Massive battery drain in my sgs - Galaxy S I9000 General

My phone isnt going well,i'm on JPO and since i make OCLF the battery drains completly in about 5 or 6 hours of moderate use...i disabled the OCLF and the problem didnt go away...the phone shows me that 99% of battery use is the screen...and when i connect the wall charger and use the mobile at same time, it dindnt get any charge...and sometimes it gets hotter...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

I have the same problem.. battery drains 4% per 2 minutes of playing angrybirds or surfing the web.. also on jpo with OCLF =/
With android 2.1 and taskkiller the battery held much longer!

But mate its very wear, because when i installed froyo at a first time, my battery last about 2 days without problem, but when i started to install aps, the phone become very laggy...and i dont know i feel the phone different.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

I had the same problem with oclf. Uninstall it and unroot your phone then get z4 root and z4 mod! Its by the same developers I think, it works slightly differently and doesnt batter your battery. You wont get the huge quadrant scores but it will be above the average galaxy s.

Also when you say 5-6 hours of moderate use- how long has the screen been on in that time?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

One way to increase ur battery performance significantly is by deactivating data network mode. Long press power button in SGS froyo and deactivate Data transfer mode. Whenever you need to use internet do the reverse. With this technique i am getting battery for more than 2 days. Hope this helps

thank you all guys,i disabled the lagfix,i did the trick of charging several times with the mobile on and of and my battery time improved sightly, but with use the mobile is like a whale sucking water,i start game boy advance emulator with full charge and 1 hour later the phone is for example 60%,and surfing it altmost the same....i updated today the gallery app with sgstools, and lets see if that cures this sickness, because my battery doesnt last half a day.i know i make a hard use of it,but in the past it last a lot more,n

i get 1 hour out of every 20% with heavy use (music, browsing, wifi or 3g gaming) and screen on. i think that is the normal amount a battery should last you. speedmod kernel k9 and voodoo enabled btw.

Same here: JPO, OCLF v. 2 + z4root => high battery drain, 1,5% per four on idle with no apps running. I will undo the lagfix in the evening and see what happens.

Try this ..

Battery life stinks...

Hey guys what is up. I'm just wandering.. my Droid is brand new. Got it 2 days ago. Today I had to recharge my battery twice. I did use it a lot... so that may be it.. and when I didn't use it the battery life stayed the same for as long as I didn't touch the phone. Is my battery good? I got the app that tells me the temperature and everything. The hottest was 112F. It says my battery health is "good health". Will my phone hold a charge for a longer period of time after it has been charged then drained... and repeated. Does it just need to be broken in? Thanks for reading this whole essay I wrote you guys.. Haha. Well thank you so much again... and if you can please get back to me as soon as possible that would be great!

You should really search a little bit before you post. There are COUNTLESS threads on battery life.
Your best bet, until HTC fixes it, is to charge until the phone says you're at 100%, then turn it off and charge until the LED turns green. Charging and discharging really won't affect anything - their is no "memory" with their batteries.
Okay, thanks for the quick response. I appreciate it. Sorry. I should've read.. I was just a bit anxious. My apologies.

You could always trying running one of Hydra's Kernels as well. I don't know if anyone has gained better battery life because of doing so... I use his kernels for the features.

Check Settings > About phone > Battery and make sure up time and awake time aren't the same.
If they are the same, it means something is keeping your phone awake when the screen goes off, which drains battery.
I just got my Droid Incredible a few days ago too, and I knew coming into it that the battery life has issues from a lot of users, but man, it really sucks!
I have it fully charged at 8am, and by 3:30 (with very moderate use), it's already at 20%. I've disabled everything I can (WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, live wallpaper, installed ATK and keep my tasks at none, etc), and still the same.
I really love the phone (it's amazing other than battery), but the battery life is such a big deal for me that I am really thinking about returning it and waiting for the Samsung Fascinate to come (hopefully sooner than later). Thankfully I have until Aug 30 to call Verizon and return the phone... i sure hope the Fascinate gets a definite release date by then.
I'm going to try the full charge + phone off + charge again to see if that improves things, but other than that, does anyone recommend the Seidio 1750mAh battery or the HTC Touch Pro2 OEM (1500 mAh) battery? Does it make that much of a difference?
I read the findings on batteryboss.org, and it appears that the TP2 battery was better but the Seidio battery they tested was a used one, so it wasn't a fair comparison.
Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Loose atk....and read. I get a full 18 plus hours and I don't bump charge. Lots of info out there

I purchased a 2150 mah battery from verizon and i can say I wont be having battery issues.. that is one option, but you wont find a case that fits your phone, that is the only downfall
I was just reading reports about the new Facebook app...looks like they are working on that fix if you use that and it is causing a battery drain
http://www.androidcentral.com/facebook-confirms-battery-drain-latest-android-update
Uninstall the 1.3.0 facebook app RIGHT AWAY if you downloaded it. That destroyed my battery life yesterday and I have never had battery problems with my DInc.
You can just use the regular HTC Facebook app until an update is released for the facebook for android.
Try it without the new facebook for a day and see if it changes.
If you don't have the facebook app then just make sure bluetooth, gps, wifi are off when you aren't using them. I recommend trying bump charging but I've never personally and my phone lasts about 26-28 hours+ with mild to heavy usage depending on the day.
-Flawless
Thanks for the replies..I don't use Facebook so that wouldn't be my problem.
I think ATK is good.. I mean I don't have it on auto so I sometimes just kill all tasks and I have noticed any decrease from the already poor battery performance.

Ionno what it is but I'm running froyo 2.2 n I Thot this issue would be addressed but still nothing.. I'm hoping the VZW push will address it... I get decent battery life when I charge fully then turn off then plug back in til light turns green but its a pain in the ass to do dat.. I believe my awake time is like 3-4 hrs with an uptime of like 18-19 hrs

I have a Sedio 1750, which I bump charge every morning, and UltimateJuice set to turn on APN every 5 min for 30 sec or until data transfer is done. WiFi is used whenever possible and otherwise turned off.
I easily make it through the day and have battery to spare with moderate to heavy use.
All the battery life horror stories make me wonder what everyone is doing differently. Haha

Phone battery drains quickly

Recently I've noticed my phone dropping percentages within minutes, I've been on my phone for about 30 min just moderately surfing the web and it has dropped almost 30 percent. I tried juice defender, although it seemed it
worked somewhat it was really messing with my data connection. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

As of right now I'm just rooted with the update.zip, I did lag fix but unlag fixed shortly after. Didn't have this problem when I was stock battery actually listed a good amount time.
There are bugs with the displayed battery % not being accurate. Especially if you power down the phone while it's charging.
My Vibrant just eats battery by the minute... I am honestly not sure what is going on. IT's 2.30pm and I barely used the phone and it's down to 53% now from 9am.
What can I do to fix this? I have rooted and installed lag fix from this link

Yea compared to my last two smartphones, the vibrant battery life is no worse. It's definitely better than the n900. But no smart phone's battery life has compared to my blackberry's I used to use.

Fix permissions via recovery! Drain your battery till power down and recharge it fully while off if possible.

I had this issue. Turns out my battery had swollen due to over heating. Excessive use while on the charger. In the end, it would take 7 hours to charge 80%. Hence why it was on the charger.
Doesn't sound like you have the same issue. But of you start experiencing charging issue coupled with rapid draining get the barry replaced. No issues anymore.

How to extend battery life on ANY rom

I am not responsible if you brick you're phone or blow it up/cause world war three. so don't tell me it's my fault because this should all be fine, just don't wanna get legals against me you know how it is
People seem to think that 1-5MA is fantastic but it's all about how long you spend on the phone, i mean if you have it on for 2 hours messing with it. listening to music, angry birds then internet, you are going to have bad battery life no matter what you do, smartphones aren't built for a hell of a long battery life.
First things first!
Battery stats, charge using current widget to 100% untill it shows 0MA usage keeping it plugged in goto root explorer or w.e you use that can Mount and enable write access to DATA/SYSTEM then delete the file BATTERYSTATS.bin then restart phone unplug and you are done.
Display the display is best set at Auto.
Vibration off, for max battery life.
as for the CPU just set the notifcations off and screen off to the lowest setting unless you have it doing ridiculous things it should be fine, if not set it one about that the lowest should be 245MHZ this will save power!
im more of a minimalistic kinda guy so i prefer to have stock apps and the apps i really need not like these iphone types who just want to show you how many apps they have on their phones.. so how many apps you use is upto you, but if you have quite a few download and install a cache cleaner, doesn't matter which one. all do the same (i think)
Other things to prolong battery life:
Turn the screen off when you're not using it!
Turn auto rotate off
Turn onto silent (not recommended if you have a life outside of XDA can cause problems with girlfriends and such)
Turn off things when not using them, this goes for all of the options, WIFI, GPS, Mobile data.
that should prolong battery life.
Hope i helped
what is your definition of pretty long battery life ? At the end of the day we all have to charge the phone.

I get about 6-8 hours on a work day from my phone when stock, 8-12 hours with current rom
1% every 1-2 minutes, on CM 6.1.3 ROM is that normal?
even after flashed new recomended radio
the Battery Drain fix makes my wifi can't find AP and the USB won't be detected, rebooted and still the same.
tried CM 7, stuck at boot loop, can't even enter the phone

I notice that actually reception plays a big big part of battery life, which means this can vary from location to location, country to country, network to network.
If you are in an area (or even a particular room in your house) that constantly require power to hold onto weaker network signal, your battery will be drained a lot of faster obviously.
And to be honest, there isn't much we can do about it except using a known good radio.

Battery problems

Hi, my s2 is using villainrom 1.4 as an attempt to improve battery life. At the moment i am on 50% battery after 4 hours and a bit with screen on time at 2 hours. Even with moderate usage i hav never gotten over 12 hours...
Could someone give me tips how to get my battery to at least a day, desperate for help. I have auto sync off and use a mixture of wiki and 3g.
I will post the screenshots of battery later as i dont have enough posts yet.
Thanks

as what BSAKSOUK said, what apps do you have installed?
Try to uninstall all apps you have installed and see if you get some improvements, then install one, test again.
I found that NetCounter kicked in on my SGII and the phone never went to sleep, just screen off but it was awake and drained the battery in 12h
//Mike
I will try and post the sreenshots soon. It seems that awake and screen on is largely related. I may have to factory reset and see how the battery fairs then.
I did a *#1234# and saw my csc is unknown? Do u think there is somethin wrong with my modem? It seem when wifi is on it always drains the battery alot faster.
Ia there any app to monitor how much drain apps cause? Thanks guys

since you say you had the screen on for 2 hours, your battery seems correct. other people on this forum are claiming they get 4 hours of screen on time from a full charge. so if you had 2 hours and 50%, that seems right in line with proper results.

Problems with Epic

I'm on ec05 un rooted.
I've noticed a problem that started a few months ago. Before I get into that...some things to know:
I have 5 batteries. 1 stock and 4 aftermarket.
One issue I have is battery drain. If I'm not on wifi then I get between 2-4 hours. With wifi it is 5-7.
Whenever I change the battery it is a toss up as to whether all of my apps will load. I have rebooted 5 times today within a 30 min period. All the apps still haven't loaded and battery life dropped 20%. I have tried using the keys to reboot and also taking the battery out.
The phone will also get hot when not on wifi.
Any suggestions on how to fix? I have tried factory reset and it doesn't fix it.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
If you're already willing to factory reset, you might as well Odin back fresh and see if it helps. Unfortunately root is needed to calibrate the battery in traditional ways.
If you have 5 batteries and have to swap out every 5 hours then your probably on your phone all day.
Are you just pulling the battery or letting it power down? I know stock has journaling on which protects you from if the battery gets pulled but after o long it ill catch up and do it mine has but I get why better battery life then that. My wifi on I will get about 15 hour with little bit of use but I will get about 6 to 7. When running pandora at work the whole time and maybe mess around with it for 30 mins. Also make sure you back out of everything
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I would bet you've got some app installed that is constantly running in the background, constantly connecting and downloading data and killing the battery. Since WiFi uses less power than 3G you get better battery life on Wifi, but if you are constantly syncing and downloading you are going to kill the battery.
If you go into settings>accounts and sync and look at what's syncing it may give you a start. You could also go int settings>about phone>battery use and see what's using the most power.
The only thing that is set to sync is gmail.
The display is using 91% of the battery. Even if I don't use my phone much during the day, the display still shows 90% or higher.

The display is always the biggest drain. That is based on 100% of what you have used. If your battery is warm while not on wifi you are losing 3G and your phone is constantly trying to connect to sync. Put it in airplane mode for an hour and see how the drain is. My guess is a tower is down near you or under maintenance.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
When wifi is on means 3g is off. And cdma 3g uses ALOT of battery because is has no type of "sleep mode" meaning it is on 24/7 and when you do use it it is a battery hog because it also uses a lot to power the cdma bands. Just another cheap flaw in the life of sprint.
So when you are not on wifi turn off 3g.
