Hero and Boost Mobile What ROM - Hero CDMA General

If I work the magic to get my hero on Boost which I won't discuss here, would I be able to use CM6 Roms or will I have to use a non sprint rom with boost?
Thanks for a great community.

I don't believe any rom will make a difference, as long as your EPST settings (within ##3282# are correct, you shouldn't have a problem

while that may be true, to get to those ##3282# settings, you will have to use a stock based rom such as FRESH. CM6 does not support those codes, that is why when activating a phone you have to flash away from CM6 while changing things because you cannot access those areas. After you get it working though, as tpyoknig said, it shouldn't matter.

Yes I am aware I will have to restore my original 1.5 nand to change the settings. I just wanted to make sure flashing back to CM6 or any other rom would not cause problems. I did not think that it would, just wanted to be on the safe side. This is my first bout with changing a phone to another carrier, I have read the Tutorials enough I could recite them in my sleep.
Thanks for the replies.

Should be just fine

So how do i flash boost mobile on my hero? any links?

What ROM is the question!
Every Hero CDMA ROM I've found seems to be sprint-based and therefore says "always roaming" and "error code 67".
If anyone knows how to make a UNIVERSAL CARRIER ROM without any attachment to Sprint, definitely let me know! Thank you!
EDIT: I have a Hero CDMA working on Verizon service and I got rid of the "always roaming" with a modified PRL I found at the PPCGeeks forum. Message me for details

well id love to hear your experience. trieng to make a generic rom was fun lol
I am on Reliance India and using Sprint on phone in Reliance
but some how all Latest Sprint Dump ROM dont work for 1x Data in India with all Radio
Old 1.56 RUU get me back to 1.5 Cupcake version with Data but all Damaged 2.05 and fresh ROM 2.02d Breaks the 1x Data Radio
Let me try this
Good Work
It's everything I would have expected to see in a 2.1 release from my carrier. The apps included are exactly what I remember being on my stock 1.5 but running much smother. I've only used it for 24 hrs or so (and now am awaiting a link yet another new rom to try out LOL) battery life seems good but had to get rid of 50% time without signal with airplane mode. nothing new. I couldn't get google voice outbound to work even using the 0.2 ver. but vmail came through fine. Superuser and all the lights worked. Had to use the fix to get quick Boot working
all in all tho GOOD WORK!! I Liked it.
Thank you
All ROMs that sprint has released they mostly work with CS Hero just few little problems here and there.
I will link this post if you dont mind to my post.
Thank you again

best AOSP

Been looking for a full functional AOSP to flash to my new galaxy s
Really want to wait to cyanogen but i'm too impatient.
Seen a few really nice ones out but most have disfunctional gps, wifi, or data...
can anyone suggest a good AOSP??
There are no true AOSP ROMs for the Vibrant yet... My personal favorite is Vibrant Hybrid R4 from Eugene. Link is in my signature.
Also, questions belong in the General section, not in the Development section
EDIT: I guess Eugene took the OP down but link to his site is here:
http://eb-productions.net84.net/vibrant-2.1-aosp-clone.htm
There is the AOSPish Froyo v1.1 or Hybrid the one just said or Heathens sXe v1.4 its froyo and it is really nice. The last one I said is new.

The reason i ask is
In canada, we seem to get all the OS updates 1000000 years after everyone else. Just flashed an "unofficial" copy of FROYO, didn't like it too much. in fact, bricked my phone, had to get me some resistors out
just want a decent clean galaxy.
I'll try the versions suggested in previous posts though
thanks for the info!!!

Yeah, waiting about for cm 6.1 thats actually for the vibrant has been taking forever, eh? Hopefully they will have an official froyo update soon, then a source drop like they did last time all these updates came in quick succession with ji4, 5, and 6.

For some reason-which I do believe was explained earlier in the thread- "flight mode" is enabled upon flashing this ROM. You have to reset it to "data network mode."
This is done by holding down the power button then selecting to turn off flight mode. I then select data network mode. Usually I follow this with a reboot, and when it starts, data has resumed.

In Canada, the Vibrant isn't really the Vibrant. It's the i9000 basically. Use i9000 firmware, or better yet Canada-Vibrant firmware.

Fascinate EB16 firmware?

http://twitter.com/#!/SamsungFUSNews/statuses/38172937131401217
Model: SCH-I500 | Code: USC | Version: SCH-I500USEB16/SCH-I500USEB16 | Date: 17.02.2011 14:09 | Size: 202,38 MB | ID: 1324135920
If someone could get firmware out from FUS server....
correct me if im wrong but isnt the us cellular mesmorize also the i500? and the code listed on twitter saying USC seems to indicate its not for us
(as someone who works on themes i dont think i can deal with porting to another tw build )
Yes, US Cellular (Code: USC) is the Mesmerize, and is also a SCH-I500. It isn't directly compatible with the Fascinate. They do list another I500, but with a code of XAR. I think this might be the Cellular South Showcase. I also believe it is like the Mesmerize in that it's not directly compatible with the Fascinate.
The code for Verizon is VZW.

I still personally believe they are all interchangable...just a matter of gettimg the settings right. My phone is running a verizon modem on a different carrier...
All of the mesmerize roms I've flashed booted just fine; its essentially the same hardware. The problems begin to arise when a different modem is used. In that sense its about as functional as a fascinate rom w/o phone or web capability.
In my case I found it to be a valuable tool in recovering from a brick. I always keep a stock mesmerize rom handy. It was the one thing that would flash and boot into recovery. From there odin could successfully flash a stock vzw i500 file and my phone worked again.
Lesson learned: don't touch the phone button in odin and read up every last bit of information available before taking similar risks.
That about sums up my experience with mesmerize roms.

But I think, regardless of the modem, it can be done. It's just a matter of using the correct configuration setup in qpst. For example, I'm using a Verizon modem on a completely different CDMA carrier. I just had to adjust the um and am in ppp config along with mob + simple bx in qpst and it works like a charm. So long as you have a functioning prl, it's just a matter of finding a tunnel for 3g. In other words, you would be using a flashed phone on US Cellular. I've used sprint phones on verizon, both sprint and verizon on cricket ect. It's just a matter of finding the right settings.
I was not aware this was possible. Interesting. Are there any advantages besides the obvious one of carrier choice?

I feel bad for US and Southwest Cellular users b/c of their lack of development capabilities so I was willing to look into it for them. As far as advantages, I've found ironically that some radios do enhance call quality, but having the correct prl is key. Our phones share identical hardware...only difference is the modem software. It's funny though no one has noticed it though, but often ppl will flash dl09 or eb01 modems and still get partial use, either data or call/text. It's obvious it's working, however since you're no longer on that previous radio, the settings would have to be adjusted. Honestly, if anyone is willing to try...I don't mind helping.

Verizon f'd up with me bigtime talkin about 197 a month for two fascinates ?! wtf ... and thats not even unlimited minutes, I have unlimited everything on both phones for 55$ a piece. with 3.13$ of tax, not 25$, the 3g is negligibly different from verizons, at a fraction of the cost. Voice and text actually come through more often for me, i wasn't getting calls etc when using verizon.
Two fascinates, Android plan, $113.13. My oldest daughter is born on 12/13/05 so the 13 doesn't bother me, it was actually a good sign, especially with a new baby on the way next month. Until I get this job, and can afford a 200$ phone bill (alone until she goes back to work) i'm going to stick with cricket. Good thing is, I can always go back to vzw, purchase a phone outright as an upgrade, and then flash that one back to cricket also now that I know how to

I actually really enjoy cricket. PRL hacking is easy with them, and they share towers with sprint anyways. The best part though is you're not limited to any specific phone or carrier. I can use any CDMA android I want.

That's correct. At least I think I did. I tried many bizarre combinations of tar files in just about every button in odin. I didn't know any better.
If it really is IMPOSSIBLE to recover from a phone flash then I don't know what to think anymore.

To summarize: every CDMA Galaxy S ROM will work as long as I do one of the following:
1) Install a Verizon I500 modem
-or-
2) Use the correct settings with the existing modem.
I wanted to install AOSP 2.2, and then replace the parts that didn't work from another ROM, but I was worried about this part. This information helps. Thank you.

I'd still save back ups incase you run into problems. But as long as you use a modem that is for an i500 it's a matter of finding the right settings. I'm trying to find one I can teenker with for the non verizon users.

i'm a showcase user and I flashed the EB16... the modem works Perfect? I guess you can say... last night i was getting very slow speeds using speedtest app, but today i've gotten the fastest speeds ever... So i think it may be just the fact that Cell South's network is so finicky.. I've always gotten different speed test even when i was stock, from 1 test to the next will be drastically different..
However the problems i've having with the ROM are:
GPS button will not turn on....
When you reboot you have to re log in to gmail/twitter/facebok
for some reason Exchange email stays logged in..
ADB won't give SU access because it says it's a production build..
It won't let me access the market..
I think it's the same problems for the mesmerize, and more than likely will be the case for the Fascinate..
But if we could all figure this out, then we could possibly have 1 ROM for all 3 phones making it simple to port themes/mods/etc...
I really wish some DEVS would help us out with this..

I believe it's def. doable. It's just a matter of trying to figure out a way for the roms to have universal settings. All I500's store their values for their network in the same location, hence the reason why qpst will register the phones as the same phone. The only thing I've noticed different is the modem and the way the rom reacts to the modem and those settings. For example, I am in the process of using kaos v5 and it has reset my connections. No 3g but talk and text. If I can figure out how the values are being pulled I can adjust the settings and we may be a step closer to having gingerbread on all three devices.

moving carriers

Have a friend who wants to switch from sprint to metro pcs. Need to find out if it is possible to buy the phone from sprint and switch it to metro. Is this possible?
I don't know how, never tried, but there's tons of little cell shops where I live that'll take any Sprint phone to Metro PCS, even with a bad esn.
You can. you have to use a program called qpst and qxdm. Real higher level phone memory stuff with a higher chance of bricking your phone if you don't know what your doing.

Yes, it can be done. Actually, Im having quite the opposite problem. I have an evo shift that has already been flashed over to metro.
My problem is trying to figure out how the hell to flash back to sprint. (Phone has clean esn and I did verify thru sprint)
Also, Im willing to do a dump here, so others can just flash the dump on their phones or whatever it is that I could do to help the next group of folks who want to flash from sprint to metro, before I flash back to stock.
Guess I have to go dig/search thru a few hundred threads or so.

lol, whatever program/method they use is the one that WE want to stay away from. Reason being is this: They (metro) have not figured out how to get mms working and a few other things.
Well, im not saying their program totally doesnt work, but it doesnt totally work either!!
The closest thing i can find is how to flash the EVO over to metro. Since this is a "modded" version of the evo, then shouldnt the same tools/method work for flashing back to sprint on the SHIFT?

Without knowing what software version you're on, the first part of your question is hard to answer. As for the second question, what may be the best ROM for one user may not be the best for another, so it's up to you to decide which ROM works best by trying a few out.

Thanks for the reply FinZ28. How can I check my software version? As far as the best ROM I meant generally speaking the top 3 most popular?
Go to Menu>Settings>About phone to find your software version. As far as "most popular", I can't really help you there. There are too many choices and I haven't flashed a ROM on a OG EVO in awhile.

If you have a hardware issue with the device, the software on it is irrelevant. And Sprint services rooted devices.
Thanks for the heads up Cap. BTW is it possible to make service/3g better on this phone? I feel like when I was using ASOP Rom the service was a lot better...At times my text messages dont go thru, I seem to get drop calls more often, & things just feel a lot slower on this stock sense rom that came with the phone..
Cap what ROM are you using?
Is it possible for 3g to be worse using stock sprint sense rom vs an ASOP rom ? I remeber when I had ASOP rom my 3g would hardly lag compared to now its constantly lagging...

AOSP is slimmer than Sense, so the device will typically run faster with it. But I cant imagine signal is actually better, since the stock stuff is built specifically for the device.
Well Im not sure about that. When using AOSP my 3g hardly ever stopped working when I was at the gym. Now it stops at least 5 times...Does everything work on Evervolv KitKat Rom cant seem to find it on the forums? Im trying to find a ROM where all things are working well & is very fast.

The only way you'll have a ROM with everything working on this device is to use Gingerbread.

that's the general consensus, eh?
i just brought my og evo out of retirement after my wife lost her iphone 5.
i figure this can tide her over until we decide what to do...change carriers, what phones to get, etc...
if i want her to have a phone with working/hacked hotspot and wimax...is there anything over gingerbread that will run it?
also, will i be tied to sense only roms?
thanks for the suggestions, gang.
mods...if i don't hear anything out of this thread...i hope you don't mind, but, i'll start an original thread.
thanks, gang!

WiMAX will only work on Gingerbread, like I said previously. But you can run CM7 and still have working WiMax, so I guess that's something .

thanks, captain throwback...
it's funny to hear that cm7...SEVEN...is an option.
just serves to remind me how long i've had the phone.
so, maybe cm7 will do the trick for a while.
any variation of it you in mind? or, just straight cm7?
thanks, again!
