I'm used to my Captivate and the maket. I have a friend that has an HD2 and I tried to get launcher pro and desktop visualizer so she can put some custom icons up. However, these are not available in the market. I guess it's a different market because of windows live or whatnot.
So is there a thread that shows other customized HD2 screens? I'd really like to make her phone looks a bit more sweet than bare stock.
Weeeellll....seeing as those are Android applications...yeah, they aren't availble nor will they work for the Windows Mobile running HD2. And yes, there is, at the top of this forum in the stickies there is a customization thread that has links to everything you could ever need, I would check that out first, then maybe head over to the main Leo section here at XDA and check out the themes and apps forum for even more stuff.

Hi,
I just watched the video from the new HTC Hero:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/24/htc-hero-details-begin-leaking-from-htcs-own-website/
It is Android, but most of the screen is Manila, copied and slighty re-designed from Windows mobile, so 90 percent is the actual diamond 2. But if you look carefully, you see some NEW additions:
-Advanced Image viewer with mirror plane, facebook and flickr added
-Advanced music player, new design
-Advanced calendar with agenda view
-Footstep added
-NEW Email client
-NEW Stopwatch
-NEW Timer
if the copy lots of features from windows mobile, then I expect HTC to copy those new Features back to windows mobile manila.
Just checked out the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kshGq8COSiM
This TF3D like UI looks awesome!!! I just need to buy this phone! I always thought android looked boring as hell but the HERO will be my first android device for sure. It's beautiful!!!
The Name of the new interface ist "sense" afaik!
i really dont like it X_X the small ball on the phone
Not keen on the phone but the UI looks very interesting, would love to have this on my Touch Diamond but is it possible as the Hero is Android?
LOL,
Looks more like the gadgets you could insert in the Android itself.
I think only feature is the scroll bar. That is the trick that we can think it's a new manilla
look here http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=5239
a porting to windows mobile is planned.
Since this is regarding an Android device, and not actually posting an application, moving out of Dev and Hack.
i can't wait to see how htc will merge Manila and new wm 6.5 titanium UI .. I hope the new Interface merge tabs and titanium plugins that can be added to multiple manila pages

Cooollllll........
wow...really like the UI
Love the UI, but here is probably why it is so difficult to run Hero ROMs with Rosie on our Dreams.
"512MB/288MB ROM/RAM"
More ROM, and nearly 100 more MB of RAM than the G1.
is it possible to port this on G2??
i think it is because it is the same device and same os.....
HEHE first screenie had P.U.T.S on it
People Under The Stairs = best underground hiphop group!!!
Sorry didnt mean to side track this thread. But looking nice, Android OS looking on the up nd up
Probably a stupid question and I appologise in advance, but is there any way of running Windows Mobile apps on Android. I quite like the look of HTC Desire.
The trackball thingy looks good, I really miss the "D" button on my Touch HD.
Problem I have is I use a couple of Windows Mobile based programmes for work and couldn't really give them up. So is it Desire or HD2

Withing the android market there are tons tons of apps that are the same or better than many of the current windows mobiles apps, you would just have to find the android counterpats and or similar apps.
I've been looking through the forums, searching my butt off, etc but I'm still unable to get where I want to go - so time to ask around. Hopefully it won't turn out I'm just a crappy searcher....
So! I really enjoy SPB Mobile Shell, especially after you slap a TouchFlo/Sense-like skin on it. It's faster and more customizable than Sense itself and looks great.
I'd also like to have a fresh WinMo 6.5 as a foundation for it.
Furthermore, I'd like for that WinMo to have the actual HTC controls - volume, dialer, preferrably even alarm settings and the proper Blackstone communications setup apps. I would not, however, want it to be polluted with lots of other crap like useless MS apps or PDF readers or whatever.
So, is there such a ROM? If there is not, but there is a super clean 6.5 ROM - has anyone extracted the HTC control apps (the actual ones for Blackstone, not some crappy HTC-like **** apps from 2008 which was all I could find) into cab form, and can they be found anywhere?
Thanks.

Blackstone Henge Hyper 2.5 version 7 i think it is...pretty basic, stripped down version of windows 6.5. (not sure what ur referring to with actual htc control apps?) But, I'm using this RoMU now..running CHT to skin it, looks great, runs smooth. Only one possible issue--battery life seems to be rather poor compared to others Ive used equipped w/ far more application that required more performance from the OS. I'm looking for the prob/ solution. Perhaps too many cabs, as opposed to running a RoM with several of them already built into it...Anyway, could be what ur looking for.
Well, I was referring to having a "HTC Sense" looking dialer and volume controls etc as opposed to the exceedingly ugly ones that come with stock Windows Mobile. If you get a full-featured ROM you get the HTC communication manager, HTC dialer etc that look really nice compared to the stock. Those bits are the only ones I'd personally like in addition to the stock stuff though (and not even all of the stock stuff).
In the end I went for a very light ROM that did have Manila as well, then turned Manila off in the Today settings. It's not ideal, but it works pretty well and I have a fair amount of memory to play with still to install the apps I really want and none of the dreck I don't need.
It's a shame there's no ROM that is both very light, has the HTC apps like the dialer and comms manager and volume control etc and is built on a really fresh WinMo release... but this works I guess.

-Hey mate, yea I see what ur saying. Still check out the Blackstone Henge RoM, it sounds like what ur looking for. Very stripped down, but still utilizing the finger friendly volume control, slider, dialer, and communication manager. But the RoM build has removed alot of useless, ram draining applications. Give it a go mate if ur up to it..may just suit ur needs. Good luck.
It might be a stupid thread and stupid question and I believe the ANSWER of it might be …… it will never happen.
BUT
Is it possible? Can it be?
I am not a good fan of Android as I had a lot of problem with Nexus one,
I have been using windows mobile since ages, my first was the IPAQ, Imate PDA2K, HTC cruse, Diamond, HD (BlackStone) and Nexus one < --- just to test Android
I might be wrong judging the Android but here are my notes:
- No X button to close the applications so they just keep running in the background
- No file browser
- It was hard to make it run the WMV and still not good
- I understand in the WM 6.5 no Transcriber and block recognizer, but I think it can be managed
- No today desktop to be customized as I like to see my task and calendar
- Office is not there the way you want
And many manay other issues
Well sorry for the (too much writing) but maybe I could get some help here or people might enlighten me
THX
Honestly I have no idea how to install Wm on that phone...and I would never want to if I were yu...but ur issues don't seem to lye with android...yu just need to do some market browsing because there is a program called advanced task killer that kills apps in the background..it also has a nifty little home widget...yu can also download astro file explorer to search files on ur phone...just like in wm ...there are apps and Widgets for all the issues yu stated...the best advice I can give tho is that if yu want a wm phone...then buy one...hold out for the hd7 and see if someone might trade yu for ur desire HD...hope I've helped..
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Thanks for the answer and as I said I already knew it will not be possible, HD with WM7 is close to android, no today screen and it is almost Iphone, I might sound old fashion but I believe it is hard to change things you got used to
I am a Linux user too (Ubuntu Lucid) is what I am using, I believe I will give Desire HD a try and see, maybe I might be able to find a way to install WM on it maybe I give Android a better look and see what it has.

1. No, there is no "X" button, but Android's memory management is clever enough that you don't need one.
2. There are plenty of file browsers available on the Marketplace
3. I assume you mean .wmv videos? Not sure on this one.
4. Not sure about this
5. You can get all manner of widgets for Android that show calendars and you can get task managers etc.
6. No, office isn't perfect, but it's getting better.
If all of this is really a concern for you - why not just get an HD2? It's the same screen size and most of the same features (give or take megapixels, DLNA and a couple of bits and pieces here and there). At least then you can run WM6.5 as default and toy with the Android port which is developing really well in the meantime.
Don't want you to hate me guys BUT i did use the HD2, and here are my notes:
-Battery runs out fast
-don't like the new start menu
-no pen comes with it (i understand that all new HTC don't) i am OK with it, BUT it is not smooth the way you want in HD2.
well i am sorry to cause you headache guys i am really lost here and i do like HTC phones it is just cannot find the one that do serves me as my HD (blackstone) do
The only thing i would spare the HD (BlackStone) is its slowness.
I might consider desire HD and give it a try.
Here is what I am talking about

@jmohik : So you wanna step back in time to WM6.1 ... if you dont like HD2 now... all the new phones (anytime soon now) are start gonna ship with WM7 .... as per your feedback and requirements, I believe you will ditch WM smartphones altogether
Btw...dont know what more do you want from a HD2 which is able to run a WM6.1, WM6.5, WM6.5.5, All Android Builds, and soon WM7 !
As far as battery, I get 1.5 days out of it .... dont expect more from such beasts...if you do, switch to Nokia
as i said ... i don't want you to hate me guys, and i said it is not easy to change things you got used to ....
well .... i will get the desire HD and i guess i will start on using it.
and BTW i also have a NOKIA E75
Thats the spirit !
It'd be far more interesting to know whether its possible to hack a WM7 rom onto the phone, seeing as the hardware looks identical to the HD7 that HTC are releasing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm Android all the way but theres no harm in experimenting!
I think you just need to spend 2-4 weeks with an Android phone running HTC Sense. I used to use a WM6.1 device, then WM6.5 and then moved to the HTC Hero which was on Android 1.5, and now 2.1. Since the first day I got the Hero, I have not looked back at WM. There really is no question about it.
I understand it all comes down to personal preference, but a Linux user like yourself should find Android easier to work with than those who don't use Linux.
As one of the other guys mentioned above, there are plenty of apps on the market you can get for free which do pretty much everything you say you want. The reason HTC don't provide a stylus these days is the screens are now capacitive not resistive, and better suited to fingers and thumbs. You can still get a stylus, but it would cost more.
P.S. I don't really have much love for the stock Android experience, as on the Nexus One... HTC Sense over the top of it is just amazing... in my opinion, but like I said, everyone has their own personal preference..!
i had an HD2 running wm6.53 and Android from the SD card. Dual booting serves no purpose BUT ITS GREAT!!!
I will get this device when its out as my HD2 died. I would love to be able to dual boot to WM7 just to give it a go.

Surely your HD2 is still within its 12 month warranty! I've had mine since it came out, that isn't even a year yet!
No one will put the time and effort in to port WP7 to an Android device, it just won't really be feasible given the amount of people who will actually want it.
Also, I can imagine it being a lot harder to go, given that WP7 is closed source, and Android is open source.
i have watched a few videos on youtube about windows 8, i have come across the, Windows phone 7 style, and then there is the windows 7 desktop style!
and i have a few questions about them.
how is the windows phone 7 style going to work on non touch computers? if i have to click on every tile that is going to be dumb.
and the windows 7 desktop style, i watched a couple videos and its about julinux?!?! what is this??? its based on ubuntu? did microsoft buy linux? or is it just a REEEALLY good fake??
They are the same, but windows 8 has a "Windows 7 mode".
The defoult "theme" is the windows phone 7 style
They arent "2 version"
but they are getting rid of start menu changing it for the start screen with tiles.
its the same, both are launchers, so you launch your apps, your documents and apps from there. just like old start menu
of course now, you got a full screen launcher, with nice tiles which tell you info.
now there will be metro style UI apps. but since there arent metro style UI apps nor store in developer preview, there isn't much point to use the new UI. more than as a launcher, thats when we use desktop.
what is desktop? its like an app, to run desktop UI software, like we did before. now it will be like an app, since it wont be the centric point of Windows anymore.
but Windows needs to run the normal desktop software and thats the only way, having old desktop there.
and everything Works nice with nontouch. i have been using developer preview for a week and it works cool.
and obviously you have to click on tiles, tiles = icons, but they can display information, which is useful when you use more metro style UI which means having real apps and not samples like DP.
i dont know how that is dumb, since its the same you did with old start menu.
but its like the same, a launcher but gives more. since you will get information like windows phone, it looks cool (if you change some dll info like i did), and its for touch AND mouse and keyboard. so it can be used the way you want or need.
its a big change, but it doesn't change the same of what you already have with start menu.
if people complained about start menu from xp to vista. obviously people will complain about new UI. but its all about getting used to it, it took me some hours. to make it work similar way to start menu. so yeah it works fine. but not everyone will like this change.

Indeed its the same version, something ive found really awkward is that the Metro interface works really well on a touch device, i find it quick and easy to use and when PROGRAMS (!!!!) start using the tiles it will only get better, however i just find it a bit awkward using the mouse, it just itsnt as fluid and almost feels clumsy.
its fine for just launching stuff but to flick back an forward doesnt feel right, Win 8 has its place secured in the tablet market but Metro on Win 8 is going to have a hard time on non-touch desktop computers, win 8 its self is great on a desktop id like to add, even in its current state.
i cant remember where i read it but some one sumed it up quite well with
whats Win 8? Its Win 7 on Speed! (a Drug)
