If I use z4root to root can I flash custom roms - Epic 4G General

I'm on the leak 2.2 and want to know if i use z4root to root how can i put another rom on it

Don't take my word as law or anything, this is just my basic understanding. DK28 is 2.2.1 which was released to patch the exploit z4root uses to root that was in 2.2
So no. But again, very good chance I'm wrong.

Root alone will not let you flash roms. You need clockwork mod to be able to flash custom roms.

Use z4, install rom manager use it to flash recovery.

does anyone have the link for z4root

stock to froyo 2.2.1, could not get z4root to run. it would hang up when attempting to apply root. had to pull battery and reset phone. tried this twice with same results prior to the "offical update.zip", z4root worked great

@Zen... I'm not sure what official update.zip you have.. But dk28 still can't be rted with z4 root For me.
Stock DI18 to Stock DK28

You may want to take a look at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798067

[Q] How to root Froyo on Epic?

I had a stock 2.1 Epic rooted with Z4. Manually upgraded to 2.21 effortlessly, all works well.
Tried rerooting with Z4 multiple times and it would not work. I removed Z4 from my Epic.
How can I reroot? The good news it Titanium is still freezing the apps I previously had frozen. However, I have no way to add freeze or unfreeze.
Thanks,
Todd
If z4root don't work just use the one click root with clock work. Its easy and straight forward

Thanks I found the problem I had the old Odin version and then I used the update that had root and recovery built it worked fine after that. I was wondering if you knew of anywhere I could find a kernal that allows overclocking and or has a 600 mhz step in it?
If your going to flash a froyo rom, there are no kernels yet. If your going to start on a 2.1 rom then thee are a few god ones around like the phoenix kernel, the extreme kernel and numerous others that allow over clocking and under clocking. Check the epic development threads for the 2.1 roms and they have the links to kernels there.

Same here, Id rather have an instructional video instead. Because this one click root is not working. I'm wasting too much time already trying to root.
OneClickRoot with Superuser for EPIC w/Froyo
I have a link for a oneclickroot for the epic running froyo without getting a cannot or willnot or failed because of Read Only. Unfortunately because I am a newbie it says I have to post 8 posts before posting an outside link. I uploaded it to my personal website which I use to advertise dogs that I sell. If you want PM me and I will give you the link to grab it off of my site.

fascinate root no pc

Anyway to root a fasicnate with android 2.1 without a PC
What OS are you using?
For Mac there's a nice simple write up over at Android Central
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/34188-rooting-using-mac-video-tutorial.html
You'll have to use Heimsdall to flash CWM though or get VMWare or something to use Odin...
If it's linux..some searches around XDA should give you a good start
Use an app called z4root. I can't find it on the market but it is on applanet
Haven't used it myself but my father did on his fascinate and apparently it worked famously

I would just quickly like to point out that although z4root will get you root without a pc, you are kinda stuck without having a pc. You won't be able to flash cwm or radios. so no new roms since you won't have cwm

Unrevoked...what will it do?

Okay...I am curious. I what will of do to my HTC Evo? What will of allow me to do and what problems will it cause? I see people writing about having problems when they root. Is the Unrevoked way a "safer" generic way of rooting?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm new too flashing roms and all and I just rooted my evo yesterday from Unrevoked it was kinda easy I only did it cuz I wanted the free wireless tether app.my take is u get seamless options.I'm hoping I can install a custom theme to my stock rom.gl
Is it does it give you an option to unrest in just in case you have to take it into Sprint for warranty purposes?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes you can unroot if you need to. You don't do it through unrevoked but by running something called the stock ruu. Its an .exe file. Its pretty simple and once you start reading threads and flashing roms and such you will understand more.
I used unrevoked a few weeks ago and have no problems. Only good came of it. I have free WiFi wireless tether, removed unwanted bloatware, and get to use some apps that only work with rooted devices.

You would need a stock RUU installer i believe.
Flash the unrevoked s-on tool and then run the latest ruu.

Also, how do I know which one to do? Unrevoked3 or Unrevoked forever. Then, do I do it for Linux or Windows or Mac OS?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
you just use unrevoked 3. the forever radio s-off exploit is included. people have gotten bricked phones from it, but not many. i'd run it on mac because it is by far the easiest (one click versus windows driver install, more drivers, instructions, one more driver, then one click).
then again, i would use the zikronix method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
it is much more difficult, but once you are done, you are an android expert. you know everything there is to know (almost). with unrevoked, you know bubkus...
(i always wanted to use that word)
just use unrevoked and be done with it

sure, and be an absolute blank in android for months. have no idea what you are doing, and find out you cant upgrade to gingerbread when it comes out. try and flash the rom, and brick your phone cuz u dont kno how. OR use the link i posted. not as hard as you think. i'm always open to helping people on that too.

Roots and NAND Unlocks EVO for rom flashing and updating firmware components as well as the bootloader,
I used Unrevoked to root
Unrevoked-Forever to NAND unlock,
and a restore to stock via a RUU + Unrevoked-SON will basically undo EVERYTHING and get you back to an Out of Box configuration
weehooherod said:
Unrevoked roots AND nand unlocks. FORGET ABOUT UNREVOKED FOREVER. You DO NOT need it. Unrevoked forever makes your phone easily rootable even if you install an over the air update. But it unlocks your bootloader forever which permanently voids your warranty. Root your Evo with Unrevoked and just don't accept an over the air update. So if you even get a screen saying there is an update available just click no and carry on with your life. Easy enough. Head over to xda once you see that update notification and there will be a pre-rooted version of the update for you. This way you'll still be able to unroot when you need warranty repairs.

Unrevoked Forever is included in Unrevoked3, and no, it's not permanent. Flash the S-ON tool and run a RUU, and you're back to stock and your warranty is good again.
my favorite part of uv-forever is if you run an ruu but dont flash s-on then you can easily re-root.

Would i lose root after 2.2 froyo ota update?

Would i lose root after 2.2 froyo ota update on 21st? If so, how do i get back to root? Sorry for newb question.
First u probably won't get the ota cuz u are rooted ......u need to odin back to di18 stock for u to get the update... or wait a lil longer to have one of ur devs. Cook some rom ready for our root phones... personally I won't go back to di18 ... but if our devs told us (which I don't think we need to) to do it.. then ill be happy to do it...
And to get root back from 2.2 do the same method u did fro 2.1
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Is the OP on 2.2? I'm still on DI18, and it has been fine for me. I rooted, but that's it. Would I still get the OTA?
It was my understanding that you could get the OTA update while rooted, as long as it wasn't a custom ROM. Someone chime in?
Way to NOT search people, I mean seriously....
But anyway like the last half a dozen threads asking THIS EXACT SAME QUESTION, you cannot OTA unless you are on a stock rom with the stock recovery, if you don't want to revert then wait less than a day and it will be in flashable .zip form.
You should be able to get the OTA if you're rooted on di18 and still have stock recovery. The update will most likely break your root, though. All you will have to do to get root back is run the one-click.
Yes

Correct you will lose root but will get the update. You have to lose any roms also clockwork I think. Not positive so maybe someone else can comment on that.

Here's what I would recommend:
1) Back up whatever you want.
2) Run a RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060 to run to completely stock
3) Run this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448

Depending on where you are at with your internal workings and any update you may or may not have done, you may have trail and error back to the 3.29 ruu if your getting errors, so don't give up.

No word yet. Please stop asking, there are over 25 threads about rooting the 2.3 update already. When a root method is acheived, you will find out.
I rooted using unrevoked and I actually did root and showed s-off but I unrooted using unrevoked and it turned s-on again...now I can still flash different roms and some apps still ask for root permission and are granted....but I am trying to flash kings v6 Rom and am having issues with it.....right now I am running mikg v1.03
