OTA 707.1 update

...appears and seems to fix 'incoming ring volume' and 'increased stability of data connection'.
Doesn't look like Froyo to me.
Anyone tried yet?

Okay...will give it a try, will probably be prerequisite to Froyo anyway.
I have an unbranded Legend from Singapore, running on IM3/Indosat in Bali/Indonesia.

Update ran through without a hitch. Google Maps stayed at 4.4 (had it updated before manually via .apk), but now has Pinch-to-Zoom enabled. Cool, finally!
Seems like more free RAM now available than before.
Only thing not working so far is Swype Beta. Gotta get update for that.
Alright. So far so good.
And out. ;-)

Swype fix: simply uninstall main program. Run installer, download new beta, works!

^ Anyone can confirm if this update also have the SMS thread bug as in 405.2?

Helo ther mate i had the same problem with swype just reinstall it and it works again.

The Google Maps 4.4 apk can be found somewhere here in the forum, just do a thread search.
And yes, I can confirm the same sms bug like in the European update. But I use Handcent, so it doesn't annoy me.

I found that the youtube application had changed.now there is a option for hd from toolbar and in settings

Yeah, well they told us it would expire a couple weeks ago and made the latest beta available for download.

Yep it sucks. I had to buy Ultra-Keyboard as a replacement and while it has more options I just don't like it as much. Looking forward to when Swype is released.

Yes its very annoying, had a hacked version and worked fine. Did enroll in beta, and it stops working now and then. uninstall and down load again from swype installer

Same here with the on again off again swype ****. Got annoyed and bought the swiftkey kb when it was released from beta. I have to admit, being an avid swype user for a good 2 months, trying multi-touch kb's and such, I have to admit I personally like swiftkey a bit better. Seems to be better to predict words better when typing.

kpjimmy, how long did it take for you to get use to SwiftKey? I've tried it for a little bit like a text or two and found that I still prefer Swype. Then again I'm not a big fan of using the word predict. No idea why it should make my life more simple.
Good thing I signed up for the Swype Beta earlier so I keep getting up dates. I can't imagine not using it. I know some people using SlideIT and Shapewriter since they didn't get on the Swype Beta in time. They seem to like it.

I've gotten used to Ultra KB after swype. I'll wait for the official release until then.

Well personally, when I type, I mistype some of the times and when that happens, instead of erasing/correcting by backspacing my mistakes, the swiftkey app predicts the words I would most use in my sentence. I admit, I am not a frequent texter but I do use the kb to type in passwords (of course do not predict), but the userID's I use are remembered, which is a plus for me.
Really it is what you are used to and comfortable with. It took me only about 3 days to get used to it and for a buck I think it was well worth the money. Dont get me wrong, swype is cool, even my wife likes it and she's no teckkie. LOL. For me swype got old when I was using it lately and to me, loses the sense of touch-typing and at times, I forget what the heck I was intending to type/swype. Add that to the on again off again swype which bugged the **** out of me to go out and find a kb that actually worked. I even liked the multi type kb that eVil has in his roms lol.

I'm about over Swype. The new version's word guessing feature is so screwed up, I end up having to correctly probably 80% of the words I type on it. Swype has gone from a pleasurable experience to a frustrating experience. Boo.

This guy is hosting cracked versions w/o beta expire stuff.
Installed it and works well...Installing from some random guy is kind of sketchy though as who know if theres not a key logger bundled with it

Warez, and the propagation of warez, is against the rules of XDA.
Just so you know, Swype Inc. has requested that their product not be distributed, making it warez in the eyes of XDA.

haha yeah.. evertime i start using a new beta and get used to it... it goes expired and so i swithc back to the HTC kb and get used to that... cycle repeat

Does the Swype Beta work on the Hero

Does anyone know if the new Swype Beta keyboard works on the Hero?
I loaded the old version, and it required a higher resolution at that time, but before I mess up my perfectly working daughter's phone (who is leary of my experimentation), I wanted to know.

yes it does I just recently did the December update and it's working fine. Just make sure you use the swype installer so you can sign in and use the keyboard fully.

i personally prefer Shapewriter...

Yes, it works great on my Hero. I've been using it for the past 6 or 7 months without any issues. Takes a little while to get used to, especially if you're moving over from a physical keyboard. The last update (December) made some nice changes. I would likely throw my phone in the trash if I had to use the stock keyboard! Go get it, its easy. Like the other poster said, be sure to get the legal copy. Good luck!

Be careful though, I just found out that heroes auto corrects to herpes...particularly important for us.

Yea the new swype works well but when you install make sure you have data on and let the user license agreement go through or else you will get an error saying this version was formatted for another device.

I upgraded recently from the previous version of Swype on my Hero, and it started giving me the features won't work error which caused it not to swype at all. But reading the Swype forums, they advised to uninstall both Swype and the Swype installer apps and then reboot and reload Swype installer and install Swype again. After I did that, Swype is now working properly.

anyone have the apk?

my favorite part of the new update is the voice button finally!

They just opened the beta again.

Just search for it on google. There's a hacked version that works perfect. I've been using it for about a month.

I have tried all of them, and even purchased one. I got into the beta program a couple of weeks ago before it opened, and like it the best so far. Very good.

I'm not trying to dig this thread up, but I just signed up for beta and got it working on aosp 2.2. I couldn't be happier. Hopefully I'll be able to keep or buy it after the beta period is up.

When the beta first hit, it worked perfectly, now every single time I download it I get a blue box around the keyboard when I tap anything. It's useless now, which is a shame, because I loved it. Anybody know a fix that isn't part of the troubleshooting list on the actual site?

Have you tried reinstalling the swype installer? I had to download it again from them and do it all over. Also, try this: tap any text box to bring up your swype board, long press to change to android keyboard, let it pop up, then long press to change back to swype. 99% of the time that fixes the blue box for me.

Swype re-opened beta's for android users. Just registered and downloaded whole process takes 5 minutes! Hopefully my search was correct and no one had posted this yet But anyway its here now!

It's because you don't have your browser's UAstring set to Android.

Or mobile view is turned off. All I had to do when I saw that was turn mobile view on and bingo.

yeah, i am heavily enjoying it. i have never had swype on either of my droids so its a big upgrade for me. feels and works awesome im amazed at how well it recognizes the right word even when my fat fingers hit the wrong letter haha.

After trying swype on the galaxy tab I had to try it on my inc. I am liking it so far. Pretty neat really.

So on two phones I'm using this beta, officially signed up for it, installed through the official installer, all that.
After a re-boot on one phone swype just ceases to function, it acts like it's expired. An uninstall/reinstall fixes it but very annoying.
On the other phone, I get an error message saying it was designed for a different device and some functions won't work, and the primary function that doesn't work is... swyping the words. Uninstall/reinstall fixes the problem.
What the hell? Using unauthorized versions in the last 6 months it's worked perfectly, now using an official beta, trying to go legit, it doesn't work. Both phones using the SkyRaider 3.3 ROM (exact same configuration on both, both phones are launch date phones).

Not sure what that could be from. I have been on a lot of roms in the past 48 hours SkyRaider not being one though got stuck on CM 6.1 and in love lol. Maybe there is soemthing new in the code that messes things up? I dont know about code unfortunately but i have NO problems so far. Wish i could be of more help

Easier fix for the not working after reboot: long press in a text field, change the input thing from swype to something else, then change it back to swype. Should fix it.

I had issues with Swype not detecting the occasional, uh, swype? Switched back to the default keyboard. Now using IncredibleGingerbread and the multitouch keyboard is better than Swype by far. Fast and accurate.

mine gets stuck every now and then and I have to just go back to stock and back to swype.
Currently, I think swype is amazingly accurate. I feel like I'm just scribbling on the keypad. I'm never going back.

Try changing keyboards then back to swype. This solves the problem for me.
Btw is there anyway to backup the user dictionary between installs?

I'm using the new FireFox 4 Beta. What is mobile view? Can I enable/disable it on my phone if so where?
Also i've always used the standard keyboard and I type with my thumbs. I am finding it rather hard to swype with my thumbs.
Do you guys use your thumbs or index fingers? Also any suggestions for someone converting from stock to swype to get my adjusted quicker and be able to use it more naturally other than just time?

Type very fast with all 10 fingers and pretty fast with two thumbs on the Dinc. But using this Swype for the last two days it's a struggle and have only been able to use my right thumb. Do seem to be getting better all the time though.
Was a major PITA to get it to work with Better Keyboard for some reason.

It should work on 6.1 Did you have data available when you installed? If not, that may be the error, as it needs data to transfer for registration.

Did you uninstall all previous versions of Swype before installing the new one? Go to manage applications, clear data and cache, then uninstall Swype installer. Then do the exact same for Swype itself. Then reboot phone.
Then download Swype installer, and download Swype. Should be good then

Finally got rid of my pirated swype and have the real one its allot smoother .and yes you have to uninstall swype if you already have it to install the new one.

I uninstalled, but didn't clear data. Maybe that was the problem.

Success! That did the trick. I had to reset a couple of times, but it's working now.
I had the same problems with my friend's Droid (trying to get it updated on hers), but a simple uninstall/reinstall worked. Forgot to even try resetting.

I got that too. i went to their forums and found this
ERROR: Swype is configured for another device and will operate with limited functionality
This error indicates that there is a problem with the Swype registration files on your device. First, make sure you've followed the Basic Troubleshooting Steps. Then, try the following:
* If you've recently upgraded your system software you will need to reinstall Swype. You can request a new email containing the Swype Beta download link by logging into http://beta.swype.com and clicking the "Resend Activation Email" link in the lower right.
* If your first installation attempt fails, you can use the installers built-in repair functionality to get up and running. Simply run the Swype Installer a second time and it will guide you through the steps of repairing your license.
* If none of the above solutions work for you, please make a post in the existing "Swype is configured for another device" thread.

When I went back to the installer it said my license was invalid. I followed the instructions I bolded and it fixed itself.
I wonder if this thing is ever going to come out of beta.

i would say less than 20 minutes to adjust to the new format...and im not sure im a whole lot faster, but im making way less mistakes. i really like it so far!
