How has everyone's battery life been with the Vibrant? I'm having a few issues with mine, I barely used my phone today, and its down to 57%, with cell standby taking up 33% of the battery.
Search the threads.seriously there are like 5000 battery life threads

So is there a fix for it? Or is it all samsungs fault? Or will the update solve it? This sucks, my battery can loose 30 percent in a matter of 2 hours...
Your battery has and always will react to the way you use it. If you a new user and play with it all day then its going to go fast. If you use 3g, wifi, bright screen you are going to get crappy battery life.
If you use it like a normal person with 6 to 10 calls a day, light web usage, some text messages you should get a battery to last you all day.
Fire up the screen and watch videos or listen to mp3's all day well then your not.
I turned off every little thing, and i still get crappy battery. Wifi off, gps off, sync off, wallpaper off, the whole shabang.
Does your phone actually die, or does it just show a percentage you are unhappy with?
The measurement seems to be a bit off on the Vibrant.

I was disappointed woth my battery life as well. But I wiped the phone and the battery performs better in my mind. Anyone else have a similar experience?

After discharging/conditioning it a couple times, my battery is much better. 9 hours of standby overnight, it only lost 10% battery. That's pretty good IMO.
I just unplugged my phone an hour ago, watched some videos, browsed the web and my battery is down to 86%. It dropped 14% in less than an hour!

Is this your first smart/android phone? Your battery doesn't sound far off for an high end smart phone.you'll eventually learn how to extend the battery, especially after the newness wears off and your not playing with it 24/7 like most of us right now.remember this is an extremely high end phone, it takes a lot of juice to run the high end chip set.if you buy a high performance sports car do you expect to have some fun with it and get 30+mpg doing so? You've gotta understand what you've got. Soon enough there will be extended batteries available and if your willing to root, many devs are capable if tweaking the os to get the most out of the battery without hampering speed our features.

I'm having major issues too. Down to 28%(down to 25% now just typing this message) after 3 hours this morning. I just powered off and back on and I went from 50% down to 28%
Here we go again g1 all over again Seems like the only way to keep power is to uninstall everything.
I'm also seeing cell standby as a possible issue.
Frustrated... Guess it's time to reset to see if one of my apps is the issue...
I have 35 percent left after being off of the charger for 1 day and 5 hours. This is with light to moderate use, meaning some browsing, some phone calls, some market downloads, about 20 minutes of gaming, syncing, and reading e-mails. Of course my mileage varies if use the phone more. When the phone is about to die I'll snap a pic to share how long a full charge has lasted me.
Already this battery is lasting me 2-3x longer than the G1.
I tried a different battery and it's been really good to me =)

What percent do you show for "cell standby" from setting->about phone->battery use? I'm starting to think that my poor reception area is my issue.
I think the battery percentage shown in the Status is off compared to what is shown on the battery icon. That said, my battery lasts all day with normal use. If i use the web more than normal, of course the battery goes faster but still i usually get all day out of it. May have to charge it some in the evening.
Was hoping it would be better like the iPhone 4 battery seems to be. It is said that 2.2 will have a bit battery life but we'll see. Believe it when i see it.....if we ever get the update
My wife and I got Vibrants at the same time. She was getting great battery life, around 70% by the end of they day, and I was dying just after 1pm. I assumed that i had a defective phone, but decided to wipe it and try running "stock" prior to returning it for a new one.
After wiping the phone and starting over, I'm getting much better battery life, but I think that it's because I didn't use "push" email. I have a corporate Exchange email/calendar/contacts account, and before I had it set to 'push" (or something like that, my phone is syncing DoubleTwist right now, so I can't check. ) When I re-setup my email account, I told it to check only every 15 minutes.
My battery life has been much better this time around, and I think the email sync setting is 1/2 the reason, the other half being that T-Mobile coverage isn't great where I've been the last week. I'm guessing that the "push" sync meant that the phone needs to keep a data link to the server, which is fine if you have strong coverage. When it's weak, then the radio has to work overtime trying to maintain a link, which drains the battery.
I'm going to try this out today and tomorrow, and if the battery life is better than I'll keep it rather than try trading for a new one.
For one, if you're having a battery issue, buy a charger or spare battery. Get a task manager to kill your apps after a certain time and check into what services are running in the background. Just cause you're not playing with the phone doesn't mean its not running or using the battery.

Cell Standby is at 24 percent.
Maybe its some quality control issue in the batteries? Everyone is getting such varied battery performance. I'm thinking of calling T-Mobile and requesting a new battery.
I notice on reboots many apps get started automatically. I've gotten better battery life just by manually shutting them down with astro file manager app. Ultimately any time an app is running even if its not using cpu cycles it still costs power to keep it in ram. Manually shutting down will minimize this obviously.

I know this is beating a dead horse to a pulp, but I'm going to ask any way. I have never been a typical user, and I burn my phone to the ground fast. My usage fluctuates so much testing is almost impossible.
Just asking anyone who has had the patience what they have found the best results with.

I have the same setup that you do and it seems that I am blowing through my battery even faster with the lower voltage, which makes no sense. I also have noticed significantly worse battery life with DJ05. Not sure if you have noticed these things as well and was the reason for the post.
Im not sure if super clean 0.9 is based off of dj05 as I use my own fragmented rom with prices of everyone elses ROMS. But the best battery life I get is out of dj05 for sure. Running a random kernel that I think adrynalyne or jt posted in irc and I usually get a full day with moderate to heavy web browsing and 3-4 hours of music. But I also have outstanding 3g in both of the places where I live so that doesn't deplete my battery like most people

With stupidfast 1.54 and superdark dj05 I feel like battery life has improved. I can go through a whole day, minimal use, and still have 82% battery life at the end of the day or hover around 40-50% with regular use.
its 9:20pm right now and I am still at 76%. With some browsing, music, phone calls.

I have seen the same with lv kernels both here and on my N1. possibly needing more pull for higher resource usage, but I'm lacking on the technical knowledge to make sense of that, and have had too much egg nog as of now.

I somehow seem to get better life from a stock with BS apps removed, but like I said, haven't tested properly. I usually hate battery life threads but have been aggravated by 9-10 hours before death as of late. Probably just excessive usage, but I'm banking on the community to share exp. with their phones.

ROFL. If I could ever put my phone down i might see better life. I like the stupidfast, but saw some minor performance delays that led me back to voodoo. Not much of an improvement on my life tho.
I have been frustrated with battery life on the sf from day one. I called VZ the other day to have the lady tell me it's normal to charge it 3 times a day due to widgets, I then proceeded to waste my breath by telling her I don't run widgets.. Her response was well they will still drain your battery.
I don't want to un root my phone just to take it in to a store and get the battery replaced and apparently calling them won't get me any where either
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I use blue tooth + 3g for an hour drive to work and since the voodoo 5 kernels with the ul settings I have been at 85+% each day from the normal 75+%. So my battery life has improved greatly! Keep up the awesome work devs!

I get pretty decent battery life out of the DJ05 OTB Voodoo sv combo (around 7 hours with periods of heavy usage). I also use juicedefender but I've heard it cant control the CDMA radio properly (ie disable data and etc) but it appears to lengthen my battery life (could just be a placebo effect however)
I had the same problem....crappy battery life with DJ05 and I tried everything from wiping to endless kernel/rom combos. In the end I found out standby was killing me. Like sometimes an hour would pass without me touching my phone and it would drop 5%. Someone suggested dialing *22899 ( I think that was it) and it was instantly fixed. Now idle I drop maybe a percent every 3 hours.
What I have found is the governor does a great job of managing battery use of the CPU in conservative mode. My best combo is jt 1129 novoodoo kernel paired with black hole 2.1+ (I noticed no significant difference between 2.2 and 2.4 for battery life). My usage is fairly high, 3-8 hours of display on each day, running light apps (hardly any music, never games, synched email). Some of my numbers are posted.
Counter to intuition, I can't seem to get aggressive undervolt kernels to give me an improvement. I think it is because the minimum processor has to be kept a little higher to sustain the underlying, so on average more offline drain. This makes no sense though, because when I look at it in os monitor, the governor seems to be doing fine.
Speculating here is pretty dicey, because I have a hard time doing a lot of testing of something that doesn't seem to work. I use my phone a lot, and it is hard to justify having 40% less life span when I know of better combos.
In summary:
* I have NOTHING to say about voodoo kernels.
* negligible difference from leaving wifi and GPS and live wallpaper on.
* negligible difference between dj05 roms.
* running a custom rom gives a noticeable improvement betrays simply running ADW on to of touch wiz
* stock kernel is pretty darned good for battery life, competitive with best kernels.
* the cpu does great self management stock and mostly runs at 100 mhz for my use
* certain under volt kernels appear to under perform during non intensive tasks, but it is hard to be certain.
* bluetooth matters, only turn it on when driving or planning to talk; it does eat battery.
* leave brightness at auto or lower, pick a dark theme wherever possible. Display is the number one eater of battery. White sucks your life.
* there isn't a lot you can do to optimize battery life. Retraining the battery either works or it doesn't, but it isn't really necessary for most system or kernel changes and should be done infrequently.
* there are a few ways to eat battery fast.
* use a theme that shows battery in 1% increments, great for sanity!
* rule of thumb display on uses 4.5 times the power of display off for light apps. -- So theoretical max life on this phone is around 8.5 hours with display on, 42 hours with display off. (typical is about 4.5 hours of display on before I charge it) and yeah I should check my math... I have never had a practical test anything close to 8 hours. I would expect about 6.5 if I never locked it and kept it running in a dark app, with little data and sound use. I think a review I read got about 7.5 hours of playing avatar on loop (probably tmo galaxy s)- a result I found mystifying at the time. My personal best is about 5.5 display on.
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, jingle.
That was very informative.
I'm on Blackhole 2.4 and I tried one of the Stupidfast undervolted kernels (v1.5.4) for a week and although the battery useage improved a bit, it was somehow affecting my phones wireless reception, wifi and mobile signal. My phone usually flies thru webpages at home when it gets wifi yet it was crawling when I was on that kernel. My phone would randomly freeze as well. I just switched back to JT's 12/12 DJ05 kernel and eventhough battery useage is less desireable, I got my wireless reception back. I also just switched to a dark wallpaper, used to have an ocean / blue sky image as wallpaper. I think those beautiful/fancy weather/clock widgets affect battery useage on how often it updates itself. I switched out of beautiful widgets to gTabSimiClock widget, see if that makes a difference. I like its more simpler look.
What rom (stock sense look) has the best battery overall. I rooted my moms evo to get her a great battery life but it still seems to be dying really quickly. I am using 4.3.1 kernel. She's only getting around 6-10 hours of battery before she has to charge it. I had the evo before and could get a full day and a half before charging it. I can't remember my setup since I switched to the evo shift. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

That's the best you're gonna get with NORMAL usage and a REGULAR battery. All those users that say they get like a day or two are full of it. They get that long because their phones are sleeping most the time. I've used EVERY rom/kernel combo out there and the best I ever got was about 15 hours. I literally use my phone all day while at work from browsing, texting, calls, facebook ,twitter, and games. There should be a definition for moderate. I consider myself a heavy user; unplug at 7am and my phone last until about 6pm with about 20% left. Its not going get any better than that for a moderate to heavy user. From sense to aosp with the stock battery I just never achieved better results but I'm pretty happy since I get to work at 8am and get off at 5, buy 7pm its nearly dead and I just plug it up. You should invest in an extended battery imo.

I agree to a point. I mean, it all depends on usage. I can believe someone with light-moderate use can easily get a full day with the right setup. I do it now with CM/Savage, but I'm definitely not a heavy user.
I do see some people make wild claims of 2-4 days without a charge.. and I think it's possible IF you don't use your phone or you turn everything that makes it a smartphone off. Which is pointless IMO.
Nobody can really give you the perfect setup because every EVO seems to behave differently. We can only make suggestions. Make sure your mom s awareof all the things that can drain battery (push notification, updating widgets, weather updates etc etc). I would then research a good sense rom/kernel because CM7 is a definite WIP with different issues for different users, it may turn her off.
Maybe check out MikFroyo or Myns rom. I hear a lot about how good they are.

+1, its just crazy I see people throwing crazy hours out there lol. I think if your phone is sleeping 75% if the time then you shouldn't even talk about your results since that doesn't fit into the norm for usage. I don't know about not being able to get more than a day of battery life and use your phone. Using MIUI with a Savaged-Zen kernel I was able to go almost 2 days without even plugging it in once (I'm specifying this, because I've seen screenshots where people claim crazy battery life, but the graph clearly shows that the phone was plugged in and charging several times throughout that time period), and my display usage was still 44% of my battery. That was still minimal usage for me. I posted the screenshot in the MIUI thread if you care enough to check.
I do mostly agree, though. Most people posting outrageous battery life have display percentages around 5-10%, clearly never removing the phone from their pockets.
Anyway, as for the OP, the biggest missing variable is that we don't know at what percent your mom considers it necessary to charge her phone. If she plugs it in around 50% to be sure she can make it through the day, that means she could have gotten another 5-8 hours of battery life (assuming she's not draining it down to 0%). This fact could make the difference between bad battery life and a paranoid mother.

I agree with most of you people. Initially went to FreshEvo by Flipz when I rooted and battery life did not change much from when I was running stock. I have since switched to CM7 and battery life is significantly improved. Now getting 12 hours on a single charge with moderate use. I always turn 4G and wifi antenna off when not performing any data-intensive use. But I refuse to kill my 3G data connection when my phone is in my bag or desk while at work. Reality is that it IS a smart phone and killing the data to save battery life defeats the smart phone bit, no email no Facebook syncing no MMS etc. The only time I kill 3G is when I am in the mountains skiing.
My problem is that I work a 12 hour shift so 12 hours of bat life is not ideal. I have invested in an extra charger but would obviously be happy to not use this. I have heard lots of testimony that the savaged Zen kernals show some promise in improving bat life. When CM7 final drops I plan on flashing one of these kernals with the new ROM on wipe. I will stay away from the SBC version though for fear of improving battery charging but having my phone melt down or pop on the night stand next to me while I sleep... or worse in my pocket!
I will report back if I get any significant results.

what apps have you used in this 2+ day period?? games? streaming video? web-browsing? These are the most common uses and they are also the biggest battery killers. I'm sure if I had my phone in airplane mode & barely used it at all I could get better battery life than that. Please give us more details on the specific apps, etc. you ran in this period (to the best of your memory, of course )

Hmm probably only an hours worth of "apparatus" - game, good couple of hours on google reader, facebook etc. no more than an hour on the phone.
my "normal" usage really; not trying to be overly conservative, but also not constantly on. certainly nothing to suggest that I'm getting any worse battery life than I did on 2.3.x

Here's mine. A day and half. Similar battery performance with GB even though that Android OS is way too high (higher than Screen)
Yes; that Android OS' looks like a statistic and therefore has a 87.8% chance of being made up on the spot (like that one!).
This is a sample of my battery life and quite unusual for me; Mobile Standby is the highest because I spent five or so hours in an area with very poor coverage, when it could get a signal it was 2G.
Wifi is on when I know I have a hotspot I can use. AutoSync off unless I need it. Bluetooth wasn't used. Screen brightness mostly at the minimum with some time at Auto. Latitude constantly running in automatic update.
Screen on time was 2 hours, 30 minutes and that included approximately 20 minutes of Google Maps (not Navigation).
The biggest difference I've made on my device is to log out of Google+. My use is mostly checking two Gmail accounts, browsing the web, using DropBox / Documents-to-Go, texting, some photography.
Disabling Latitude's AutoUpdate stops the device from waking up with the screen off (all those little blue ticks on the use bar) and makes a big difference to battery life when I'm on the move.
How can you guys take screenshot on stock?
Hold down power and vol. down simultaneously for a second or two for a screenshot.
Also, nice battery life. I've been running about a day with ~50% left, 2 hours of screen time and somewhere around 30 - 45mins gaming. WiFi on all day and calls/texting was minimal.
Have a look https://plus.google.com/u/0/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT More insight regarding Android OS from google engineer.
I am running stock 4.0.3 ICS and battery lasts only 10-11 hours.(Data Disabled, Occasional Wifi Use, Brightness reduced to minimum.).

What's your screen on time during the ten hours?
So I've been using this phone since 5am (its almost 2pm now), making and receiving phone calls for the last 3 hours, using the internet while in calls (some people are boring to talk to), playing games, and listening to music off and on for a while, and I'm at 74%.
Now, to some people who really tweak their phones, this probably doesn't mean anything to them. However, I have had an Evo 3D, Droid Razr OG, and Galaxy Nexus, all of which I completely tweaked, and wasn't getting this battery life. I am rooted with a stock rom, but my hatred for TouchWiz forced me to use Apex Launcher. Other than that, no modifications at all, no flashed kernels, nothing.
I've only had this phone for a little over 24hrs, so I'm wondering, with all the reviews complaining about battery life, and even threads in various forums with users complaining about battery life, is this normal? Is the battery life great at the beginning then gradually gets worse? Or is it truly dependent on the use I give it? I'm in an HSPA+ zone at my house, but I have LTE when I actually go into town. Any ideas?
It seems like there is some debate on whether there are some people getting "good batteries" and some people getting "bad batteries". I know that my wife and I are both seeing what I'd call phenomenal battery life, and that's with no root, just disabling a few apps, and we're leaving everything except Bluetooth on all the time (and making sure it's not trying to find an LTE signal, since there is none here)... so clearly we got "good" batteries. I also ensure we don't have any rogue apps, or things running in the background that we don't really want there, but that's the extent of "tweaking" I've done. But, like I said, there's definitely reports of people seeing bad battery life, so not sure what the deal is.
that's not normal...I took mine off the charger at 7 a.m., used it for about 45 minutes worth of phone calls and by 11:30 I was down to under 70%.
My battery life sucks. No where near that. My phone has been unplugged for 2.5 hours and I'm down to 60. That sucks.
I only got into this phone because of the battery life. I may switch out. I'm not getting anywhere near the advertised life

Thanks for rubbing it in. I'm lucky to get 16hrs or moderate usage. I saw on amazon there's a three pack of batteries. Maybe I'll try those and get lucky
I'm not getting any where near that wither going in for a replacement battery soon, that and I just ordered a couple spares.

LTE makes a huge difference.
I am getting better battery life after uninstalled Chrome. But since I live and work within an LTE area, it's still not phenomenal.

Just in case. Standy used to take a toll on my other phones, particularly the Razr (which had horrible battery life, easily charged twice to three times a day), but not so much here.

How much screen-on time? Means nothing without at least that number to compare against.

I second this question as I'm using chrome as default.

I don't know man. I would definitely send it in for a replacement. Good battery life can't be good.

Honestly, not much. I had been on the phone for about three hours so the screen was mostly off during that time. About an hour or so of screen time.

So based on what you said, in 9 hours you used 26% of the battery. This would mean that the 2100mAh battery was sustained at an average of 61mA over the course of your usage. This seems almost impossible considering what type of use you put the phone through, Unless you phone is idling at under 20mA (mine is around 30-50) your battery stats might be inaccurate. If you continue using your battery at this rate and usage it should last you 34-35 hours with what looks like heavy use. You can use battery monitor widget from the play store to view your current usage and see what type of power your phone is actually consuming, as it is directly related to your battery life.

Your argument is completely valid which is why I posted this thread to begin with. I wiped battery stats and all that, so it might be giving me an inaccurate reading as I pretty much never let my phones die, although I read in some places that wiping battery stats makes no difference at all and is basically useless. I'll download the app and let it run and I'll post back. I did post a screenshot with the time I was on battery and the battery percentage that was left, but as mentioned before, since most of the actual usage was phone calls, I didn't have the screen on that much.
I've had mine for about two weeks and I consider my usage to be medium-high a lot of the time. I can't complain with these results. I'm completely stock, no root, no apps disabled.
As far as Chrome, I don't know what it does but I've read in other threads that it does drain battery.

I kept seeing Chrome use CPU even when I had all the tabs closed. Quick internet search revealed several threads about it draining battery so I decided to uninstall it until it gets out of beta.
However, my battery drained dead over night again. I did hear my notification go off prior to bed. I am now thinking the led is killing my battery so I turned off just now for notifications.

If people are having very bad battery issues it's due to how the phone is set up and syncing. Sure there are the super rare cases where the phone is actually broken in some way.
S3 has the best battery life stock behind the razr maxx on Vzw at least.
Any good current apps like "current widget"?
