The stock charger on our Epic's put out 0.7AMP and it takes forever to charge the battery.
I have a 1.9AMP adapter from my Nook Color device, would the EPIC be able to handle that much amperage to charge the battery with?
Thanks...
I doubt it would matter, since the charging circuitry in the phone would control how much amperage it would draw. Just because the charger can do 1.9A doesn't mean it would charge at 1.9A
The epic only draws .6A max. anything more than that is a waste.

My epic seems to charge quick. Maybe I just dont know how quick its suppose to be. Whats an average charging time for you?

2 hours from 10% to 100% The evo and iphone I had before the epic would charge up a lot faster. Epic seems to take 3-3.5 hours on average.
It takes me about 2 hours to 2.5 from a dead battery.

Mine takes about 3 hours to charge 100% (or 95% since the epic will not charge fully). This is a considerable amount of time considering my HTC Diamond would fully charge in about 1 hour. That's disappointing that more amperage will not decrease charge times.

Thats the other thing I hate about both the evo and Epic vs the iPhone I had, it never seems to charge past 95%
my epic goes up to 96% after a night charging. If I use an external charger then it goes up to 100%
I use Nook (NOT color) adapter to charge my Epic overnight. I never had any issues with it although I don't know if it is the same amperage as the one from Color. I did not notice that it charges any slower or faster then the stock adapter I use sometimes during the day or when I travel.
I use my Palm Pre charger and it makes my Epic charge faster.

This is the first I've heard of charging problems with the epic. Mine is mostly stock, but has no problem charging to 100% via wall charger or usb...???...
Wall charging ins't a problem for me...I need a car charger that works better. I've found that if I'm running navi and streaming music at the same time, the car charger is charging at a lower rate that what I'm draining and will eventually the battery will still die. It happened only once to me when the phone was already nearly dead, I plugged it in, did my usual music and navi, then about 20 minutes in my phone shutoff.
For those who are having issues with car chargers charging too slow, its because they are charging at USB speeds and not at wall outlet speeds. The wall outlet charges almost twice as fast as the USB does.
My car charger was doing the same, so I modified a 6 inch Male to Female USB cable to solve the problem. Pretty much followed a guide just like this:
http://forums.psp-hacks.com/f133/howto-create-non-usb-mode-usb-charger-cable-t255924/
Then I plug a standard USB cable into the charging adapter I just made and instantly double the charging speeds, at a cost of however many pennies the 6 inch adapter cost. I had one on hand, so nothing for me. This is of course assuming that your car charger is of the USB variety, although the guide MIGHT work on a non USB variety.
My car charger isn't a USB style, it's just a standard cigarette lighter base to a MicroUSB.
The Epic does not charge faster than 700 maH so anything higher is not charging your device faster its all in your head.
I feed it with a 1500mah charger and it's fully charged in less than 90mins w/ screen on. Using USB takes 4+hrs. USB is supposed to provide 500mah, some devices provide more, though quite a bit provide less. It's why unpowered USB HDDs don't work on a lot of devices.
Well I can look at the clock and see a diffence from charging with the Pre charger and the Epic charger, sorry to disagree but you are wrong. I don't understand the technology behind it but it does charge faster all you need to do is drain the phone down to 25% and charge on night with the Epic charger and use the stopwatch function. On the next night use the Palm Pre charger, you wil be suprised.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
The only difference in charging speed is usb d pins shorted or not. The phone caps at 300 if it is usb or 600 if d pins are shorted.
Oh and the reason some don't charge to full is usually battery calibration.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I wish we could charge the phones faster, but from everything I have seen and tested, its just not gonna happen. The phone is capped at charging at around 638 mA/h if I remember correctly from the wall charger, and around half of that from USB. I have tested multiple chargers including the iPad charger I have which is 2.1 amps, and the phone charges at the exact same rate.

Sarcasm, haha laugh a little.
But really, do you guys notice that it takes a long time for the battery to charge?
I think when available, I'll buy a bunch of batteries just to have handy.
well the battery is 1500mAh the nexus charged pretty quickly but it was 1400mAh i am not sure how much difference 100mAh will make on charging the battery but that could be a possibility.
Charging with the computer will always be slower, if that's what you're using.
I wonder if its the charger. The provided charger has an output rating of 0.7A. I know some microusb chargers I have seen are rated as high as 1.0A. That could be the difference.

Interesting...that could be. However, maybe it's 0.7A for a reason? Perhaps the battery needs to have it at that "flow rate." ???
We did get a different charger over the i9000, they had a separate USB cable and microUSB wall charger. We obviously don't have that setup.
Some phones have Li-Pol batteries and they have to charge differently. This could be why it's taking so long to recharge.
check a tmobile store or website for the new portable micro usb charger. charges your phone on the go and recharges itself via a usb charger the vibrant ships with or your computer. i got mine and was a lifesaver the other night when i needed to leave my house with 10% charged.
I hate saying this, but: I literally LOL'd from the title of this thread.
I completely agree. Charging takes fuggin' forever. My guess would be that turning the device off helps speed this up, tremendously. But of course, who wants to do that?
That said, battery life has been impressively long, provided you turn off Samsung's widgets. :/

That would be a huge design oversight if a generic charger caused problems with the battery. I'm sure Samsung thought about the user charging with a generic charger.

I have conditioned my battery twice and going from empty with the phone off and pluged into the wall not via usb-pc, took me over 4hrs each time.
If the charger is 0.7 going to a 1.0 would be a huge improvement. The only worry would be the extra heat and problems that might cause. With NiMH batteries quick charging is preferable to slow charging, is this the same for Li-ion?
came here for insight as well, woke up at like 5am, phone was almost dead, 10% battery or so
turned it off, plugged it in to the wall charger and it is now 8am and it is maybe 60-70% charged
what the hell?
with my g1 turned off i can go from 0 to 100% charge in like an hour or so using a USB port. now i know the battery is smaller but c'mon... this is ridiculous.
Could it be that the phone just has to break in? When I first got G1 it would take about 4 hours to charge I remember, now a year and a half later I can get it to 80-90 percent in 1 and a half.
The computer USB standard is 100 to 500 milliamp, the USB walloulet adapter (charger) Is 700 milliamp, our batteries are 1500 milliamp and that's why.
USB cables have a certain standards witch includes voltage and current standards.
If you want a fast charger look for a hard wired 1000-1200 milliamp charger with a micro USB connector on ebay.

I was wondering if there were any more powerful batteries I could get for my Focus. 1500 mAh is alright but I'd like somewhere above 1700 since I'm a heavy data user. Also, anyone noticing ****ty charging off of usb(computer)?

Unless you use a DC car charger. Thats full charge in about 2-3 hours.
That I understand but I put it on USB from my MacBook overnight and my phone was dead in the morning. 1% battery. Any my macbook was plugged in so it was more than happy to charge my phone. I think USB is trickle charge only. Any bigger batteries available for this phone though?
Probably soon. It's still early. However, the battery is the same as the one in other Samsung phones such as the Sprint 4G Epic, so if you ordered that size you're good to go. An oversize batter will require a new back of course.
USB charging is horrible... On my old Xperia X1 USB charging rocked, so I'm not used to this.
I'm a heavy user too, especially since now I can do more than just Exchange e-mail, hahaha.
Is it alright to have the SGT plugged into a USB port all day (approx 9hrs) ? I'd like to have it keep its charge (maybe even gain a little) while I'm at work so I can have a decent amount of juice for the trip home and until i go to bed. Or is this a good way of burning out my battery real quick? Thoughts?
Oh and as a side note on USB charging, I was able to get from 15% to 99% in 7hrs with the screen off the whole time.
Is it a slow-charging USB port? Or is it a powered hub? If I'm not mistaken, slow-charging a lithium-ion based battery pack is actually better for its life as opposed to rapid charging.
Its the regular port on the PC not even high speed usb so i guess it isn't powered.hmm guess the charging part is OK..but what about leaving it plugged all day even if the battery is at 100%?

All usb ports are powered by definition. They can supply up to 500ma (half an amp). Dont worry about leaving your tab plugged in, devices are smart enough these days not to overcharge the battery.

Coda is right, technically they all have power . If not, how would any device charge? I guess I really meant to say USB ports charge at a higher MA or something for rapid charging (wall-socket USB adapters?).
Also, Coda is right again. Devices these days are fairly smart. I typically leave my HD2 plugged in all the time with no problems.
itll be just fine plugged in!
ive been part-charging mine at random intervals (sometimes for 20 mins at a time a few times a day) and leaving it charging over a day from both powered hub and charger over about five months... though i have had two or three near total discharges
the battery has got better, which is what you would expect from the tech - sammy even provides a nice notification telling you the device is fully chraged
i wonder if they put that in there to account for unexpected battery problems down the line? in any case, ive read that low-powered charging, even unregistered by the battery, will increase the lifetime of the battery and also charge at approximately the same rate... ive seen this with my phones charging over pc usb
Great! Nothing to worry about then. The tab would look really cool on my office desk sporting the same screensaver as my PC ..'the Matrix' scrolling code.
I think it is OK. I bought a 2d adapter, one for the office. Since Sammy is selling docks, it also means that it can be powered all times. On the other hand I remember my Archos which I used to leave it on its dock all times... battery was killed in a short time. When you sell multimedia charging docks it means that you can leave it there, no? Not in the case of Archos.

Mine doesn't it keeps going up, though I haven't tried playing games. It does depend on what you are doing with the device, if you are running applications that max out the processor it will possibly drop.
The GSII would drain while plugged in if the screen was on. You would see a noticeable drain while using GPS and Music and driving. The only way to make it work was to turn the screen off on the device, the GSIII has a better charging chip in it, and it isn't limited to 650maH (from what I can tell since it is charging when using GPS)
I noticed it while using a usb car cigarette adapter as well as a usb port on my laptop. the car adapter is a 2 amp charger capable of charging a tablet. I will see how it performs with the oem wall charger.

I'm curious about this myself....I'm leaning towards not leaving mine plugged all night. I 2 have done this in the past with other phones and can't be certain but maybe this is a rEason I had horrible batt life despite efforts to Better it. So I'm gonna stick with charging/topping off when I can. Gonna start just charging when I wake up while I'm getting ready for work. I did notice that when battery is completely charged a message comes up telling u so and to unplug. So I'm gonna follow directions haha.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA
All modern smartphones have chips that control power, and cycle charging appropriately to not abuse the battery. Many phones monitor the temp of the battery and such to ensure a good and safe charge. You can leave it plugged in overnight just fine..
It definitely doesn't like 3rd party adapters. I'm hoping it will at least accept the tab adapter with samsung's cable so that I can charge it at work without buying a dozen chargers, but...
(One charger I used is understandable - turns out its only 300ma. Whoops! But using full 1A chargers wasn't helping either, it went up maybe 1% every 15 mins. The stock charger ran it up fast enough that it was charged from 70% in under an hour.)
I use SetCPU and have a setting to reduce the clock when it exceeds a temperate parameter. You could also set a max clock for when it is plugged into a USB (Computer/Car charger). That could help it stay cooler and charge faster while not plugged into the wall.
I charged from empty to full this morning when plugged into the wall in about 3 hours. I haven't tested on my computer yet.
I went through this when I first got my Evo 4G. I did not realize at the time that the 500mA charger I was using with my Blackberry Storm (horrible device) would not charge my Evo while doing anything power intensive (like using GPS) and I quickly drained it on a car trip.
I went on Amazon and bought a $20 Schosche iPad charger that claimed to provide 2.1A which should be plenty. On that charger the phone would charge while using GPS but very, very slowly.
After some more research I found that some chargers caused the phone to switch into "USB" charging mode and others would switch it to "AC" mode which would draw much more power and charge faster.
This is the charger I ended up with and it works great:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10826&cs_id=1082602&p_id=6766&seq=1&format=2
My Evo charges just as fast as it does on the OEM wall charger. I don't have my SIII yet (thanks Verizon for being the LAST in the US to ship them out...) so I can't yet say if this holds true for the SIII but I assume it will. At $1.22 it's not much of a gamble.
How are those who've got their N10 finding the charging speed? Mine arrived yesterday and has been charging very slowly, as the reviews had said.
In six hours last night on charge whilst left on standby, it charged about 20%. Is everybody else finding a similar situation?
I'm looking forwards to the pogo-pin chargers/docks being released, which will hopefully charge a bit faster! If anybody knows how to hack something together to make use of the faster charging speed on the pogo connection then please do share! :good:
Of course, you have to look at the amperage and watt of your power supply. Even among the AC powered chargers, they vary greatly, and here you are talking about charging this behemoth with a measly powered USB.

Not messed up, just physics. There's an awful lot of resistance in a 9000MaH battery, and a standard microUSB (or even full-sized USB) connector can't handle the amperage that a faster charge would require. Which is why most big tablets had proprietary connectors up to this point.
But guess what? Google and Samsung knew this, it's why the N10 has one too, we just don't have the cable for it yet.
Pogo charger is coming, supposed to be at least twice as fast. Don't know why it was delayed, but most likely either a certification issue, or worry about Apple suing for it being too much like a Mag Safe connector.

I don't even charge phones via normal USB on PC anymore, let alone a tab. I've found the charging time on the N10 to be ok, provided the screen is off and also if I'm downloading something it seems to slow the charging down. Other than that it's not lightning fast, sure, but I'm ok with it. And so much the better when they release the pogo charger.
charged mine over night yesterday from 10% to full wall mains, but when the screen is one it doesn't seem to charge just maintains current charge which is a bit annoying

Try turning anything that uses power off (i.e)...turn the screen brightness the lowest it will go, turn the tablet on airplane mode. Turn the sounds off.
I find that helps my phone charge faster, maybe this will help with the tablet.
Are you talking about charging via USB on a PC, or via the PSU?
Through the PC will be very slow at a maximum of 500mA, but the PSU should be able to power it? My N7 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 had 2A chargers - what does the N10 come with?
