How 2 Enable Wi Fi Calling Nero 1 - Vibrant General

Love the new complete version of Nero the only thing missing was the Wi Fi calling that was enabled on the beta versions of the roms If you want Wi Fi enabling here are the steps to Enable it once more
BE SURE TO BE RUNNING PHONE ON THE BETA VERSION BEFORE FOLLOWING THESE PROCEDURES
1. First you must download both versions of nero the new nero v1 and the beta nero 3 or 2 wich ever has the Wifi calling app download both on to your phone
2. disable USB debugging mod and connect phone using mass storage to your pc
3. in my computer select the phone drive (G: hardrive i believe) and look under under downloads or wherever you saved both version of Nero
4. click on the beta version of Nero2 and select the system folder then select the APP folder scroll down till you see Wi Fi calling it should be towards the end of the page near the youtube app
5. Make a copy of the app and save it on your desktop.
6. Now go back to your phone drive and select the NEW NERO V1 go to system then APP folder and copy the WI FI calling from you desktop to the app folder
7. It takes several minutes for the file to compress into the app folder be patient!
8. Go to Rom maneger and re download the new nero version 1 and you should see the wi fi calling app on the application page.
9. Enjoy the WI FI calling with new version of NERO

you could just take the wifi calling apk out of the beta zip and then use adb push wificalling.apk /system/app and then reboot....might be quicker and easier

You can also do this with root explorer

+10 for that one

Easiest method IMHO:
1. Open ROM Manager
2. Click on Dowload Rom
3. Click on Sonofskywalker3
4. Click on Stock Apps
5. Click on Wi-Fi calling
If you try this and it doesn't work let me know and i'll add an updated version of the Wi-Fi Calling app. The current one is for JK6 but I believe it's compatible.

Can you do the same for stock media hub?

I haven't loaded JL4 yet, but I did see a post where someone mentioned that the ringer problem with wifi calling was fixed in the new ROM. I'm not sure if this is because of a new .apk or changes to ssomething else, but it might be worth looking at. In addition to that problem, I'm also having an issue with very low in-call volume. I plan on moving to JL4 to see if that fixes it.

I "fixed" the low volume on wifi calling by turning up the media volume. Wifi calls are tied to that rather than call volume. However, the ringer still plays over the earpiece. Which is interesting. It seems like they wired the app backwards and if the ringer is working in JL4, then perhaps it's been fixed.

I just loaded JL4 and the wifi calling volume issue looks to be fixed, but the app is still listed as v. 1.0. At least in titanium backup it is.
I also did a quick and very unscientific test of cpu usage and it looks to be much, much lower in JL4 than it was in other roms. If this is the case then wifi calling might be truly usable now. Which is great news because I still have a grandfathered unlimited wifi calling plan with Tmobile.

Would Wifi Calling work if you have a simcard other than tmobile

I want to post something easy too, just drop the wificalling.apk in the system/app folder in the .zip before you flash the rom.

How To Enable AD-Hoc Support

to get AD-Hoc working you first need root and either root explorer (paid app but worth the money) or es file explorer (free but you have to enable root privaleges inside the app. its under the settings menu)
1. navigate to system/bin and copy wpa_supplicant
2. past this to your sd card as a backup
3. rename wpa_supplicant to wpa_supplicant.old
4. extract the file from the download and past it into the system/bin folder. (should be wpa_supplicant)
4. Long press on the file once copied
6. select Permissions and set to User: RWE, Group & Others:RE only

Just followed your procedure and I am now wirelessly connected to my Samsung Omnia using WMWiFiRouter. Thanks. This alone was worth the price of admission to rooting.
sorry I'm a little down with the lingo, would this allow me to tether to my droid x using wireless tether?
Ad hoc solution did not work for me...
Followed everything to the letter - got WiFi error - would not connect or even turn on WiFi...
I renamed the old file - got rid of .old and all was back to normal...
I did notice the the Group the file belonged to was NOT the same as the old file. Going to look into that...

!!MUST READ!! Allow Installation of Non-Market Apps!!! WITHOUT UPDATE!

Go here and follow all instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107499. This will make the option to install non-market apps straight on your device (HTC Aria) appear!!! Enjoy!
Known issues:
- Unable to send/receive mms (since settings are erased - maybe re-inputting them will enable it again?...)
- HTC Wallpaper list disappears (These wallpapers can still be accessed in their root folder - system/customize/resource)

as long as I can download the .apk, its really not that big of a deal to me anyway. Just have to connect phone to pc, find the file, drag it to my computer and then install it with android injector. This works for amazon apps and any app I have download from here.

What .apk are you talking about? There is no .apk you download to unlock this option. You have to clear the data of two specific system apps to do this.

I THINK that he's talking about root not being that big of a deal as long as he can sideload...I'm pretty sure. Over a long time of being on forums, I have learned to read and understand the most incomprehensible of verbiage.
sorry, i was generalizing. basically if you can download the app, even if you cant install it from your phone, there is a simple method to get it installed when you get to your computer.
edit: yes, I was talking about how easy it is to sideload. just my opinion. easier to do than possibly lose mms options with this method to get the unknown sources checkbox.
just going to wait for the actual update. which better come soon. as it was supposed to be out before this thread even started.

The update was out before this thread started but only some (very few) people got it. So if someone can't wait for it, since it seems like no one else is going to get it, and they can afford to lose the mms setting (which could be reset manually), then they can do this method.

By default, the native Android SIP stack only allows for VoIP calls placed via Wifi (it seems that even the mighty G from mountain view bowed to the telecom operators), but there is a way to enable support for VoIP calls via 3G as well:
- You need to modify your framework-res.apk to enable SIP over 3G by editing the xml file "res\values\bools.xml" and setting the parameter for "config_sip_wifi_only" to false.

But in the "framework-res.apk" there is no section "res \ values \".
Is it possible there is another way to run a VOIP by GSM?

At the risk of making wrong assumptions you probably did not wipe properly before flashing. A wipe and reflash is always worth trying or at least a reset.
For me a full wipe also includes formatting the SD card.
Having said that I tried that ROM and found it way too buggy. I'm running PixelRom 1.6 Lite touch and it is very smooth and stable

Anyone had any luck with this? I can't find the file that OMJ is talking about to save my life. I don't see any attachments.
I've tried editing my build.prop and I've tried editing the default xml to change the rules and enforcement to 0.

I can't get it to work on mine! I've achieved root, installed the app, matched all the settings up....no internet connection. It's strange, my Ipad can see the network and it says it's connected. As soon as I connect it though I lose internet connection on both devices, can't load a single web page. Did you have this issue at all or would you have any idea what would cause this? I'm at my wits end with it, and I've used this app for 2 years on my M8.

HAH. I couldn't get it to work with this app (not initially anyway). I turned to his site to check if there were settings already available to use for the HTC 10 because it couldn't auto-detect the wifi adapter name. On his site, it says HTC users need to uninstall "TetherGuard" - system app.
Did that, figured I'd reboot and try the built in tethering which now works beautifully. Got it still within my refund window for Wifi Tether Router.
So some combination of what I posted above plus UNINSTALL TETHERGUARD! And life's good now. Thanks much.

You can use Titanium Backup to uninstall TetherGuard since you're rooted, instead of just disabling it.
Anyone want to post the specific changes/tweaks they've done? I've done changes to build.prop and default.xml (using the various settings found all over XDA) and also disabled/removed TetherGuard, but I'm still stuck at hotspot enabling but no data connection for any connected devices (data still works for the phone while hotspot is on though).
