I'm one of the chosen few who cannot connect to my company's Exchange Server with FROYO because of the well known "your server requires security features your phone doesn't provide" error. So when today I played a bit through the available widgets and found a button "Device Administrator Settings" under "Shortcuts / Settings" I gave it a try and, clicking it, was positively surprised seeing an email-option: "Enables server-specified security policies" which I had NEVER seen before in the standard settings menu (maybe my fault). Anyway, activating it gave me a big WARNING screen (earthquakes, hair loss... which I boldly ignored, but then again - no way the Exchange account would work after that...
So just out of curiosity - does someone know what this button is meant to do? And why it is "hidden" that way?
found it on 2.2 , cool dude, that is the one and only option in there though, good find!

Yes, but has anyone found out what this opton does? If I have an email account with my DSL service, will pressing this option on the Streak, 'sync' the email account at the 'live client' side? so when i delete emails from the live client, it will auto remove the emails from my streak?

I've googled like crazy and searched these forums and cannot find a solution!
I added an email account to my Outlook that I now wish to delete or even just edit settings. For some reason, it doesn't show up under Menu>Tools>Options.
Its just not there!! It does show up in the account picker...but when I click on Menu>Delete NOTHING happens.
Its just...there!
I've seen a thread or 2 where people complain about this, but have yet to find a solution!
I have a theory that the Palm Messaging App that I'm using for SMS has messed something up within outlook. Thats just a guess though. I'm not sure.
I'm also using Sprint Mobile Email app. It has also added an outlook account that doesn't show up and is unable to be deleted or edited (however I wish to keep this one).
I'm comfortable going in and deleting registry settings or files to remove the extra account, I just can't figure out where to do so! This is driving me crazy. Help
and thanks in advance. This site is the best!
if you created the account using ActiveSync, open ActiveSync and select Menu->Options and then clear the checkmark for "E-mail". this should remove the email (account) from your phone. you know if all else fails, you can perform a hard-reset which will clear all email accounts, programs, contacts, etc., that you added to the phone. Settings->System Tab->Clear Storage is the same as a hard reset. Be sure to backup your contacts, pictures, ringtones, etc, to your laptop before doing the hard-reset.
Yeah I appreciate those tips. I was hoping to not have to do a hard reset but its starting to look that way. Now some of my Sprint Client fetched emails are getting into the phantom box for no reason what-so-ever.
I do have an exchange connection going for work, but that has nothing to do with the confused mailboxes. At least I don't think so. Hell, who knows. The phone seems to have slowed down since I installed exchange. Is that normal?
Looks like a hard reset may be in for tonight's excitement.
open outlook > menu > tools > options
highlite and hold the account you want to delete and select delete when the little popup opens.
it's not going to show up you just have to tap+hold the account for the delete to popup.. does it popup or you're saying it's not? sorta confused.
edit ok i re-read your post.. guess it's there just isn't deleting for you.. well the other option is to go in the registry and delete the email account key. but it shouldn't be a big deal because who deletes their email accounts regularly?
on my sprint touch outlook has an asterick next to it and the delete option comes up but you can't select it. I dont have email selected in activesnyc but I do have calendar, contacts, tasks and notes selected. Perhaps that's the reason outlook can't be deleted from the email accounts list?

How to change server credentials MS Mobile 6
You've probably sorted yourself out by now but if you haven't here's what you need to do.
Go to ActiveSync -> menu -> options, select Microsoft Exchange and then press delete. This will remove the ActiveSync relationship. Then just create a new one.

I have been trying to find answers for "messed up outgoing display name" when setting up email accounts & the (silent mail) or "stealth" outlook.
Bad entry in "exchange mail (outlook) windows mobile 6.5 and still can't find any visible means of deleting, changing or updating the "silent" outlook email settingsl 3 days non stop research and web searching...now, I find this site. Thank you!
I received my phone 4 days ago (and only received the HAND SET), after fighting carrier for 7 months regarding the non functioning phone with multiple defects that stared one week after full price purchase. No instructions, no charger, no connector cords for PC to HH Device, NOTHING! not to mention the sim card also missing.
Many individuals; tech support, advanced tech support, supervisors with carrier; support forums, product manufacturer, endless web searches, etc., etc., I was amazed and very frustrated with being treated like a complete idiot-(i will just leave it at the idiot part) and no solutions either until now. When researching the document "Deploying windows Mobile 6.5 phones with Microsoft exchange server 2010.,
It was so nice to see exactly what I was relating to and in my language (lol) YES here on this site - finally!
You all are so friendly & helpful! Like I mentioned I have only had my HTC Touch Pro2 for 4 days now, and being unable to locate the account management settings, I am very lost. I have no instructions either - have been going off web sites. I don't even know where to start to find solution here with your instructions, so if anyone can give a little more direction - it would be great
i need to know where to go to change server credentials MS Mobile 6 - (HOW do I get there? is ACTIVESYNC on phone or on my computer under the windows mobile device section, do I have my computer cord phone and pc hooked up together....
sorry, I was in schook when we hand wrote everything and a plunker typewriter was what we used for a manditory "typeing" class.... A little in the Flinstone Age - but really adapting - this phone was my stepping out, and I was and still am very excited to play with this new toy -
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You've probably sorted yourself out by now but if you haven't here's what you need to do.
I have only used a form of active sync on my Palm Pilot for nursing, b) but, that was hooked up and set up entirely tech department and they just told me what to do (enter contacts, updates like that into computer, then hook up the cords, and press the sync button" = that's it
Now, taking a deep breath because a solution is within reach I am ging to attempt the task but i do need step[step directions involving active sync and it has to be from the get go please....anyone.....
Hopefully others that get in this same slump will stumble upon this site, and help avoid such frustrations.
Thank you all for your knowledge base, and contributions, I am confident that the name floating in computer space hidden in the "Stealth" Outlook is beginning to appear.
Now onto the active sync, so I can get back to my state board review that took back burner for 3 days (oops)-
Thanks, worked for me too.

I finally got my HD2 today. I'm trying to set up a POP3 account. Two issues seem to exist:
1. There is no longer a setting that prevents mail from being removed from the server once it's downloaded. Is that now automatic, or is the setting somewhere else?
2. I'm setting up the outgoing mail server using a different account and password. (It's a long story, but necessary). While the settings dialog allows this, when I go back in and look at the settings, the setting is now checked to use the same account and password as in incoming server. Is it no longer possible to do this?
Thanks in advance.
-Bob-
Never mind. Figured both items out by using the standard Windows setup. HTC Sense seems to be missing some settings.
I was wondering the same
I was actually asking the same...
How do you get to the "standard Windows setup"?
In an other thread I read that there should be an "INBOX->Menu->Options" menu entry but this is missing on my HD2 or at least I can't find it... (German ROM but no Carrier Branding).
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Thinman
you should use the Windows Application and not the HTC Sense Application. Click the windows hardware button and look for E-Mail among all the applictaion listed, you will have access to a lot more settings.
From the HTC sense mail screen, click
Inbox (left soft key) then menu - tools(scroll down to find) - options
to call up the windows options screens rather than the HTC ones. The differences are slight, but important.
Thanks a lot!
scroll down to find

That was the keyword... I must admit I haven't thought of that. I assumed that the menu is just that long. From now on I always try to scroll first!

I've had several problems with my new HD2.
The most recent and most worrying was it not coming out of sleep, pressing or holding the power button did not wake the device, nor did any other button or screen presses for that matter. I had to remove the battery in the end. It had happened overnight when I woke up this morning it wasn't working and then 20 minutes later when I got to work the same problem, charge is at about 71%
I read on another forum that there was a firmware fix for this on these forums but couldn't find anything...
The others are configuration problems im sure, I'm with T-Mobile (UK) and just selected TMobile during the setup wizard, all the basic stuff works like phone/sms/email (google and exchange) and browsing, but I've noticed twitter won't log in with any account...nor does MSN messenger, I've read somewhere that it's because some services expect the connection called "Internet" but with T-Mobile settings it gets renamed to "The Internet"...Still I changed the name of the service and it caused more problems than it fixed...is there a way to change what network that messenger and twitter use?
Other than these problems it's a really nice device, very pleased with it! Oh and great forums by the way, very helpful, the tips thread is fantastic.
*edit*
I should also add that I noticed sub folders in outlook don't sync, for example the inbox syncs fine with exchange 2003 but all my subfolders inside the inbox are all empty.
For the power problem see This thread . The problem may well be with the 'notification queue' and installing some software to manage this has helped a lot of people with the same problem
Your connection problems may be related to T-Mobile's connection settings, though I'm not certain as I don't use T-Mobile. It used to be that by default, T-Mobile add a Proxy Server entry in their connection settings. This is OK for standard email and surfing, but may not allow access to other services. The old trick was to simply remove the tick from the 'Proxy Server' tab in Settings/Connections/Connections (accessed from the Sense Settings tab, then Menu/Show all Settings.
For the Outlook sub folders, you need to go into your Messaging program, then hit 'Menu' then scroll the window up to see a 'Tools' submenu. From here you can access the 'Manage Folders' list where Inbox should have a '+' to allow it to expand.

I used to have the exact same problem with "waking up" the device, until I removed some program links from the StartUp folder.
It seems to me that for some weird reason that folder is processed each time the device comes back from suspend mode and some of the apps in there just didn't play right with my HD2.
Or maybe the apps started in there just don't like the suspend mode in general.
So after I had reduced the number of apps started upon boot-up to an absolute minimum, I no longer have any issues with waking my HD2 up.
Also, you should implement the GPRS reg hack to reduce battery consumption.
I found that auto-disabling the GPRS data connection after 5 minutes inactivity made all the difference on my HD2 for preserving battery power.
Finally, disable that brain damaged "two step" unlock procedure of the HTC stock ROM either via a Registry Hack or by flashing Tom's or Leo's ROM from XDA (requires SPBL to be installed first).
For most of these tweaks you can also try the "BsB Tweaks" program (also to be found on XDA), w/o the need to flash or hack anything.
Sorry, but I don't use T-Mobile, so I can't help you there.
Thank you both, I've fixed my outlook now and looking through the other fixes. Much appreciated!

WM is still troubled with the notification queue problem? I used to have problems with that on my first WM phone, when my alarms wouldn't go off in the morning. I gave up in the end, and so never used my device as an alarm clock. And having come from Psions that had (and still do) the best alarm clock and calendar feature, I found it really disappointing.
I'll have to have a look at that thread. Thanks.

Agreed- it is a lot better than it used to be (till now!) but I resolutely refuse to use the built in Alarms due to their unreliability, and have been using Chronos for the last 2 years (much better than Spb Time, if less graphically pleasing!)
I dont have alarms set only for ones generated at work through calendar items, so I disabled calendar item sync
Yup...unticking proxy server lets MSN connect, again big thanks for this!
Anyone know the implications of this, will it stop other services from working or end up charging me more or something (on an unlimited data tarrif from tmob)

It shouldn't make any difference- T-Mobile just use it to limit the connectivity to their own servers, but there's no penalty for not using the 'feature'.

Yes it is a bit flaky around here! That is why I now have a Vodafone Access Gateway femtocell at home, so I now have 5 bars of 3G signal!
I am annoyed of this, when I open an email...any email... it always says "get the rest of this message (_ _ k)"...I would like it to download the whole email right away (or at least I would like to know how to set it up to do so).... I did this :
Start -> E-mail -> Menu -> Options -> Tap an account to change settings - > Download size settings -> Message download limit -> Entire message
and it still seems to not download the entire message...
Are you using pop or imap email access? At least with IMAP it downloads the headers first, then the content, so you have to give it a minute or so if you've got a lot of email coming in.
Another setting to check is how many days worth of email to get - maybe it doesn't download "too old" emails as standard.
I dont have that problem. But, i will say that the email feature on windows phones (not specifically the HD2) needs alot of work. I mean,to be honest, its not REALLY finger friendly now is it?
"tap to scroll" "download images" i mean, come on.......

which e-mail provider are you using?
Some e-mail (like google for instance) will have settings that will allow you to access your e-mail via the outlook exchange server settings on your phone. This will allow your provider to push entire e-mails as they arrive.
Would be nice to have a more user friendly email app, wouldn't it ?

This is another gripe I had.... I was wondering is there any other email alternatives that actually work nicely with our phone...
see I compare things to the iPhone here n there because that was my last phone I had (and I had it since it first came out mind you so that is about 3 years)...so at least the iPhone had a decent email app (from what I could see)..it was user friendly and did not require alot of maneuvers to load/reload/check emails...
Now I am using Yahoo and Gmail, for those of you who asked....now it seems as though it is working correctly now (in regards to loading the whole email that is)....but as I just mentioned in the previous paragraph -I would like to see if there are any other good email apps for the HD2, does not have to be anything fancy even as long as it works nice n smooth and is user friendly... so instead of having to make a new thread or something maybe we could figure that one out here ? IDK, please advise me...
I have noticed one problem today with idea of how Windows login works.
If there is someone form MS here pass that over as I am sure this might be bothering others.
I was in public with my Vivo Tab today. I was sitting on a bench, at doctors waiting for an appointment.
Right next to me strangers looking at my device over my shoulder.
As I was just browsing web, reading articles that is not an issue but.... before I did that I had to login to the system.
There on the login screen was "loud and clear" my name and surname this is how I did setup the system.
If I would thought than about situation of that kind I would probably make other arrangements.
At the moment thought about resetting Windows and starting all from scratch is not very appealing .
I would love to see an update that would allow me to choose what is shown on the login screen - nick or just picture (that is enough isn't it???).
If I see my picture/avatar I know it is me - I do not need to have my name and surname shown .
So... this is the issue I have with thie login idea... do you?
I doubt many people find it that big a deal - your name isn't usually considered terribly sensitive material in a public setting - but it's easy to change the display name on the Welcome screen, and always has been. I'm away from my Win8 devices at the moment, but on Win7 it just requires hitting Start -> click on user icon -> "Change your account name". You can also (on Win7 or Win8) search Start for "User Accounts" (will probably be under Settings) and then select "Change your account name".

Thanks I will check that. Perhaps I did overreact a bit
I can get OCD about laying out my icons etc and happen to have a rather long surname. For me I would think its nicer to have just my first name displayed. A few pixels are cut off the last digit of my surname.
Yeah that happened to me but I noticed it right away after I finished set up, so I immediately reset it and did it again

Just checked, I don't think it is possible to change login name without complete reset of device
