[Q] Stock (launcher2.apk) in Cyanogen Beta? - Vibrant General

Hey guys/gals,
I've included the launcher2.apk that Eugene supplied in the Android Dev section in my Cyanogen zip. However, when I click on the phone icon, it says the application isn't installed on my phone. However, clearly it IS a phone and I do have the "Phone" app installed.
My only guess is that it's looking for a "Dialer" app (like the Samsung phones usually have with TW). Is there any way to edit the launcher preferences to point it in the right direction, maybe?
Thanks for the help ahead of time!

Pull the stock phone apk, i think eugene modified it to for the Stock (touchwiz) phone apk, causing issues with the ASOP (cyanogen) phone apk.

Is there a rom that is just stock with just the Bing removed?

I'm trying to find a rom that has the Samsung Apps, doesnt have Bing, and is deodexed. Does a rom like that exist? If not, is there a guide for removing Bing completely amd deodexing?
Sent from my StupidFast Fascinate
Download a deodexed stock ROM to your PC, and use 7zip to switch some of the apks inside the zip: replace Browser.apk with one of the Bing-free versions & remove the Bing apks and replace with enhanced Google search.
Then flash the zip in Clockwork.

The easiest way would be to download Blackhole 1.4.1 from ROM Manager, and select the stock options. So far almost all of the bloatware is available under stock apps, and eventually it all will be, all the live wallpapers are there, and next week i'll be adding the stock widgets back as well. If you don't mind waiting for everything it's a pick and choose approach with no tech skills necessary.

[Q] Stock Gingerbread Launcher for CM7?

Guys,
Is it possible to get the stock Gingerbread Launcher for the CM7 Nightly to replace ADW?
I know about the download on the market, but I'm not a fan as the screen animation for it is a little slow. Basically looking for a deoxed apk I can push to the phone.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
in for an answer as well..
It's included in SalvageMod. If you download the rom you could grab the apk from system/app and push it to the phone
Just search the market for "Steven Lin"
He pulled out the latest launcher, keyboard, and live wallpaper recently and made them available for all. Even non-rooted 2.2 and 2.1 phones can use them.
Edit: didn't read the whole OP. Saw the title and jumped to it. My bad.

Droid X - Default

OK guys first off: This is my first android device, and I want it to be as fast as possible.
This being said, I just want either a DEFAULT Froyo 2.2 or default gingerbread 2.3 which means none of these stupid themes that motorola puts on it. Now here is why I'm here:
Is there a way without having to go through like 20 different steps in order to get the default android skin on my phone? I've jailbroken many a iphone but this android stuff is very new to me, so I was also wondering if there is an IRC channel I can go to or if someone would be nice enough to either guide me through or pm me through how to root my new phone?
thanks,
mike

I have been reading the stickies, I've also been reading about the roms and themes but there is some lingo in those posts as well as concerns.
For instance for the themes I've read several posts where it says to just load the themes on a rooted device, and yet others like the wiki here which says that specific themes are for specific ROMS.
Another problem with the stickies is I have no clue when someone last updated them, because some like the one for "Easy Root" or "z4root" MUST be old cause you can not find that app on the android Market place.
I just want to make sure that I'm getting the latest programs and such. I also wrote this because the one thing that me as well as a lot of other people want which is: Default Froyo. I dont want a custom theme, I want stock Froyo in all it's glory! Can anyone tell me of an easy to install ROM or easy to install theme that has this??
P.S. If there is an IRC channel for XDA could someone tell me about it? Cause I cant seem to find it at all

I have read most of that, and I get the first post, but then you seem to completely back track on the second one. I want the default Android skin from google on my droidx, so When you first said root I understood; but then you all of a sudden said that I need to deodex it as well.
This is the confusing part since you say in your post that it already included the root as well. So which should I do? root > bootstrapper > deodex? or just deodex then bootstrapper?
You have to be rooted, then flash the deodexed stock rom in recovery mode (hence the boot strapper). From there you can theme to your hearts content and even change the font if you wish.

Just because an app isn't on the market doesn't mean that it's old and no longer useful. And there are a million guides on how to do this. Just find a recent one and go for it
Alright I've done some more reading on different sites like engagdet and there seems to be a legal program called "LauncherPro" Apparently you can reskin with this program, Has anybody used this program? and if so how good / bad is it for removing blur?
My main concern is rooting my phone as well as getting rid of BLUR cause I believe that will slow it down considerably. thanks!
Unfortunately, launcherpro doesn't remove or replace blur, nor does it change things like the notification bar or lockscreen. Its a launcher app, meaning that it runs over blur, replaces the homescreens and launcher buttons. It's great for what it does but for your purposes won't work.
Honestly, I think the best route for you would be to take the time to root and flash a blurless rom like liberty or fission.

flyingpenguin is right.
Liberty is Blurless and you an install a Gingerbread theme on it straight from it's Liberty Toolbox app!
Check out my set up... I have Liberty 1.5 with the Gingerbread Blue theme and ADW Launcher EX.
What about the themes we were talking about earlier? Are those only available AFTER you flash to a ROM? Or are those just available after the deodexing? If so wouldn't that be the best and easiest way to get the stock froyo theme on my phone? or is that like launcherpro in that it just launches the theme over blur?
Also, I've seen your attachments and to be honest I don't like the look of it one bit, I just want a rom with stock froyo or even better stock Gingerbread.
Is there a rom out there with either of those stock? I should be getting my new droid x in the mail by next monday, at which time I'll probably be asking for more help, since I don't want my phone to brick the first day of use lol.
I used the z4 root on my dx. It took a couple of tries but it worked. I went with liberty 1.5 as my first custom rom and I love it. There are plenty of plain roms out there you can try. I just wanted something with a little more umph. Good luck!

Liberty comes with a froyo-ish skin. There isn't a GB ROM out for the X yet, but droid2169 (same dev who does Rubix) is working on getting GB to boot on the Dx. He's getting close on it, but there are still some bugs to be worked out. Had some issues with USB mounting last time I checked with him.
The closest you are going to get to vanilla android is either focused or fission
What is this Vanilla thing you are talking about? Is that the name of a ROM that has default froyo / gingerbread them on it?
Also, I don't know if someone already answered this, but the themse people were talking about before: Are they available right after deodexing? Or do I Nhave to install a specific rom THEN theme my phone?
Vanilla means original android experience or as close to it as the kernel allows. That's how I understand it.
Sent from my Droid X running Liberty 1.5 custom using xda premium app
oohh ok
If you want to theme the stock rom you have to deodex your phone and then load theme... if you want to theme a rom you need to load the rom (which are already deodexed) then load the theme.... themes are rom specific ie an apex rom is meant for apex and a liberty theme is meant for liberty... there's guides all over the internet for any method you choose

[ROM]Blackhole Thunderbolt 2.0 Now on Rom Manager (6/8 Release)

*WARNING* The leaked Gingerbread Radio, which is required for this rom, has been known to brick some Thunderbolts. Be sure you're aware of the risks of flashing this software by visiting this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1096104 *WARNING*
*NOTE* There is a new GB radio out now at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115714 *NOTE*
Standard disclaimer:
While no Custom Rom can ever claim to be completely safe, and the very act of rooting your phone voids your warranty, I do my best to make sure that any Rom I release is fully tested. That said, if something does go wrong I am not responsible for loss of time/money/data/sanity/limbs/life that results directly or indirectly from the use of this Rom. Please enjoy responsibly.
This requires the leaked Gingerbread radio and a Gingerbread kernel, which can be found here:
Radio: http://www.multiupload.com/HU471CMQI0 (thanks Adrynalyn) Download this and rename it to PG05IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard, then reboot your phone to the bootloader and apply it.
Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1086518 (Thanks Imoseyon) Download your choice of kernel from the SENSE GB section.
First I'd like to say thanks to Adrynalyn, ThatDudeButch and Trident for making most of the following patches easily available, and a huge thanks to JCase (TeamANDIRC) for the leak:
Features:
Wake on Volume (thanks TeamBAMF)
Netflix Support (thanks rmk)
Removed recent apps from pulldown (thanks rbox)
Power options (thanks ThatDudeButch)
AOSP Lockscreen
Deodexed, Rooted, Mostly stock framework.
Very clean Rom (149MB base vs ~300MB for most others)
This is a stock experience rom, with all the bloat (and most of the stock apps) removed. If you haven't used Blackhole before the idea is to start with an almost blank slate (except for the stuff that's too intertwined to remove, or provides basic functionality) and add only the things that you want.
What apps I left in are stock (Browser, Gmail, Calendar, Phone, etc.) plus a few "essentials" (Superuser and Rom Manager).
Updates will begin being available in Rom Manager on Wednesday following the public release of the Rom, but in the meantime if you have apps you need added please let me know and I'll make an update.zip for you that will add whatever you need. Enjoy! And be glad that unlike some developers I didn't have the urge to put "Ginger" in the Rom name, or else you'd have ended up with "BlackGinger" or "GingerHole" neither of which is very appealing...
Download:
Available via Rom Manager, so you can choose your options while downloading.
Screenies ?
Any chance of AOSP contacts/dialer, MMS, gallery, and browser? Going to give this a go when I get home tonight. Heck, might even flash it at work.
EDIT: Nevermind....just saw that almost all of this is already included. Awesome work! I'm downloading now and going to try it out.
IRS421: I'll post some up later the afternoon/evening
litso: Dialer/contacts and Browser are a work in progress. When I find/make one that works I'll add it to the options.
sorry if i missed the screen shot links...
please make them more blatant?
+1 for AOSP Contacts, please

Seeing as he links to the new radio in the OP I'm guessing it's probably ok. Still subject to the same issues people are experiencing on other ROMs though.
Thanks for the reply litso, I didn't have time to get on last night. Yes, both leaked radio's work the same with Blackhole as with any other GB leak Rom. I'm uploading some screenshots now as well, don't expect too much tho, it's a vanilla theme. For the screenshots I'm running Launcherpro.
I vote ya call it BlackGingerHole
Getting FCs from Google Music (the new one).
I chose to have it installed with the ROM, but this morning when I went to play a track, I got an FC. I rebooted, still FC. I ".bak'd" the .apk from /system/app and installed the Market version. Now I'm getting periodic FCs on the music process, and instant FC if I try to open the app.
Sync Music was added to my Google Account settings.
Ideas?

Also I've got my screenshots sorted, they're up in the OP. Like I said, nothing special about how it looks....

So far i've been unable to duplicate the issue with google music, could you please provide me with a logcat of the crash? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
I've tried flashing several boot animations from ROM Manger, but I always end up with the AOSP Android animation. Any idea's why this might happen?
Sure the battery have percentages in the status bar icon?
also, its there a way to get r rid of the quick settings on the dropdown and have the power mod toggles?

[APP] Gmail 4.0 ICS

Looks like the new ICE Gmail app will run on the A500.
Runs fine on mine with Lightspeed ROM .
To install you'll need to use a file manager such as Root Explorer.
Go to /system/app and rename gmail.apk to something else like gmail.apk1
Then copy the attached gmail.apk to that folder.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=754326&d=1319033154
That's it ! Any gmail widgets will vanish so you'll need to add new ones.
For more info on the new gmail app see this article :

Only bug I notice is the email address being cut off at the top, but not a big deal
Oh, and the widget works for me. Fully resizable too.
working!
big thanks here.

Nevermind I had to actually install the APK working great now, liking the new look any news on the new calendar apk?

Does not work here on Thor's rom! I had to revert to the "old" Gmail and I lost my widget that shows the 4-5 last mails received.
Any1 can help?
it works on Thor's ROM, as that is what I'm using it with. When putting the apk in /system/app make sure to set the permissions rw-r--r-- (you can do this with ES File Explorer or Root Explorer) and also reboot afterwards or you may get FC's.
Thanks Bloodfame, it works now...any idea as how to to get a widget similar to the one we had before?

Glad it worked out for you. As far as the widget goes, honestly I have no idea what the old widget looked like (never use it) so I have nothing to go by. There is a nice widget included though. It's fully resizable and you can choose which label to display.
@NoUseToRush - I don't know if it will work but I attach the 3.1 gmail image which I extracted from the old APK.
@Bloodflame
thanks for the response. The only widget included, at least on my system, is the one that launches the email client included in Thors' rom...not the "modified" gmail we are now using.

1) I'm using 3.2 and it's working for me.
2) You don't install the APK - it's manually replaced in /system/app
3) My ROM (and most other custom ROM's) are deodexed, therefore there is no odex file. You may need a deodexed ROM for this to work, as I believe there might be an issue trying to use the old odex file. Unless you can track down the odex for this version.
@Bloodflame - Many thanks for your answers. Never having installed a custom rom I did not realise the point about "deodexed". However I've decided today to try my luck at installing "Kekinash's near stock" rom so when that's done I'll probably try the ICS Gmail again. Your comment about deodexed comes at an appropriate time because last night I opened up the rom and found for every apk there was an accompanying odex and now I understand the difference between an odexed and deodexed rom

You're welcome. Glad I could help
It might be worthwhile to educate yourself on the Android terminology if you intend to do a lot of modding, flashing custom ROM's, and the sorts. odex/deodex, zipalign, compcache, kernels, etc. Learning what each of these do and how they can affect the performance of your ROM's might help with a happier Android experience overall. Never be afraid to ask questions and don't attempt any kind of modding without a full undestanding of what you're doing. Just my food for thought
