Ok who's got the trick to make the phone report what radio frequencies it can do? I have a bunch of Android codes that make phones do certain things, but none of them work on the streak.
I am trying to find out what my device is capable of since there are too many threads out there that say it can and it can't... i.e. hspa....
anyone? Beuhler? Beuhler?
No idea on the codes mate, sorry.
But if you were asking if it does Hsdpa.. I can confirm it does.
Apologies if I misread ur question tho

have you a look in your system/build.prop
also do you have EMlist enabled? Engineering Mode?
try this one *#4636#*#* (*#INFO#*#*)
definetly does HSPA , mine is set at the highest settings as far as I know,
best I've seen so far was wabout 2.5Mbps download on ATT
havent checked wi-fi yet.

Ok that code worked, and in phone info section, I am currently set to GSM auto (PRL). You're on ATT... the question is about whether or not the device will do HSPA on Tmobile's network. Currently I only get EDGE.
FYI the correct code turned out to be *#*#4636#*#*

Hey Lord60,
Are you in US? If Yes, I would be also interested in getting Streak to work on TMo-US's HSPA network (offcourse if hardware supports it). I think (not 100% sure) EMlist has a option to see all UMTS supported by phone. May be way to even select/set them.
If you find any info, please share it and I will do the same.
I've been asking Dell, if their new unlocked version will work on TMo-US's 3G network. And no one seems to know it.
I already have Streak but like in your case, only works on EDGE.
Thanks!
Im pretty sure it supports the Tmobile 3G band,
I think there may be a thread somewhere, I will check later and report anything I find.

you may need EMList and manually input select the band.

and from what else I find...
looks like the beta Tmobile versions supported 3G, and now only UK versions will support tmo 3G, and Dell "says" ATT locked versions dont have support for Tmo 3G.... I would say try an unlock code first, the radios should al be the same.. if you get tmo 2g, Im pretty sure they left the tmo 3g radio in there as well.

The Streak is quad band gsm. That's 2G speeds. TMo 3G speeds work on AWS 1700 band. There were only a handful of beta phones with those specs. If you're looking to flash a whole new Rom including the radio frequencies then I guess it's possible. There are some really talented people here. Dell already has FCC clearance for the AWS version but hasn't released it to the public yet, if ever.

Hey chrisrotolo, I bought Streak back in September w/o AT&T contract and got it unlocked by calling AT&T.
When I put my TMo sim card, it only works on EDGE/2G. It never worked on 3G.
I've seen a screen shot of EMList which shows you and may be lets you select UMTS bands, but in Mr. Steve's 1.5.1, EMList is not included i believe.
When Dell recently announced Unlocked Streak (back in November), there were rumors that it might work on TMo-US 3G network. So far no one seems to know for sure.
So guess we are out of luck, as of yet!
Thank you for the reply though!

Hey Streakr, I always thought that radio frequencies has to do with the hardware and not with ROM.
Now that you mentioned its controlled on the ROM side, I wonder how easy/difficult it is to support this on Mr. Steve's ROM.
May be Mr. Steve could answer it for us.
Thanks for the info though.
Yeah I am unable to get EMList on dJ_steve's 1.5.1, you could ask him to bake it in Im sure, but I can get some cell info stuff when selecting >shortcut>bettercut>all applications....
I would love to find a list of AT&T's (or T-Mobile's in your case) full list of USSD codes or MMI Codes ( eg.*1234# dialer codes), for network, service and diagnostic stuff. I am sure it would be very easy to screw something up with those codes as well.
maybe even some fastboot codes...
I found this link on gsmhosting, anyone know any more of these codes, you can enter from keypad on fastboot screen?
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f606/dell-streak-secret-codes-p-1113827/
I dont know if you can access any of the mobile networs through settings and manually configure it through APN or manual network operator.
cheers!

From what I have been told the radio frequencies are set by the manufacturers. The hardware is capable of doing any of the operators frequencies but how each is set I'm not sure of. I have heard of people who have claimed to have changed a EU version phone to a US version phone including the carrier settings. This is way behold me.
any new updates on this?

I can confirm that it will work on AT&T's 3G coz I'm using it in NYC
so its not locked??? cuz i tried it with the fido sim and it worked....
Apparently
I read that pretty much all current HTC GSM devices from Europe and Asia do indeed work on American 3G networks. For the longest time we were tricked into thinking the HTC Touch HD only worked on American Edge networks. However, a recent document released by HTC proves that it does have support for American 3G bands. I am waiting for the HTC hero to come out for ORANGE. At which point I will drop the big bucks to get it early.
Thats incorrect. the Touch HD papers were before the phone was even released, so those specs were never real. 3G networks in europe uses 2100 whereas at&t in the US uses 850/1900 3G bands. Not compatible.
But Rogers in canada uses the same exact bands as at&t usa. So you will have 3G in america. (Afterall Rogers used to be "Rogers at&t"
internet spazed, double posted. Someone plz delete this post.
I'm on Rogers HTC Magic too on AT&T in California, 3G works fine. You just need to sim unlock it and you're good to go.
Same thing. 3G AT&T in California.

Rooted or no. It's not showing up because Rogers locked down the market a bit through the ROM on the phone.

That sucks, so I guess a true sim unlocked phone (not rooted) would have full access to paid apps unless as you are saying rogers has limited the paid apps through the rom.
I was able to purchase copilot today. It seems very strange that I could buy copilot but can't see documents to go.
Is there anyway to remove this lock down on the market? If rogers releases a update to open up the market will our phone get this update?

from my understanding market enabler would work if you root. The downside of rooting is than losing access to copyright protected apps.

sorry to necro a bit on this one.
I just picked up the google ION and I also have AT&T cell service (in southern NJ).
So far I have only been able to use edge connections, I have yet to see 3G kick in. I checked the AT&T coverage map and I should be soaked in 3G so Im curious if there are any settings/tweaks I can apply to activate 3G on the ION.
I can confirm that the ION has the proper radios (850/1900) just like the rogers version of the magic.
I would absolutely love to have 3G enabled on this phone so any info would be greatly appreciated.
For reference, the only APN i have set up is wap.cingular (ive looked at many other lists but this is the only one I got to work with data [edge]... this is the only one tech support from ATT gave me that worked as well).
Thanks!

Thats right, it has the right radio frequencies for EDGE. The Ion has 1700/2100 3G bands and there is absolutely no way to get ATT 3G as the frequencies are hard coded into the hardware. Switch to Tmobile if you want 3G on the Ion as it is essentially a MyTouch 3G

ahhh, so just having the supported bands is not enough, it has to be on the correct specific radio? ive been googling my ass off about this and thats the first concrete response/piece of information ive seen. many thanks.
in light of that information, would I be able to pick up a rogers magic and have it work with ATT 3G then? From what ive read here it appears that the rogers magic has 850/1900 as its 3G radio, correct?
looks like im going to have to put this ion back on ebay, ugh.
yah if you get a rogers magic then you will be good.
I'm pretty sure the answer to this is implied or even obvious to some of you out there from the technical specs scattered around this website (and others) on the different flavors of HD2, but I'm unable to reach a conclusive conclusion on my own, so I'll simply plead ignorance and ask it outright:
If I buy a US T-Mobile and attempt to use it on the AT&T network with my 3G AT&T SIM card, which of the following will happen, to the best of your knowledge?:
It won't work at all.
It will work, but only for EDGE access.
It will work as a 3G phone just fine.
It will work on At&t, but GSM only, meaning only voice and edge. You will not be able to get 3G, no matter what rom or radio you flash.
Yep, the above is correct. It will work on Edge only. However, do note that the phone would have to be unlocked first. If you just switch the SIM cards it will not work
currently, it won't work at all.
No one has reported to unlock this beast successfully.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll stay away from this experiment then.

In looking at the band frequencies for the HD2, it appears that you may be able to set it up for AT&T's flavor of 3G. Is this correct?

Yeah, the GSM(1900+850) in the band frequencies threw me off. I thought that was what AT&T used for 3G. Doesn't matter to me, I'm on T-Mobile anyway... and I keep my 3G off most of the time for battery conservation, lol.
I am testing the International Edition of the Samsing Tab (GT-P1000, with the phone functionality built in out-of-the-box and the white backplate). Here in the US, when I insert an AT&T SIM card I get 3G speeds (peaked at 6 MB downstream recently), but when I insert a Tmobile SIM card I seem to only get EDGE speeds (not 3G, around 0.1 MB downstream). The Tmobile SIM card works at 3G speeds on another phone, so I know it's not he SIM card. I can get voice calls on both Tmobile and AT&T with no problem.
Does the International Edition (GT-P1000) have the US 3G Tmobile bands?
Any input is welcome, thanks.

The T-Mobile Tab does not have the hardware to support European 3G bands... That's why I believe the euro firmware people are flashing only works for voice/edge on T-Mob...
That would make sense that the International (Euro) version does not have US Tmobile 3G bands... it makes me wonder if the limitation is in the hardware or software.
Do we have any indication that the limitation is in the software, other than the fact that a US Tmobile version exists?

I am certainly no authority on any of this, but this looks to be incorrect. From my reading of the posts on this issue... the Euro version of the Tab (specifically, its modem.bin file) isn't set to work with TMobile's 3G network as the that network operates on a frequency that isn't used in Europe.
User rotohammer looks to have the most knowledge on what it is going to take to make this happen -- but keep in mind that most of us have TMobile Tabs and are needing a solution with that fact in mind. The general thought was that we could use the firmware from a Euro version to give us voice-calling capability, and then hack-in support for TMobile's 3G network.
sheesh, I wish I would have paid attention in school because I want to be a bit more useful with all of this.

According to what I have figured Out....it disappointed me too, But!!
GT-P1000 is not capable of running 3G Tmobile network
The Hardware CPU, Radio Chip...is capable and is switchable to the band of 1700/2100 MHZ.
The Radio Amplifier is not Capable of 1700/2100 MHZ bands....so us who have International Version of the Tab is Screwed!!!
The proof = I flashed my GT-P1000 using Tmobile Modem to switch and ENABLE 1700/2100....I can only have Edge+Voice...when I flash to T849 modem....the Tab gives No Signal
if the GT-P1000 was capable of handling 1700/2100 Bands easily then my Tab should do 3G only by using T849 TMobile Tab modem Bin
I am a google nooby and is doing what I could....those are what I found out...seem like I have to sell my GT-p1000 Soon.
Or switch to at&t and 3g & voice work

The international version and the ATT tab is about the same....the 1700 mhz band is shot out.....

No hope....m selling mine, or return to the place i bought from and lose 200 usd

US tmobile have a unique stupid bands on their 3G....and all of the phones or tabs they have suck monkey *****....
Hi everyone I was reading Motohammers post in the developers form about being able to get 3G on a GT-P1000.
My question is this... It's my friends tab and I am not able to get 3G at all. He doesn't care about being able to use the phone, but would like to use 3G data if he is out of wifi.
info in the tab:
firmware= 2.2
baseband= P1000XXJHA
Kernel ver= 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
build number= FROYO.XXJMA
I followed Rotohammers T-Mobile Modem Switcher, but am getting
stderr: Unable to chmod /data/local/tmp/
redbend_ua: No such file or directory
stderr: /data/local/tmp/redbend_ua: not found
I followed the directions exactly and still no go... followed another guys post to install files on the internal sd card and still can't get 3G to come up no matter what.
The SIM card I am using is from a Galaxy Captivate S with voice and Data (6gig plan) on Rogers....
Any ideas?
Thanks very much!
M.
@fishguyis
Have you tried flashing a Rogers modem? At the end of your post you say you are using a voice/data sim on Rogers, not sure if you have tried this or if it will even work but as far as I know if you flash a modem that doesn't work you just won't have a signal, and you can just flash back to a modem with signal, if you got the modem switcher working and you just don't get a signal or if you only get edge, most of the time you can rename another modem to match roto's modem name in the switcher and swap the modem you want to flash with the modem that roto includes with the switcher, like if you want to try a Rogers modem just rename it to match and swap with roto's included 3g modem, I hope that is not to confusing I can't think of any other way to explain it, I hope this helps in anyway and I hope you get it working.

just giving you the information so you can match it up to mine to see if the 3g works. good luck bruh

idk, try to switch over to the overcome rom/kernel[if you haven't already] and try it that way if you want the 3g..
i must say the euro tab is nice and the 3g works good, i was video chatting earlier with no lag and even hit H speeds, not sure the big difference between 3g and H tho.
oh yeah my sim was from my tmo vibrant/g2 so it seems like we have the same set up, just dont understand why you are getting that error.

I am not sure if this makes a difference but the GT is from Bell Mobility and if I go to "wireless/network", "mobile Networks", network mode, I get GSM/WCDMA (auto mode)
GSM only
WCDMA only
Does that mean there is no 3G available at all?
Thanks for your patience, I have been reading like crazy...

im not sure about bell mobility GT but if its not working after all the work you should probably try to flash over to Overcome and see if it changes anything.

I think I may have a problem here....I flashed my Tab with the JJI latest firmware from Samfirmware....and I failed to reflash it to another PDA....I doubt that I could reflash everything to what u have now
What makes you have the 3G anyway ? is it the modem ? or is it the Rom ? Kernel
So, I was about to buy this phone and use it on At&t in the US, but as I was looking at the ebay listings, I noticed that some of them stated that It does not work GSM with at&t.
I'm not very tech savy, but I find hard to believe that such an advanced phone would have this problem. Can anybody that tested it, shine some light on this for me please?
Thank you
It has the hardware to support it but it's the software that verizon has locked down to not work with any other carrier in the USA
In normal gsm phones you simply need an unlock code for the phone to work with any other carrier then the one it's meant to work with but in this case even after you give the phone the unique code it still won't work with att or Tmobile in the USA so we are looking to see how to disable the lock on USA bands on the phone but it seems not many people have made much progress
Thanks for trying to help, but that is not what i'm asking
I know it works, but everybody says it doesn't work on 3G, just on EDGE.
here's the response I got from an ebay retailer
"This version will work on the AT&T GSM network, however, will not work on the 3G network, only edge.
Best regards,
Communication Telecom International "
AT&T uses 850Mhz and 1900Mhz for the 3G frequency bands and it does support it in the hardware as I was saying, its just that nothing at this point will work not even EDGE because the USA lock overrides anything AT&T uses.

You are confusing the Droid 2 Global with the Milestone 2. Two different phones here.
the milestone2 should have the right hardware to connect to att 3g sorry for the confusion
The Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro also have the hardware to support US GSM bands but it has been disabled in the radio. This is not software, so to speak, but rather hardware configuration.
If you know where to look you can fix this problem.

i think he is messing look at the username.
Don't hijack the thead!
OP asked about Milestone 2, not Droid 2 Globlal.
So - to address OP's question - yes - Milestone 2 currently on sale in most places is the EMEA model (Europe/Middle East/Asia), which has 900 and 2100 W-CDMA bands only.
Based on the official page from Motorola here, Milestone 2 A953 has a version with W-CDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz which are the bands used primarily in the Americas (850 and 1900) and Australia (850/2100). There was an article the phone is coming to Argentina before Christmas, so it may start showing up quite soon.
If you want US 3G support from Milestone 2, you have to wait for one of these to emerge. Sure enough it will not have any restrictions against US GSM/WCDMA operators (MCC 310) like the Droid 2 Global (currently) does.
I am not "messing". I cannot post external links of proof because I have too few posts.
I also do not wish to SPAM your forum out of respect for the rules.
Search for droidbandunlock on Twitter for more information.
thats sweet then I saw the video, I have a D2G and bought the phone for this purpose, where will the release be?
They inted to sell it as a servce. It definitely works...we were early testers and I have been trying to help them get the word out about it. These guys know what they are doing and what the value of this exploit is.
well sure but I'd like to know about it asap I've been stuck using this on wifi only :/
I'd pay about $10 for it

Those bast*rds!!! How dare they know what the value is and not give it away for free!!!
I am just kidding
People sell unlock codes all the time for like 15 bucks so should be no problem for people that have to pay for this exploit...wonder if it is the same one I found
This may not be the best thread to continue this discussion. My apologies for the hijack.
I am most interested in seeing what you have found, but from what little reading I have done in your threads it appears you are working in the system only and not modifying the radio.
If that is the case, then our exploit has nothing in common with yours.
Do you have any evidence of it working with US GSM bands on AT&T or T-Mobile?
Perhaps we should start another thread, but we will not be revealing the precise nature of our method for obvious reasons.
Our method makes no changes to the system and leaves no trace of itself anywhere that can be accessed on the device itself beyond the ability to use the US GSM bands.
sorry to interruput but i think this is the only way to talk to you unlocker but about what will the price be and where can we find more info about release dates and downloads etc.? i found you on twitter and asked a few questions but there still isnt much info
I have to modify system because in my ROM (Fission) the packages that handle sim card functions do not work without some "blur" components so thus the need to modify my system
I have pics and a vid ready to go for when I was going to sell my service. I am not trying to nor am I going to compete with you guys or from TBH. P3Droid and Gweedo have been nothing but really friendly with me and to be honest; I would rather not deal with the headaches that come with selling a service on this forum and/or many others. I already went through and going through hell for the way I handle Fission ROM Manager and really don't want any more of that crap...I would rather continue dev work on the ROMs and some other apps I have been working on
I won't get into how my method works for the same reasons that are very clear too but if you want to discuss anything in private feel free to message me or hit me up on Gtalk.
Did you guys release your method yet? If not when do you plan on doing so? I would like to prepare Fission for users who will need to unlock or do use their SIM cards...

Thanks Angdroid for ur hard work. Been following u for some time, hopefully u can release SIM package for D2G Fission soon.
Could anyone running Fission ROM try to switch to GSM mode from *#*#4636#*#* menu? I know you can switch to GSM from there on the original ROM without having to go to settings/wireless/networks/etc As it is standard Android tool, maybe that could be used to switch between the two radios until AngDroid figures out how to make it nice. Hope it works though.
Hello guys, it is my first post here! I tried searching for my specific question but I did only find hints, not a true answer.
I'm about to change my phone soon, I come from iOS world so please don't be too hard on me if what I ask is stupid or evident for you (as it would not necessarily be the case for me ).
I am right now looking at a Sprint 32GB version of a LG G2, it does have a bad ESN with Sprint. Obviously it is not high priced since ESN is bad. I understand a little that ESN is linked to WMCA networking, which is specific to each carrier. It is the same as connecting to data with Sprint or Verizon or AT&T, or in my area, SFR, Orange, Bouygues, Vodafone... Am I right?!
From what I've read, it would be best for me to search for a regular phone instead if I was in USA. But I live in Europe, so I don't care about not being able to connect to Sprint network.
If I flash/root this phone with an EU stock ROM or International ROM (or even a custom ROM, since a lot are available here), will I be able to connect to my local carriers' networks?
Regarding your advices I will or will not buy this phone.
Sorry if my english is bad, & Thanks in advance! :good:

If you're saying that you're gonna buy the Sprint version because it's good in price and you live in Europe. Just check the bands which the Sprint version supports and the bands which your network provider in Europe provides. If they are compatible then no worries. Just make sure that you only flash ROMs etc which are made for the Sprint variant. I think you would also need to unlock the device which I'm not sure about.
Still, the best thing to do us to buy the international variant(D802) which is not locked if you also can't figure out how to unlock.

Sprint does not support 2100 frequency. 3g hspa HSDPA so on use the above mentioned frequency. According to my knowledge India uses 2100 frequency band. So unfortunately you'll not be able to use 3g in India with the sprints version.
Try for at&t version
im using 3G just fine in india on sprint version :|

You will have to input APN settings manually.
Name Airtel
Apn : Airtelgprs.com
rest leave it default save select and your net should start working.

Actually bro everything is fine with the setting I guess, as I have tried a different sim as well, whenever i enable data it does not show "E" on the notification bar as it Use to show before I could only see GSM inside a small circle when ever i activate net there is no "E" at all. All the problems started when I updated the cell via OTA update initially when I got the cell it was ZV7, now after the update its ZVA and not able to Use net since then. Please find the attached screen shot about the GSM showing up when i enable data.
it will not show E on stock rom unless u make some changes,
thats how Sprint rom reports network.
Other roms ull see E and H.
