[Q] just lost super user? - Vibrant General

WTF....been rooted for MONTHS and now lost SU permission.
Running jk6 stock (Sombionix)
Lost all SU permissions...TiBU will not fix itself...every SU app has grenaded on me. I keep getting a FC on SU....stoopid ninja icon in the drawer. Never had this issue before even with ODIN'ing back in the 2.1 days. ONCLF doesn't work (macfag) and 2.2 jk6 is running great minus the SU permissions...
HALP.

Cannot even re-install packages...get an E: (can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
fauk me running....wth happened, did not flash anything since the 2.2 jk6 update.

Bump
Using a chihuahua to post up in this B

I had this problem yesterday, i went to menu, manage applications, and cleared cache for super user

I did a combination of things and somehow resolved it. I couldn't recall what specific step that did it.
1. Took battery,sd card, and sim out for 3 mins.
2. Put battery,sd card, and sim back and turn on phone and disable USB Debugging
3. uninstall and reinstall USB Driver on PC (don't connect usb cable yet).
4. On phone, re-enable USB Debugging
5. connect usb cable to phone and let it reinstall the usb driver
6. After everything is installed correctly, make sure you can mount both int and ext sdcards.
7. Re-install superuser.apk (you may not need to do this)
8. I used ABD to get in recovery mode and did NOT get the " E:... " error.
Hope it helps.

SU/Root gone on ADP1 running JFv1.50 ADP1.5? [Solved?]

Hey all. I have searched but I was unable to find a thread pertaining this issue.
Phone: Android Dev Phone 1
Running: JFv1.50 ADP1.5
What has happened is that today SU/Root seemingly stopped working. I discovered it when I bought Kosh's Screenshot app and started it up. The app requires SU permission, and therefore the "SU Request" window popped up. But it's blank. A blank black screen which eventually will run low on memory and then force close.
I then tried to open the Superuser Permission app, same result. Opened Task Manager for Root Users, same deal. Opened the Terminal Emulator and typed "su", which actually worked! I still had SU privs there. Closed the TE and decided to reboot the phone, and now I don't have SU privs in TE anymore. Everything that's non root related is still working fine.
Does anyone have an idea what's happening here? I suspect that maybe the Market Enabler app or the AdsFree apps could have something to do with it, because they're the only root related apps I have installed the last few weeks, before this problem occurred.
I'm sure a wipe would fix this glitch, but I'd prefer not to do that unless it's necessary. Plus, it would be nice to know what's causing this, so I can avoid it in the future.
Same thing has happened to me. It worked fine for Term Emu, task manager, and ad block. But I tried using an OC app and when super user popped up blank. All my previous apps still work but any new root apps I install do not work. Not sure why though and the only way I found to fix it is to wipe. Do you have your apps on the sd card? I'm using the old method haven't gotten around to trying the new method. Not sure if that is the issue or not, the old version of super user never gave me any issues.
I did a wipe, and it sorted the problem out, for some root apps. Now I'm back to the same crap again though, the SU Request window pops up but it's all black and eventually it force closes.
According JF's blog he included "a much better Superuser app, courtesy of zinx" in the 1.50 release. It's obviously what's causeing our problems, I never had an issue with the old one, but I don't know what to do about it. I don't want to go back to 1.1 or Haykuro's builds. I guess I'm stuck with a semi-crippled JFv1.50 ADP1.5 until someone with more brains than me finds and posts a proper solution.
Yeah Ive been noticing the same thing. Also the superuser list GUI is horrible. I liked how in the last one you can choose what programs you'd want to remove su access from.

Exactly. I'm not sure what he means by "a much better Superuser app", because for a layman like myself it seems a lot worse than the old one
This is just going from bad to worse. Now I discovered I have no positioning via wifi/3G anymore. I have to start the GPS and go outside and wait for a signal to get a lock on my position, which sucks. What the hell is going on? If not even a wipe is enough I guess I'm looking at a complete reinstall, but if all this has happened once it can/will happen again. I would much prefer to find the cause of all this crap.
Ok, so I found the cause for the Assisted GPS issue at least. My Micro SD card needed repairs. I put it in a SD card adapter and plugged it in to my laptop and let Vista repair the file system (apparently there were close to 100 errors on the damn thing) and now it seems to be working again.
Edit: This might actually have fixed my issues with the superuser permissions too. Knock on wood. I'll have to get back to you on this.
I'm having this Exact issue
I am having this exact same issue on dudes build. I have tried everything from scanning to formatting the SD i have flashed back and forth from Jf1.42 to jf1.50 and then to all different dude builds and i have no clue what to do next.
I do a wipe every time i flash and the only way to get any su access is to have jf1.42 or haykuro build. Anyone Else having an issue? I have been working on this for 3 days straight now...
For me it was an SD card issue. If you have a spare card, try that instead, or if you can borrow a card from a friend, just to see if it resolves your problems.
I realize that you have repaired/formatted your SD card, but it could be something wrong with it that screws things up. Worth a try, right?
Absolutely I'm looking for one right now thanks for the quick response. I'll let you know if it works. I have a 2gb sandisk in there now, so i still have my 1gb and my girlfriends 1gb too. Her phone has no su problems at all.
I also ran across the same problem reported here, only a wipe solved it. I believe it had something to do with the Market Enabler (non-signed) app, which was the only one I installed that first showed me the dreadful empty SU screen...
Fixed It
My Problem has been fixed by formatting the sd card with the phone itself.
I copied off all my info, unmounted it from the computer, unmounted it from the phone, this gave the option to format the sd card.
Once that was done i copied all my data back and when i installed programs from my sd i have not had a single su problem since.
I was having all these same problems in JF's 1.5 build, and none of the wiping/formatting SD/trying a different SD card combinations did the trick. Then, I went into JF's blog post where he released 1.5, and someone posted there that enabling USB debugging would fix the issue. I did this, and what do you know, now my superuser permissions app works again in everything, even in unsigned apps! Maybe this is why a wipe fixed it for some people, and not for others?

Not to Jesus resurrect this thread, but I had the same issue and same fix as n17ikh here on the ION build. Enabled USB debugging and su/superuser permissions started working Too bad I have to disable USB debugging in order for my car stereo to mount my G1 as a USB device, but at least I have a solution
Hope this helps anyone else who may stumble upon this.

A few issues...

Story...
Quick question guys. So I rooted with the one touch root, then grabbed bootstrap recovery, clockwork, made a nandroid backup and upgraded to 2.2 with rom manager.
I then noticed my wireless tethering wasn't working(using wireless tether app), which did work rooted at 2.1. Even normal wireless didn't work. I then wiped all data and did a reset. Wireless now works, however wireless tether app doesn't. I have seen an error in the log while enabling access control in the wireless tether app. I tried reboot, uninstall reinstall with no luck.
I also noticed not having full market, no biggie I have see the build.prop files that will address this.
In an attempt to resolve the wireless tethering problem I was going to make a backup and start from scratch, however now I can't make a backup because I get an error when mounting to my sd card.
"E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1)
(Device or resource busy)
Can't mount /sdcard"
What do you think I should do? SBF and start over or....?
Did you do the step to maintain root in 2.2? You are supposed to move "/system/bin/su" to "/system/xbin/su" (mv /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su) which will maintain root throughout the transition. If you didn't, then I'm guessing that you need to reroot in order to get it back.
I did this process as soon as it came out and I don't think that step was in there yet or I missed it. So in short I did not move the file unless the rom manager did it for me. I can still get into superuser and it still prompts me for permission with certain apps. Superuser also shows 3 instances of wireless tether under allowed apps. Can you just move the file now or do I need to attempt to re-root at 2.2?
I figured out what was happening with the backups. I needed to upgrade to bootstrapper 1.0.0.3 from 1.0.0.1. No more mounting problems, however wireless tethering still doesn't work and I am running leaked 2.2 and do have root. Still getting an error in the log showing "Enabling access control....failed" Any ideas?

Just flashed Darky's 10.2 RE on my phone and I encountered a few problems...

Okay so I've went ahead and flashed Darky's 10.2 Resurrection edition on my sgs i9000m. It's amazingly fast! Got a Quad score of 1975 and no more weird colours, and I can get into cwm recovery . However there are a few problems that I would really like to fix!
1- I can't get into the darky's launcher. It would constantly force close, so I went ahead and deleted it. Is there some way I can get it back and actually be able to go on it?
2- Speaking of force close, A LOT of my apps won't open and end up being force closed. What's up with that exactly?
3- Speaking again of apps, A LOT of my apps got uninstalled, most of which were very useful like Allshare and Swype. I'd like to get them back. I noticed in my files that most of them are sitting in the "uninstalled" folder in Darky, but everytime i try and reinstall them, they say "Application not installed." Please help
4- I cannot connect my phone to my computer, the computer will not recognize it for some reason and neither will kies (i need to sync my contacts).
For now these are the major problems I've encountered. Will someone please be kind enough to help me fix at least some of them?
Many thanks!

you should flash Darky's 10.2 Extreme Edition over your 10.2 RE. Brings you back what you are missing right now.

question: Exactly how do I do that now that my computer won't recognize my phone (drivers) ?
you can try to reinstall kies to your pc which automatically installs the necessary drivers.

1. Reflash usually helps, or you can flash Extreme Edition as pointed out by another user. If you are not really familiar with the Resurrection edition, I suggest you stick to the standard Extreme Editions which has everything.
2. Reflash usually solves this
3. Those apps are purposely taken out of the Resurrection Edition because Ficeto wants the ROM to be as light as possible, and he only keeps apps that he uses on them. You can, however, get them all back using Nitrality from the market.
4. KIES won't connect because you don't have MTP installed. Get this from the Nitrality app from the Market.
If you wanna flash EE over RE, you can simply download EE and transfer to your phone via usb mass storage mode, (first time run it''ll automatically install the drivers) or via KIES Air. After that, flash via CWM
Hope that helps!
I had the same #4 problem: MTP Application missing.
After using Nitrality, I check Mtp Application, select "apply changes".
It asks me to confirm installing MTP App
I push "yes continue"
It says performing operations...
After 3 seconds it says "Batch operation completed"
But nothing changes, since Kies doesn't find the phone and if I restart Nitrality, I find that MTP App is not checked as if it has been installed...
I found even the MTPApplication.apk but when I try to install it, it says "app not installed"
(my system comes from a darky 9.4 >> wipe all with a dark 10.2 resurrection)

You are not supposed to install it but move it to /system/app folder.
sorry for the question, but where is that folder?
I don't have a system folder and don't have a App folder in /sdcard
where should I put the MTPApplication.apk?
Having the same problem.
I also moved MTP Application to sdcard/system/app and still doesn't work ..
Step 1: Download root explorer
Step 2: Open root explorer
Step 3: Copy the mtp apk
Step 4: Navigate to /system/app (not /sdcard/system/app, not /sdcard/app)
Step 5: Paste the mtp app
Step 6: profit
Worst case scenario:
Step 1: Get a $20 micro sd. Put it in your Pc's card reader and copy Darky's Extreme Edition file there
Step 2: Put the card in your phone
Step 3: using any file manager copy the Darky EE zip onto the root dir of you *internal sdcard*
Step 4: Flash
Step 5: profit
Easy enough you just need to read the instructions a bit more.
I did that. Still not working.
On the phone I see MTP application on screen and notification "Connected"
On Samsung Kies it's not connected. It keeps showing "Connecting..." for few minutes and after that I get error message "Cannot start service on the device. Please disconnect then reconnect the device."
I did that, but .. still not working.
Try putting the phone in USB debug mode. That will give you access to normal USB mass storage mode (meaning you don't need MTP, your computer will see the phone like a normal USB stick), and then you can copy over Darky EE Edition and flash it.
If nothing else works, start over from a stable stock GB ROM or Froyo ROM.
EDIT: oh and why don't you try syncing your contacts to gmail? Makes getting your phone up and running a breeze and they're always backed up to Google's Servers. You'd need a DOUBLE failure to ever lose your contacts (Google failing AND your phone failing at the same time, which is very very unprobable). If you got em on Kies, just export them to csv and then import them to gmail. Every time I flash, I just enter my google account and wham, 2 minutes later all my mail and contacts are already on the phone.

Unable to Re-Root Droid 2 after Gingerbread OTA

Here's my problem,
I had the Droid 2 with stock ROM rooted and all was well. My phone installed the Gingerbread ROM (4.5.601) when Verizon pushed it out a few days ago. Thankfully, this did not totally jack up my phone. However, I no longer have root access.
I have tried three different 1 click root methods for the Gingerbread ROM but none of them worked. I tried un-rooting and re-rooting with one clicks and that's not working. I tried manually removing the Superuser app and rooting, no joy.
The one clicks are connecting with the phone but the phone does not seem to want to allow access to change files.
Before anyone asks, YES I have the drivers installed and the connection with the PC is good. I have attempted to run the 1 click roots in "charge only" AND "PC Mode". Debugging is on and I am set to allow non-market applications.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Tracker
Update: in trying to manually remove old superuser file with adb shell, I just can't seem to get the # prompt to execute the commands even after running Pete Souza's exploits.
suggestions?
Hope somebody comes up with an answer - same thing happened to me.
did you use the d3 root method? thats the only one that works 100% on gingerbread.
Yes. I used the "Pete's Motorola Root Tools.exe" program on Win7:
psouza4.com/droid3/#root
I also followed the "Droid X Notes" section at the bottom even though I have the D2 and I'm not able to get the "adb shell" ending with #.
SOS!!
Thank you for such a clear, concise post! I am in the same boat with no luck. I used the one click root for D3 which says it will work for a number of Android phones, including the D2 Global, but is NOT working with my D2. I have run the application two times and both times it went through the entire process, rebooted my phone three times and said success but...no success... I am sooo bummed as the only way I get internet at home is via Wireless Tether which I can no longer use because I do not have Root access!
Desperate in Cool (the name of the town I live in), I need help!!
Thanks in advance,
Jeni
Yeah, still no joy here. I've retried everything that I mentioned in the OP and still can't get the # so I can execute an un-root and/or re-root as described on Pete's website.
I've tried it on both a Win XP and a Win 7 machine.
Anyone have any suggestions? It appears the D2 Gingerbread firmware doesn't want to allow permissions to modify certain portions that were allowed before.
Success
I didn't so much fix the problem as hit it with a bat until it shattered, then rebuilt it.
My fix was to SFB the phone back to Froyo with factory defaults, activate it with Verizon (at this point I have no software added or accounts set up on it so obviously no root), apply the OTA update to GB, perform the 1-click Root which worked this time, then setup my google accounts and install Titanium Backup which I had previously used, and restored all my data from it.
At this point I'm getting some force-close errors which I'm sure are related to the Titanium restore but I was able to ADB Shell in and SU so I know I have rooted it properly and at the very least I will do another clean wipe and restore individual applications one at a time so I know which aren't working right and go from there.
Good luck everyone!

I kinda figured that this would work. I'm trying to avoid a full nuke of the phone, but so far it appears that this is the only work around.
Anyone else got a plan?
Only option I was going to provide was SBF to 2.3.2 with RSDlite and re-flash the OTA, then run the Droid3 exploit.
I have a D2G and I had the exact same problem. I did an OTA upgrade without un-rooting (I was earlier rooted using z4root). I had a long discussion with Pete Souza, the guy who created 1-Click root. And he agreed to help me out. He did a remote to my computer and rooted my D2G. I am going to try to reproduce all the steps here.
Situation: Was rooted using z4root. Had Superuser and su binary both on my phone but root was not recognized by titanium Backup, SetCPU, etc.
Resolution:
Run Psouza's 1-cick root http://www.psouza4.com/droid3 (ensure u have motorola drivers)
First try the Root, and if that does not work only then continue with the following steps. I got an error after step 3 which said the phone cannot be rooted (or something like that). The first two steps were a success.
Now that the root is not working, run the Temp ADB Root from the same app. In my case even that failed - but Pete said that ignore the failure message.
Now, I need to delete the su and busybox which are leftovers from the earlier root.
Open a command prompt in the support_files folder where adb is located.
Get into the shell by typing: "adb shell"
type "/system/xbin/su"
This will pop-up a prompt on your phone to allow Superuser access - just click Okay.
The $ sign will change to #
Now type "busybox mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system"
now type "cd /system/bin" This is where your su and busybox are.
Type "rm su"
Type "rm busybox"
After this just exit out of everything and run the 1-click root again. It should work now.

IMO this instruction should be stickied.
This worked perfectly on my wife's D2G. Rooted Gingerbread = a good start to the day!
Awesome! Thanks!
Just wanted to say I think i love you...this worked for me after two tries on my Droid 2.
First time I was able to remove su and busybox...then when I applied the one click root again, it said there were a bunch of errors but still succeeded. After the reboot I didn't get superuser access yet so I went through deleting su and busybox again (but busybox wasn't found)
The second time i decided to restart my phone before running the script again and when attempting to verify if su was still installed by going into adb shell...it said my phone was already rooted.
Thanks!!
Awesome!
Thanks! This worked for me as well! (after additional reboot)
Good Info but one problem for me
Since I did the OTA Gingerbread, I cannot get into debugging mode. I have uninstalled the Moto drivers & reinstalled using my administrator profile on Windows 7. I have also sbf my phone. Wipe cache. Factory reset. Activate service (NOT download or sync w/ google). OTA Gingerbread. This is on a regualr D2. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get into debugging mode. Otherwise I can't do anything.
Thank you!
I am so glad I found this post and the directions posted by drumster. I had previously used z4root and had not unrooted before allowing the Gingerbread upgrade. Pete's application fixed my Droid 2 on the first attempt; no other steps were needed.
Thanks again,
Andrew
awesome
psouzas 1 click worked for me. Droid 2. previously had rooted with deroot method until it updated by itself to gingerbread which broke root.
enabled usb debugging
in pc mode, clicked on souza's link and followed instructions
i have win 7 64 bit computer
It works
I just got it to work. I was on rooted froyo. Sbf'd back to stock froyo. Downloaded and installed OTA G bread. Then I had to run the D3 one click root method twice but the 2nd time it worked fine.

Need help ASAP!!! cant intsall gapps and it seem there is no solution!!!

I just installed slim 6.0.1. after trying to install the gapps I got error 70(Insufficient storage space available in System partition) and the instalation was canceled.
I rebooted the phone and saw there were installed only some basic apps with no use. So I tried to download from the AOSP browser a smaller gapp package, but
every time i hit the download button the browser crashed. Same thing happend with other downloads too.
SO I dont have any apps in my phone and I cant download any.
I need desperately some help ASAP!!!!
PS: cant sent files throu usb cause pc doesnt detect phone (propably brocken pins in phone's usb port)
edit: i was able to push gapps from pc via adb
Does the phone work properly with a stock rom? It happens with other custom ROMs?
You can send files over FTP using your Wi-Fi connection. As for your problem, try formatting system, then flash the ROM again. Take care that the updating script might throw you an Error Code - 7, because it failed to detect the info of the device. Google how to remove that part from the script in the zip and transfer the modified zip over Wi-Fi. Also, you might want to flash the nano package and get all other apps you need from the Play Store.
