Has anyone been experiencing these issues?..... I have a 2009 Honda Civic SI and the car is equipt with a usb port for mp3 players, iPod etc. When i Connect my Droid X to it, it attempts to load then I get the word "Unsupported" on my stereo display. I know this was possible on the D1 but cannot get this going with the X. I have tried all options the X gives for mounting USB and even tried USB debugging both on and off. I have my music on the root of my SD in a folder and am running on the official 2.2.1 update if that has any relevance. any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Those systems can be picky, as much as it may suck i'd say backup your SD, format it with the droid, throw on some mp3s and nothing else and see if it works. sometimes from dirty mounting and un mounting these usb players will refuse to talk to it.

Very tempted to try this just not looking forward to dealing with this mess we call sd cards lol. Thank you for the suggestion.
What about just hooking it up to the AUX port?? Get a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable and you'll be set.

Thats always been an option but in order for music titles to show on car stereo screen and switching titles with stereo itself, it has to be hooked up via usb. My D1 was a champ when it came to this but i read somewhere that the 2.2 or 2.2.1 update disabled some usb playback capability when it came to car stereos or something like that. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion but really shooting for success with USB.

Under the settings there is a check box that says Auto USB drive. Check that maybe that has to be on in order to recognize it properly.
Buy a new one. Most car stereos are utter crap when it comes to proper support of A2DP and AVRCP. Parrot, Pioneer and Clarion were the ONLY brands that had multiple stereos that reliably worked with my Droid X & my friend's Captivate. (Galaxy S)
We spent HOURS in a Car Toys store with like 80 decks testing them out. The sales guy, (who actually seemed knowledgeable on the subject; we were floored) agreed that it was very poorly implemented on most stereos as of now.
Again; Pioneer, Parrot & Clarion. (in no particular order, though I'm a personal fan of Pioneer)
Thanks for the suggestion. Speaking of new one, I accidentally found out the wife is getting me my pioneer touch screen navi audio system with all the multimedia goodness I could ever ask for, for christmas. That would surely solve my issues lol!!! We shall see!!!!

It was the 2.2 update and its not so much that Moto directly broke playback, but Moto did force an unneeded drivers image on us. Unfortunately, this image shows up first when connecting via USB to computers and many car stereos (mine included). Your stereo, as well as mine, sees this image first and can't read it.

Anyone managed to get music from the desire hd working over an Audi bluetooth car kit? I've tried BT Mono but that doesn't work, I think its something to do with A2DP and audi not supporting that???
Wondering if anyone has any information or has got it working.

I think it has something to do with Audi because I have no issues running music through bluetooth in my car. When you connect your bluetooth to the car audio, does it says headset and music connected?

No, when I turn Bluetooth on the logo at the top changes slightly just to let me know its connected and I can access phone book etc. But the radio.still plays, the second a phone call comes through the radio drops and the phone rings. When Finished with call the radio starts again. If I play music nothing happens don't hear any sound and it doesn't stop the radio.
I read that Audi doesn't support music playback without an update and adapter although they don't seem to sell them.
Btw my setup is just the Audi a4 sline 2010 default, Bluetooth built in and built in radio etc.

Ok.. Usually when I connect to bluetooth, first it will say connect to phone and then connect to media.. there's one thing that I forgot to tell is that I have to go to Bluetooth in the Main menu than I am able to hear the songs from the phone. Without going to my Bluetooth Selection from the Menu I am not able to hear any songs.. Hope this helps..

But what version of mmi and where in the world are you? Different countries get different default options installed! Also depends on what modules are enabled inside the computer. Some of these settings can be changed by accessing a hidden menu from your console others might need to be changed using the Ross-tech cable I mentioned earlier. If you need more help on version info etc do a search on the A5oc forums.

I'm in the UK, the rom I use is cm7.0.2 so the latest one. I'd be interested in finding a Bluetooth menu or hidden menu on the computer??
Ill have a look later for the version info as I don't know.

Fair enough, the hidden menu depends on version of mmi either the 2g or 3g but you press both car and setup together for 5 seconds. WARNING do not enter the bootloader menu. And there are heaps of how-to's available online. Many things are customizable. Lighting behaviour through to enabling of tv on the go if you have that option. Auto folding mirrors, different dash menu options, how many wipes the wipes do etc, list is not quite endless but almost, needless to say I've done most and can provide links etc if you are interested. Pm me.

Oh... If I am not mistaken Cyanogen do have issues with Music over Bluetooth. I have the same issue.. Have you tried with other Roms?
Yes I have, it doesn't even try to be honest... only time the connection from phone to car is made is when a call comes in.
I am in the search for the best, well best for a descent price that is probably double din card stereo with the best Android integration.
By that I mean mainly blue tooth and usb.
I know based on some of the bluetooth protocols there are quite a range of things that can be integrated (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth#Bluetooth_protocol_stack)
For example pluging into USB and the deck seeing the internal memory as well as SD Card to be able to play files from it, bluetooth being able to push music to the deck as well as the deck being able to communicate with apps such as pandora to skip tracks and such from the deck.
My searches thus far have lead to me this model http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWHR81B/JVC-KW-HDR81BT.html?showAll=N&search=KW-HDR81BT&skipvs=T
But I know there is one more bluetooth feature I would like and that is (MAP) Message Access Profile, which allows for text related messages to the deck for text to speech functions an such. (http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_...tooth-do-besides-make-calls-abcs-of-car-tech/)
So anyone have ideas, I think there are new models announced close to this time of year right?
Anyone have good suggestions for a review site?

That looks very cool but my phone is not on the list plus it seems like something that is in its infancy still. I think a broader technology like bluetooth that could be compatible with many more devices may be a better way of connecting. I think that kind of thing will be awesome in a few years when they nail down a standard for communicating audio/video to the head unit, almost like the head unit is just a monitor to the phone and a touchscreen monitor at that.
I'm actually looking for the same thing right now. I don't want to spend $500+ dollars on a head unit when I could buy a nexus tablet to do everything for half that. But I do want a stand alone radio that I can use with a phone or streaming data, plus a built in amp with preamp outs would be perfect.
App Radio 2 has many issues.

I just purchased the App Radio 2, and am returning it to Crutchfield. The screen is nice looking, but otherwise it is the single most disappointing electronic device I have ever purchased. I won't go into the long list of complaints about the device, as the hatred I now have for it could destroy a small city. Suffice to say that the unit functions as designed, but was likely designed by a team of engineers who had never seen a car, radio, phone or normal human being. There are a few threads here for people who are still trying to make the device worthwhile, with a particular success in the ARLiberator App.
I'm tempted to try that out, but the reality is the radio software itself is the problem in my opinion. It would be great to use the ARLiberator phone functions, but I don't like the firmware of the radio.
I'm looking at other options and right now the Parrot Asteroid Smart is a front-runner. I'm conflicted as it has runs Android 2.3 and I was hoping for something more current. Search around on the forum for more details on both before you purchase, there are many potential show stoppers.

Get an android based double din radio, make sure its dual core, 1G Ram, DAB+ supported, 6.2-7" TFT capacitive touch screen, steering wheel controls supported and accepts WiFi dongle. you will have the mighty Google Play store to satisfy your imagination.
obviously such a unit would support most of the Bluetooth profiles.
I noticed few units on ebay but not from any known manufacturer. best i found was from some German supplier icar-tech
Alpha V800 and Alpha S600 are the ones, I haven't confirmed all the above requirements that I would wanna see in my next head unit.
Good Luck

You want Android in your car...install a tablet in the dash. That's the best option, or you could go with the Parrot. But from the reviews I've seen I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I wanted to get in on this thread to see if anyone has actually pulled the trigger and bought something yet.
I share the same mentality -- the phone/tablet can handle most of the "smart" functions. All that's needed is rock-solid bluetooth support. If it does great USB, that's a huge bonus.
I have one of the older Pioneer stereos that first did Bluetooth. I got it around 2007. The market has matured a lot since then and I'm itching for an upgrade.

I've had a look around many different forums and stores, and I'm still at square one. I totally agree that all that's needed is rock-solid bluetooth support.
I've been into a few shops in the last few days and BT paired my GS2 running CM11 and Google Play Music with some head units....for what they can do via bluetooth, they all seem to do a decent job of it......I can skip/pause songs on either the head unti or the phone, Google Play Music on the phone updates as you switch songs on the HU.
But what it doesn't seem capable of (that I've seen or read about), which apparently iPhones can do, is change albums, browse by artist/genre, search, etc.....beyond the most basic of back/next/pause functions, unless I'm mistaken, it's just not possible when BT pairing an Android phone with any head unit on the market.
Can anyone definitively confirm that this is or is not true?
Well.... Now that android auto is in the making, maybe there will be some better offerings available for those of us looking for a good stereo!

Until then what are we supposed to do ..buy an IPhone?
I have a Google Nexus 4 and went too the effort of looking into the options. I find it utterly amazing in an Android phone you can't browse albums over bluetooth its simply a joke!
The best option would be to try to maybe get a double DIN car stereo with support some kind of screen mirroring so you can change album from the touch screen maybe something like a AVIC-F60DAB but it costs a grand would be cheaper for me to buy an IPhone!!!
I belive you need the AVRCP standard if you want the track listing to display on your headset via Bluetooth.
Even if I could get a Car Stereo to support my mobile..the big problem with the Google nexus and it seems many Android devices they don't support Bluetooth very well. There is a bug in the Nexus 4 so that when you are using bluetooth in your car stereo after a while Bluetooth will just turn off Google don't seem to care about fixing this..I don't really want to get an Apple but if means I can listen to Music via Bluetooth and get access to Google Music then why not.!!
I have a Double Din car stereo. It's the Pioneer AppRadio 3 and it works well mirroring my Nexus 5. There's an app called "AppRadio Unchained" which let's you control your phone via the touch screen of the stereo. The only downside is the lack of power on the radio which makes the scrolling not as fast as any Android phone nowadays, but the Bluetooth has been working non-stop for me.
I had to buy an HDMI dapter to make it compatible though.
I've had a look at these but they are expensive! Maybe if I get a raise I'll buy one haha!
I was hoping to get something similar, but without having to use a HDMI adapter, a completely wireless solution would be kick ass!
Hi fellow xda'ers
I got the 4.3 OTA today for my Nexus 4 and the problem of stuttering bluetooth audio persists for me.
This is in reference to the bug described here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39633
I also unpaired my phone and re-paired it but still facing the same problem.
So, just wanted to ask around...
1. Is anyone still facing this same bluetooth audio bug like me in Android 4.3?
2. Can anyone who had this bug in 4.2.2 confirm that it got resolved for them in Android 4.3?
Thanks..

I'm not really sure, what's happening.
I tried earlier on with Poweramp Player (third party app) and Google Play Music, I had stuttering in both the apps.
Then I decided to unpair the phone/stereo, change the phone name and then re-pair. Just wanted a fresh start..
After that, I had the stuttering problem whenever I used Poweramp player. The problem happens within 5-7 min. However, when I use Google Play Music, it seems to work fine. However, I haven't tested it for long. Maybe 1 hour max, so can't say if my hypothesis is correct but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. After 7 months with this phone, I really need to get Bluetooth working.

I'm in the same boat. But I really am wondering if looking at the software/apps used is the wrong method. I've been doing the same thing. Over the past 7 months I've tried various ROMs, kernels, radios etc. and nothing changes it. I've talked about it with various friends with Nexus 4's and none of them seem to have any issues.
At this point my money is on the Clarion stereo being the issue but I still have not tested the phone with another stereo. This weekend we are visiting my parents. I will try using the phone with the bluetooth on my Mom's 2013 4Runner and my Dad's 2010 F150 to see if I can replicate the problem. If it works with both their cars then I will be in the market for a new stereo.

I will try using the phone with the bluetooth on my Mom's 2013 4Runner and my Dad's 2010 F150 to see if I can replicate the problem. If it works with both their cars then I will be in the market for a new stereo.

I was wrong btw. The problem came back for Play Music too :crying:
Don't know what to do...
Using all stock 4.3 and btooth working perfectly. Using it right now. I just have a $50 lg headset but have no issues.
Not sure what's up with your device man

It seems the problem is with our Clarion car stereo indeed. A lot of Clarion stereos have bluetooth issues:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t12082313-bluetooth_audio_streaming_breaks_up
http://community.crutchfield.com/car_audio_and_video/f/27/receivers/t/22006/clarion-cx501-bluetooth
Phones like iPhone 4, Lumia 920 and Moto Razr also seem to have these problems.
My stereo CX501 doesn't have any bluetooth firmware upgrade too. Though, they have provided some firmware update for some other stereos like NX501 and so on. So you should check out on their site for a firmware upgrade.
http://www.clarion.com/us/en/support/compatibility/bluetooth/index.html
I really think you're right. I tried streaming music through my girlfriend's car stereo last night and had absolutely no issues. I've also read the threads you linked to as well as a few others and the consensus is that Clarion keeps trying to pin the blame on the phones and not their receivers. Looks like it's time to change stereos...

You should at least check if there is a firmware upgrade available for you on Clarion's support site before spending on a new stereo.
Unfortunately, it's not available for my stereo CX501.
I have stuttering too on both my A2DP devices. Both are cheap: one is from DX, th eother is from a local 'dollar store' (where it was 10 euro or so).
The one from the dollar store seems to work fine after pairing, but not when connecting again.
The one from DX (z nice plug for the aux in of the car, with a mic and henadsfree speakers through the car audio) seems to stop stuttering after a few minutes. The audio level is a lot better with 4.3.
But no difference in stuttering beween 4.2.2 and 4.3.
Problems remain
I have found no improvement with my Nexus 7 with Android 4.3. I get stuttering every minute or so. I've done a bit of reading and found that Bluetooth is hellishly complex - and would be very difficult to debug. For instance to set up audio streaming, both devices need to agree on a codec to use. There is a default base level codec. As I have found that the issue is worse on some bluetooth receivers than others, I can only guess that the issue relates to Android's selection of a codec or other parameter on some devices. I certainly have no issue with any device streaming from my windows laptop (no matter how busy it is).
I have the exact same issues with bluetooth stuttering.
Using 4.2.2 PACman rom on my Note 2 with a Sony MW600 bluetooth adapter, the audio would switch off for a second every minute or so, whether using Google Play music or PowerAmp, but it seemed to happen less on the former.
Updating to 4.3 has made it worse, the audio now switches off for at least 5 seconds to the point where i have to check if the phone or app has crashed each time.
I never had an issue with the Revolution HD rom (I think its called?) but I believe that's mostly stock?
It kinda feels like the bluetooth can't handle the bandwidth depending on the size of the file. I think there's less stuttering on lower quality files - could just be in my head though.
I have a Galaxy S3 i747 running latest 4.3 CM10 rom. My audio stuttering actually got worse when upgrading from 4.2.2. Using platronics 903+ and a bluetooth stereo unit for my motorycle helmet.
Very disappointed. My work iPhone doesnt skip a beat.
I'm currently using an old iPhone 6 pretty much as an iPod to play music through the USB interface in my truck, but would love to be able to use my Axon 7, as I'm a paid subscriber to Play Music, and would like to not have to juggle between two phones just to listen to music. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Currently running RR 5.8.2
Did a quick search online, not particularly in this forum, but your truck might be mostly set up to "see" the iPhone's library or way of storing music, so hooking up your Axon 7 might not work the same way.
This thread mostly recommended connecting your phone via bluetooth or audio jack to bluetooth type connections.

Thanks, man. I've tried connecting through Bluetooth before though, and the truck's only set up to take calls through it, so the sound was horrible. I hate having to hook up through an auxiliary cable too, so I might not have any other option but to use the iPhone. Thank God for Cricket, their unlimited data plan, and tethering. Lol.
There is this, but it is very low-fidelity and not really good for anything but podcasts. I can't stream to the head unit in my car either, but I do have a 3.5 mm input. I'm looking into something like this.

I've wondered about those. Do you know if current track information is cast to the unit too?
I don't know for certain, but I very much doubt it. I'm in the process of sifting through the reviews on the different choices before deciding. I'll update the thread if I find anything useful.

Thanks, man. I may just end up heading to town and picking one up. Would still mean one less cable to get tangled up. Lol.
Joying JY-VOS01N4GS w/ an SC-9853i 1.8GHz Octa-core, installed in a 1991 Toyota MR2 with a Honda K24A2 turbo engine swapped into it, controlled by an ECU called a Hondata KPro V4.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/143309152617
I can install and run Hondata or RealDash apps on the stereo without issue, but I can't get it to connect to the ECU itself so I'm looking for suggestions. I've got a $20 no name tablet or a 7+ yrs old Samsung Note 3....all connect to the KPro without issue. Hondata, RealDash and Torque apps all connect without issue on the tablet or phone. New $350+ stereo...keeps giving me failed to connect error.
I'm open to rooting if needed, installing a different Bluetooth app, I have the pin to access developer options, etc....I just need it to connect and work.

It will not pair. Joying (actually FYT/SYU) crippled the bluetooth on their units. You can only pair with phones and a few OBD and TPMS BT devices.
For the rest: nothing.
And that is done onto the lowest compiled level including the MCU. Other drivers/apps/kernels/whatever will not work.
I've been writing Joying and they offered to sell me their OBDII dongle at a discount. I explained to them shortly before writing this post that the car doesn't have an OBDII port since it's a 91, lightly explained the engine sway, but I haven't heard anything yet. Why would they go through all that effort...just to force us to buy their $15 OBDII dongle?
What about universal Bluetooth dongle plugged into one of the USB cords? Or maybe even USB to USB? The ECU has a USB port that I use when I connect to my laptop to run KPro Manager (a Windows PC based program) and the RealDash app on Android does give me the option of Bluetooth, USB or serial input. I'm currently monitoring from this tablet which is completely illegible while driving, needs to be manually powered on/off and then reconnected to Bluetooth...not being able to see the gauges on a much larger screen and automatically reconnect when I start the car crushes EVERY reason why I bought this stereo. There's gotta be a way.
Wrote a long reply, stupid token expired...I'm gonna try this.

Bluetooth dongle didn't work, but I can't confirm if it's a dongle issue since I can connect to it but then the Hondata app says "Ignition not on" when it is. Nevertheless today I played around with the GF's cwr who has a Joying JY-HOS02P4 screen in hers, it's only 3 months old, and it'll connect to my Hondata just fine! Would it be as simple as taking the Bluetooth APK from her car and installing it on mine?
Bump for help...there's gotta be a way :/
Bumping again, hoping maybe someone can help.
Following - need this for ECUTEK bluetooth adapter in my GTR, otherwise the screen is worthless...

Like mentioned a couple of posts above. Joying crippled Bluetooth and there is simply no "normal" bluetooth stack.
You cannot alter the current BT app as it won't be signed correctly anymore and it will not even be visible anymore.
You cannot add another BT app as that will not have the correct signing either.
Your question is not new. This BT "not being able to pair" is already an issue since 2016. You would be the first to find a solution.
The only thing you can try is what I described in this post, based on info from ojuniour.
Having said that: you should also search the rest of the forum and not only stick to your own question. Otherwise you might already have tried what I described. It might work, it might not.
Surfer, thank you so much for the reply. I've read in depth and was fearful of that, but will try what is in the thread you linked. If you'd be so kind, couple questions that you may have answers to:
- I have a sofia 9853 with android 8.1 (upgrading to 9.0), does that make things better worse or same for the bluetooth situation?
- I've seen some talk on much older threads of using Comfast® CF-WU725B as an external/usb bluetooth solution? Did this (or an alternative dongle) ever or does it still work?
- I've also seen talk of used xposed modules to add bluetooth devices to the whitelist - is there any truth to this?
Surfer, thanks in advance, this is for a tesla screen in a GTR. By removing the stock screen we lose a ton of critical info that can only be gotten back through ecutek, which currently only has a bluetooth solution for android.
M5James - sorry for hijacking your thread, but hopefully this helps you as well

1. There is no Sofia 9853. There is a Intel Sofia AND an Intel SC9853i. Those are 2 different CPUs needing different ROMs.
2. No idea. Like mentioned: an external BT dongle has not worked till now, but I have never heard of that Confast one.
3. Xposed is not supported on the 9853i. Not on Android 8.1 and neither on 9.0
@surfer63, thank you again, your thread here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...qa-tips-info-roll-joying-fyt-sc9853i-t3979377) helped me tremendously
@m5james, on a whim i plugged in ecutek to usb via the usb mini port, and shockingly there is support for it. Maybe try the same with Hondata if there is an sort of interface on it.

Fair enough...honestly like 10 +/-yrs ago I was WAY more into custom ROMs, baking, etc etc but nowadays I feel like it's over my head again. The only reason why I asked about using other BT versions from other Joying devices is because the GF's similarily aged stereo was able to connect, but I understand the signing thing since our two stereos don't share the same OS and CPU.

Do you have a pic of how you physically hooked it up? I haven't touched much on this subject since my original post and honestly don't recall the connections at the moment but I do recall mine having a square port (I don't know it's official name) that allows me to connect via USB to a laptop. I think I even tried connecting directly to the stereo that way but no luck.
Hondata runs on the screen easily in both portrait and landscape mode but I prefer RealDash, which at doesn't like portrait mode...I'm hoping it's something I can adjust to fit myself since RealDash allows for customisable gauges.
@m5james that is a micro usb port you have, try connecting it to a usb port on the head unit (same way you would a laptop) and open your hondata app - with any luck you'll be in business. If one port doesn't work, try the other - good luck
If you guys want to use the bluetooth pairing with basically about anything then buy the "Stop" brand. Unit actually confess with 2 BT models. One for music and phone call, the other one is located in the android bluetooth setting that would enable you to pair with anything.

Wait wait wait. Wait a minute.... Are you saying you are able to get the ecuTek OBD bluetooth to work in wired mode[ to the head unit] without connecting to it wirelessly through bluetooth?
And you are using the ecuTek App?
