Should i buy i9000 or xt720 - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi,
i have a htc wildfire but unfortunately its screen is too small. I'll choose Motorola xt720 or i9000. Do you have any advice on this?

lol yea,
actually i meant that are you guys still happy with i9000? i heard about some gps bug or something, is that fixed? samsung will release gingerbread or want us to buy nexus s? now you guys are the owners, any regret or would you go with any other brand? things like that i want to hear from you guys.

I think with the latest JPU firmware, Galaxy S is the best Android phone feature wise.

I wouldn't change the SGS for xt720 or even a Nexus S at the moment. (720p recording, fast, etc.) Thanksfully some nice guys will port some parts of the kernel drivers which arent yet working on the SGS (read: closed source) and then build some AOSP Gingerbread 'n friends. CM7 would also be a piece of cake once kernel issues are sorted

If you read it, that HDPI download link is for Google apps, not the ROM itself

I believe it uses android vanilla. I've never used it myself, but i think cyanogen takes his favorite parts about each android rom that comes out and puts it in cyanogenmod, so its supposed to make the whole android experience better. I could be entirely wrong though, so don't quote me on it.
This is like waiting for gingerbread 3.0

put it this way... the G1 runs 2.2, we walk on the moon, we give millions of dollars to Justin Bieber, Obama got elected (had to)
Anything is possible.
Leaked specs show it to be just another Galaxy S phone but with Gingrbread. Also, since it has support for T-Mobile's AWS bands, the modem should probably work, too. It's basically the Vibrant but with a front-facing camera (which we can mod in anyways). I'll be shocked if there isn't a port within days of the Nexus S being released. And hell, Samsung and T-Mo should make the damn firmware downloadable to us! (OK, that last part will never happen...well, not officially

I mean, this is the exact same phone we have but with the front-facing camera installed.
So can we get the rear camera to work with no banding with some firmware from this being ported over? I think that's the best thing of porting over some stuff from this phone.

Not directly @donut, but...
The point of it being a NEXUS is that it is the most open phone. The nexus is the android development phone. It is pure android with all support coming straight from google! Everyone should hope this is not just a rumour. This would hopefully get us 2.3 & more on the fast track.
Of course there are specifics that may not translate but here's to hoping : cheers:!

Well said. The phone is real. All we need is to confirm the hardware is exactly the same (except the camera part). If the hardware is the same, that makes things easier. As the ROM chefs/devs here have shown, porting is doable among Galaxy S phones with the hardware being so similar.
I honestly think we will get gingerbread before froyo

Hopefully this will completely free us from samsung's awful rfs as well.
Its a rumor, but I heard that it was being delayed to put in a dual core hummingbird.

I usually don't participate in the "When is ______ coming to the Vibrant?" chaos, but I thought that was really funny.
Nice job.

Important for all people

Not really lol, just thinking that shouldn't samsung like give us galaxy users a upgrade option, I mean I just bought the i9000, and nexus s is coming at thee end of december, wtf!!. I am now tangled in a two year contract and I can kiss goodbye to a nexus s, @#%;?/!! . Don't you agree people of the world! What are your views?
Im sure the ROM will be ported and then my phone will basically be a nexus s.

That's just the world of smartphones, sadly.
As an old Blackberry user, this doesn't surprise me at all.. But from looking at the specs of the Nexus S and the SGS, there's really not a major difference.. I definitely won't be losing sleep over it

Well...here's the problem.. Nexus S doesn't really feel like an upgrade from Galaxy S.
1. Bluetooth 3.0 becomes Bluetooth 2.1
2. moviNAND becomes iNAND
3. No microSD card slot
4. No 720p video recording
Of course there are some good things with the Nexus S
1. Android 2.3 and software support from Google (No more Samsung!)
2. Contour Display
3. Near Field Communications (NFC)
4. Three-axis gyroscope
5. Anti-fingerprint display coating
6. Flash for camera
7. Maybe better GPS
However, to me, the only real advantage with Nexus S is software support (and GPS if it's true). Hardware-wise, Nexus S is not as good as Galaxy S. I think the best would be the Nexus S rom gets ported to Galaxy S.

SGS II Motion Features

I wish the vibrant would have cool features like the new SGS II is going to have.

Do you think the devs will be able to bring some of these features to the vibrant/I9000?
Looks like its using the accelerometer. It could happen if we have a touchwiz 4 port.

That and to continue my flashing addiction.

I think that is the gyro, and from what i have seen online, vibrant also has it, and it should be enabled when we get gingerbread.
and when this phone comes to tmo, and i team it up with my samsung series 9/macbook air... I WILL RULE THE WORLD <evil laugh here>

why does the coding take so long for samsung? if 2 developers can port CM in some weeks, samsungs coderteam will bring gingerbread in 1 week to g3 .... oO
I think official android 2.3 is impossible for our phones. Samsung hasn't even realised official non-branding froyo for our phones. I5800 has been abandoned by samsung developers.

Because it's not about the ability or competency, it's about business rationale. Samsung's dev team could compile both the kernel and the whole Gingerbread for less than a few hours and polish the bugs in a couple of days - but they don't want to. Then they won't sell you the new Galaxy Ace (or any other 2.3 phone) if you can have a phone with the same capabilities if you install 2.3 on SG3.

Exactly.... and considering the job they did for our so called official builds it's better they don't.... i hate the samsung modifications to stock Android anyways....... and i really think that marcellusbe will do a way better job and will actually "fix" the found bugs!
Official/Unofficial doesnt matters. Its the same Gingerbread.
Official Gingerbread from samsung (for galaxy 3) < Gingerbread For galaxy 3 from Marcellusbe! Just wait a bit

Yep...samsung give rom's with craprware...and useless software...marcellusbe will give us a firmware really optimized for our phone
I surely do hope they will not release gingerbread. They already gave us froyo which is good for a budget phone like ours is. If they start supporting us forever the sales for i5800 would turn from a profit to loss, and that's not the point of business
