[Q] Rooted Evo reboots when trying to delete system apps - EVO 4G General

I just recently rooted my Evo 2.2 using unrevoked 3 and now when I try and delete system apps using the Titanium backup app then phone reboots. Can anyone tell me whats going on, am I really rooted?

im prettt sure this is normal. When I delete system apps my phone basically looks like its doing a hot restart. It doesn't shut all the way down it just kinda resets the system. The reason being, in order for those apps to not show up on your phone anymore it needs to be rebooted. If it doesn't reboot there basically still on the phone so like if u uninstall flash 10.1 and without rebooting try and install a hex edited version of flash, it won't install until the phone is reset or rebooted. So I think your ok. Hope that helps a little.

Thanks I appreciate it. I will give it a try.

Factory reset after root?

Will anything happen?? I've deleted some apps aswell..
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using Tapatalk
You mean other than wipe all settings and apps? Root will still be in effect if perm-rooted, and anything you removed from/added to your /system will still be as before.
Yeah, I am perm-rooted and just asking if doing a factory reset through Privacy in options will bring back those apps? I just have a weird feeling.. I deleted google translate, facebook, and goggles through root explorer, but they still show up even without a FC or anything.. all the rest of bloatware are gone besides those.. I can use them even though they don't show up in root explorer. I did battery pull and all besides that reset.. if there's no FC, it shouldn't matter right??

Got it to work now, needed to uninstall the updates first..
Now, another question.. I did not do anything to userkeystool but I keep getting FC when trying to set any of the keys, is there a way to fix_permissions without clockwork recovery? As I'm use to running it everytime a FC came up on my other phones...

Run through Rom Manager. There's no built-in fix_permissions script on stock roms from what I remember.
So just download rom manager and I can run it without installing anything else?? I don't want to flash any kind of recovery until cm 6.1 is stable and has the 3 issues cyanogen posted fix.. and if fix permissions don't work, anything else I can do??? I know its just quick keys but I atleast want all my features to work, especially since its stock but rooted and bloatware removed.. :/

[Q] FROYO after root did not work

I was the stock ROM with my epic rooted ( so i could use wifi hotspot). I got a notice saying 2.2 was finally available, clicked install now and my phone downloaded and then restarted. Then it said install failed and gave me the option to reboot now.
thoughts on how to get froyo working?
Bj
Supposedly , it might be because the root deleted thbe bloatware. I reinstalled all te bloatware ad tried themanual install and it failed. I think you have to remove root and reset phone to stock

Its a pain...but once it updates the phone and you unplug it, its root galore!

If you used one click root, and it deleted the Asphalt Demo, give this a shot. Also take a look at richse's post. This will keep you from having to wipe off your phone completely.

Use Backup to gmail to save your phone log and sms. Use tb or my backup to save your files and data. Odin to eb13 (get .exe file from samsung, install on windows, find .tar file in folder) and do your restores. Restoring data across different firmware is sometimes eventful.

as Klownin says, it's probably the asphalt demo missing. Why they have it set to remove that app when it's known to cause issues in the future with updates is beyond me. Should be left there for the user to back it up and remove it much like all the other crap is left!
99.999% sure the missing demo is your issue, and it can be fixed
To be fair, having clockworkmod in the one-click also breaks updates. If the updates are going to be broken already, why not remove useless files?
Get the cwm flashable eb13 from this thread and flash it with clockworkmod. It will update you from di18->eb13. You don't need to reinstall asphalt. You won't lose your apps and settings.

Rooted MyTouch 4G CM7 issue.

I have recently rooted and installed CM7 RC1 on my MyTouch 4G everything seemed to be going well for the first about 30 mins i got gapps installed (manually btw) but suddenly after the phone started to install apps from the android marketplace i can no longer long press on the home screen nor can i move widgets i can still feel the haptic feedback but no response.
Sounds like a bad install, reinstall clear all user data, cache, dalvik-cache and fix permissions before booting back up.

Thanks ill try that right now and come back with any other issues. That presist after re-install.
Also wanted to state that for installing Gapps i had to do it the Manual way if that matters or if anybody is having trouble installing them.

Manual as in flashing the zip file, we all had to do that.

No i mean instead of having RomManager do it i did it manually in recovery.
Yeah, that's what I meant. I never do anything important like that in rom manager, always boot into recovery.

i had that same problem and it was a simple fix on my part. i actually had accidently hit lock desktop under the more menu on the desktop screen. u can long press and nothing happens or cant move widgets while the desktop is locked. try seeing under the desktop menu if it is locked if so unlock it and that should work. hope this helps some

Please help me fix my droid x!

I have a droid x that I went into settings on and did the factory reset. When it rebooted, a screen came up that asked for the phone number so it could be activated. Since there is no phone number, because its not active yet and I didn't know how else to get it past this screen, this is how I left it. Until today, when I took it somewhere to have it flashed to cricket. The guy did whatever it was to get outta that screen. Then he showed me that it would go to the lockscreen. When unlocked, the status bar is at the top, but the rest of the screen is black. None of the buttons do anything either. He said that it looked like it had no OS on it. I need a link to dl a stock rom from onto the memory card, using my m860. Then I need to know the button combination that will get me into the bootloader menu on the DX, THEN, seeing as I'm pretty new to the world of Android, I may need the steps that will successfully fix my DX. Thanks for reading. I greatly appreciate any help that you could offer.

I'm having the exact same problem with the DX. Im in for some answers on how to fix this problem.
Google search how to sbf for your system version
I actually figured out a way to fix this on my own. If I held down the home button, I got the option to use voice services, which I used to access "my files" where I installed titanium backup from the sd card. Then used TB to restore all apps and settings. Then viola! Now my problem is I downloaded the gummyjar 2.5 custom rom to my sd card using CW rom manager, but whenever I try to install, instead of rebooting into recovery mode, it just reboots and does nothing special. How can I get this phone to boot into recovery?

Ummm, actually, my phone IS rooted. If you had read my previous post, you should know that. You can't use Titanium Backup on an unrooted phone.

Yes, he is obviously rooted lol.
You gotta use koush's droid x bootstrapper app to get into cwm recovery. First hit bootstrap recovery. Then after it says "success" hit reboot recovery.

I already had it on mine. I backed everything up before i did anything. You can get it on your card via another phone or computer, but I don't know if it'll help bc you don't have anything backed up.

I found this and d'led it, but when I try to install it, I get a parsing error. I'm getting so frustrated with this phone, I'm almost ready to just sell it!

NOW, my dx is really acting crazy! I did a factory reset so I could set up my gmail account. Everything was working fine for a while, then the phone just randomly reboots. When it started back up, it had all the settings that were on there before I did the reset on it. Very frustrating. Thinking about just selling it and buying something better, I just don't know which phone I should think about buying!

"Selling it and buying something better" will not help you understand smartphone modification. If you would just be patient and do lots of reading, everything would go smoothly!
I use an iphone 4. I was just trying to fix this droid x. Thanks for the help, I need a linux computer though. Er.

Everything force closes.

So I been a Epic owner since OCT and had this problem a total of 3 times, im not sure what causing it at all. As soon as I turn on my phone 3 things force close in a loop, launcher pro, gingerbread keyboard, Some kind of google framework. While I can fix launcher pro I cant do anything about the others, some basic things wont even launch after the loop happens Ie the bower,Dial pad and my cam all cant launch. A format does the trick to fix it but I feel that a exterm thing to do, it a major pain to sign into everything and restore my apps. Im on SyndicateROM E05 atm. Im on the stock Kernel. So how can I fix this or prevent it from happing again?
It has happened to me a couple times, when my phone completely dies.
R u pulling your battery out before it does a complete shutdown? Data problems are usually caused by user errors. Reinstalling your rom usually fixes it. You could also choose to delete the data in the specific apps that are fc.

That sounds like that the source of a problem, So if I wanted to fix my Cam how whould I delete the data?

Hit menu, settings/applications/manage applications/all, then select the App that's giving you trouble. Then hit the clear cache and clear data buttons.

Also try 'fix permissions' in CWM.
When you say stock kernel do you mean the kernel that came with the rom?
If that's the case, then it is data corruption caused by sudden powering down of the device. Try using the journaling "on" version of the rom and that will fix it.

Syndicate's current ROM has severe file permission issues. I had this exact problem, so I fired up logcat viewer and found out that I was having a TON of 'permission denied' messages.
Download Rom Manager and do a 'Fix Permissions' or do it in CWM. I find that doing it through Rom Manager seems to be more thorough and effective as well as verbose though.
Now that you've done that, enjoy your Epic!
