Okay, Second time in 2 days... What is wrong? - Fascinate General

All of the sudden (beginning yesterday) my phone has been freezing, to where I have to pull the battery, when I lock it. What could be causing this issue?

What kernel/rom do you have?

None, just rooted with stock everything.

task killer?

None from the market, I use Superpower to help with battery consumption.

Just happened again except this time it was upon receiving a text message and the phone vibrated constantly until the battery was pulled. Don't know if this means anything?

wipe cache and dalvik and fix perms

I don't have clockwork, how can I do this?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

Download rom manager and have it flash clockwork. Then use it to reboot into recovery. Apply update.zip. goto advanced. Select fix permissions. It will do its thing. Select wipe dalvik cache. It will complete that. Go back (with the menu key) and hit reboot. Hopefully this helps!

Just happened again. Except this time, the messaging app force closed and all my contacts lost sync and I can no longer connect to the google servers.
What the hell is happening?

Sounds like you have a possessed phone

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099 Flash CWM the right way lol..
Then clear dalvik,wipe, fix permissions

If it were me I would wipe at this point and start fresh
SCH-I500 - DJ05/SuperClean .9/Nemesis OTB 1200lv/Voodoo5/Darkstar

Simply rooting shouldn't have caused any of this behavior. If it were me, I would try a factory reset of the device (from Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset), and if that doesn't help, take it in for a warranty replacement. Installing CWM to fix something not caused by flashing seems a bit extreme.

I wiped and installed CWM everything's working now. Hopefully it stays that way.

Market wont work after downgrading from dj05

OK. So thisnis my first post here. but I've been readingb up here for almost. 2 months now. Everyone here is very nice and very helpful. So I upgraded to dj05 the other day. Everything was fine burning could jot get my market to open
I cleared the cache, market cache, market download, davilk cache, factory reset everything. So I decided to revert back to di01 and just wait out the official update. I reverted back via Odin and flashed in a clean version of di01. Now I am getting a network error when I try to open the market. Failure to connect with network. Any ideas guys?? Thanks for the help.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Sorry did you factory data reset after you flashed di01? Try clearing everthing one more time. This happened to me a couple of days ago.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Ok ill give it a shot. Thanks.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
OK I tried the factory wipe and cleared everything again. And when I open the market it still give me a server error.

Did you update your modem.bin?

Yeah I did that too. I just don't know what's wrong.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Did you wipe from stock recovery and from clockwork? Adryn has said before that clockwork wiping doesn't wipe everything. Not sure if you already did both though =)
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
If that doesn't work, try this:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13392613/di01modem.tar
Flash thru Odin - use PDA button only!!!!!
Ok so I reflashed the di01 and then used a backup female when o first got the phone rooted. And it fixed my problem. Thanks a lot for the help guys.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
can i please go into detail on how you fixed this? i have the exact same problem and i cant figure it out. I reflashed di01 and did all kinds of data wipes and it still wont work.
EDIT: nevermind i fixed it

[Q] Brick Wall

So need a bit of help from you folks.
As soon as I saw the new blackhole (DJ05 version) on ROM manager I downloaded, chose to wipe, and installed and it had worked brilliantly until I noticed my SMS totally broken and it appeared no wipe had actually taken place. No sweat, saw the post on here when I got home from work and flashed the modem portion and SMS was restored along with GPS working as I had always dreamed it could be.
All had been working well until I noticed today that my market was no longer downloading (the same day that I get the new market pushed to my phone no less!). So I re-read the thread in regards to the DJ05 becoming public and it recommended a wipe. I decided now was the time. However I have been 100% unsuccessful in wiping my phone beyond user data. I have attempted through the phone itself under privacy, through ROM Manager (both factory and cache in either order), via adb rm -r /data command and format data/system/cache, restoring to my backup before the DJ05 blackhole and THEN attempting to wipe (which I had done successfully previously) and any combination of these in every order along with following. I previously had voodoo 4 installed but removed it through the guide the complete way via odin months ago. I also found a guide on xda in one of the other galaxy s variant forums in regards to clearing data and cache in regards to android apps like market, download manager, etc.
My question is after making a short story very long, aside from odin-ing back to original firmware and then redoing the entire thing...what the heck can I do?!
I actually had that problem too with the setup in my sig. Removed voodoo. Restored a backup and did voodoo again and I got the market to work. Clearly that won't work for you but figured if let you know anyways..
SCH-I500 - DJ05/SuperClean .7/Nemesis OTB 1200lv/Voodoo5/Darkstar
Appreciate the response anyway. Argh, if I have to go all the way back via Odin and pretty much redo anything I will but god that would suck.
Yeah but at least you will get your market back.
SCH-I500 - DJ05/SuperClean .8/Nemesis OTB 1200lv/Voodoo5/Darkstar
did you going into manage applications and clear market from there or even remove update from there? that usually fixes it
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Certainly did. That was my first step.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Had this problem before as well. U could try logging into google talk if u are not. Or log out then back in. This is what fixed it for me. Talk seems to have something to do with market
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Edit just noticed backhole may not come with talk but u can download it from stock apps section then log in
I have it installed and re installed to be sure but it appears on open and instantly closes but without a force close.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
hmm. Well that may be the problem. U could get on irc and ask if sonofskywalker is on and have him help. Or flash jts .8 rom this is what I'm using works great. No market issues. He just put it up on the develop section
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
It is also up on rom manager

I did try the stock dj05 and that was the same. I think I just need a wipe but for what ever reason that won't work. But will try the .8 because I have very little other options.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
No luck with the .8. Guess I'll have to odin back to launch and redo everything. Fml. Haha.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Lol you can at least titanium backup your apps so you don't have to spend forever on reinstalling them

I just started having this problem also. In addition to widgets failing to load my settings reset to default and contacts erase after every reboot. I'm probably just going to do an odin restore unless anyone has any other ideas.

are you running a voodoo kernel?
i think it has something to do with either red cwm or voodoo. i disabled the lag fix and flash a non voodoo kernel with green. that fixed it. using green i flashed another voodoo kernel. when i restarted the phone it did not apply the lag fix. si i rebooted into recovery and got red right away. i enabled the lag fix. restarted and lady android applied the lag fix. when it was done my booted up with all my widgets!!!!!
let me know if anyone else has this problem or theory.
Yes at one point I had run one of the froyo roms/kernels and yes I'm running voodoo. An Odin restore seemed to fix it. Not sure what was the problem.
Sent from my SCH-I500
Several folks over on account had this problem. Getting of red so far has fixed it for everyone. I'm back on voodoo and every thing works great now. But I had to disable lag fix and flash green and flash new voodoo in green before it worked. I have red back but its over green. I didn't even have green before.

Everything force closes.

So I been a Epic owner since OCT and had this problem a total of 3 times, im not sure what causing it at all. As soon as I turn on my phone 3 things force close in a loop, launcher pro, gingerbread keyboard, Some kind of google framework. While I can fix launcher pro I cant do anything about the others, some basic things wont even launch after the loop happens Ie the bower,Dial pad and my cam all cant launch. A format does the trick to fix it but I feel that a exterm thing to do, it a major pain to sign into everything and restore my apps. Im on SyndicateROM E05 atm. Im on the stock Kernel. So how can I fix this or prevent it from happing again?
It has happened to me a couple times, when my phone completely dies.
R u pulling your battery out before it does a complete shutdown? Data problems are usually caused by user errors. Reinstalling your rom usually fixes it. You could also choose to delete the data in the specific apps that are fc.

That sounds like that the source of a problem, So if I wanted to fix my Cam how whould I delete the data?

Hit menu, settings/applications/manage applications/all, then select the App that's giving you trouble. Then hit the clear cache and clear data buttons.

Also try 'fix permissions' in CWM.
When you say stock kernel do you mean the kernel that came with the rom?
If that's the case, then it is data corruption caused by sudden powering down of the device. Try using the journaling "on" version of the rom and that will fix it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Syndicate's current ROM has severe file permission issues. I had this exact problem, so I fired up logcat viewer and found out that I was having a TON of 'permission denied' messages.
Download Rom Manager and do a 'Fix Permissions' or do it in CWM. I find that doing it through Rom Manager seems to be more thorough and effective as well as verbose though.
Now that you've done that, enjoy your Epic!

Do a factory reset

Awesome. I did the factory reset through the phone... I still can't get into bootloader mode, and I have noo internet connection. No 3G or 1x.

LOL, yeah took me a minute to figure out the new key combos when I did a wipe after flashing to GB a week or two ago.
Using root explorer rename the file BlurContactsSync.apk to BlurContactsSync.apk.bak
This will remove the sync icon. No need to wipe. It's a redundant file that does what Google sync does natively.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I did the hard reset. The phone is crashing nonstop. Freezes for sometimes 4+ minutes and then reboots.
I am using Launcher Pro. I'm going to try to ditch it and see if that helps.
Thanks for the info on the new button config. to get into that mode to instal GB I used the search key.
I installed the rooted version of 2.3.3 on mine, I had a similar problem. All I done was factory reset, wipe cache, and wiped dalvik cache. That fixed it. This was all done by using droid 2 bootstrap program, not stock recovery.

Use the Droid 2 bootstrapper because it gives a newer version of clockworkmod recovery
At this point, install instructions almost always dictate which bootstrapper to use X vs. 2, but currently we are using Droid2 on GB because its a newer version. There are people saying once GB is flashed you can use Dx, but.... why not just use D2... heres the thread.
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/g...rapper-gingerbread-4-5-588-clarification.html
I believe the persistent sync icon was avoidable by wiping data before flashing GB as stated in the pre-release thread, but if the contacts thing fixes it...

You would need to use Root Explorer to change it. Make sure you mount the folder as R/W.
The easy way is to:
1. Go into "Settings"
2. Go into "Applications"
3. Select "Manage Applications"
4. Select "All"
5. Find the following and clear the data and cache.
"Contacts Sync". "Google Contacts Sync", "Google Calendar Sync",
This did it for me.
