, so that is useless. They dont even have a PC Client, which is beyond me!
Then there is Qik, but that is useless as well. Either can be used Phone-Phone, but I want Phone - PC so I can video chat with family while I travel.
I am not very experienced with this, but apparently Fring can be configured for SIP services.... but when I looked these up, they are require payment.
Can anyone help me out???? The phone has a front facing camera and can connect to wifi, there is no reason I can see that it shouldnt be an easy thing to do - it seems like all the big telcos are holding back the technology so they can charge their huge rates, hence why I think its a conspiracy!!!!
Cheers!
Yes, I too think the biggest reason for not having video calling over a data connection is due to the telcos' influences. Technically i see no limitation, Fring already did this and showed that it is possible. Skype IMO has the infrastructure but they are more interested in pleasing Verizon than their own customers .
Sipdroid, works with any sip client and trunk that supports video calls.
i tried sipdroid, but i couldn't get it to work, and when i searched somebody said you needed to pay for the account.
but if you say it works, i'll give it another go. so does it work phone to pc or phone to phone or both?
Bump. I've been wondering the same. My small research also seamed to indicate that sipdroid was the way to go.
i've been trying to find a popular video calling App that works with the PC
so far Sipdroid seems to be the only one
"iMovachi"
Ugly as hell and it doesn't support die front camera of the Galaxy S, bit it is the ONLY video chat software that works from android to pc and vice versa.

Not compatible with Galaxy S and the software is a totally mess. Force closes every few seconds, horrible resolution, etc...
Has anyone tried ooVoo yet ?
The single user is free (3 user free for 30 days) and it seems to work perfect with the front camera. It was also a doddle to set up.
I use Yahoo Messenger video chat.
I tried Yahoo Messenger but it didn't support the front camera

Hey.. ooVoo works! Thanks for the advice. Front camera works perfect. I didnt test the voice calls yet... but its free to call phone - PC through wi-fi... its still beta.. hope they improve its quality soon.
another good one is Tango works great between phones
but no PC support yet
Skype app on iPhone already supports video - shame the Android version is still in the dark ages

front facing camera,anyone?

What are some of the apps that use front facing camera?
Gtalk does not use it?there is no y!messenger in the market either?
How do you guys use this?
gtalk works for me, but you could probably use fring for video chat
Google Talk uses the ffc just fine, in my experience.
how does one start the camera in talk?
I can see the camera icon against my name but I cannot seem init a video chat session. Am I missing something?

I tried Tango on my Viewsonic GTab and it FC'd something fierce. I assumed it had something to do with missing some of the phone components of Android and haven't tried it on the A500.
Anyone have a good experience with Tango?

if your contact has the camera icon on them it means they support it. And then you simply tap the video icon next to them and BAM, it works.
Works flawlessly and amazing too.
damn it, I have useless friends. No one with video capability!

GTalk does work, I have already had a video chat and it worked great. Have to play again but I think the rear cam works also.
Used GTalk with my netbook the other day and it worked great.

Sorry I made the suggestion for tango without actually testing it out. But to get tango to launch without closing you need to have the iconia in portrait with the rotation lock on. However since I do not have a mobile number for my tablet I don't think tango will work
Your friends probably just need to download the video chat add on for their PC or Mac http://www.google.com/chat/video
If you are trying to chat with someone that is using an android phone I believe video chat in google talk is only built in the newer versions of gingerbread

so far only web gtalk (so from gmail...) support it
and of course Gtalk Android support
The other person has to be in gmail to do video and if your contacts once they have the plugin there will then be the little video icon I tested the other day with my brother from my iconia using talk to his Acer laptop using gmail chat.. we tried using the Google talk program on his laptop but video option wasn't showing up?

[News] Skype now has video...but not SGS? (link to something may work pg2)

I'm updating Skype now on the market. Says has video now. But says only for selected handsets and SGS is not one of them.
ye, sucks typically skype
This is baffling. If the Nexus S can support it without a front-facing camera, why not the SGS?!
Oh crapas. Its bad enough that they decided not to support one of (if not the most) popular android phone running 2.3 now. What's worse is...
a. DOES NOT SAVE PASSWORD. UGH.
b. I personally think the UI is worse. At least the "Sign-Out" is on the menu bar instead of buried in the "status" menu. But because it does not save password, this really sucks. Would it kill them to put a big red "Turn Off" button somewhere?
c. Seemed less stable, but that might be my phone.
d. I thought that the new "SMS" functionality would mean that Skype is now an SMS client, which would combine messaging functions into one program. Add a dialler into it, and it could be kick-ass. But this is NOT SMS. This is a text message sent over Skype's network to an SMS gateway to a phone. It costs much more than my SMSs through my carrier, which are true SMS.
I only use Skype on my phone when I'm travelling and need to call international. If this program was better, I would not mind leaving it on all the time. Now, google talk is starting to look better vis-a-vis Skype. If only I could call phones from Google Talk, like I can on my computer...
i hope anyone can hack this and enable video for sgs

Skype sucks anyways. Do you really think it will become better with MS?
What we really need is open standard video conferencing protocols.

Its one of those things in which the network is the value. Skype is used for international business and communication. It works better than Google Talk (which also is not open I believe) for talk between China and USA. It works for making cheap international computer to phone calls.
But yes...the company does suck. They can't provide chat customer service...and they're a communications company. Also interface is only so-so.
I NEED Skype on my phone...if no Android version I would get an iPhone. Only other way to call USA from China (without paying huge rates) is to activate VPN and use Google Talk. And that option only started 2 months ago. And I can only call a computer, not a phone with Google.
Fring and Nimbus, IMO, are no better than Skype and don't have desktop clients.

I hate it when people suggest Fring as a replacement for Skype. Give me a software to video chat between Android and PC seamlessly and then I'll call it a replacement for Skype.

it's ironic, cause fring used to be like that, it did support video between mobile (syambian i guess for instance) and pc skype seamlessly. but because of skype they had to remove this option.

Not working for me here.... I'm just trying with Skype Test Call user, which video is not showing up as an option... Perhaps it would work with a real contact? not sure.
Ok, I guess i should read more closely... I uninstalled first, then reinstalled your patched version. I get a video call option now, but the video preview on my side is really messed up.... running Darky's 10.1 (JVH base)
I see 4 pictures of my self from the front facing camera, all on the horizontal view screen... each picture is distorted in shape and has white lines running horizontally through it..

That's a front-cam bug on some ROM/kernel combination.
Not problem of my apk, you can try front cam @ samsung's camera app. Should be messed up there too.

How exactly is it better for talk between China and USA? It's just like any video call software out there. Windows live messenger/yahoo/google/apple/logitech all work, to name a few.
And for phone calls, it's about the most expensive VoIP solution out there.
I use voip.ms, which is cheaper and works with open protocols. With my ATA I can call with a real phone, with my computer turned off. Works on android too.

Gtalk with video

Morning all....
Im having issues performing gtalk video calls with desktops, ive read somewhere that this is due to the 3.2 update? Is this right, if so is there any way to get it to work?
Thanks in advance,
Dan
im pretty sure it works in prime 1.9, wich is 3.2
Strange. I use quite frequently GTalk (video conf) and have no issues. The other party uses a PC so desktop. Apart from quite low audio quality originating from my side I can say all else works good.
edit: forgot to add that yes I'm on stock 3.2
Hmm how strange... i just installed Pauls HR9 rom so will see if its possible with that.
so where do you download this Gtalk?

It comes preinstalled with the transformer (called TALK). If not, then Google it
Don't think it's 3.2. Gtalk video chat works fine for me.
Make sure the PC has the video chat plug-in installed.
Hope that helps...
I use Gtalk on my Transformer and my LG G2x all the time with my GF back home (when I travel for work). We've used Tango in the past but it sucks compared to GTalk.
Her phone doesn't have a FFC so it was hard for her to video chat but she has a Netbook with a FFC so I set GTalk on there. I downloaded the Video Chat plugin but was still fishy.
The only way I could get it to work on her netbook was just simply have her sign in to Gmail, then it uses the Web GUI to initiate a video chat. Weird thing is that none of my devices show her as being Video Capable, so she's required to initiate the start of it (which is no big deal).
For what its worth, I use Revolver version 3.2 and whatever Custom Kernel is available in Revolver Parts.

Skype 2.5 with Video!!!

Finally it comes. Can't wait to try.
So I'm too new to share the news URL.
I know this news too. But from what i read and what I understand bout the news, the skype video calling only support galaxy tab 10.1 T-mobile version, not other version than that, either galaxy tab 10.1 or 10.1v. I had my 10.1v updated, but still cant make video call. Sad case. Anyone else have any ideas about this?
You gotta enable video chat in settings

Just update your Skype to latest version.
Also remember to enable video chat from settings.

I loaded it on my stock Tab 10.1 wifi only. Here are my results...
- I can communicate to my desktop but I get a message stating that the connection is too slow for video.
- I can NOT even connect to my HTC Thunderbolt (Android 2.2) phone. I can chat with the phone but video connection doesn't even ring on the phone and vice versa.
- The HTC Thunderbolt communicates beautifully with my desktop. No slowdown and a nice picture.
Seems that the Honeycomb version of Skype still needs to be in the oven until it's done baking.
it works great on my galaxy 10.1
Very low audio volume
Video works great on 10.1V but the audio volume is very low to the point I have to hold it up to my ear to hear.
Hi,
yes it works great on GTab 10.1!
I love it ;-)
Is it only me, but the new version of skype does not load automatically upon resart in both SGS2 and SGT 10.1.
