Has anyone tried, or figured out a way to disable that annoying "connecting usb storage will stop some applications in use..." warning when mounting for usb file transfer?
This is new in Froyo and I assume it's there because now some apps can be moved to the SD card and if you're running one when you mount, that app would stop functioning, I get it, but having to 3-click to mount the sd card is really annoying.
Sure wish it could be disabled in a custom ROM.
I agree. I'm looking for a way to kill this as well. I mean, the phone is rooted and has a custom ROM on it. Seems that should be a pretty welcome option.

Every time I plug it into my computer, even if I choose "Charge Only," I will lose all access to my SD card. I even tried turning off USB debugging, but that didn't fix it. It will simply show up on my desktop. Is there a setting that will let me disable this? Is it a driver I installed on my computer that forces it to give access to the SD card?
I've already ended up corrupting my SD card once which forced me to reformat it, I don't want to fear charging it on my PC.
I've heard that if you have DoubleTwist installed, it makes the SD card mount automatically. I haven't tested this fully but I just installed it yesterday and now I have the same issue with my SD card mounting when plugged in. So.. it's probably true.
Have you applied the OTA update?
If it happens that you are in fact using DoubleTwist, there is a setting in the app that let's you toggle auto mount. Turn it off and you should be golden.

Thanks guys, I did have it installed. I hadn't even opened it once yet. I didn't think an app could have that kind of power without needing root.
Wow thanks for this thread! I couldn't figure it out either... would have never guessed it was DoubleTwist.
I finally got around to rooting mine earlier today..
Ever since, I can't get either of my computers (both Mac and PC) to recognize the phone for mounting the SD card. It charges fine via USB but is impossible to mount as USB storage. Any ideas on this?
Maybe a driver issue?
I thought that originally. But if that were the case, I wouldn't have been able to connect to them previously (no changes in drivers on the computers) or been able to connect to complete the root process. I'm kind of at a loss for ideas right now.
hmm strange... I'm a android newbie so i don't think i can help passed driver
Method?

Hey what method did you use to root? If you can mount your internal storage but not your sdcard, can your phone read your sd card when the phone is booted normally? Perhaps you damaged your slot?

exactly what i was thinking, but myz06vette are you able to view content from your sd card using just your phone? ex: music, movies or pictures?
Yes, I can view content on my SD card and internal phone storage on the phone itself using Root Explorer or ASTRO. I didn't use the method that required me to pull the SD card out. I can play music stored on the card and view all my photos, so I know its reading okay. I even took the SD card out and put it in a memory card reader and it hooked up to the computer fine.. mounted right away. Just won't mount through the phone.

The development.apk packaged in many Dream/G1 ROMs has an option to scan for media. Try that
BTW, *#*#4636#*#* also works from the dialer to pull up phone/radio options, which will allow you to switch between cdma auto (PRL) --> cdma only -->> ev-do only. The latter two options should save you battery!
Thanks for the advice! I updated to CDMA-only right when I got the phone.. so I honestly can't say whether or not its saving me battery since I don't know what it was like set to CDMA auto PRL hahaa.
I tried installing the Dev Tools apk you attached, but each time I do, it says "Application not installed" with the yellow !triangle next to it.

Sorry, man -- that .apk was from an Eclair build -- try the new one I put up -- it's from an Espresso build, I just installed in on my DI -- all good
Hah alright fair enough. This one loaded fine.
Checking it out now... will report back. Thanks!
Half of the options in the app force close.
Media scanner loaded, but isn't helping me mount the sd card to my computer.
Any more ideas?

So you've checked your settings in "Connect to PC" -- perhaps your "always ask" option is cleared and it's set to HTC Sync, for example? What do you get in the SDcard/Storage menu? Any stats for the SDcard? What happens when you elect to eject it in that menu?
Storage menu shows total space and free space like it should.
Connect to PC is currently set to Ask me everytime.. option for Disk Drive selected just to try and force it to mount..
Removed SD card.. did battery pull reset.. still nothing.

That's frustrating. You might have to back-up your sdcard data on a PC and re-format the card, then copy the data back. I'm assuming you have a card reader.
I hadn't thought until just now to try another card. I've got a few sitting around here somewhere. I'll try that before taking the time to backup almost a full 16 gigs of stuff, format, then restore it all.

Do you have some sort of app killer/task manager auto killing the obex service? Ive noticed i have problems when it isnt running, but when it is running it kills battery like mad. Try going to settings>applications>running services and see if its running next time you try to mount. It should show up under calendar. Hope this helps.
P.S. I only let this service run when i need to plug into my pc, since it seems to keep the phone from being able to "sleep" properly. So if you have something killing it, or the calendar app has been removed that may have a part in your problem.
I've read somewhere here in the forums that it can screw up the a2sd function
so how can i connect the phone to my PC (because using a card reader every time you need to connect your phone to a PC is @[email protected])
Is this true? any alternative?
I'm using wildpuzzle ROM btw
Hi Dudin.
As standard, when you connect the phone to the pc as a removable storage, Android prevents the SD from being seen by the phone at the same time. As A2SD installs apps to the SD, this obviously causes any Apps on the SD to not work. I dont think its a permanent screw up, as it all should right itself after you disconnect from the computer, but you do have options:
1:Connect as Sync or Charge only. (a quick but pointless workaround if you want to browse your Sd card from the pc),
2: Or do as I do and install "Dual Mount SD" from the market It makes the SD card accessible by both Android and the USB at the same time. Works perfect for me, I can still use my aps and access the SD from the PC simultaneously. (I have used it on Wildpuzzle, Openfire and Cyanogen Mod, Eclair and Froyo versions). You need to be rooted for this though as it asks for superuser permissions.
Hope this helps.
Ok I will clarify for you. If you use dt app2ext patch. When you mount your sd card, the computer mounts the fat32 partition, and does not detect the ext partition, so it does not screw your card up, or the apps.
if you are using froyo app2sd, the apps that are on your sd card will not work when the sd card is mounted.
thanks for the replies
I find a good alternative is Dropbox - and it is mentioned in a lot of threads.
I already used it for work and it is great. No looking around for a USB cable or turning off/remove case/remove card etc which takes ages! Dropbox is free so give it a go! I use it in conjunction with EZ File manager (i think thats what its called) to transfer stuff and unzip archives.
Hope it helps!
I seem to be having problems with the internal phone storage "Media Area." That's where the apps are moved when moving them to the SD Card. So all the time my phone loses contact with the media area and those apps are no longer available. I have to reboot my phone 3-4 times before they are accessible again.
Am I the only one having this problem? I've tried to unmount that partition but it just hangs and needs to FC. I'm wondering if I got a lemon and need to return it.

Mine just became in-accessible the other day, I just moved astuff from the internal to the sd while on USB mode.
Had to format. Wouldn't mount or anything & I think I was getting a "Internal Storage Defect" message. Works ok after the format..
I thought I was the only one. If I connect my Atrix to my macbook then umount it it's not accessible to the phone. I only have to reboot once though.

Same here. Everytime it mounts the SD cards on my Mac it forgets the custom ringtones. Annoying! Going to have to get the Wifi add-on for iSyncr!!!

I actually use Browsix now until the problem is resolved. I'm writing down each of my custom ringtones now that I am running the beta to see if it is resolved. Let you guys know in a few through an edit to this post.
EDIT: From preliminary testing so far seems to resolve the issue of failure to remount storage.
With Safely removing hardware: Ringtones Are remounted properly with no issue, internal storage has no issue. will test with external storage later but so far looking positive
With just yanking out the USB cable without safely removing hardware: You might have to manually remount internal storage but ringtones are restored properly. Internal storage can be remounted with the Settings Storage option.

Thanks! I should have known better than to just unplug without safely removing but I usually don't do it on my tablet and it doesn't cause a problem..but after testing that's exactly what it was
sort of the same issue...
my problem is that the downloaded ringtones show up but the default ringtones like the att tone etc. dont show even though i can use root explorer to navigate to them and play them. Any ideas on what i could do to fix this? Im rooted on 1.5.7 and want to stay away from a full hard reset if possible. Thanks for the help for this n00b in advance.
This might be the stupidest question ever, but has anyone else had total difficulty getting Windows to read the external SD card in their device when directly connecting their Tab A device to their PC via USB?
My device is new...it worked once registering my storage partition in Windows and hasn't again. Things that have happened since then: I updated to latest firmware with March 2018 painful security updates. May be no correlation but I thought I'd mention it.
As I was waiting for OEM unlock, I hadn't activated my ext4 partition but it still wouldn't work in Windows via USB....the card works FINE in Windows directly - I've taken it out of Samsung and put it directly into to my PC and Surface Pro and it reads storage fine. My partition software detects the app partition as well.
Then, I rooted with SuperSU/TWRPed and modded.....app partition activated successfully with Apps2SD and linked some data to it fine with Link2SD. No problems..... can't remember if I was getting the "corrupted" message I am now getting from Samsung then... I think maybe? Regardless, internally, both partitions were/are working just fine. On Windows it works fine as a stand alone card. But when I plug it in via USB inside my Tablet, I only get "Tablet" storage. This is driving me nuts. What's the point of that?
Then I switched to Magisk and the fun really started. Now, it shows what I appears to be my ext4 app partition as "corrupted" in Settings > Storage. It isn't by the way - it still works with my apps fine and the whole card is working fine (and I've run diagnostics on the card too). I have to add though, whether this was doing it between mount scripts and switching to Magisk I'm not 100% sure, it might have been.....but it's definitely there now. It's almost like it just doesn't like ext4 and doesn't really doesn't like those Mount Scripts.
Today I also reformat/repartitioned the card and did another slow error scan. So from scratch... the card is FINE as far as I can tell. This time it wouldn't mount at all since switching to Magisk. I've got it to mount through TWRP... so we're back working again. My ext4 app partition is working again with Link2SD but I'm still getting that annoying "corrupted" message in Settings > Storage WHEN IT ISN'T.
Is there some hidden settings somewhere in the stock ROM of 7.1.1 to change on the T380? Usually my devices let me pick from MTP, USB mass storage etc.... this one doesn't. It just connects to either Windows or my Surface and internal storage only.
I don't know what I'm really talking about... but it's almost like the system doesn't like that app partition... once it activated and had the Mount Scripts on it.... it was worse saying it was "corrupted" (when it isn't). Then we get back to my original problem which is getting the damn Fat32 to show up in Windows in the first place without having to take the card out of my tablet and plug it directly into Windows.
Any ideas? Thanks.
P.S. I even uninstalled and reinstalled all Samsung drivers.....dunno what to do
P.P.S. Could be an unrelated thing, but since masking everything from Samsung, when I do go to Settings now at some point between opening Settings and getting to the Storage section, I get a popup "SysScope has stopped" (or something similar). I'm not sure what that is.... but it's obviously trying to sniff around what I'm doing but I've blocked it. I doubt that's related to Fat32 and Windows, but wondering if its related to its dislike of my ext4 partition?
