If I buy the nexus s with a tmobile contract, is the phone still unlocked or are their 2 versions of the phone?

my understanding is there are not 2 versions of the phone. Its misleading but the "unlocked version" is just the version sold without contract

Wish they were taking pre orders

A Google rep on this forum stated there is only one type, unlocked. Best Buy updated their FAQ.
This is what BB originally had which may have confused people. I posted a comment on AndroidandMe about it and it seems that BB changed it to a less confusing answer.

Are there two different versions of the Nexus S, locked and unlocked?

Sorry for the wrong info, it's not every smartphone. The ones included in the offer are the Nokia Lumia 900, HTC One X, G3 and Galaxy Note.
Where on the website does it say it's $50?

I'm looking on the standard AT&T website, my AT&T Premier acct shopping window and in my email. Nothing has been lowered.

Not seeing the Galaxy Note or the One X or what I assume is supposed to be the Galaxy S3 lowered. All of them are the same prices they've been for quite a while.
Same for me. The SGS3 is still $199 as it has been for some time from ATT and several other places. Where is the deal?

If you call 611 and ask for the promotion they will tell you if it's available for your location. I called and it is available for Puerto Rico.

Will all Nexus 4's be sim unlocked?

I want to buy one from one of the carriers in Ireland whenever they start selling it but I don't want to get it if it's locked. I know Vodafone said their Galaxy Nexus was locked when in fact it wasn't.
All boot loaders can be unlocked, but it may be sim locked if you buy from a carrier rather than from Google.

I'm worried about it being sim locked.
So the only way to find out is to ask the carrier you buy it from. Or buy direct from Google so you know its definitely unlocked.

I can't buy it directly from Google in Ireland and I don't trust the carriers because they've already lied in the past.

The sellers on Ebay can help you get the Nexus 4 from Google for you
At the time of release, the Nexus 4 will only come in an unlocked version. Whether that changes in the future is anyone's guess, but it really looks like Google was upset with how the locked versions of the Galaxy Nexus were treated. I would bet anything they are going to refuse to let any carrier sell a locked version of their phone in the future.

I will have to find a reputable buyer but if I do then I don't mind using ebay. I got my GS3 from a company selling it on ebay in the US.

Once your phone is paid off they will unlock it if you're using EIP...if you purchased full price and have had your account over 40 days they will unlock it...don't see the need for a petition lol

I don't get it. I unlocked my SIM by paying some guy (I forgot his sellers is name) on EBay $3.50
Why is there a need for a petition?

At the moment, in the USA, sim unlocking by anyone except the carrier is technically illegal. The exemption was removed. I think they are working on taking care of that though. On that same note T-Mobile should let you sim unlock if you ask. Remember you can always ask for a supervisor.

Trade AT&T version for Tmo????

What do you guys and gals think? Should I try and sell my note 3and get a Tmo, or trade for a tmobile note. I'm not sure how long it'll take for the bootloader to be unlocked. I'm horrible with patience when it comes to technology. I need some advice and or positive criticism if one feels it's a bad idea. My only concern with buying /trading on craigslist or any other secondhand purchasing option, is getting a phone that may possibly be blacklisted. Thoughts?

If having an unlocked bootloader is that important to you then I'd say DEFINITELY get rid of that AT&T variant note 3 for a T-Mobile variant!! I have the opportunity to get an AT&T variant at anytime for pretty much free but continually refuse the offer simply because the bootloader is locked and much rather wait until I have the $700+ to put out on a T-Mobile variant!

I think I do, I've been corresponding with this guy on craigslist. My of concern again, is the imei blacklist. I don't want to trade phones, then risk having the Tmobile version end up on the gsm blacklist.

Think this will be sold through carriers? Right away?

I am on a contract-based family plan thing with Verizon. I still get subsidized phones. Think I will be able to get this as a cheap upgrade from Verizon right away?
no
If history repeats itself Tmobile will be the first to carry them.

They sure did, I've gotten every nexus right away, minus the galaxy. I had to buy that one from amazon since it was exclusive to Verizon at first. What a joke that was. I hope google learned their lesson

What does history indicate the time it takes to get to carriers? I am sure Verizon takes longer than the others.

Why dump verizon? Just buy any nexus and put your sim in and works from day 1 on verizon. at least that is what i did with nexus 6. no issues at all. would expect the same from the nexus 5x and 6p

I assume it's because Verizon didn't support the Nexus 6 for like 5 months after it was released or something.
I've usually had good experience with T-Mobile and Nexus devices.

They didn't "officially" support it but day one if you put nano SIM in nexus 6 it worked flawlessly. I did it on multiple occasions without a hitch every time
I hope T-Mobile offers the 6P on Jump on Demand.

Verizon doesn't offer contracts anymore. You will have to switch to one of the newer cheaper plans, or drop full price upfront.

That's only for new customers. Existing contract-based customers can stay on it.
**** I'm just hoping they would do a payment plan like Apple did for their iPhone... It would be nice to be able to upgrade every year to a newer nexus

It doesn't look like Google is going to be partnering with carriers at all this round, and I don't think Google will be offering payment plans on the play store. Hope I'm wrong but it wouldn't be shocking since n6 sales didn't to be all that strong last year in carrier stores.
