Only one keyboard, input method menu option still showing - EVO 4G General

I installed swiftkey today to play around with it but uninstalled it. However now the input method menu option is still showing in text fields, even though android keyboard is the only choice. Anyone know how to get rid of this? Restarting and reinstalling / uninstalling swiftkey did not help. Thanks.

try clearing data for the keyboard?

Nice idea....no dice though!

Well this is odd...I restored a nandroid from before I installed swiftkey (only had android keyboard as an option) and the input method menu option is still there. Is this how its always been on cyanogenmod or something and I never noticed? I know it used to not show up, but now I don't know when that changed.

So you got it working? If not then go into MENU>SETTINGS>LANGUAGEAND KEYBOARDS and puput a check mark in the box for your keyboard and then long press in a text field and it should be there.

I think the problem is that he can't get the option for the keyboard to go away, not that he can't get it to show up. I've never heard of a problem like this. How did you uninstall Swiftkey?

Yeah that's the problem, its not that the option for swiftkey is still there, its that the "input method" menu option is present in all text field context menus, and when you choose it, the only option is "android keyboard". I believe that in the past, if you only had one keyboard, "input method" did not show up at all. So I restored a nandroid to before I installed swiftkey, and "input method" is still showing despite having only one keyboard, which is why I'm confused.
I just uninstalled swiftkey the regular way from the running tab of applications.
So, if you're running cm6.1, do you see "input method" even with only one keyboard installed?

Ahhh, I see. The input method will always show up, regardless of how many keyboards you have. This happens to everyone and to my knowledge it isn't a bug.

Okay thanks for clearing that up. I believe with the stock Sense ROM it removed that option when only one keyboard was enabled, but I guess I never noticed it didn't behave that way in AOSP/Cyanogen.

By "Settings" do you mean in the settings menu, or when you long press and select "Input Method"?
settings menu, where should I long press??? In the keyboard itself it wont work..
Thanks !
I had a similar problem where my swype keyboard completely disappeared. Switching to a different keyboard and back didn't remedy the problem. To get it back, I uninstalled swype and reinstalled it, now it works like new.

I did reinstall and that did the trick, cheers

Very stupid question regarding swype

I've spent forever trying to find an enter button on here but it seems only samsung and android keyboards have one by default. Is there a special swype technique or am I just blind?
Edit: it shows up on text input fields but not in the messaging app when I need it most, in its place is a button for smileys, any way to bring back the enter button?
Nope, there is a tab-like button though.
The arrow key in the lower right corner is functioning like an enter/return key on my swype keyboard.
See, just used it.
Oh, there it goes again!

Updated op, yeah I see it here but not in the text messaging app try it there
Is it really that hard to hit the send button instead?
Use Handscent
If you use Handcent instead of the built in messaging app for mms/sms, Swype does not show the smiley key where the enter key should be. There are so many more reasons than just that to use Handcent. It's free and on the market to download, give it a shot.

No it's not but I don't wanna bombard the people I'm texting with multiple texts at the same time.
And to whoever mentioned handcent, I might try it again because it was my favorite texting app on my g1 but the newer updates were really buggy, I'll see how the latest version runs on my vibrant thanks!

use Google Voice, they provide FREE unlimited text messaging. there are cons of course, you have to use it within the Google Voice app and it isn't the best interface for it but if it gives me free text messaging then its whatever.

Unfortunately, Google Voice only works in the US.

I don't see any advantage Handcent has over the stock Vibrant messaging app besides being able to change bubble and background colors.
Whats so special about it?
I second this one.... We need an enter key in swype for text messaging. Sometimes you have to send address in a text message and you need to enter like this:
mr. x y
1234 xyz ave
abc city, xx state
wonder if you can update swype somehow if there is a newer version with fix?
I had this same problem with swype when I got mine. A friend told me about swiftkey as an alternative keyboard. Have to say that I think it is a much better keyboard than swype and the default Android one.
I know that is not a fix but maybe it will help you do want you need.

Try the touchpal keyboard. Its surprisingly good, just disable chinese as the default language.

Swipe, how to turn on?

This may turn out to be an inane question, but I have had my unlocked Galaxy S I9000 for two weeks and have not been able to figure out how to turn on the Swipe keyboard feature. I have suffered through the tutorial where the feature worked just fine but unless I overlooked something there was no mention of turning the feature either on or off. All of the feature's adjustments under the settings heading appear to be initiated so, what have I missed?
Thank you in advance.
On my hero I have to first go into SETTINGS, LANGUAGE & KEYBOARD, then de-select my htc keyboard and select swype

Hold your finger where you input text, go to input method and select swype.

Samsung Keyboard Issue

Okay here's the deal, on all my other devices, when I would use Google Talk(hangouts) or any other app that required entering text I always had the return/enter key. Now with this note 3, where the enter key would be, it's set as the emoticons button..... Not in all apps ie: tap talk seems to be the only one with the enter key still and in the browsers also. I using the stock keyboard and have even tried using the Google keyboard in the play store. Same issue. How do I get my enter/return key back while in messaging apps...... I fancy myself to be pretty android savy but this is my first sammy phone. Is it hard coded in and I'm SOL? Any help/ideas are appreciated. Thanks

Interesting, does pressing/holding shift not change it to return? Otherwise try resetting settings. Never had this issue with the stock keyboard so not too sure. What apps does it change to smileys in?

Mine is the same, noticed it for whatsapp first then hangouts (when /i used for default sms) - It's cause the style of the Apps move the send button up towards the text bar.

Yeah idk maybe sammy thinks that people don't need to add a line break in messaging apps. I never used it to send, I actually use it to start another line of text

Tip: Disable "Select input method" in notification area

I noticed after selecting Google keyboard as default keyboard and disabling "Show app icon" in Advanced settings for Google keyboard, the "Select input method" notification icon is still visible.
I figured out that disabling the app "Swype for Honor" will make the icon disappear.
Of course. That icon let's you choose between keyboards. Disabling one will give you no choices at all.

Ya I'm aware of this. It just annoyed me so I fixed the issue.
Just might uninstall the unused keyboard and make system more snappy.

True. But Swype for Honor can't be disabled without root. I have root, but others may not. This is why I created this thread.

There is another issue: I use Swiftkey and I can not disable both huawei and google keyboard. If I do it after the first usage it will turn itself back on. The only way to turn the icon off if you use a 3rd party keyboard is when you start to type tap and hold on the notification in the notification bar. Than you can disable the notification for selecting keyboard. Unfortunatelly what this all does that you won't see the tiny icon at the top but you will have the notification in the notification center (which basicly you won't see unless you pull down the center.). Obviously these are the options withouth root with it you can do whatever you want

That's not my experience. I've uninstalled all keyboards and replaced them with a updated Swipe and it really feels quicker to launch keyboard.
Other way to do it is to clean data, stop app, then disable it. It might ask if we want to uninstall updates and that's a yes.
