The develop something to win a 16 gb sd card game - EVO 4G General

Im hosting a game. Yes everybody is invited to play it. The goal is to develop something whether it is a theme, rom, app or widget. (Anything really, but preferably for the evo and if its a theme or rom, sense based. If it is a theme, please be red.) You may submit anything that has been previously posted, but only if it offers something new. (For example, transparent pull down for odex based roms.)
After we have submissions, we will vote on a poll that I will open.
The prize is a 16 gig micro sd card. All I ask for is if the winner wants special shipping, that he/she donates the shipping to my paypal.
So, let the games begin.
Deadline is 12/22/2010 (in time for christmas)

Would you donate for CyanogenMod on the Epic 4G?

Simple Question. Would you donate $10 or so to fund the purchase of an Epic for a willing Dev? As far as I know it's feasible (Correct me if I'm wrong), we just need someone with a Epic who knows how and wants to do it.
Anyway, the objective here is to create a list of people willing to donate. We'll see if it's enough to interest someone.
So who's in?
Committed:
ipaq3115 - $10
sporkisfaster - $10+
Bohiti - $10
Neptune5k - $5-10
mttallaczach $20
sauron0101
mxcoldhit
spongaweb $15
viper134 $5
If the big guy does it himself
Pito2k6 $100
Note: I'm thinking, find a trusted dev (preferably from the CM team) and once they've committed, send mulah through paypal
Clarification: The idea is donate enough that someone from the CM team can buy an Epic and work on it.
I'm willing to donate $10 or more depending on other people's willingness.

Mainly that it uses the AOSP stuff. Much more of a vanilla feel to it with a lot more integral features than current roms can offer because of the current code available (or lack thereof).
Not really no. I'm very happy with the TouchWiz interface and I need my 4G radio working.

It definitely couldn't hurt. Try to be positive, it seems like we're at a low point in morale here on the boards and development. Maybe this is what we need to get it going again.
I would be willing to donate to the dev that gets this out. Hopefully noob will work on it again.

I would donate $10 to Cyanogen himself. Anyone else, and I (at this time!) can't be sure of their devotion.
I know we'll be sacrificing 4G, but I live in an area that won't have it for quite some time.
I would donate directly to the guy himself, if he posted himself saying he's going to take charge and actually do it.
- Its just going to be Epic!

Yeah, mainly cause CyanogenMod is legendary
But really, it's like pure android like what the nexus phones have. No carrier bloat. Since the days of the G1 it's been the fastest. The little things he adds just make it that much more awesome.

Yeah, same thing. Find someone trusted, not just anybody.
I wouldn't expect anything back from the dev. Other than the promise to get an Epic and attempt it. It is a donation, not like paying someone for the service.

I would donate $100 if Cyanogen himself says he will develop for our Epic.
I would pay $10 if we knew that it would definitely lead to cyanogen mod. Who knows if we will ever get gingerbread on this phone, much less honeycomb.
I belive the best way to get vanilla android on your phone is just to wait a little longer. The Nexus S has practically the same specs as the epic plus there is even a rumored CDMA device coming. I don't think we are very far from Vanilla Gingerbread Phone.
As far as Cyanogen is concerned, no I'm not interested in donating to buy him an Epic.
I would be willing to contribute $5-10 as well.
Whoops, wrong button. Silly xda app

Developers Wanted!!

Okay, I am putting together a team of developers to work on MIUI for our Epic. I have a few dev's already on board and we would like as many as possible to work on it! If you are interested PLEASE reply to this thread or PM me. I've got an IRC set up and we'll make sure to make it a team effort!

Learning to be a dev takes a while because you need to develop skills that are necessary to code and such. Habits such as writing clean code and commenting out parts of code also need to be formed. I took an introductory comp. science course in college, but i haven't really practiced nor even attempted to look at developing for android as i know its a whole new world and i simply do not have the time to do it. But ladies and gentlemen, if you want to do it, nothing is stopping you, but just be sure that it is NOT easy and will take a couple of years or more until you are able to help with more than just bug testing unfortunately. And before anyone says that i am flaming or trolling, i am not, i am simply stating the truth and on top of that, I am in the same boat as you are, helpless to the devs. All I can do is donate some of my paycheck every now and then for exceptional work. I and we all owe it to these devs for making our phone work well and, as far as I'm concerned, they deserve it.
I would also love to help, but I just now started learning code on my "free" free time, its hard to remeber the format of the code, just that alone is a nightmare...
DOS was childs play compared to writing anything for android, I'm a pc guy, used to using windows UI or DOS back in the day when I was 14...

I'm definitely interested in some reading material.. while I can't help w/ coding and such (right now) I think it's a good time for me to get started reading and playing (on my device anyway)
I have tried MIUI
I honestly just dont care much for it it is built from its own source originally built in asia it is coded in I believe chinese and ported over to english and thus has been ported to different devices it was first ported to the og droid it is not built from aosp or any other android released source it is a ui built all its own.

[Donation]Atrix 4G MIUI Port

A lot of people have been interested in getting MIUI on the Atrix and FRAMEWORK over at miui.us has stated that he has gotten some progress on this port but is stuck at the point of having no Atrix to test his port on. He is known for porting MIUI to multiple devices. FRAMEWORK said that if he got his hands on the device, it could take a few days to get a working port on our Atrix.
Anyone interested in donating to this dev getting his hands on a Atrix, post on the thread. From there, I guess he will have to set up a way to take the donations or we can put something together. Either ways, this is an awesome opportunity for Atrix users who want a polished and sleek looking ROM.
You have to start it with the necessary half of the phone cost, by XDA rules.

Our CM7 is stable but is missing camera functionality and few other things. But IMO its stable.. no reboots here
I personally do not think donation threads should be allowed in xda at all without proof of progress. I know he has ported to several devices already, but that is what the donations links on their website is for. I have also seen several threads like this raise hundreds of dollars to get a dev a device and they release one thing and support it for only a week or two and never hear from them again. Just my opinion, I'm not trying to insult anyone.
I tend to agree, donation threads just aren't right. We are moving towards paying devs more and more. at this rate, it will be I won't help unless i get paid this amount. Kinda what this thread is, isn't it. He can't\won't get it done unless somebody buys him a phone. We have done that already at least once here. Maybe that dev would offer up the phone already purchased to this dev so he can do his part, then he can pass it on to the next.....

I completely agree. These donation threads are getting a bit aggressive and we've already been burned once.

Now that I've read the last few comments, I realize I totally agree as well. When I first saw this thread, I voted Maybe So, because honestly I was like "Yeah, let's get this going so we can get MIUI ASAP!!" but now I'm realizing...it probably won't make it go any faster, and we will really probably have it VERY soon after a full CM7 is released (whenever that is...), and if people want to THEN they can start donating to the guy. But to donate before hand? I didn't realize until just now how foolish that could be!
As Atrix users, we've seen plenty of devs take the loot and then split, so it'd be risky to do that again.
Besides, I've seen on the MIUI site a thread that lists some devices they're working on, and the only things on the Atrix to do list that aren't there are Working CM7 and Working MIUI. I'll go look for a link and bring it back here if anyone wants it

Haha thanks, that saved me some time.
So yeah, I mean it should be said that this ALSO doesn't guarantee MIUI...but at least we know that we should wait for CM7 until anything should really be done.
And milesjohnson makes a good point...instead of buying someone a device for them to use as they see fit, he could perhaps just do the same coding and have others that already have their own device testing it or something.

TBH I think everyone already knows that the Cyanogenmod team is doing what they always do. So nothing new about this. Most people are just too lazy to follow the members on twitter or keep up with their tweets. It's nothing to get excited about yet. Who knows how long it is going to take them to get us a flashable update anyways. Could be this month, could be 4 months down the road, we just don't know. The point is don't get your hopes up and expect anything soon.

Request for hascode

Hey hashcode I know you have many other projects going on, but I was wondering if there is any chance you would help out with the HTC amaze. I a, in the Georgia army national guard and would be willing to contribute at least 100 dollars seeing as I am being deployed here shortly. The source code was just released and I would kill for AOSP because I cannot stand sense. If not I understand. I just thought I would give it a shot seeing the great work you've done with the fire.
This is more appropriate for a PM.
