WP7 Nand Flash VHD - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I found today that XDE creates VHD file located here C:\Users\a.sorokoletov\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XDE which is named {GUID}NandFlash.vhd
Does anybody know what is it?

vhd file is harddrive image for microsoft virtual machine..

I know
But for what it's being used?

For microsoft virtual machine... Its virtual hard drive, like your physical harddrive in PC...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHD_(file_format)

Persistent storage?
If it's in VPC format indeed, you should be able to mount it and access files inside, using, for example: http://www.freewarefree.net/utility/5888/vhd-attach-150/

Hi.
Im running wp7 by nand/magldr 1.12.
There is a "fake"/emulated SPL (wp7 with sd-card) and Cotulla points out that sd cards are formatted with 2 partitions: one in UNKNOWN format: that it RAIDs it with RAM!!! Could this be connecte to VHD?
You can access new wp7 spl after magldr 1234-5-6. boot. press vol down around 4 or 5 before go go go.

Artemis SD Card flashing

I think we must add a note in the wiki...
Some users, like me, have tried to flash via SD card without success.
This guide is correct, but some SD cards are not too fast, so when you start in flash mode, pda doesn't read SD and goes to next step (vertical colored bars).
To solve this problem I've used WM5torage, just deselect all voices (Read-Only, Removable Class and Lock card), then I've connected my pda to PC.
Windows XP reads this drive like a fisical drive (not removable) so it is possible create, resize or delete partitions.
In disk manager I've deleted principal partition then I've created a new one with size=256MB
With this size my slow SD needs less power and it's so fast to start in flash mode!!!
Great notice man.
This method worked! Thanks!Спосибо,Merci,Grazie,Gracias....
Please explain this method.Step by step.I hope it'll working for me.

1) install WM5torage in your pda
2) start the program
3) deselect all voices in the panel (expecially Removable Class)
4) connect your pda with PC via USB
In this way windows read the SecureDigital as a fisical disk, so you can create, resize and delete partitions
5) in your PC right-click on Computer, then select Manage
6) Select Disk Manager and then delete existent partition
7) create a new partition with max size 256MB
8) format this partition in FAT32
Now your SD is ready to be used for flash!!!
I hope this guide is clear, sorry for not perfect english...

Sorry, this solution is tested on slow 1GB MicroSD, resizing partition it becomes enought fast to start flash.
64MB is too little and too old Micro SD.

Increase 'Program Memory' for GPS use
Normaly when I try to use the GPS, I got the mensage 'No enough memory to open the Map'. In this case, the only way to start the GPS is to do a 'soft reset', and the normaly the GPS works.
What I can do to increase the 'program memory' and avoid this problem?

The program memory is the ram, it depends on how many programs are launched.
To free this memory you can use software like "Hibernate".
An other possibility is decrease PoolPage size to leave more Program memory...

First of all deselect all voices (Read-Only, Removable Class and Lock card) in WM5torage and connect to pc.
In this way Windows (PC) use your SD like a real disk leaving you manage it!

The situation it this: to resize a partition in a removable disk (in this case a microSD) you need a program that connect the card to windows PC like a phisical drive (with Windows Mobile you must use WM5torage). Other readers are not able to use removable drive like phisical!
Your problem is more complex, you have damaged boot sector and you have no way to start in flash mode! If you have a microSD good for flash with Artemis, you coldn't flash anyway!!! Your phone is dead!
Only way to rewrite flash without bootloader is JTAG!

Changing Shift HDD to CF Card Disk

Check out this site, it's the guys from Mobile01 again trying to replace the existing HDD to CF card disk, you will see the RAM and HDD in closer view.
Result......? it doesn't work, because after install the CF disk, it needs to proceed to re-install the OS, and the OS is store in the original HDD, guess this guy didn't find a solution into this. However i do believe we will be able to sort this out in the near future.
Also replacing the RAM is currently not possible, there are no 2G module out there for sell yet, I guess we need to wait for the Hardware to catch up.
Go and check out the pic in this link:
http://www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=5414
how about cloning the disk to CF first ?
Maybe use a clone proggy to clone the actual HDD to the CF card first, then mount / solder it ?
Maybe i'm too dumbed down by windows OS'es, but if you clone the HDD bit for bit to the CF card, my guess is that it will boot straight away.
Maybe one needs to fiddle a little with the MBR, or the device ID, but that should be it really.
Please keep us posted.
Are the installation files on the harddisk?
I read in another thread that the installation files are in ROM soldered to the motherboard and that all you need to do after installing a new harddisk is to press FN F3 at bootup to restore Vista. This might be wrong and I'd actually wonder what the hidden HD partition would be for if it should be true.
Anyway, if they didn't make any mistakes installing the CF card, they should be able to install Windows from a USB drive.
However, have you seen what they installed instead of the 40GB HD? A 8GB CF card. This will never be enough to hold Vista, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the cause for their problems, the installation routine might just balk at "insufficient space".
As the linked website is using Chinese (I guess, or is it Japanese, Korean, ...) characters and language, somebody able to read this would have to evaluate what they are doing.
Swop hdd
The problem with swopping the hard drive is it has since been discovered that the drive is artificially sized down to protect a HIDDEN partition using special features of IDE drives in conjunction with the BIOS.
I'm aware of no program on windows that will clone this special hidden area as the drive removes it and it is only visible on boot. However linux can see there is a hidden partition but i'm unsure not knowing much about linux whether it can clone it.
If you simply swop out the hard drive you will lose the ability to FN+F3 on boot to restore the image.
I would suggest therefore you do the following before the swop out.
1. Boot Shift
2. FN+F3
3. Do a full factory restore
4. Switch off when directed
5. Attached external USB CDROM/DVD drive
6. Use BartPE
7. Power on Shift and boot immediately to BartPe
8. Once booted insert a usb hard drive / key using the 3-way hub, so you have the cd and hdd connected via USB
8. Ghost / clone the drive from C: to your external hard drive / pen
You now have ghost image that you can restore to on the new hard drive (ie. not a FN+F3 restore process but a CLEAN ready to initial boot installation of Vista).
Regards
Blitz
The vista installation files are in a hidden partition on the hard drive.
This is why the 40gb drive shows as a 34.2Gb drive.

The reason why they install 8G CF card is for faster read/write speed, and i guess it will also decrease battery usage since it's not mechanic moving like the original HDD.
Thanks very much wu5262 - I fully understand why they want to use a CF card instead of the harddisk .
I was pointing at the meager 8GB size they picked.
If you want to install Vista, use at least a 16GB card. If you can get your hands on one, use a 32GB card (admittedly not so cheap). For an example: http://www.amazon.de/Components-32GB-CompactFlash-HighSpeed-Karte/dp/B00162ZOPW.

[q] htc hd2 usb port and sd card problems

I have had my mini usb port broken since a couple of months now. I can't charge or sync with my htc hd2 phone as such, I have bought a cradle with a spare slot to charge my battery.
I am actually on android nand rom typhoon v3.6.8-magldr and will like to update my rom as I was doing before with my sync cable but since the usb port isn't working,
is there any way I can copy new roms on to my sd card directly on my laptop and install it how to I go about it
copy the .zip to sd, enter magldr - 8 - ad recovery, in recovery 'flash zip from sd - choose zip' will flash the rom..
BUT
since you would need usb to flash a different partition size, you can only use roms that are small enough to fit in your current partition layout.
you have typhoon, so you probably have a 130 - 150 meg partition, , , from the market, download 'supermanager', start it, choose file explorer, enter the system folder, and look at the top of the file list, directly below ''back up level folder' something like total 150.0M used 137.7M Free 12.7M(8%)
This means I have a 150meg partition layout, so i can use any rom that says it needs 150meg or smaller.
Thanks for the reply, my question is, can I insert the my sd card straight into my laptop slot to access it or not?
yes
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
And you can use MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 7 to resize all or any of your partitions on the SD card when it´s in your laptop aswell. including fat, fat32, ext3 & ext4

[Q] Samsung i8000 (omnia2) android cm6new rom

I have an Omnia 2 wm 6.5 professional and my PC with windows XP.
I've tried install the CM6NEW ROM Version 6 in my internal memory(storage with 8Gb) many, many times, but i cannot do that.
The auto instalation worked right for the SD external card but for my internal memory not.
I did what was explained on the README.txt file...
"3b. To install on internal storage - rename sd_ms.cpio.gz to sd.cpio.gz, but You MUST have partitions created earlier properly (fat32, ext4, swap)!"
... and until created the startup.txt file but after when I clicked on haret.exe in root of internal memory, the screen stop in the message "Android on Omnia II Loading..."
what is happening ?

If you want to install Android to your internal storage, you should use an Ubuntu OS instead of Windows XP to make partitions.

Sorry for my slow answer.
I don't need of Linux OS to make Android work in internal memory. I just changed "mmcblk0p2" to "mmcblk1p2" on the line below, in startup.txt file:
Set CMDLINE "rootdelay=2 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 init=/init"
The problem now is that the folders Android, .android_secure and LOST.DIR are created in SD externa card root and not in internal memory root.
Exist a way to change these folders to root of internal memory card ?
Thanks.
move to twister 2!!!

Trying to Install Windows 10 on a bootable sd card for the Surface Pro

Hi,
Since yesterday, i've been attempting to boot windows 10 on a sd card in order to try it without messing with the internal ssd. To do that I had to transform my sd card into a fixed disk in order to create multiple partitions, then i convert it into a gpt format and partitioned it based on microsoft recommendations, i used the dism command to apply install.wim image on the windows partition and bcdboot to create to boot files on the efi partition. Sadly after booting on the sd card, i've encountered a bsod saying inaccessible boot device.
Can somebody help me?
Thanks.
try to make windows to go on your sdcard. it's must work.
when normal windows booting, it unmount all usb devices.
windows to go specially created for working from usb storage.
Microsoft modified versions of their OS (Windows 8.1 and above) to detect whether :
1. They are Enterprise versions. No Enterprise means no booting.
2. They are running from "authorized" USB devices - They have a whole list of approved ones on their site.
That is why it doesn't boot. Once you get to the Windows Loading Circle Screen, it'll remain stuck there, spinning forever. I hope they change that soon with newer builds of Windows 10, though. Wasn't working till 9926. Windows 8 works though.
