Hi guys, just want to know if some of you are having some antenna issues just like the iphone 4. when i'm holding bottom part of the phone i'm losing my 3g reception. though the 3g reception at my place is really weak so i really can't confirm it.

Recently when I restarted my phone, the 3G symbol doesn't show. Switched to edge and it appeared then switched to 3G again but now can't even connect. Just shows the 4 bars with no edge/3g symbol.

Flashed anything recently? Maybe you're just in a dead zone. What rom and modem are you running?
I haven't rooted my phone yet. My reception is great but it has just acted like this lately.

In that case I'd say its either local interference or perhaps a malfunction with the nearest cell tower. Either way if you haven't rooted yet and it persists, I'd call T-Mobile.
I can now go to edge but still can't to 3g. Thanks. I'll call them.

Also, make sure you're in a 3G area.

Must be the area as aloneinshadow suggested, unless you have changed settings, such as: use only ........ network, intended for battery save. Sorry I can't be more specific but my current rom does not have that option. I just know that 2.1 has it, if you are on Eclair.

I dont I need to tell anyone how horribly weak the wifi chip in this phone is. My question is is there a way to boost it in any way? Provide it with more power or something like that?
More power would only fry it. Better reception (i guess that's what you are after) would need better antennas.
Even if more power would help, it would be quite difficult to achieve it. I don't think it could be done from software.
I noticed its quiet weak also wish there was a way to give it a bit of a boost.
are there alternate drivers?

Antenna signal can be increased by applying more mW to the antenna or changing the antenna shape to get more dBi. In our case the 2nd is out of the question unless you're in for a hardware mod. But if there is a specific file which is responsible for that mW parameter than you could potentially give it more juice (I think) and if so it should give you better signal reception and longer range.
Typical WiFi cards are 100mW or less. I think if you look up the FCC specs on our phone it should say what ours output is.
BTW, this will definitely drain your battery faster.
The FCC link to NS4G
The WiFi range on this phone is pathetic.

From the documents the best channel you should use is channel 6 if you can chose it on your router. It also looks like 802.11g is the standard which gave the largest bBi from it's antenna.
fyi

Strange, wifi on my phone is a little better than on laptop. Not speed just radius.

yeah the wifi sucks...
boosting signal strenght on my router did help a little though
Try out wifi tx power. It's on the market and it says it can adjust power suplly on the antenna
will getting a wifi n router help?
Just wait to see if the impending update fixes it. It'll be here this week.

I haven't read anything on it being one way or the other. Guess we'll know in the next 4 days. I hope it's for all Nexus S users for the sake of those who aren't on Sprint.

Unfortunately due to reception issues causing me to miss business calls. I am unable to keep my nexus s 4g n opted to replace it for the arrive. What am I in for?

Not really sure what your in for. I have my nexus on boost and have no problems and I use google voice for my main number...i wish you luck.
Good luck, I feared that your problem would of effected me since i barely get 1 bar in my house but luckily, I've had no call problems and actually have quite good call quality but not so much 3G speeds. Have you tried a different NS4G?

I have no signal issues or data speed problems. I regularly use Netflix over 3g with no buffering or other problems. In fact at work where my EVO had problems staying on 3g my Nexus stays connected and at a stable signal rate. I don't get a lot of calls but when I do they seem to come through fine.
Sorry to hear the you're having issues. Not sure that it's the phone though and not just network problems in your area.

Are you experiencing dropped calls or not being able to call? Do you have the latest firmware??
I've noticed my reception being noticeable worse then that of other phones but it works exactly the same.

The phone certainly doesn't have the reception of some of my other devices. That said, it is acceptable reception. It improves with firmware and system updates, just not super-dramatically. There are things you can do to increase reception, but that would require modding your phone to use its diversity ports for eternal antennas. Not something you may _really_ want to do with a a smartphone and/or gaming device. Especially one under contract that would have its warranty voided quite obviously by such.
