Hello all,
I like using the "Stay Awake" option (Settings -> Applications -> Development) on my phone so that while it is in my dock at work/car the screen stays on. I've noticed in all Froyo roms, this option gets cleared on every reset. Is this something the devs here can fix?
Thanks!
Anyone?
BUMP
I have the same problem. It's very annoying.
It happens to me on both EB13 and EC05. These were stock installs and I did factory resets 3 times via the stock recovery.
I wonder if it's intentional on Sprint/Samsung's part?
*bump* *bump*
Don't feel bad. They still haven't fixed it in EI22. I've been having this problem since we were in the EB13 days. It's very sad. At least it will stick until you reboot. But that's not even a saving grace...
Yea...i'm on EI22 now and this problem still exists. I was wondering if anyone had ever released a fix for it...I bumped this to show that there's a vented interest

For some reason when my phone times out and attemps to sleep is wakes right back up on its own. Anyone else experencing this?

Yes. It happens on my girlfriend's Epic consistently. I read a complaint on the Sprint website about it as well. I have Captivate and have never experienced, but appears to be a problem with the Epic.
My stock Epic goes to sleep mode without any issues. Try checking to see if there are any programs running in the background and make sure you have "Power Saving mode" checked in settings also having your phoned modded/rooted might effect the stock sleep state setting.
Same thing on my wife's epic. Pretty annoying, not to mention bad on the battery.

Phone is stock, power saving mode on, used Task Killer to close any apps that could be causing it to stay on, no luck. Setting an unlock pattern does not change anything either (not that I really thought it would).
It seems like a bug to me because the screen clearly times out after however long you have it set, but then very shortly after comes back on and does not time out again.
I have the same problem. It seems to be an issue with the micro SD slot. When I remove the card and start up the phone, there is no problem. But, if the card is in when it starts up, the screen will timeout after 15 seconds, but turn right back on a couple seconds later. I've also noticed that problem persists even when an unmounted card is present in the slot, but as soon as I take the SD card out, the issue resolves. I've tried two different micro SD cards and the same thing happens with both, so it must be an issue with the actual slot.
Samsung has no idea how to fix this problem. I've sent my phone in to them twice and they have not fixed the problem at all.
I know this thread is very, very old, but I haven't seen this answer posted elsewhere, so hopefully this helps.
I had same problen since owning this phone. Try odining the stock rom. For me, I was accustomed to lock it with power button as this doesn't make phone wake up.
Right now I'm on leak gingerbread rom and I dont have problem with phone waking up by itself. So if you are really annoyed try gingerbread rom. I recommend randomking's rom. Stock leak rom doesn't have issues with Phone waking up.

Ok odd thing keeps happening. My epic will randomly power off but will not power back on until i do a battery pull. I am currently running 2.2.1 RandomRom 2.2 Final EC05. I dont think it is the rom but who knows. Any Ideas would be great! Thanks Everyone in advance.
Do you use setcpu or anything like that? Some phones dont like to run below 200mhz.

Nope not running anything. It only does it when the phone is not charging. If its on the charger it stays on. If i pull it off the charger it could turn off 20min to 3 hrs later.

My last one did that, but it was because I dropped it. Have you ruled out a hardware problem?
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G via Tapatalk
Not that i know of. Its never been dropped. I wonder if i should factory reset and start all over. I just dont know what else it could be.
It's most likely that it's a third party app causing the issue.
That said, the best way to exonerate the software is to ODIN to the stock EC05. If it does it with that, it's probably a hardware issue. If it doesn't, it's probably a ROM or kernel issue.
P.S. it's humorous that RandomROM might be causing RandomREBOOTS.
Haha.....yea. I liked it at first but guess its back to finding something new.
Yeah I'm having a similar problem also but only recently like no more then a couple weeks... my phone doesn't shut down completely but it randomly restarts itself and the ODD thing is that when it would power back up it would be in AIRPLANE mode. No matter how many times I tryed to disable airplane mode it just would not turn off! Even after I would shut down my phone and power back up it was still in airplane mode. So I took out the battery for a couple of seconds and put it back in, powered up and every thing works fine again... its only happened about 3 times I'm running that new gingerbread leak so that might be the issue but I've been rnning it for a while now and only recently had this problem with the phone.
I run ACS Frozen 1.2 have the same issues, I've had the same issue since froyo sourced roms have come out.... phone randomly powers off..... only happens maybe once or twice a week. It happened extremely more frequently before I changed back to RFS and turned journaling on. It didn't completely correct the problem, but it helped a lot.
Nothing like waiting for a text back from your GF only to find out that your phone has turned off sometime in the last hour since you sent out a text. I call it "The Samsung **** Block"
this happens to me sometimes, if you have journaling off, something might be corrupted. when the phone tries to access the corrupted data it puts the phone in an infinite loop, you might notice a huge decrease in battery life when you do reboot. A fresh clean install is the best way to fix it.

Ever since I installed the Wifi based TW ROM I have had issues with the wifi stopping. The issue continues with the official rom (with root and deoxed). It is set to be on in software but says disconnected. If I reboot device it works fine again.
Anyone else have this issue? I am very close to going back to stock even though I like the new way of doing notifications.
Same problem here. Simple way to solve it to enable and disable Airplane Mode... But yeah.. its really annoying. So any fix would be very helpful.
I've had the same problem recently. Did either of you install the free wifi server app that the Amazon store offered a day or two ago? That's when it seemed to start so I just removed it so see if that fixes my issue... here's hoping!
Same problem here, but it just started the day before yesterday. I've had Touchwiz since a day or two after I bought the device (almost two weeks). Hadn't thought to toggle airplane mode, thanks for that tip. Beats power cycling every morning.

I had similar issue with the stock Galaxy rom. Since the TouchWhiz update however, it has been running extremely well.
So after uninstalling the WiFi File Explorer Pro my WiFi has worked fine without any connection issues. Just like before and after TW. I also had a weird issue that wouldn't recognize finger presses on the lockscreen after waking up once every 10 to 20 times.
If you installed this app or something similar it might be worth a shot to remove it.
Hi Guys,
I'm not sure if this is related to 4.4.2 or its a hardware issue, I've only noticed this issue this week.
When I wake my N10 and if I flip the screen around before unlocking it, it will hang and reboot.
It happens every time after putting the N10 to sleep for a few mins.
If I unlock it without rotating then flipping the screen around its fine.
Has anyone else had this issue? Anyway to fix it?
Hi
Just did it and it worked fine for me, I'm also running 4.4.2... You may want to try a factory reset before issuing this as a hardware problem

Same behavior exactly observed on my tablet, during last week. I suspect something went wrong with the newest updates.
Random crashes with reboots, mainly when rotating on lock screen. Tried a factory reset, however, problem still persists.
Never had a single problem with my Nexus until now, worked like a charm. Also, I have not installed new Apps which to blame for this problem.
At the moment I'm trying things like disabling rotation or pattern unlocking, will see if something works.
I think I've seen this as well, on KOT49H. Not sure exactly how to reproduce it, but it's happened a few times.
Do you have modded/unlocked system? My nex is working like never before. It is twice as smooth and stable as it was on 4.3
I have never rooted/moded this tab and never ever had issues with it...
tapped from my nex
Well, disabling rotation seems to improve the issue a little bit, the random reboots are still there, but just less frequent.
Yesterday I had a couple of hangs-reboots doing simple tasks, like checking GMAIL or interacting with Google Currents widget.
In my opinion, this is not a hardware problem, it is, somehow, related with the 4.4.2. KOT49H update. My N10 worked perfect until this last update.
Ironically, I read somewhere that this update fixes the random reboot problem in a lot of faulty tablets. In my particular case, the "fix" seems to trigger the issue in my tablet
It is worth mentioning that my system is not modded or unlocked.
Updating situation ...
During the last week I have used the N10 With the automatic rotation disabled, in landscape mode. Non a single reboot.
This afternoon I just enabled automatic rotation again and the tablet rebooted itself almost instantly, at the second orientation change.
So, IMHO, This issue is only rotation-based, nothing to do with the lockscreen. It is kind of annoying.
Any help?

Hi,
Do you mind sharing a logcat when it happens? It would help a lot to see what's causing the problem.

I never had this problem, but I just tried rotating twice before unlocking, and sure enough that does it.
There are still so many things that cause this device to reboot. I love the hardware, but god is it ever unstable
This is, I hope, my final update regarding this situation..
Well, It is kind of embarrassing to inform that the problem is, apparently, gone. I didnĀ“t do anything to solve it.
So, it looks like some app or widget was causing the instability, and it must be fixed now via a recent update. Honestly I have no clue about who the culprit was..
Thanks, anyway, for your comments and support, and happy new year
Same issue
So it seems I have the same issue too, except I have a Galaxy S4 Touchwiz 4.3. Anytime I go into landscape mode, boom it freezes and reboots. If I disable rotation, then it'll just keep randomly freezing throughout the day. Never happened before, everything was happy go lucky and then I don't know what happened. I reinstalled kernels, took off recent apps I may have installed, tried a different modem, nada... This is a pain. Anyone else with similar issues other than OP?

Ive seen this many times with 4.4.2 and 3. Now with 4 it likely fixed.
I had screen not rotating, I did a dalvik wipe and a cache wipe and haven't had a problem.

Running 4.4.4, I just saw the issue again yesterday.
It started as a weird feeling. I thought that I had just forgotten that I had changed a setting or two. But now I am certain that the phone changes some settings by itself.
Knock on keeps turning off by itself . I did also enable led notifications a couple of hours ago only to find them turned off now , after I plugged in my device (I didn't see the red light when I locked the screen). I am completely stock . I haven't received the latest OTA update though. Do I need to see a shrink or something strange is going on with the phone's software ?

I suggest you get an exorcist for your phone immediately, anyways all joking aside did this just begin or has it been happening for a while now, have you installed any weird apps/modules(if rooted), as a last resort you can backup apps(via carbon if not rooted or titanium backup if you are rooted) and music/videos/pictures to your pc and factory resetting to see if the issue persist

Thank you once again for you answers. I have the phone 3-4 days as I wrote to you in the other thread ! It has been happening from day one. I am completely stock , no root , no nothing. I don't want to hard reset but it may be obligatory in this case.
Yes, I have seen the LGG2 reset settings as well

I am so glad to see someone else posting about this. This happens to me so often and is so frustrating.
I see several different changes happening fairly frequently:
1. Date/time settings get changed (auto date time gets disabled, auto time zone gets disabled, use24 hour gets enabled, various combinations of these 3 settings change)
2. Knock on/off gets turned off
Less frequently:
1. Auto rotate turns off
2. Home Screen Background resets and/or theme changes
3. Allow Home screen looping gets disabled
I have Verizon LGG2, rooted,
Android 4.4.2
Baseband version: VS98024A-M8974A-AAAANAZM-2.0.20046
Kernel Version 3.4.0-perf-gdf89a11
Build Number: KOT491,VS98024A
have been unsuccessful updating to the latest OTA - figured it was because of root, after uninstalling root still had the error.
Not sure if that is related.
Both the reset issue and the lack of OTA update are annoying, but not so problematic that I want to reset my phone.
If anyone has seen this issue and/or has suggestions (including reset, I suppose), I'd appreciate it.
Thanks i n advance.
