Ok everyone so I thought I'd share this with you. I have been messing with this version of Android for quite some time. I find myself comparing all the versions of android to this version. Well heres my story I had the latest version of ShubCraft (1.4d) and didnt like the battery suckage...even with the new zImage from netripper.. So bored at work I decided to try the desire rom v5 with the new zImage and the startup.text from shubcraft's 1.4d. And WOW Let me tell you all, its so awesome I decided to share my info for all who decides to enjoy. Heres the kicker, it says its a Sence Rom but I dont run it with Sence. I use Launcher Pro. So if you want an awesome rom comparable to all the other with BETTER battery usage, then try this out and give props to DarkStone and all the other devs too...
Here is the link for Darkstone's Desire V5:
http://gamesquare.co.uk/desire.html
If you dont have the lastest zImage then go here:
http://oe.netripper.com/files/htcleo_autobuild/?C=M;O=D\
Also I will attach the startup.txt for those not currently running shubcraft 1.4d but it will have to be later tonight as my work comp is being dumb and not letting me transfer the text.. stupid thinclients!!!
Now in order to not have sence, when you get this version up and running then use Linda File Manager and nav to system\app and delete rosie.apk and reboot.
Muy Importante!!!! Make sure you have some sort of launcher in either your androidapps folder or in the data\app folder. When I changed roms I didnt delete my androidapps folder that had com.fede.launcher.apk (launcher pro) this is important to make sure its there....and all should be good. Please feel free to try this and post back your results. I will try to post some screen shots but you will have to wait till I get to my home PC. Also this current set up is the brightest/clearest, fastest data, fastest responding. It's just dam beautiful. Please feel free to post any issues and we can get this sorted out for you. PS I havent tried BT or GPS yet but there have been many updates with the lastest modules on netrippers server so if they dont work then you can just replace them by using ADB or SUFB with the system & data mounted as R/W...
Please tell us what you think. I know I have found a winning combination, for me and my daily, monthly, yearly driver, of all the different versions of Android.... but what do you think??
Update:
I have attached the startup.txt for easier access...
move on to mattc's 1.6b and its beats the crap out of DS's desire v5. Trust me.
o thx thx
will have to check this out

I doubt it this set up has no data issues such as I have read for mattc's 1.6b

I'm trying this build out but How do you replace the system files with the latest git updates to get the gps, bt working? I'm using windows 7 btw so would you tell me how to do so?
thanks for the idea..
Anyone heard from DarkStone in a while? I've just been using his rls, but havent seen him around lately so I might try this or mattc 1.6
worth a try
I will try, since I had the same impression the Desire built is the one handling better the 3g/wifi.
shubcraft has the best look and feel, but so far the best ROM is the mattc 1.6b

Yea no worries.. I liked the shubcraft build cuz of cyanogen but then I started messing with this set up and I love it... best response to everything... so I have been just having fun with this build..Download Droid explorer and it will let you transfer the files.. just make sure you mount the system as r/w using adb.... I have used super user file browse (sufb) and that let's you mount the system and data as r/w... but from either just copy/push them into the same place as shubcraft has listed System/lib/modules... and them of course reboot..

That's sounds like an awesome combo. I've tried pm'ing darkstone to tell him to update ver5 for a while. I always thought in my opinion ver5 was always the Godfather of these builds. Being one of the first ones out, it was more responsive than most of the builds today, and look how long ago that was compared to all the new builds and upgrades of now. Will definitely try this. Like they say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" So tuning up something that was already great should make for one hell of a build.
Isn't v5 android 2.1? That would account for the improved battery life, 2.2 requires more processor power, but it's also 450% faster ( from some test reports) basically it won't work well with sense that's why its better with launcher pro. Also you don't get the advances in 2.2 ( maybe you don't need them anyhow). Its worth doing a quadrant benchmark to test properly if its really faster. Also maybe worth comparing with something like Shu8i v 1.2, pretty similar to what your using but I would bet It would be much faster also.

Yes sir 2.1 but its still kicks a$$... I left my phone on over night not charging for about 8 hours, and my battery went from 63 to 58! Im stoked! And I did benchmark it and my score was just under the nexus 2.2 around 1200.. ill see if I can up a pic... ill see what I can do from my work comp... as my home pc's hard drive kicked the bucket yesterday... so right now I have no way to upload to xda... but ill figure it out. This really an awesome setup! Darkstone if you read this take this setup and run with it señor... you won't regret it.. market is blazing fast.. this feels the like a native Rom for me.... also I have auto rotate on and that is working wonderfully for me too... mind u I have that class 6 card... try it and run the benchmark.. u will see for yourself...

Well Im pretty open minded so I tested your theory with michyprimas, latest zimage and stock zimage from 23rd August sense disabled. Theres no root access to enable setcpu so the processor was running at 768, still running at 998 wont make that huge a difference.
Result your device: 525, exactly what I expected for a 2.1 based ROM.
It is buried by newer Roms in benchmarks, but it runs fast and smooth and I see why you like it.
Wouldn't that original root.fs file work? The file is on linux and android read post 3 thread.

I dont know how you got 525 but for proof I have attached the quadrant score I just got five minutes ago.. And its not 525 my friend.. its beyond the nexus 2.2 results... and this is a rooted rom.... all my super user access request programs work just fine no issues at all...
Hey Pharoah, how did you get over 1300? Im getting 702 tops. I got set cpu to the max. Are there any special tweaks your using to get that high. I love this combination, and if there is any way i can tweak mine to get up that high, I would appreciate if you shared how you got that high.

I havent done anything different that I have learned from the threads of darkstone and shubcraft..I use autokiller with an optimum preset, advance task killer with the auto kill frequency set to kill apps when the screen is turned off and the 4 profiles setting in setcpu to manage the speed of my processor for battery consumption. Nothing else special added to help the speed. Just really the startup.txt and netripper zimage are the only 'major' changes I have made... I restarted my phone and ran quadrant again and got a score just under the nexus 2.2 of 1307 with like 20+ apps running in the backround. Maybe becuase I have a class 6 card??? who knows.. are you running the setup like mine (senseless) or are you running it with sense??
Update...
It cant be the class of card. My friend who has the exact same setup just a class 2 card just scored a 1296... so maybe the setcpu, autokiller, and advance task killer tweeks help.... try and report back..
Yea Im running a class4. But I know that is not the problem. I could get a 1780 on Shubcraft 1.4 My set up is pretty much the same is yours. Im running it with launcher. I did replace the rootfs.img with the one that was on the beginning of the Linux and Android Read Post3 thread. Because as I remember that build isnt rooted. Did you replace your rootfs.img? Or did you use the original one? That might be why mine is running so slow.

That I can remember I didnt switch the rootfs, its the original. But really not rooted huh?? I guess I missed that posting... I have not had any issues running root-required apps. Try it maybe that is the difference.. Im going to see if I can up my rootfs but idk if I can manage via my phone since I cant connect usb to this work computer... usb ports on work comp disabled... but ill try..
Hey all,
i wanted to know which build you prefer and which build the most stable one is. im searching for a version with less bugs. i want a non laggy version. can somebody help?
the ram versions are far away from being stable right?
what about the hd versions? have they much bugs?
I love to know this too. I want stable and not care much of nice animation. i think you will get different answer because i don't think anyone know what the best out there. You will have to try different one to see which one work for you best. Every single one out there will the different issue you might run into? The good thing are alot of developer actively working on these rom for FREE. That really nice of them. I really appreciate all the hard work.
The common response to this question is that it's really about personal preference at this point. There may be some small features not working in each build but I can't say that any of them have any particular major flaws unless it's a "work in progress" build like Gingerbread MyTouch4G or whatever. I recommend bookmarking this http://android.hd2roms.com/ and get a better idea of the different Roms and see which are staying updated or w/e. I like to have 2 types of Roms, a Stock-like or Cyanogen-based and a Sense-themed. Of these types, I have found the following to be particularly good for me:
- Cyanogen-based: HD2ONE (all though he is not developing any longer, this one should be solid for a long time.. my personal favorite) - JDMS (could easily replace HD2ONE for me if JDMS stays in the game and keeps new Cyanogen builds rotating in and doing the testing\tweaking for us)
- Sense-themed: MDJ Froyo HD (I'm most impressed with MDJ's commitment to keeping his roms up to date. Sense based are often bulky so I have to overclock them a tad but MDJ compensates by undervolting nicely)
- Stock-like: Darkstone SuperRam (I may be biased for Darkstone's builds but this one loads super quick) - NexusHD2 (Solid and Slick... nothing wrong with this one)
- Experimental: MDJ Gingerbread (Really looking forward to the last couple things to get ironed out on this build)
So yeah, there are 6 right there that I use. Which one I use the most is kinda hard to say. I currently bounce between HD2ONE and MDJ FroyoHD. I use Excellar boot loader and just customize my Rom names and just reboot in each and play/test them all for speed/stability/functionality at my leisure. I just load up my card like this and figure out what works for me the most:
/HD2ONE
/MDJFroyoHD
/SuperRAM
/JDMS
/NexusHD2
Bottom-Line... all of them are excellent, have fun and try each on. And don't be afraid to try something new. A lot of new guys are trying to get their stuff out there for us and need testers and feedback to help them perfect it. Sorry for being long winded, there really is no simple answer. They are all good!
For me its MDJ Revolution HD v.1.2 with hastarin 8.6 kernel
Its apsolutly fast, stable and good looking. I have tried almoust all versions and this one is definitly winner for me.
I vote for option A - Try them all and see which one you like best.
Mdeejay Sense Clean 2.3 build as posted in Mdeejay thread by Hastarin. It has Hastarin kernel 8.53b included but you can update to 8.6. It's totally stable and I haven't found anything to replace it.

The Nexus build from TyTung is the most stable and there is nothing "not" working...check it out.
MCCM's builds are perfect. Everything works and they are fast without overclooking. I get 1662 on quadrant with stock CPU settings. with his builds. I'm using his Desire HD build.

Also, they are rock solid stable and battery draws 5 - 7 mA in standby.

i agree with the nexus one notion. my only problem is that battery when standby averages at 11 mA
Any build can be as good as you want if you know what to do. For me, I simply like sense builds. I have mdj 1.7 as main but I am currently testing moto my touch 4g and dandiest desire z.

hi,
i was wondering, now with all the android roms beeing published to xda
i'd realy like to know which rom is actualy the most recent, or the best, with the least errors and best to work
and another thing,
is it possible to delete windows from my phone and let my phone start directly from android, to avoid the long boot time?
@natihorny - Here's a link to TechBurrow's thread. There is a video/ links for what you need to do to flash your phone with Android and have it boot up directly to it without dealing with WM. I've yet to do this, as I'm still at work, but plan on giving it a try in the coming days.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894423
I would suggest that you dont use NAND builds yet they are far from perfect but instead you should use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847631 it is motomans black and blue build wich is by far the best sense android build even much better than any ram and nand build and as for winmo flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893438 and it will boot android just as fast as any nand build and you will never have problems with this setup
this is a very, very subjective thread. there is not "best" rom--it's all about what you're looking for in a rom. for example, vanilla froyo vs. desire vs. desire hd vs. miui vs. gingerbread. or sd vs. sd ram vs. nand.
personally, i'm a proponent of sd ram. i haven't actually used it long term, but it seems to be very fast (and based on darkstone, it's even faster than nand). especially with nand being very young in its development, i would stick to sd for now. plus, it's much easier to flash and fix in case you corrupt your rom somehow. there's a few out there (just look for "[SD] [RAM]" in the descriptions), but one i'd like to point out is darkstone's superram froyo. i'm kinda busy right now, but that's definitely the rom i'm going to be using and modding to my liking.
good luck and have fun flashing!
ok, thanks everyone for the helpfull answers,
i had still one other question and thats,
i just bought a new car with bluetooth function, though my cell phone and the bluetooth of the car don't connect like it should, (thats why i wanted an android with the least amount of problems) and i was wondering if the fact that the bluetooth is only visible 120 seconds may cause the problem.

i was wondering, in some of the android roms, you can choose skins from htc sense and have the htc market, and can download more htc backgrounds, sounds, etc. etc.
and now i have the rom you suggested, both for windows as for android which i'd like to use, but doesn't have that htc sense thing buildt in the android rom, how can i get it back?

The build you are speaking of is the desire hd. I didn't suggest that build because it is laggy and slow. Even after 10 restarts and 2 days of use it still laggs alot compared to the one I posted in B4. Take it from someone that has tried every build available the motoman build is BY FAR the BEST after you get over all the HOOPLAH over the new htc sense wich is cool i'll admit but the coolness wears off after about 2 days and your just stuck with a laggy non responsive HD build. now others will post how good thier HD build works after hours of tweeking and reading and tweeking and reading. But trust me you will go back to the motoman build after you try the hd for a few days

Android runs perfectly without any performance issues for a longer time now.
There are a lot of roms in the Hd2 Android-nand section which are running without any bugs.
Which fits to you you have decide yourself.
I would recommend you to have a look at typoon(look at my sig), hyperdroid and nexusHD2..think thats a good start to begin with.
you would be best off getting a native android device
If you want a dualboot system with a SD-card-Android, than look here:

Of course there are some nice Android builds for HD2. BUT, nothing is perfect. For example I have these two issues that are not solved in any build.
1. The speaker volume (ringtones, notifications, music) is very low on android compared to windows mobile.
2. Whenever you press the wake up button the screen comes up only after 1 or 2 seconds.
So there are some issues like these. So better go for a native Android device.
I would have to second Pongsters Hyperdroid CM7 newest build. The only thing you need to do is replace the stock camera with another. Like the MIUI camera or the LG camera.

Very good rom indeed. Very fast and smooth. This build took back my flash addiction hehe
Sent from my HD2 using Tapatalk
At the moment, i am very impressed by MccMBoxmaX GS V6.0 [Desire S] Gingerbread 2.3.3 [Sense 2.1+3.0]. The whole hardware of my HD2 seems to work as it has to do. Runs quick and smooth without lags from a class 6 SD-Card.

These issues are solved in some roms:
The sound is related to /system/lib/libaudio.so & /system/etc/firmware/default.acdb
I forget what the wake up lag is related to (Sensors lib i beleive)
I use a personally modded version of CyanogenMod-7 to run on my HD2 and don't suffer from your problems!
It does depend which rom you are using but you should be able to patch/replace those files!
Hope this helps

Hi....
In my opinion the graphic glitches are annoying in current gingerbread roms (as much as I experienced)... I use Desire DL roms from SD, but I'm looking for a relatively bug-free rom with htc-sense to flash instead of WM 6.5 and run android directly.... I'll be honored if someone could recommend me a rom, running as fast as possibe with least bugs, and specially without delay after installing applications or waking up on calls....
Thanks in advance...

Use official Miui from Miui-devs.com. Rom updated every week, if bugs are found, they usually get fixed with-in few days or in next weekly built.
so far i have no bugs. other that common signal bar issue that most in not all users have. Sense 2.1 ROM was also bug free for me.
is it true that running android via NAND has less battery consumption than via SD ?
cos I run via SD and the battery drops like a %every 2 minute...if I am on wifi...
Please people, tell me, what is the best android ROM for HTC HD2 ?
ICS 4.0.4 don't work very well(camera don't work, people can't call me, etc)
Maybe there is some older vers. what's working well ?
Thanks.
Older Gingerbread builds are stable and almost in 100% perfection. Choose your ROM from several devs, I am using Typhoon and it's quite nice for everyday use.
Gingerbread for sure ..i used hyperdroid stable n fast
I am still using this one since three months.

If you want you can look for or try.
Please "Thanks" button...

Which ICS ROM are you using? I've used NexusHD2 (ICS version) for almost a month now and never had a single issue of the ones you've mentioned, and neither do most users. For daily use, ICS is by far the best in all honesty.

Are you kidding? It is nearlly as stable as Gingerbread and definately much faster.
But if you like retro style, I'd recommend you using Hyperdroid, that is quite fast too.

But it lacks with the data2ext Compatibility and some other Gingerbread-" luxury".
I could nearly recommend every GB ROM of the last 6 months, i prefer the Typhoon ROM with Black LK Loader.

How exactly does Data2EXT differ from A2SD? Cos A2SD and Link2SD can both be used on ICS.

? You literally install an app and you have Link2SD, it's hardly much effort. And the UI of ICS is infinitely superior to GB, the HWA makes a tonne of difference in scrolling and gaming and especially the browser performance, and on ICS things load faster. There's no feasible reason one should use GB over ICS now other than simply not wanting to bother because they already have GB installed.
ICS custom roms are improving day by day. I have tytung ICS rom now
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860
and it works very good for me. I have no issues with camera or phone calls.
Only 160 dpi seems to be problem, while creating shortcuts to contacts... i just can't see call button when touched them. But if you are using 240dpi it works almost flawlessly now.
But if you won't like to install ICS rom, you should try previously mentionted Hyperdroid, my adventure with Android on Leo started with this rom and had it for a long time.
asu
I'm using Paranoidandroids ROM and it's the best one I've ever used.
Ihave tried dozens of Roms & [hstr-Touchwiz][SamasungGalaxySII] is one of the stable ones so far, too bad the SD-Rom is discontinued but there are 2 in the NAND section

Installed yesterday and work great from now. Very smooth
Right now, IN MY OPINION, based on my experience, you're best options for HD2 are Tytung's ICS Rom if you want an ICS based Rom, its smooth and everything works, Paranoid Android is good also and has allot more Mods but more buggy. Gingerbread based Roms are all pretty much perfect by now. I recommend UrDroid for Sense 3.5, Pure Cynogen for CM7 Based Rom, and MYMIUI for MIUI based Rom. I have personally had the best experience with these Roms, but there are others that are excellent roms as well, I dont mean to take anything away from them, i respect the works of all the chefs that make the HD2 Great.
Happy Flashing!
Would agree with above on ICS.
GB even with all the tweaks in the world is a UI horror in use & viewing, when look at level of development gone into it through official & unofficial channels I would of expected a hell of a lot more no hassle innovative features ...
I saw 200~ hours uptime with my vanilla miui 2.4.20. Did not have any problems. Using till 20/4/12.
suggestion
