[Q] Galaxy Tab OTA Updates - Galaxy Tab General

I turned my AT&T Tab on at 2PM EST (US) today and was greeted by the Updating screen. It's been sittling there for the last hour and a half.
My Tab has no data plan and it was not connected to WiFi, so it is getting and OTA update pushed by AT&T even with no data plan (the SIM card that came with the Tab is in the slot).
No idea what's coming although is seems to be pretty large. Anyone have any ideas?
I will report back once it is finished.
MadSci

Odd to say the least. Seems you're the first to report an OTA update with the tab. Normally Kies is required.

My Sprint Tab had an OTA update recently after I purchased it....

How long did it take? It's been 2.5 hours now and as there is no progress indicator (which I'm assured is normal for Android), I can't help but wonder it it's stuck.
It warns NOT to turn off the power, but at some point I will have to. Any suggestions as to the best way to avoid it being bricked?
Thanks!
MadSci

The JM6 leaked ROM installed a "Software Update" background service on my euro Galaxy Tab. I promptly removed it (brute force deletion ) but I imagine that this is the service responsible for regularly checking for firmware updates based on the device's product code etc. So yeah, OTA updates are probably supported, although not reported by users yet (unlike Kies updates which have been witnessed by many users).

Looks like a false alarm. I shut it off, re-booted and it seems the same as before. Kinda scary though!

OTA updates on AT&T

Hello this is my first post. Just wanted to say hi.
Well I have an unlocked G1 running on AT&T and I was wondering how are we suppose to get updates if they are OTA and I assume you would need t-mobile for that.
Is there a way to manually do it? Is there someway to download it directly to the phone from a source?
Thanks alot.
I sure wish I had that t-mobile SIM that I had. I assume it wont work if it is canceled right?
I have a feeling people who have them unlocked are going to get screwed and have security holes up the wazzoo...
i have talked to tmobile multiple times about this. no one seems to know the answer. I have a t-mobile sim card in my phone right now just to see if it will update. the card is the one that came with the phone, show it shows the t-mobile service, it just will not let me call or anything. I am hoping that it will update this way then I can put my att card back in. I will probably leave the t-mobile in every night while I sleep and the phone charges just to see if it will actually work. I will keep you guys posted as to if it works or not.
I have yet to get my OTA update and I am on T-mobile. I was going to unlock my phone, and I have a question. Does your G1 work ok with data on AT&T market and all? plz let me know I have someone that is tempted to buy one at full retail and just take mine after I have it unlocked.
Thanks
it would seem to me that legally, they have to provide the patch at some point due to the GPL... it also must be provided free of charge..
when they offer it is a different story, but legally, anyone who has it, who share it (if they knew where it was cached) with no legal issues
Only Google doesn't use the GPL.
But yes, that's true. The source for everything that's free-and-open (we know there are parts of the OS that aren't) should be made available. Whether or not (and/or when) they offer the update as a binary is anybody's guess, like most things with the G1/Android.
maybe the evil FSF will get involved!?

The info is also posted on this forum/site under the development area... sorry I don't have a link handy.

did we ever find out if OTA updates get pushed to G1's on other carriers automatically?
The will be pushed to all G1's on a data connection. I repeat ALL G1's on a DATA connection.
I am on AT&T and just got the OTA update yesterday morning. I found this instruction on the internet (could have been sticky from this site) on how to get OTA update the original way.
I download Anycut from app store, create a shortcut for Device info, scroll all the way down and click on download button. Your G1 will call home and it'll appears that nothing else is happening on the screen.
I did this around 9pm Sunday morning, leave my wifi on, phone plugged in for charging and when I woke up my G1 greeted me with new firmware update screen (RC30).
Few issues that I found:
Home and call button are not responding (nothing happen when pressed) and I had to do a system restore to fix it. G1 security screen stop working even after turning security on and off - system restore fixed this. The Built in IM stop working when trying to connect via AT&T Edge, it complain that IM program can't read my phone number off SIM card - WIFI + IM client works without any problems.

Noting that those are are all symptoms of a Setup Wizard call that ended badly somehow.
The guy who discovered this first:
http://inportb.com/2008/11/28/disabling-the-screen-lock-on-android/
I discovered it accidentally, by playing with Any Cut a little bit too much. Heh.
Ah... I see my experience with Setup Wizard funkiness is not an isolated case. At any rate, I did not have to perform a factory reset, as re-running Setup Wizard resolved the issue.

[Q] updated to 4.3, now Sprint ID wont leave me alone

Hello all, my family all just got new phones. Both my mom and dad got the S4. I activated my dad's phone with no problems and everything is running great. It did not get the OTA update so it is still on 4.2.2. My mom's phone on the other hand has some issues. Right after activating and running initial stuff, I got the OTA update message, and decided to update that phone. it downloaded, rebooted, installed, and rebooted again. It seemed everything went fine.
Upon further setting up her phone, I noticed that there would be a notification about Sprint ID downloading a "Default ID" pack, and it trying to install it. But it would fail every time. Any changes to the internet connection (going from 3g to wifi or vice versa) would trigger Sprint ID to start up over again and download and fail to install. This kind of gets annoying after a while. Since my mom's phone is not rooted, I can not freeze or uninstall the Sprint ID apk. Force closing it does not help, because it starts up again when changing internet. I spent a good 30 minutes with the Sprint Chat online with no help. Even factory resetting does not fix the problem. Sprint could not help, and forwarded me to a Samsung chat person online. After 20 minutes with that person, they said that they went through all troubleshooting steps and could not help and asked me to call their hotline (which is open on Monday).
The odd thing is, according to Sprint's website, Sprint ID isn't supported on the S4, and my dad's S4 with 4.2.2 does not have it. could the 4.3 update have accidentally added Sprint ID? Is there any way to remove Sprint ID without root? Or root with 4.3, and somehow flash back to stock 4.2.2 without messing with knox? I can try going to the Sprint store tomorrow and see if they can do anything, but I would rather try alternatives first.
on the phone that's already taken the 4.3 update you cannot go back to stock 4.2.
You can however root. Then install titanium and freeze the 'sprint installer' and sprint id applications.
Just wait 'till tomorrow do not take any risks because it's your mother's phone and she wont need root. Service will flash a rom to it hope it will fix it. Have a good day

Yes, take it to Sprint and have them fix it. You did nothing wrong so it shouldn't be upu problem.

So I went to the Sprint store today, to see if I can get my mom's phone fixed. According to the technician, there is nothing they can do until Sprint pushes an update to fix this problem. The technician tried fixing a previous customers phone with the same problem, and came to this conclusion. He even said switching out the phone wont help because eventually the 4.3 update will push to that one and might glitch like this phone. I guess I will hold back on updating my dad's phone when he gets his OTA.
I have temporarily fixed the notification by turning off notifications for Sprint ID, so it wont keep on popping up, but I do not know if it will try to download in the background or not.
I heard Sprint was going to push an update to fix the Knox notification showing up when switching to wifi on the S4 and Note 3, and hope they might attach a fix to this in the update.

I just received a replacement phone that is having the same issue, and it's on 4.2.2 - has not received ota update notice. In addition, the CF Root Procedure which seems to work for most everyone is not rooting my phone.

[Q] just installed latest update - now stuck on "samsung" boot screen for an hour.

i don't recall the last update taking so long to install. it was on 90% battery but have plugged in just in case.
it's a UK S7E unrooted or modified in anyway. if it doesnt reboot before i go to bed i'll leave till morning where i'll have to force it i guess.
anyone else experienced same?
in UK with Three if it makes a diff (phone from samsung store though).
Hi
I use a SE7e bought sim free from the Samsung Experience Store.
I'm Payg on o2.
Updates to sim free phones are untouched from the network.
Which update did you download ?
its only been asking to install for the last week or so (never install straight away just in case) but never got any more info than that (meaning i never wrote anything down).
i think it just listed bug fixes and nothing huge. was about 200mb maybe?

forced reboot and had a message saying to visit a samsung service centre.
great
tried again and now installed. weird.

Bricked Nokia 6 after February update, anyone else?

Hi,
I updated my Nokia 6 early yesterday morning, February 21st. The update was 1,7GB in total, don't know what it consisted of. The update came to my phone through standard automated update check, I got a notification to connect to WiFi, I did, the update downloaded and installed.
Apparently, it was the Android Pie update, though I didn't look that closely.
So, 100% stock ROM, no mods, fully official update method. No tricks. Connected to wall, 100% battery.
After the update the phone booted and asked to reboot to install operator updates. I'm not quite sure the exact wording of the message pop-up, but that's what it asked as far as I can remember. I agreed to reboot, the phone shut down, and never came back to life again.
It won't respond to any key presses. It's completely bricked.
I'm going to get it fixed in a shop, where it'll go to have its display changed anyway. I'm writing this here to ask, has anyone else had troubles with the update? It was rolled out in Finland apparently February 21st or 20th, or then I haven't reacted to the notification before. I'm quite unhappy with the state of the matters, since it seems to be the official update that bricked my phone.
So, anyone had any troubles with Android Pie update?
Mine bricked 2 days ago after the same Android pie update, 1.7 GB. I have tried flashing to no avail. Currently looking for ways to restore a bricked Nokia 6 TA-1021.

According to the service personnel, a small wonder happened when they plugged in my TA-1021 - the device started right up. It's quite extraordinary claim, since my phone was connected to my charger when it shut down, and it was showing 100% battery.
I have no reason for this, only speculation. The only explanation I can come up with outside of some divine intervention is, that the phone did not shut down after all. Instead, it was stuck on some loop with screen off and buttons inoperative. When it finally ran out of battery, it responded right away when it received more power.
I did not try and flash my phone myself. Nor did they flash it in the shop. It wasn't necessary, the phone is now fully functional.
Maybe try to plug it in briefly and see what happens. If nothing, then just unplug it again and try another time tomorrow. Btw. HMD Global's chat support was very responsive, so I highly recommend contacting them if you suspect that your case was caused by the updater itself.
Mine didn't get bricked, but it started having issues with Google accounts. After the update, all apps which use my Google account to login had login errors & I couldn't add Google accounts onto the device. I manually synced the account, removed the account & tried to add it again (shows a "sorry something went wrong" message everytime I try to add an account), wiped the cache, even factory reset it, but nothing helped. I finally had to spend some time learning how to downgrade it & was able to add accounts on the device again. But after I updated my device with Android 9 (V6.12) again, the issue came back.
my all google apps arent working on TA-1000
mine is completely bricked. wont turn on at all. TA-1033.
Is there anyway to fix this?

Won't detect OTA update (ATT)

My S10+ will not detect the day one OTA update. I check every day and it says software up to date even thought its still on G975USQU1ASAT. AT&T says to contact Samsung and Samsung says to contact AT&T. Anyone else had this problem or have any idea how to fix it? I've already tried factory reset, clearing cache and data on the updater apps with no luck.
Do you need to be connected to WiFi or have a certain battery level? Try charging to 100% and connecting to WiFi then manually search for the update.
What I had to do is go into the date and time and shut off auto time update and manually set it 2 days a head then mine found the update.

Two options:
1) Borrow someone else's sim or ask At&t for another
2) Download the S10+ OTA and update via SD
Did you put the sim that came with it in? I used my old sim and had the same problem till I changed the sim card.
Sorry for the late response and thanks for the suggestions. Just returned from vacation so I will try the suggestions. Also yes I used the sim they sent me. I suspect something got messed up in the sim provisioning as I came in as a new line then ported my number in. I will try putting my wife's sim in and report back. Thanks again!
Mine wouldn't detect an update. I'm only using mine on wifi as this one is just a spare phone for now.
To get the update though I needed to put in my att dim and put the date a week in the future. That's the only way I was able to actually get it to check the server.
I'm having the same exact problem. I purchased my S10+ directly from Samsung, but it was the AT&T model. I've been stuck on the ASAT baseband with the Feb 1 Security patch since day 1. I've been on the phone/chat with AT&T for the last 3 days. Each time they've promised that they have pushed the update to my phone, and every time I check, I get the "Software is up to date" message. I just tried setting the date to next week, restarted, and checked for the update..still nothing.
The same thing happened to me with my Note 8, but I was able to get around it using ODIN. I've told AT&T that I'm not paying my bill until this is resolved (like that's gonna do anything). Anyway, I'm at the breaking point on this, and not getting anywhere fast.
