I have rooted my gtab and flashed tnt,
I did not spend too much time with it stock but think that I did have the same problem when it was stock. When I am browsing and click something that might be associated with a pop up, or similar the browser shuts down.
The browser is stock (unfortunately, can't change it and I have tried). So, any bugs with stock would bleed over to the TnT Lite.
If stock is affected, give CS a call - that way it's documented. Hopefully this is something they are working on for the 19th firmware update.
I had the same problem. I traced it down to a bad copy of Adobe Flash. I installed the one floating in this section and the problem went away. Do not use the one from the market.
Do you think flash can make my dolphinhd crash every time i hit search hard key?

Anyone else notice the web browser on the leaked 2.2 Rom being sluggish when there are flash ads on the page?
Ya think
Flash does take a TON of resources. Its going to be sluggish. Same as your computer if you go to a high flash site...
turn flash off it it bothers you then
How do you disable flash then?
He's got a valid point. Flash 10.1 on Damagecontrol (eclair version) was very smooth. On 2.2 , flash flickers when you stop panning around and scrolling sometimes just downright refuses to work. My guess is that this leaked version includes an outdated version of flash... I sure hope so.
When I first flashed...
the OBNR (Official but not really) 2.2, mine was hanging. Because of a couple of other quirks, I ended up reflashing and got much better results. Now, mine flies! Pretty happy over all.
use ad free or set it to on demand.
Basically, this is either because of the browser in this version isn't really built well enough for full flash, or because this is a pre-beta of Flash 10.1 on Android. To turn off Flash, go into the browser settings (menu>more>settings) and then go to Enable Plugins and set to either "On demand or off". I leave mine on On Demand. Then, I don't have to turn it on when I want to use it. You just tap on the block where your flash content should be to turn it on. Really the best of both worlds. Also makes a great flash ad block without completely turning off flash.
Thanks for the info. Also another thing to point out, I notice that the talk to text button on the keyboard was changed to a language button for English/spanish. Anyone know how to get that button back?

There's a thread around here somewhere talking about that. Only a handful of people are having that problem. The only thing I can think of is to try a factory reset.
if I were to do a factory reset would I have 2.2 as my recovery image?
I've pretty much been experiencing this issue since I got my Xoom, but can't find any information on it. Most of the time when attempting to use the back button in the browser it does nothing. If I press it multiple times it sometimes triggers, but I usually end up multiple pages back. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Try switching to Quick Controls, and see if the back button there exhibits the same behavior:
Browser | Settings | Labs | Quick Controls
Touch the edge of the screen to bring up the control wheel, then swipe to the back button. Does this also not register?

i rarely use the browser back i use the the back button on the notification bar and have no issues with it. if the web page has re-directs before it when you hit back it will just re-direct you to the same page
I actually use the notification bar back button most of the time too, but it is the same function. I tried the thumb controls with no luck. I think it may be just the site as the others I had issue with (all heavy JavaScript) seem to work fine now.

I've had this problem, too. At first I thought it was similar to the twitter issue on phones, where you have to mash back a few times to actually leave a twitter page, but it seems to happen any time I load a webpage with flash on it. I haven't really had a problem when it comes to pages without flash elements, but who knows if that's actually the problem.
Have you updated to the latest version of flash? It greatly increased the performance and decreased the strain it would cause on the CPU/browser.
I too am experiencing this bug. It doesn't do it for every site, but is getting more frequent. Did you find a fix for this? I I am running rooted 3.1
I have the same problem as well, it all seemed to start when I flashed someone CWM flashable desktop UA String fix
I've got the same thing on my Transformer, must be a bug in the browser.
I never had that problem , maybe it's because you are rooted . However , I do have this problem with gmail .
Have you all changed the browsers default (as in, by somehow changing the framework, and not the about:debug method) UA String to desktop? I have only been having this problem since I flashed someones UA String fix on my Wifi only Xoom (US). I know that changing the UA String's/browsers framework can cause some weird things to happen such as with one fix, the screen won't rotate 180° from the normal landscape view (Camera ontop and Motorola logo/name are to the top left of ur screen. Please respond if you have done a UA String change and now have the back button issue or other issues, thxs.

I have not modified the browser in any way apart from rooting.
I have that bug. Going to apps / all apps and clear cache and force close browser helps it. I have a modified UA string. But having done the mod myself, I can't see how it would mess up the back button. I'm betting bug.
It does look like a bug, but seen as there at not a huge amount of seems to make me thinks it could be fixed by wiping the browser settings. Maybe some configuration somewhere got corrupted. Is there a way, say using titanium backup, to wipe just the browser settings?
Clearing the Data and Cache for the App in settings should clear all of these, if you want to reinstall the whole browser your probably going to have to reflash your ROM and clear all data and cache.
I am having this same issue I went back to completely stock and flashed tiamat 1.4.4 and it still does it! The issue occurs in both the stock browser and Dolphin HD it is extremely annoying!
i finally found a solution if you update the host list in adfree android it causes the back button to not function properly. I reverted my host list and everything works great now! I ended up uninstalling adfree though cuz its nearly useless without host list updates
I can confirm this fix, frustrating as it is you can choose this bug or ads. I personally choosenthe bug. Maybe there will be a better fix later on, maybe something to do with the ip of the hosts file
OK, I have been messing around with this and I noticed that when the back button doesn't do anything there was an iframe ad that just refreshed the iframe.
So, I changed the ip in adfree to be a pc on my lan with an apache server. It was setup to redirect all traffic from a blank page. This stopped the iframe from refreshing. Now the back button works fine
Now, does anyone with more knowhow know of a more efficient way to sort this out? I have a wifi xoom that is always at home so it's OK for me, but for others a better solution is needed
Ive got this bug too -- can you be more specific how to edit the hosts file?
anyone have a problem when clicking links it'll open a new tab instead of switching the current window to the new page? I don't know what the deal is.
Running 3.1 with 0209 dock version.
Sites that consistently do it on:
Facebook, dailytech, fudzilla, sometimes amazon and newegg.
edit: Well actually, it's intermittent. Dailytech works properly now. This problem happens quite frequently though.
I haven't completely narrowed it down, but it seems to happen faster when you use quick commands like ctrl t and ctrl w to open and close tabs. It also happened without the keyboard once.
I have the same problem, Pretty annoying . Not sure how to fix it . Anyone ?
In web browser -
Menu -> Settings -> Advanced - Check "Open in background"
Sometimes this appears to get forgotten, unchecking and re-checking seems to resolve.

that really doesn't do anything. hope Asus is aware.
I'm seeing this as well. It's pretty annoying, and I just got the dock this week. Closing out all the tabs so that the browser quits and then restarting the browser seems to clear it up temporarily.
I agree that this seems to happen faster when you use the keyboard shortcuts. Does anyone think this might have happened due to the last dock firmware update? I didn't immediately upgrade to the latest firmware version and I don't recall this happening when I first started playing with the dock.
try toggling the mode from tablet to desktop.

Thanks! It doesn't permanently keep it from happening (the problem still comes back randomly), but it's an easier temporary fix than closing all the tabs. Makes me wonder why it works, though...
same problem here I flashed so many rom trying to get this resolved, but it's just a matter of time before the problem come back. I believe this only happen with 3.1 though. I've never have any problem with 3.0 (the problem is there even in official 3.1).
Anyone know how to report to asus ? I'm going back to 3.0 for the moment
I've been having the exact same problem, glad it's not just me. It's quite frustrating that there are at least 3 major issues with the browser (this, the keyboard lag and the terrible JavaScript performce) but getting support for these issues from Asus or Google seems to be next to impossible. Definitely feels like I bought a beta product at this point.
Anyway, I found that I can temporarily fix it by force closing the browser in the applications menu in device settings. Not really ideal though.
Greg
I have a problem with my browsers where they aren't retaining my usernameasswords.
Ever since moving to GB roms this seems to have started.
Had this with docs rom originally on a froyo, moved to simply honey gb build(3.3, 3.5, 3.6}, now running jvp stock deodexed. (also had the problem on jvh/jvo)
Xda app holds the details fine (posting from this now) but any browser (stock, miren, opera) I can ever credentials, it accepts them then when the page refreshes, I'm logged out again.
(examples of websites are, something awful forums, www.whirlpool.net.au, xda)
Its frustrating to say the least.
Surely im not the only person with this problem?
you're not alone. i'm experiencing this problem too since upgrading to 2.3.3. I'm using GoaTrip 2.0 update nr 1. hope somebody tells us the fix. i'm sure it's just something simple (like a setting somewhere)
So I'm still having problems with this.
I've now just updated to CM7 from stock deodexed rom jvp and the problem persists, tapatalk and xda app keep me details fine, but when trying to login to the sites through any browser, it just dumps me back to the main screen as if nothing has happened.
Possibly something about the phone not handling cookies right? So frustrating.
Sometimes I'll be in the browser on a website and the browser will randomly shut down and take me to my homepage. No message pops up saying something went wrong though. I just got my tablet yesterday and already this has happened 7-10 times. Does this happen to other people or am I the only one? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
I have the A501, but my browser has done the same thing a few times. It only seemed to happen when i had a really bad connection though. Don't know if that had any factor in it. Usually its fine though
same here
I think its coding on the website.this happened far less with the new dolphin browser but I like stock browser better.
Giggles are for blonde chics back off there mine
No guarantee that this will work for you, but you could give it a shot.
It very well could be coding on the page as was suggested earlier. Especially if it always happens on a particular site.
For your applications that are force closing or are acting buggy, try this procedure to see if it may correct the behaviors:
Go to Settings >> Applications >> Manage applications >> All tab, select the application that is giving you problems, and press the Force stop button if the application is still running and then to wipe the data press the Clear data and Clear cache buttons as well.
NOTE: THIS WILL RESET THE APPLICATION AND ERASE ANY APPLICATION STORED DATA UNLESS ITS SAVED TO MEMORY.
If this does not correct the issues, then try uninstalling and then reinstall the application.

Yup
It happens to me from time to time, usually when I'm looking around on failblog for some reason. I just go to my history so I can easily go back to the last page I was looking at.
Stock 3.1, latest update.
Its an old and known problem. Unfortunatly 3.1 didn't solve it. Switching off Java does but thats not a satisfieing solution.
Browser keeps shutting down
I'm having the same issue right now and can't seem to use the browser for more than 2 mins its really getting on my nerve. How can I view video when the JavaScript is turned off? For once, why can't this device not have faults regarding basic functions?

It seems that a good question here would also be, "What browsers are you all using? And have they all shown the same behavior?"
I have the default Chrome, then I also have Firefox and Dolphin. I know there are others as well.
my tab had this issue as well. i notice that when adblocker is running it doesnt happen near as often. i suspect pop up ads are responsible. your experience with failblog makes me more sure.
Hmmm..... I don't ever have that problem with the Dolphin HD browser.
This happens a least once a day for me. But it happens randomly, on any page. Even if i just try and open the browser to the home page it'll occasionally close on its own.
