AT&T Tab with normal aircard sim - Galaxy Tab General

Hey guys,
Still trying to determine which brand of tab i should get. I have a work air-card with an AT&T sim in it. Will this work with the AT&T version of the tab? The sim is supposed to be used in the aii-card so as long as it does not report back to AT&T that it is in a device which it was note designed to be in I'll be fine. The air-card plan does cost more than the normal plan, so i don't think they will complain about this, but just thought i would check.

As far as i could tell no it wont work with the aircard sim with the data feature being a bit dofferent from the one you need that att is selling right now which is the smart phone plans for the galaxy tab

i believe that the tab uses the micro sim. Not %100 sure.

The At&t tab uses a normal sized SIM card so it'll fit. Your aircard plan will work, but if you flash it to make phone calls then you will get charged extra since broadband connect plans do not come with voice allocation.

[Q] ATT Galaxy Tab with IPAD Sim

I have an IPAD with $30 unlimited plan. On the 21st ATT is releasing their version of the Galaxy. Can I use my simm off the IPAD on the Galaxy. Now that would be kick ass...
Thanks
If you use an adapter, it should be just fine, though AT&T might be tracking the IMEI numbers of their version of the Tab to prevent this.
Apple kickbacks are sort of helping cover the costs of that plan, and you can bet Apple won't be too happy to see it used on non-Apple devices.
AT&T has said they are going to offer the same "iPad" data plans on the Galaxy Tab, so they probably wouldn't care if you swapped SIMs.

Yeah, but I think he's got one of the old plans they're no longer offering.
Micro. I just bought a tab. Put my Att berry sim. It did not work. Also, I couldn't connect to iPhone or iPad running my-wi.
WTH
R u saying you can't use tethering the Tab & iPhone? There is a post on how to use Ad-hoc wireless on the tab and it works. Either in this sub-forum or the General one.
I just picked up an AT&T Galaxy Tab and it works fine with the iPad sim. No need to change the APN either. I'm using a grandfathered $30/mo unlimited plan too.

The AT&T Tab is released in the US tomorrow, Sunday 11/21/2010.
I don't know if anyone has one yet and was able to make calls on the device.
I also don't know if you can take a regular AT&T SIM and insert it in the Galaxy Tab.
It's a mystery.

It does take a SIM card. The 360 degree view on AT&T website shows the slot is there. Just not yet sure if it is a standard or micro SIM card slot. But, I am 99.99% sure it is a standard SIM card slot. Haven't heard of Samsung using the micro on the device yet.
It is a standard size SIM. I was able to use my SIM out of my Nexus One

Can you switch the SIM card between Galaxy Tab and the regular smartphone?

Is it possible to switch my SIM card between a T-Mobile smartphone (Vibrant) and the Galaxy Tab or does it have to provisioned specifically for the Tab?
Didnt work for me.

Unfortunately, i can't say about USA and their contracts and activations and whatevers (which is your case), in case of Europe the answer is of couse yes, you can switch SIMs as you wish, as there is no direct link between the SIM card and any device.
Yes you can. I switch between my nexus and galaxy tab. But that's just me. If you can get the data plan from your phone working on your tab then your golden. Don't ask how I did it though.

Negative, in order for the tab to connect using 3G, it has to have a "webconnect" data plan like the usb stick that you use with laptops. This is different from the data plan that the vibrant has. I was in TMo earlier today to buy a Tab and asked, there was a rep there that personally tried to do the same thing. I didn't buy the tab though, I'm not sure if I want to pay for data on 2 devices ocnsidering I may not use 3G on the Tab much. Maybe I'll wait for the wifi only.

On which version of tab? I am thinking to buy the AT&T version of Tablet if I can use my smartphone SIM from X10. I intend to use tablet only with WiFi 99% of the time. But would like to have the flexibility to use smartphone SIM while on travel/vacation.
u should be able too
Europe, Hungary
SIM cards can be swapped freely between the tab and a regular phone. Service limitations may occur depending on the SIM card inserted.
I use my tab as a work phone too, and I've got a data plan with a voice plan by definition a smart phone plan. Works great

[Q] Will the Tab work with an android phone internet sim?

So I just bought the tab at retail price and activated a monthly plan for it. What I want to know is whether or not the device would work with a sim that only had an android data plan versus the web connect rate plan. I would obviously rather pay less if at all possible. Thank you in advance for any advice you may have to offer.
P.S. Loving the tab so far. Even more capable than i thought.
The answer depends on what carrier you are using. US t-mobile allows for webconnect only. At&t seems allows for use phone Sim card from tmo but you will get only edge because of 3g incompatibility between these networks. I did not try reverse option.

[Q] How to use SIM from phone in tab 7.7

I have the SGNexus from verizon with LTE and the phone has a uSIM card in it. I just picked up the SGTab 7.7 last night but did not activate (bought outright).
So, I may wish to use the uSIM card in the tab but am aware that there are things the carriers look for to prevent this and I'd like to prevent them from screwing me. Again, I don't expect to do this much but would like the OPTION of doing so.
What do I need to do and not do to use the uSIM from my SGNexus in my SGTab 7.7?
Thanks,
Brian
So this is the VZW Tab 7.7? I was assuming they would bake the SIM into the tab to prevent exactly what you want to do, but I haven't actually seen one yet. In the P6800, there is a SIM slot along the same side as the microSD slot--does your tab have a SIM slot? If not, you won't be able to switch for sure. If there is a full-size SIM slot, you just need an adapter, which is easy to get or make (can probably get one for like $1 on ebay).
Also, I wouldn't expect VZW to allow your phone SIM to work on a tablet in any case. Even if you could put the SIM in, VZW will know from the IMEI that you are using a tablet and (I assume) force you to change plans or whatever.

At 5:10 of this silly unboxing video the SIM slot is in view.

I didn't think they would have an open SIM slot on the Verizon unit either, but maybe it has the capability of being unlocked?

Interesting. So yeah, OP: go get a SIM adapter, plug in your SIM, and see what Verizon says to you! Good luck.
Before I go that route I'd like to make sure I avoid anything that would give me away. I'm not sure that's possible but since there are a lot of smart folks on this board I'll wait a bit to give it a shot.
I think the thing I'd most likely use it for is in-car navigation on the longer trips. I have the Verizon SGNexus with LTE and I have the hotspot option so I could use it in that mode to drive the navigation on the tab so maybe swapping in the SIM wouldn't be that big a deal.
Still, it would be nice to have the option...

It's not possible to hide the fact that you're using a tab 7.7 from Verizon unless you're willing to try to change your IMEI (and messing with /efs is pretty dangerous). I'm not saying it's totally impossible, but it'd be difficult at the very least. As you say, there are a lot of smart people here, so maybe someone will work out a way--but I wouldn't hold my breath. Still, no way to know if it'll work unless you try it.
Personally, I bought the wifi version because tethering to a phone is easy and a lot cheaper--save $100 at the start, plus no second data plan at absurd US carriers' prices. I think many of the people who bought the international 3G version were thinking the same as you--they can swap their phone SIM in if they want. However, the unlocked version identifies on the network just like any phone, unlike the Verzion version, which is locked down by Verizon and doesn't even ship with phone software.
I toyed with the idea of importing a wifi only version but decided I didn't want to lose the next door support if I have a problem so I went with Verizon and so far as I can tell they will only offer the LTE version. If putting my phone SIM in it is not going to work or work for long then it will be just a wifi only version albeit about $100 more expensive. I think I could reclaim some of the difference on resell though...
I really hope ICS is coming soon as I don't much like HC...

Forgive my ignorance guys but what is this verizon with LTE?
I am not in the U.S., for me the P6800 model works with a normal GSM SIM or 3G SIM out of the box.

Verizon is a US carrier that does not use GSM. The Verizon version of the GT7.7 has different hardware then the standard GT7.7 and it is unclear if you can just swap the Verizon LTE sim from one Verizon device to their GT7.7 and have full functionality.

LTE is the reason why a simcard is utilized. I'm pretty certain that rest of the cdma/evd0 doesn't utilize the simcard
