What ROM offers the best battery life. - Epic 4G General

I am running Syndicate/Froyo right now and the battery life only seems slightly better than stock did.
I did calibrate the battery too.
I keep reading about these poeple with 30 hours of battery life.........what are you guys using.
I am thinking of trying out EE but this ODIN stuff looks confusing

I recommend Nebula Rom. Super fast, stable, and I usually get about 12-18 hours depending on what I do.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

That what get now

The 30+ hours are on custom 2.1 rom/kernels.....since 2.2 was a leak there is no source code for the devs to tweak to get insane battery life. But, for me, froyo has given me about 20-30% better battery life vs stock 2.1 and since custom 2.1 roms pretty much doubled my battery life so if they can do the same for froyo it will beawesome

ROM & Kernel with the best battery life?

Hi, so far the only rom I have used is CM6, and the battery life is just absolutely terrible. Maybe its just my nexus, maybe not, point is I want a new ROM.
A ROM that you guys have tried and decided to stick to.
Battery life is VERY important to me.
Try IntersectRaven's CFS kernel, best I have found for CM
For ROM try Enomther, battery life pretty good on that one

I had been using CM 6 for a while and just recently switched over to Enomether's latest TheOfficial ROM. The battery life is now DRAMATICALLY better. Just looking over the Juice Plotter graphs shows that the standby time overnight is almost flat. Say 3-4% drop every 3 hours or so. With CM6, the battery level is on a constant and steeper decline, even when not in use. I didn't take any records, but my N1 on CM6 would be down to ~45-50% overnight if I forget to plug in the charger (from full). I heard that SetCpu will help, but I don't think it worked out for me.
Enomether has its own CPU Governor and while it doesn't offer as many features as SetCPU - the ROM's default settings work well right out of the box - no tweaking is needed really for the CPU governor.
I too was having really poor battery life with CM6, losing about 50% within 8 hours after charge, without even using the phone much! I'm trying out other roms right now just for fun. I'm using Evil's Nxsense but with the kernal posted by Autinhyeu (post # 8541 in that thread). So far seems to be holding battery extremely well. About 5 hours since charge and about 90% battery.
LeoFroYo Rom is pretty good with battery
try the leofroyo rom latest beta. i get great battery in standby with the stock kernal that it comes with. 2.5 hrs per 1% battery. typically in a day making calls and using the internet, i lose about 30%-25% battery. not too bad.

2.0.1 beta 3 is the latest version that i'm using

cm sucks when it comes to battery life in my experience. i tried the 6.0 version when it came out (first stable release) and battery life was horrible.
5 hours since charge? only standby or some usage?

That was mostly standby with setcpu profile setting cpu to minimum when the screen was off. But even with those same settings on CM6 my battery would be about 70% after the same amount of time.
I just reflashed cm6 but with that other kernal so I'll see how well it works today.
MIUI has the best battery life of any ROM I've used on my N1.. idle drain of about .5% / hour when using pershoot's kernels from droidbasement.
I'm using shadow rom2.1 stripped down and I get about 16 to 18 hours usage.

I'm using CM6 and my battery life is great. I got rid of my Seidio extended battery to get an Otterbox case and the stock battery on CM6 is awesome.
My phone has been off the charger since before 1pm and now at midnight its on 46% and thats with heavy use of Angry Birds, text, emails and web browsing !
My battery life is also acceptable on cm6. Not amazing but acceptable. Then again I put mine in airplane mode overnight and get about a 4% drain, which I kind assume might be something to do with my Widgets.
Okay, so I decided to try one of these two ROMs:
Enomther
LeoFroYo
not sure which one yet, and not sure what kernel to use with the ROM I choose.
I hate switching ROMs cuz of the wiping and restoring and all that crap.

foyo? or stay on 2.1? is it worth it?

I have been dabating wether or not to flash a froyo rom and modem. I am currently using ee with phoenix kernel and loving the battery life i get out of it. I have searched the threads but not to much pertaining the the battery life of froyo as there is no kernels yet, most replies to battery life on froyo are a simple its good or i get good battery life. I Wa wondering what kind of battery life people are getting with froyo roms. battery life is the 1st on my list of importance so some with respectable performance would be nice to know so i could make my first froyo jump. Thanks in advance.
I've been on it for a few days now (DK17). I don't use any task manager, or juice defender or anything like that. I have a start-up manager (autoruns) and thats it. I unplugged my phone yesterday at 10:30am and 12 hours later I still had 40-45% remaining after some moderate use... angry birds, asphalt and web browsing mainly.
Hope that helps!
I just flashed 2.2 and used it all day at work for texting, calling, facebook and web browsing and after 9 hours at work i had just under 80% battery life left.
If you are after battery life, then stay on 2.1. I have 4 backup batteries and didn't mind going to 2.2, but I did have a considerable battery life decrease. I find myself changing batteries atleast once a day with these beta 2.2 releases. Recently I haven't noticed it as much, but I think that is due to my getting used to the routine of changing batts every 6-8 hours depending on use.
I really do enjoy the perks of 2.2 though. Flash player with Hulu is awesome, faster phone than 2.1, and the developers are doing a great job of getting some custom themes integrated right now, which makes it not only run great, but look awesome.

I've used it the second it came out, some noticeable snags you'll work around just fine. I've had it for atleast 3ish weeks no major setbacks I guess. Just used clock and flashed it. Happy with over all with flash and other new twists....phone can be hairy at times, but I've foun several androids do on 2.2. Speaker everytme you pick up a call with he feature "off". I have had the epic on the first day at day break.....

I'd stay with 2.1 for now. My phone took a serious performance hit going to 2.2... something is wrong with that kernel. Not optimized yet maybe?

I don't know about you guys, but I am using ACS's Froyo build and my Epic has never had better battery life. By a large margin.
It seems the latest froyo release has been outstanding in terms of battery life. If you're looking for battery efficiency, definitely go with a froyo rom. If you're looking for performance, go with eclair. All in all however, froyo roms are fairly snappy especially considering they are at stock speeds. Can't wait for battery life increases once froyo roms get UV'd.
EDIT: on second thought, I'd have to recommend froyo either way. The improved web browser performance + flash as well as froyo gapps alone make the jump worth it. There's really no 'lag' to speak of on froyo roms... merely, the phone just seems faster on eclair switching between apps and loading/closing them.
I'm using epic experience 2.0(froyo) and my epic has never performed better. Especially gps locks in like 2-3 seconds even without wireless location check marked. Very fast and smooth. Probably just as fast if not faster than 2.1 overclocked to 1.2. For me it seems anyway. Way worth it in my opinion.

Honest to God I'll never understand comments such as these. If battery life is the most important thing then why the hell did you buy the most power hungry phone? You bought it for performance didn't you???? Performance and battery life are polar opposites. Much like horsepower and fuel economy.
Let me save you some suspense... you'll never get more than a day out of this phone. At least not if you actually use the damn thing. If you travel, take a car charger. If you are in the office, have a charger with you. If your job requires you to be away from power then bring an external battery. The phone lasts a normal work day between charges so install 2.2 and enjoy your phone for what it is... a powerhouse!
Btw, the battery life seems pretty good in comparison to stock 2.1.
Or u can buy one of the double or more life batteries for $100 that comes with a modified battery cover to fit the extended battery, then couple it with a kickass kernel (phoenix) and have the best of both worlds

Cm4dx nightlies

Have people been getting better battery life with the nightlies? I'm not ttoo impressed with the battery life compared to apex....

Mine actually seems to be getting worse. I adjust the build.prop to make the wifi scan 1200 seconds (if im using wifi, I know I'm near it...don't need to search every 45 seconds for it) I also adjust the maxwindows events to 80 and my vm heap to 128, but I'm not sure if that affects battery life
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
From what people are saying, the battery life is improving with every nightly to the point that the battery is up to par with Stock Rom.
Of course there are others that have reported that their battery life is the same or worse.
I'm not on the latest nightly, I'm on 7, but this one offered me a significantly better battery life than without them.
Since there are users that are reporting both sides of the spectrum, the only real way your going to be able to gauge battery life is by installing them yourself.
I'm hoping that someone starts a thread soon in regards to nightly details for cmda_shadow here on XDA, but your best bet for more details is the cyanogen forums or even rootzwiki where the CM4DX community is a lot greater than what it is here.
Thanks, I installed nightly 14 yesterday and the battery life has improved compared to the first release...

also try using jrummy's android overlclock app and try running on ULV or LV.

My battery life has been pretty even with other ROMS.
It doesn't do as well over-night (likely due to the lack of the 'night time battery saver mode' that Moto built into their roms.
Thinking about hooking up Tasker or other such program to emulate that.
I am on the 19th nightly and have not noticed much difference in battery life from the previous ones. I am running DroidX OC at ULV and am at 19+ hours with 30% battery left. I have the brightness all the way down as far as I can take it, and have used the phone moderately heavy. I read on another forum that the Minimalistic Text widget was draining batteries so I uninstalled and can tell the difference a bit. Also, for those who are under-volting their phones google around and find the best settings. The stock ULV is much higher voltage than what I am running at the moment. Best of luck to all, but I LOVE CM7!!!

I would put my phone in airplane mode overnight and it would still drain the battery. My routine became:
Pull the phone off the charger at 6 am
Put it on the car charger around 10-11 am
Back off at 3-4 pm
Charge overnight
I'm excited for the rc, but will stay on liberty aosp until then. There are many things I miss already from cm(like the notification bar toggles and up to 16 most recent apps when long pressing the home key).
I'm currently running nightly 18, I wiped my battery stats this morning at 11AM and been listening to music on and off since then, It's 8:30 right now, and I'm at 60% right now.
I'm pretty pleased with the battery life right now. Maybe as the builds continue on the battery life will get better. Compared to some over the other ROMS I've used it's pretty much even now for me.
Yeah I'm on nightly 18 and I'm liking the battery life on this one.... I read on rootzwiki that someone is trying to port over the sense 3.0 lockscreen...if that happens I'll be content with cm4dx!

ROM and battery life question

Hi, I have a family member with a epic 4g, and they've complained about battery life quite a bit today. I checked the battery stats and noticed it was quite poor, especially when screen off. So I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions, he has the 2.3 update, and said it made the situation worse.
Are there roms/kernels that improve battery life enough to make rooting/flashing worthwhile.
Thanks for any help.
Sorry If I sound like an idiot, I'm only familiar with things on the Hero, and Evo3D side of XDA.
I have been running the ERA Legendary rom and have been getting a full day with up to 4 hours of display time which for me is better than it was on Froyo
The epic touch battery (1800mah) fits the original epic (1500mah), and there is also a 1950mah slim battery out now, made by mugen for around 40$ that will also fit the original epic.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Most of the custom GB ROMs should improve battery life, cause they have tweaks to remove battery-wasting bloatware.
I'm running ACS ICS v5.1 and I get a full day out of it with moderate use which is way better than I ever did on Froyo.
Set all their syncs to manual, never or an hour.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I am syncing multiple email accounts on Legendary. Nothing special. This morning when I pulled my 1500Mah battery I was at 1d 14h total on time, display was at 2h 24m. I streamed lots of music and surffed, other then that not much, but way better then I used to get.

Battery Life Rom REALLY Needed

Hello all
I have been roaming around XDA for a very long time now and I finally made an account because I simply cannot find an answer. I have a samsung vibrant and not the 4g nor can I upgrade(long story). I use my phone when I need it and i text alot. But lately my battery life hasn't been any good, I've tried reconditioning and the whole bit and nothing seems to give me my needed battery life. I am currently using ICS passion 13 RC1 and it works great, when Im not doing anything -.-; When I use it like for the internet or text a lot it drains. I got to 48% in 2 hours one time and thats with limited background processes. I know ALL about the keeping background proccesses and data using apps down so I hardly have any apps installed, which is very irritating at times, I dont even use the facebook app for that reason. I tried many different roms and it seemed Axura had done that best at one point but it was taken down or is no longer supported for whatever reason so I am now in search for a rom that can get me through the day. I text a lot and web browse occasionally. I dont have wifi so i cannot use that to save battery life while surfing so thats out. I would appreciate all the help and will try every rom if i have to lol XD
I appologize for the long message but I am so tired of hesitating to use my phone as a smart phone.
I get good battery life on the ICS Euphoria ROM. Your battery could be shot, you might try replacing it.
Any of the 2.3 or newer roms are going to get bad battery life. Fishmanmod's updating of Bionics has been very smooth and getting great battery life for me.
I find that battery life between 2.2 and ics is pretty much identical for me as long as there are no wakelocks preventing deep sleep. I'm currently on CM9 nightly w/ glitch kernel and deep idle enabled in nstools and have no battery life problems.
You could also look into getting an official 1800mah battery if you really need more juice
ICS Slim hands down the best.

Your issue is Passion. That ROM chews through battery worse than any I've ever used in the 2 years I've had my phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
Its not just your Rom, I am on the CM9 nightly and noticed ICS ate my battery by noon today. I was down to 3% from 7am. Granted I am toying with it a bit more but I was still at work so I couldnt use it non stop and I wasnt even watching videos or listening to music on it. I have updated the kernel to SubZero 34 to see if that helps.
Chances are, your battery has lost some of its ability to hold a charge. I recommend buying a new OEM battery, chances are it'll increase your battery life by a good two or three hours.
So far, I haven't noticed a significant variation in battery use in various ROMs, I've found battery life to be more determined by the kernel.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
On a side note, I destroyed my screen by stepping on it a few weeks ago. Ordered a new AMOLED screen (not the LCD knockoffs) and battery life did in crease by about 3-4 hours. Same OS, same battery.
So I think some excess drain could be caused by the screen, which might explain why some phones had such poor battery and others don't. I also no longer have the "graying/shadow" issue that plagues some of these phone.
So far ive had the best battery life with ICS passion RC2.1 and my 1800mah anker battery
Since flashing CM9 and then putting on the SubZero kernel (34) I did a full charge and decharge to test and got 12+ hours on it with my normal use. So I have to say SubZero kernel really helps out if you are on ICS.
I f you dont mind going back to a 2.2 rom I would suggest trying bionix 1.3.1 fishmanMod or Deranged9 fishmanMod alpha 1 both get awesome battery life especially when mixed with juice defender.
I was also using ICS Passion and noticed a significant degradation in available battery life. I have three batteries so I'm confident it was the From. Until then I had been using various Froyo rooms and all seemed to have better battery life than ICS. I personally felt it was more likely to be your kernel choice that would impact battery life. I just switched to the SLIM ICS from and I gave been very impressed with both the battery and the responsiveness. Same quadrant scores as Passion but it feels so much faster

another thing you can do while flashing wipe battery stats only once....then reboot to normal drain your battery till it reaches 1% charge it full widout any interruption and when it reaches to 100% unplug it and do the calibration from any software available in the market I use Battery Calibration Professionals

repeat the process for atleast 3 days in a row and you will feel the difference..hit thanks if it helps
@OP ICS is simply not battery friendly. You're going to want to use froyo if battery life is that important to you.
Or you can build a battery friendly ICS rom and let us know how it all is
The later builds of Cyanogenmod9 I have been on the stock kernel and its going all day with moderate use without battery issues.

Bionix Fishman Mod is the first custom ROM I've ever installed on my phone and it's battery life is AWESOME. I recently added an 1800 mah battery and I've had 24+ hours on one charge with moderate to heavy use. The ROM itself is smooth as glass and no glitches to speak of.

I just installed bionix-V FishmanMod Final 3. Fingers crossed. I don't mind switching back to 2.2 as long as I have better battery. However I did notice when I reinstalled ICS before going to bionix that just factory, not even logging into the market. I got 1 day and 7 hours of battery life, granted I did not do much but text occasionally and some web browsing here and there. Is it possible that the android market is constantly checking on stuff or there is some data being proccessed constantly? I do live in an area where my signal is not great for 3g like 1-2 bars.

Alright so after about a day with the rom, I noticed it's just as bad. I am still getting battery drain and yes I have a new battery in so it is not that. I unplugged it from around noon, did alot of working on it with reflashes and little bits of texting and mostly just scrolling around the O.S. im now at 44%. its been about 5 - 6 hours.
Although I have been switching the battery between 2 phones and their battery meter is very different. like a 5% difference so that may be confusing it. Will update.
